Update the firmware from the phone never works, atleast not for me. Use Kies. Doky's post has the same firmware you have, so you cant update via Odin for now.
OTA won't work when you using cusrom..
back to your 'origin' rom and then try it again

Thanks for the help actually after having problem in Update or ROM i thought theese sort of software, ROM, Stock falls under development ;-)
Thanks again for moving the thread
Hey friend
Have you tried clearing your cache before trying the update? You can do it by pressing volume up + home + power. As a last resort if you are really that keen to update via FOTA then perhaps make a full backup and also select wipe data (its in the same 3 button combo mode) Doing this will wipe EVERYTHING on the phone and bring it back to stock state, ie when you bought the phone. So make sure you have a backup if you try that route.

Good morning everyone.
As you can see from my post count, I am fresh meat on the XDA forums, and more in general to fiddling with Android.
I rooted my phone while ago, doing great so far (but no custom ROM yet, waiting for CM 7/9).
Today I opened up Kies and found thet there's a firmware upgrade avaiable.
It reads like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now, my situation is like this:
. I am rooted
. I have uninstalled several system apps (mainly Samsung Bloatware)
Being the total noob I am, am I safe to to the upgrade from Kies? (apart the known fact I learnt that Kies is Satan's stepchild)
Thanks in advance for any reply!
Update from Kies is a risk. Many ppl was posting that they have some errors. I prefer to update by Samsung Ota, just need wifi connection and thats all. I made the update with rooted phone and after update phone was still rooted.

I saw another thread similar to mine being opened, in which it says that this update is just the 2.3.6 one.
But I'm already on 2.3.6
My main concern about updating was about the fact that I'm rooted and uninstalled some default apps, and if that would interfere with the update
This update should bring your Version build to "GINGERBREAD.XXLA2"
It is now available in Italy both through Kies and OTA (I updated yesterday evening via OTA).
I think this upgrade can unroot your phone. But you can always root it again.
The "Root via Recovery" method should work on this release too.

Yeah I'm investigating about ClockworkMod (I hate mindlessly use things without prior knowledge of how they work)
By the way I have succesfully upgraded with Kies (OTA Update kept failing instead).
Now I'm waiting for an update of ZergRush root, cause this last firmware update screwed it.
Thanks anyone for the tips

Not sure if that will happen soon, but I would recommend you to read, as mentioned above, about the rooting via Recovery:
It is also possible via ClockWorkMod.
About the CWM, via ODIN it is very easy to flash and you have the possibility to reflash the stock recovery in a couple of seconds, too. This may be needed if you update next time via OTA.

Hey guys,
Love XDA, I just rooted and Flashed Cyangenmod 10.2 on my Virgin Mobile Galaxy S2 and am having a few issues and have no idea how to fix them.
1. Phone calls seem to work through the network just fine but data does not. this means no mobile internet etc do i need to download a virgin mobile software pack or something?
2. Camera is funky in a few ways, crashes on load most times. Colors are way off. Again is there a software solution?
Any helps is appreciated
Cheers

Virgin Mobile MMS fix-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2199489
Also make sure you have the FL24 modem installed (Settings/About Phone/Baseband to check which is installed)
As for the camera, which one are you using? Camera or Focal?

Hey Bilgerry,
Thanks for the response I installed the FL24 modem just fine here's the link should anyone need it in the future under ICS - Modems
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764210
I then installed the VM fix in the link so now I'm back on track with both MMS and (Voicemail which I hadn't even thought of yet).
However I'm still having trouble with the internet on my phone data plan I've tried 3 different browsers all fail to connect.
As for the camera, both Focal and Camera software are crashing heavily.
Try flashing this 3g fix for alternative carriers. I always use it for CM and it's universal. https://db.tt/zKeL0ffq

Dang it, no luck with that fix. I flashed it twice and got no response either time from my data source. If this is the only fix, whats the usual procedure with a flashed phone do you just have to wait until someone gets a fix out there?

Check the md5sum of your ROM zip compared to the one on the download page, if they don't match you have a bad download. I'm thinking this is probably your problem.
So I looked up md5sum but am not sure what it is or how to check it, can you elaborate? Is there a programme I need? You mentioned I may have a bad download so is that an issue with the link that was posted or is there a way to fix the md5sum so that I can download it from that link and get a working copy.
Bare with me I'm a noob.
Download md5sum Checker from the Play Store, it's how you tell if the file you downloaded is the same as the one the dev uploaded. If your md5sum doesn't match you'll need to redownload until it does. That it's why it's recommended you download onto a PC.
The first files I downloaded were all onto a PC first then onto the Galaxy S2. I've attached a screenshot of the md5 checker just to make sure I'm using it right. When I get home tonight I'll try download a batch of the files and see if I can get 1 to hit. I also tried downloading the file from another source and install but no luck.

You've got the first part right, now the dev or download site should provide an md5 to compare that to, the one in the pic below is an example, it's the download page to my ROM. Notice the md5 in the middle? That is what you're comparing your file to.

Sadly, it seems my IMEI has been set to zero.
I can still make calls and text, but my data is on Edge network only.
I've been doing some searching and reading (by some I mean a lot) and I guess I'm getting a little confused in it all.
Would using ODIN to reset my phone to stock fix the IMEI?
I have the IMEI on a sticker on the phone, could TMobile reset the IMEI for me?
Thanks in advance.
Swap it if you have insurance. If not search xda for fix.

Yes Odin will fix the Issue. Please choose correct firmware to flash via Odin.
Thanks for the response.
Trying to confirm I get the RIGHT rom for my device.
Went to sammobile.com/firmwares/
Looking at all the options for SGH-T999, do I have to made basebands to what I have now (T999UVDLJA) which is dated Oct 2012, or is that something that gets "updated" if I apply the latest rom (March 2014)?
Depends on what you had before all these problems. You must choose that same version otherwise you may hard brick the phone.
*sigh*
And I suppose there's no way to know that? I don't have a back up or anything...
Is there anyway to determine?
Thanks for your help and direction thus far!
Oh Sure. There are other ways to determine. If possible post a photo of the download screen. Otherwise type out exactly what you see when the phone is in download mode.

Yes that's what I needed. I suggest please use UVDMD5 Version of Root66 to flash via Odin.
Excellent.
So follow directions and get files from here?: http://www.androidayos.com/2013/05/...y-bean-without-binary-flash-counter-increase/
Well. Yes. I'd direct you to the Thread here under Android Development.
Yeap. The link I posted actually takes you back to the link you provided.
Both bookmarked.
I hope to do this tonight.
If I understand this correctly, this should flash my phone back to stock with my valid IMEI
Using this Route66 I will have root on the phone and should then be able to do a CM install if I choose?
Yes and yes.
If that is your desire, then while you are in Odin, flash a custom Recovery such as TWRP or CWM as well.

... I will have to research on how to do that too then.
First concern is getting the IMEI back so that I can actually USE the phone with data -- regardless if it's CM or stock OS.
As the UVDMD5 will have correct modem, hopefully that will restore IMEI. Otherwise we may have to see what happens.
hmmm sort of seems to have worked... stuck at the "SAMSUNG" screen though.
Reading other links says I should have cleared cache before doing?
Hmmm cleared cache.
Did factory reset.
Still stuck at pulsating "SAMSUNG" logo...
Ok got into phone... ugh is stock ROM just painful. Who designs these things?!?!
Sadly, IMEI is still set at 0
this doesn't seem to have worked

ARGGGHHHH Are you serious? Googling now, but this looks much more complicated compares to Odin
Can't TMobile just restore the IMEI if I take it to one of their stores?
New to the forums and everything having to do with rooting and what not, but I may have hard or soft bricked my galaxy s6 yesterday. I searched for hours to find someone with my particular problem and found nothing so I was hoping someone could help me on here. I had successfully rooted my phone and tried to flash a custom rom into the device and I guess it failed and now I can't get out of Odin or download mode. I tried to do the recovery thing where you hold the power, home, vol down then up thing without success. What it does is, it'll reboot, show the Galaxy s6 splash screen for a split second and go right back into download mode. It's android 5.1.1 and I tried downgrading and I get a fail each time. Even tried 5.1.1 firmware also with no success. If anyone can help me with this, I would be so thankful for it since I had to buy an iPhone 4s today lol.

I don't have much experience with device yet, as I have only rooted 5.0.2. With so little available and only TW, I have not made the leap. Hopefully, someone will be able to help you out.
If you have upgraded to 5.1.1, there is no going back. I would think you should be able to flash 5.1.1 stock again. How does this fail? Are you using Odin 3.10.6? Use your original USB cable and put the 5.1.1 tar in the same directory as odin.

You have to use Odin 3.10.6 with 5.1.1. It looks like you are using an older version of Odin. Also, make sure you are opening Odin as an administrator.

Probably this is a common issue, and you may want to kill me after opening a new thread for this. I'm so sorry, at the moment I'm very worried because my phone suddenly lost network services and I have no idea how to deal with these things, I'm really bad at flashing and such thing.
Problem is that after a year and half since I bought my Samsung Galaxy Note II GT-N7100, suddenly today this issue appeared.
The device has root access (not performed by me) with Kingo SuperUser/SuperSU. Once I realized it was rooted, I googled and proceeded to perform a factory reset (restarted device with power + volume up + home buttons, which leaded me to android system recovery 3e), which didn't help at all.
If I dial *#06# the IMEI it shows 004999010640000 / 01 but the one I see under the battery slot is (2014) IMEI: 359xxx/05/853xxx/4 (I don't know if this data is relevant, just trying to help).
I found this thread in this forum, which seems to be the same problem I'm facing right now, but I don't have any backup of those files, plus I don't know how to flash this specific phone :crying:
I'll really appreciate any kind of help you can provide me to fix my phone.
Here's a screenshot of the device info (it's in spanish but some names are easily understandable)

Have you tried flashing the latest stock ROM from sammobile.com?

Thanks for the advice!
I haven't tried anything but a hard reset. I don't know how to flash a phone, and I'm pretty sure I can screw it up if I try xD
I just heard about sammobile.com, but I don't know how to proceed even on that website.
Anyway, I hope there's something I can try before making that kind of "flashing"
If the imei doesn't get restored after flashing the latest stock ROM from Sammobile.com, you would need to try other methods to fix there imei problem.
Common issue... More than you imagine. Happens to me all the time. But I have one solution in my case Wich is just flash the EFS partition in my previous nandroid backup, but since to be you only were rooted and not custom recovery, I guess you don't have a nandroid backup. Only solution here is flash thru Odin and all will be good.

I get your point, but I don't want to flash the ROM if I'm not sure that shall fix the IMEI Plus, I don't know how to do it, and what to download from that website.

Hi imrock666, what do you mean by "flash trough Odin"? What's Odin and how can I do that? Forgive my huge ignorance
