[Q] sd card - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Now that I've been flashing roms like crazy I'm thinking I need a bigger sdcard. 32 or 64gb? And I'm assuming there's a procedure on how to do it, not just switching them out without having to do anything.

Depending how much stuff you keep on your sd card (music and etc) stick with a 16 gb or 32 gb. When ready to swap cards, go to settings/sd card/unmount or remove sd card. Pop off the back cover, remove battery, push down on sd card and it should spring up, then pull out gently.

Unable to read SD Card on HTC Evo 4G
Hi, I'm new to the forum and I need help fixing my phone. The problem started when I unlocked my phone using the HTCdev method. I have since rooted my Evo 4G and I'm still unable to access the SD Card through the phone. I'm able to access my SD Card when I plug it in to the computer via USB though. I fat 32 formatted the card and used the "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" command with no success. What do you think is wrong? It doesn't sound like the card is damaged.
Thanks in advance,
EternalS1

Is it fat32 formatted¿ how are you accessing root explorer, file manager

sounds good but what about all the data on it ; rom zips, pics, music, don't I have to save it somewhere so I can put it on the new card? Is that what the umount does?

Just copy everything from the old card to your computer, then copy everything back to the new card.

This really has nothing to do with this thread. It could be a bad card, try it out in a card reader to a computer and see if it still works. And you don't need to format the card, android will format it the first time you put it in the phone.

Thanks
Thanks guys, I fixed the problem.

SD card damaged

Hello all.
Was just listening to some music on my desire when Astro Player crashed. Couldn't get it to restart so restarted my phone instead. Now its telling me my SD card is damaged and I may need to reformat.
Anything I can do or am I buggered?
It wasn't the original 4gb card, I was using an older 8gb card. I've been using it awhile though without any problems so I doubt that was it?
Do you need the data on it? If not then just reformat it... there´s nothing horrible about this ;-)
I do have some stuff on there I needed. And Isn't a lot of app data stored on the SD card? Just a bit of hassle really isn't it?
Try hooking up the SD card with a card reader directly in your PC, it might be able to open/read the files without a problem. If that's the case, copy everything (just select all>copy) off the card, format it and move the stuff back.
8GB damage & repair
I also have troubles with 8GB card.
Unsure whats wrong but time to time i still get SD Card is corrupted message.
Only U can do is new format or try to read by card reader on your PC.

Damaged SD Card

I managed to get CyanogenMod 7 RC2 up and running. I noticed that I had a lot of junk on my SD card so I thought that I could back it up and then wipe it because most/all of the useful stuff was on the internal memory of the DHD. But, for some reason, my phone is telling me that my SD card is damaged.
I don't think that there is anything wrong with the SD card because I just did a copy/paste thing to back it up. Also, I've put in another SD card and it also says that it's damaged. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Run fix_permissions and reboot

Thanks for the reply, but I don't think I can do that. I can't put that on my SD card because there if I try to connect it with the computer, I can't mount the SD card or turn on the usb sharing thing. I'll be able to reformat the SD card soon because I'm borrowing a friend's micro sd card to sd card converter.
I tried Fix Permissions by going into recovery and advanced options, but that didn't work =/
Also, I remember now that I uninstalled "Goldcard Helper" because it said it was downloaded to my SD card so I thought that I could uninstall it and be able to clean up my SD card completely. Maybe that had some effect on this?
Got my friend's converter so now I can plug the micro SD directly into my computer. Oddly enough, it said I had to format it before I could use it which is essentially what my phone was telling me to do too.
I'll wipe it then see if it works
Perfect! I think it is working completely now! One last question of what I should do now that it's working. Can I plug it in, restore a few pictures I had, and just let Android take over from there? It's completely blank on the SD card so will Android know what to do with it?

[Q] SD Card Damaged. USB Doesn't Work. Won't Mount! HELP!

Okay so last night, I was just multitasking on my phone and all of a sudden, I get that dreaded microSD icon on my notifications bar. It says, "SD card damaged. You may have to reformat it." I have gotten this in the past and usually a soft reset fixes it (with the oem sd card). I did that, and it was still there.
I tried to connect it to my computer to transfer everything saved, but the sd card won't even mount, so my computer doesn't even see anything on the card! I even tried putting the card in the external USB card reader that came with the card and I can't access it.
I tried using Root Explorer, Settings, and Astro to access the microSd card and it won't let me since it is not mounted.
I am using CM7 RC4 with Lexar 32gb Class 10 card.
Any ideas? I really don't want to lose all my stuff on my SD card, but if I guess if there isn't any fixes, I don't really have a choice.
Try unmount the card place in a like SD adpater and plug in the computer See if it reads it.

Well it seems the card is already unmounted permanently at the moment. When I try to put it in the card reader, my PC won't even read the stuff on it. I mean it will show that a external device is connected but when I click on it, it just does nothing.
This happened to me and it scared the hell out of me. All I did was reboot and it was fixed.

Yeah, I think my card was f'd ..ended up just reformatting it ..lost everything. But it works now lol.

[Q] Phone damaging micro sd cards???

im currently running cm7.
i have an htc EVo.
i was backing up my data on this 4GB to move it on a 8gb micro sd card. i deleted everything on it and ejected it. i put the 8gb in and suddenly it did not work any more. neither did the 4gb mico sd card. my phone says that the micro sd cards are damaged. i have several other cards that wont read. idk why... i tried plugging the micro sd cards up to the computer and the computer wont recognize them. it tells me i have to format but the format always fails. i there a fix for this? im starting to think that cm7 is damaging my sd cards. i have important things on their to me and i would love to recover them.
THANKS IN ADVANCE
*UPDATE*
the 4gb i currently have will work in my old phone. it is a samsung highnote. but when i put it back in my htc evo it still says that it is damaged. i rebooted in clock work mod and it read this time. i was able to mount the 4gb sd card in usb storage from CWM(Clock Work MOd).
Try formating it on your pc

Hey,
Yeah sometimes that happened, now do other micro sd cards work in it?
What I would do is put the card in your computer I prefer linux but you can do what you want, or even your phone if it will mount it in recovery then just do a full sd card wipe and that should get everything working for you! If you still can't get it to work PM me and we will figure it out!
If I helped hit the thanks please and thank you!
The SD Formatter program from the SD association can nearly always format a card when nothing else can. Now, the data on there may not be recoverable though. I learned that the hard way too a while back.

It couldnt reformat my partitioned sd card though! but besides that that program works great!
I have had similar issues. My SD card was working amazingly well until I rebooted my phone to show someone my splash screen I had installed a few days prior. When it booted up it said the SD card was damaged. I'm not sure why....but sure enough it was toast. I couldn't even mount the card in order to see the files on my computer. Thankfully my motherboard was able to see that the card was there, just inaccessible, so I was able to run File Scavenger and get all of my files off. After that I reformatted my SD Card and went about my business.

[Q] Can my goldcard be used on other devices?

I've managed to use AAHK to turn my sd card into a gold card.
At this point, I'm thinking of changing my phone to s3 mini. Can I use this card like a normal SD card on the s3 mini? Or do I need to get a new sd card?
If I need to get a new card, is there a way to "ungold" the card? I assume "ungolding" the card is probably to format it. If that's the case, I can just copy the contents out, format and copy the contents back right?
Thanks!
Throw it away, give it away, format it, use it in a new phone, etc. Nothing about "gold card" is affected.

You can use it normally, Samsung devices do not need goldcards. The boot partition of the sdcard is not used in a usual basis, just for situations like flashing PD98IMG files, so you can leave it as it is and will no have an issue. Formatting it won't help..
