hi guys
i tried the "fastboot getvar cid" to check the CID on my one X, and it returned that the there is no CID code stored (cid: None)
is this normal ? when there is an update from HTC, how will they know which firmware to push to my mobile ?
Thanks
Did you unlock through htcdev? I believe this removes your CID

I have not unlocked it yet. It is still untouched with the original firmware that came with it
Known issue. I think you can read cid by adb shell getprop ro.cid

If you don't mind, what was the CID value?
Did you buy your phone from Dubai? Where & how much?
I got it from Gridzdirect for AED 2499/- but my CID is HTC__044, which is for hTC Asia WWE.
When previuosly got my Sensation, the CID was HTC_J15.

How much?
What is the impact of having a CID : None? From what i read, by unlocking the phone using HTCDev.com will remove the CID, then how else would anyone still have the CID?
my stock unlock one with cid:none too
from singtel
with adb shell I have O2__001.
What kind of rom can I install?
For example, can I install this one:
'RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.7_Radio _1.1204.104.14_release_259281_signed'
I rooted the phone and installed CWM.
The original software on the phone is: 1.26.206.2
Radio is 1.1204.90.13
Language dutch
Thanks in advance

It looks like you have an O2 branded device. If your device is locked to your operator, you will have to wait for an update from O2.

You can flash a European ruu any time. Even without unlocking, because european ruu's already have cid htc__15 in them.
But note that if u flash a newer (higher version) european ruu then u wont be able to go back. Also, u wont get ota updates automatically.

With the sensation and evo 3d, that was the case.
For the One X, you never know.
Actually, for the evo 3d, s-off was not required. I was able to change cid with htcdev unlock only.

If you unlock your bootloader via HTC Dev this removes the CID and allows you to flash any RUU. Essentially exactly the same as the Goldcard tool does.

Only speaking from experience. Mine was T-Mob branded, unlocked with HTCDev, CID showed as "None" then was able to flash the WWE RUU.

Interesting, don't suppose you know what software version you were on before do you ? 401 is the WWE, mine is 206.
I tried flashing the WWE on my o2 branded phone after I had relocked my boot loader but obviously didn't work....I'm just trying it now after re unlocking it

fastboot shows None as the CID for my One X which is still S-ON LOCKED and I know it has a CID because its a Orange UK branded handset. It just doesn't work for some reason. It isn't related to the security mode or whether it is locked, unlocked or relocked.

S-ON is different. I have unlocked my bootloader and I still have S-ON. Whenever you unlock the bootloader your CID is gone. I have read many owners of the One X that has the same result when they unlock the bootloader.

I know. My post was a reply to monkeyphonix who said they couldn't see the CID normally but could see it with CID getter. It is because getting the CID using fastboot doesn't work for some reason.

My device is a European unlocked version purchased from Expansys.

Regardless of the 'None' response from an htcdev.com unlock, you can get the CID of your device by using the following command:
fastboot oem readcid
This will show the OEM CID number - which is the one that controls which RUU can be flashed to your phone.
Hope this helps someone.

Ahh. So that is how you get the CID via fastboot.
I knew what my CID was anyway but here is what it should look like:
fastboot oem readcid
...
(bootloader) DEBUG: cid: ORANG001
OKAY [ 0.051s]
finished. total time: 0.052s
Obviously, once we get S-OFF the following command will grant SuperCID status.
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
I'm waiting on a couple of cables to arrive that will allow me to try out the Gold Card approach used on the HTC Mango devices - hopefully the One X will go into USB host mode?
I have unlocked my phone via htc dev, and i installed the 2.17 RUU and i have problems with my phone and i would like to change the cid to super cid (mine is ht_j15 at the moment), i would like to revert to 1.29 firmware via ruu but it gives me an error because my bootloader is an updated version, so is it possible to downgrade to the old bootloader version as well as get super cid, please help
cheers
The short answers for the three questions is no, no, and no.
but i have s-off :s, and will these no's ever change to yes ???
XD XD
Have you tried the fastboot command (In fastboot):
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
If thats succesfull then you should be able to flash any rom.
Note down your original CID for warranty by issueing the following command in bootloader:
fastboot getvar cid
Why would you use HTCdev if you're s-off?
It's useless

I get none when I issue fastboot getvar cid, is this equivalent as having the 11111111 set ?
Have you actually got s-off or have you just unlocked with htcdev? There 2 different things

You had mistaken some facts, HTC never providings any official s-off. The htcdev.com offers you to unlock bootloader, it had limitations and you're not getting s-off through it.
ya sry about that . btw I contacted htc dev and to my surprise they told me to check the internet forums for ways to s-off the device (i did mention to them that the device s-off ed now is the snapdragon varient) and they said they have no intentions of releasing the s-off :S.
Looking to convert my T-mobile HTC m8 to the unlocked version of the m8 sold on HTC's site. Just need to make sure I have the correct cid/mid before flashing the firmware.zip.
Currently I read it was HTC__001 and the mid was 0P6B12000
Is this correct? I don't want to brick my phone so I want to make sure.
The MID you listed I believe is the same for the AT&T, unlocked and developer edition. CID all you have to do is super CID to 11111111( that's right 1's). I don't know if you need the correct CID for OTA updates. Super cid should be enough though I believe.

I have rooted my M8 but it is still locked to vodafone (uk). What I want to do is get the phone to update with the latest android 4.4.3. (UK)
I have tried to get S-off using Firewater but did not work for me (like I see for a few others). In order to remove branding and have an unlocked (stock) HTC do I need to pay for S-off via sunshine or am I going about this incorrectly?
thanks for any help

Sorted :good:
I have a problem with my two HTC 10's. Both of them soff and unlocked with supercid done from fastboot. All OK until I went to flash one of them from telstra Rom to vodafone. I did that too but when I tried to update the phone to newer version via ota it said something like the phone Is modified and it can not do it. So I checked via fastboot and I have supercid but when I check from the app Simple CID Getter it says I have the Telstra cod and I figured that's why it doesn't allow me to flash the OTA. The phone is stock nothing modified after I flashed the Vodafone ruu. Any clue why that's happening and if I can get supercid with a different way?
Not sure if it applies here too, but when I converted from Sprint to US Unlocked I had to change the MID as well for it to finally work. Couldn't hurt to do it I don't think. And I want to say I remember that Simple CID app will say the original, but what matters is what it says in download mode.
