[q] sd card backup and restore without copy/paste - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 General

is there a quick way to backup and restore everything on my SD card like music, pictures etc instead of copying and pasting to my computer. (any specialist software?)

Backup to the cloud. Only viable though if you have good internet speeds. Unless of course you'd be patient enough.

Ya that's the only way .... Backup to cloud ... Box is an app in market ... Which gives 50 GB backup to user ...
You can backup your full sd card there .... if you have great internet speed though... 8GB uploading if you have 8g card

All sorted, Thanks for all your help, Operation was successful, No more Hospital hopefully for my device, even if there is then I have all my backups secure!!

Soft reset wipe out your sd card data?

I was turning off my wifi (I use it at home, at work I can't get on the wireless, I don't even know why they have it if they don't let anyone on it) and it hung. So instead of going to settings > applications and force closing (I uninstalled ATK), I just did a soft reset.
Well, I get a message upon restarting that says the SD card is damaged and needs to be reformatted. Luckily any good pics I took I uploaded, and my apps don't look like they've been affected...
Has this happened to anyone? Anyone at all? I've read other threads that show the card works on a computer but not in the phone, some data being deleted due to
I thought the OTA firmware update fixed the sd card issue.
FYI I'm using a 16 GB (class 2 unfortunately) microSD from San Disk. Tried doing a full root but said screw it after having some issues. Reverted to stock with OTA update and applied the partial root method via unrEVOked.
Micro SD card wiped after phone restart
I installed Android Revolution HD™ 3.6.7 XE | 4.1.7 Sense 3.5 on my HTC sensation 4g yesterday.
I was sorting through my contacts and did a backup to my micro SD card then deleted all from phone, google and sim. Then I reinstalled the Vcard copy of my contacts from my micro SD, (16gb Lexar), card all good up until this point.
After that I restarted my phone and all my data on my SD card was gone!
I had a backup of Titanium Backup on Dropbox but none of my photos were there.
Is my backup of my original rom going to be on Titanium Backup, or was the only copy going to be on my SD card?
Thanks
Flash memory cards do fail occasionally.

ROM backups stay on SD always back your SD up to the pc. I do mine every few days just overwrite the old card backup with the new one so u just get the new stuff you've saved, and don't end up with a bunch of backup folders that are mostly the same thing. And yes flash memory, especially cheaper flash cards or lower class that have been tweaked to speed them up can fail.

Thanks for you're reply EViL-KoNCEPTz- .
I thought I was getting a good quality card when I bought Lexar, class 6 if I recall.
Can you please answer one more question for me. I did a titanium backup, which was backed up to Dropbox. Will that have saved my original ROM?
It didn't save my pictures.

One time my roommate gave me his stock 16gb Samsung SD card from the epic because asurion sent him a brand new phone. Loaded synergy on it. It booted up twice before failing. Could not get it to recongize in any device, whether it was a camera, phone, or computer.

Titanium Backup's Dropbox sync only syncs what you backup with Titanium Backup. Titanium Media Sync will backup other stuff though. Backing up multiple nandroid backups will eat up your space pretty quickly. So to answer your question, no. Titanium Backup didn't backup your original rom, only your apps and their data.
Now you know to be sure to back up any important files to your computer. Good news is that you can just run an RUU or flash the stock rom to get back to stock.

Thanks plainjane for you reply.
This is my first attempt so total noob.
I did write some stuff down while I was following this guide "[Guide] to Installing S-off, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on [03/AUG/11](noobproof)".
Device HTC SEnsation 4G
CPyramid-1.18.000,Android 2.3.4/ROM version 1.45.531.1

Pyramid put Ship S-OFF rl
HBOOT-1.17.1111
RADIO-10.14.9035.01_M
eMMC-boot

So, if I need to return to stock I just download this file?
RUU_Pyramid_TMOUS_1.45.531.1_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_208218_signed
(this is an RUU, where to I find ROMS? Do they to the same thing?)
One last question?
Do you just put your microSD card in your comp and copy all the file or do you use some backup software?
Thanks to all who have posted!

I had the same thing happen to me the first month I had my evo. All I did was buy a card reader and connect to pc. Right click the drive and select properties. I believe under tools u can check drive for errors. It found the errors, fixed them, and I never had a problem again. The card is still in my og and works fine.

I formatted my card a couple of time and and all is good now.
There hasn't been a problem with the card again.

[Q] SD Card clean up

Ok, so i was looking at my storage usage today, and im a little curious. i am currently using 8.7gb of my SD Card. Only 13 apps are on my SD Card, I have 5 movies, only about 30 songs, about 100 photos, i do have 3 nandroid back up files, (i deleted 2 old ones) what the hell is sucking up all my storage?... lol If i go to my sd card via es file explorer or on my PC, i have a ton of folders but a lot of them are empty. Any ideas? Im tempted to wipe the card and put back only the things i want, but im not sure what on there is there as a dependency for something else.... lol
Like to know as well

Disk Usage will help you identify what's using up all your space
SD Maid will identify unused folders etc
Nandroid backups use up alot of space ; games have downloadable data which take up anywhere from 50mb-1.x GB...
Sandisk have a sd card management app ; try searching the market for it or try out one of the ones alread ysuggested ; Haven't tried them personally.
Thanks guys I'm gonna look into it, I forgot about game data I have 6 games, I'm willing to bet that's where its all at.
Edit - That SD Maid is a bad a** little program!!

I had root uninstaller and it had an option to auto backup everything I uninstalled. I accidentally stumbled over the backups and noticed they were 2.5 gb of apks...
If you use or used root uninstaller check sd/ root uninstaller/ autobackup.
Also check the sd card for game data leftovers.

Upgrading My SD Card? O.o

I'm upgrading my SD card to a 16Gs one from my old 8Gs. Is there anyway I can get all the apps back and working if I move EVERYTHING exactly as it is to the new card? Or is Titanium Backup the only way? And IF Titanium Backup is the only way, I guess there's no use of moving the app folders as Titanium Backup does backup all the app settings and data? Right?
And also, do I need to partition my SD? Because all my apps seem to run fine on SD. Does partitioning make it faster?
Thanks! \m/
Just move it all. It'll be like you never changed SD cards.
You don't need to use Titanium Backup but to answer your question, yes it saves data too.
Partition your SD if you're gonna use Link2SD or A2SD. Apps in your partition can still be used even if you have connected your phone to pc via usb. I put all widgets on my partition so I can still use them even when it's not on my internal memory. No difference in speed of running apps but apps load faster at boot because you don't have to wait for media scanning to start/finish. And more internal memory too.
So 512MB of partition becomes the internal memory? And I do use Link2SD but it moves the apps to the external memory without the partition on my 8GB card. And the apps run just fine. So why do i need the partition for?
Confused.
Copy everythng frm your current card to pc... Isert new card... Remove it n copy back everythng in new card.... Datx it
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda premium
Because when you move apps to SD not all files are moved, some of them are still taking space in your internal memory. When an app is linked all of it is moved.
And widgets don't work when you move them to SD so they're stuck in your internal memory taking up space. When it's in your partition it isn't, and widgets still work.
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda premium
I use link2SD. So i guess everything is moved to the external. The widgets dont work though. So I guess partitioning is only to move widgets to SD so and apps stored in the partition load up on boot without requiring the media scan. Correct? Are there any other uses?
Even if you moved apps to SD with link2sd unless it's linked all it moves is the apk file. If it's linked dex, lib and apk files are moved.

Nope. Anyway, I've installed Hybrid 2.1 now. Keys are back to normal. Thanks for all your help. And by the way, I've to go the Titanium way because I had to factory reset my phone. And I have the Nandroid backup too. So if I reinstall from my Nandroid backup, will the key problem come back again? Because that was taken when I had the problem.

The easiest n safest way for me..
1. Backup your old apps using titanium backups
2. Copy titanium backups folder from your old SD card to the new one..
3. Insert your new SD card to your phone, restore it using titanium back up.
4. done.
thnx

Another good method is to create a backup folder on your PC and copy your old sdcard there. Then copy it back to the new card. This has the advantage of giving you a backup in case of failure of the sdcard or the Titanium Backup not restoring properly.
Of course, if you're really OCD like I am, you could do both!

No, it will save the data on it (if present). You will have to reinstall your apps, or restore them using Titanium Backup, as mentioned before. You will need root access for the last one.
someone have "titanuimback" zip for cwm ?
I don't know if there's titanium backup .zip..
why u can't install titanium backup...?
Is your device already rooted..?
yes, but i cant install it, its says that i dont have enough memory.
but i have 90Mb free.
OMG
I just move the apps on SDcard to phone (by link2SD)
and then i tried to install titanuim backup and it worked.
i guess that its installing on SDcard.
bb, thnx for the helpers
I would use my external memory card reader that I use for my Mac and plug it into my eePC and the built in sd card reader. Then all I do is copy the files straight over to my new card no problem. If I didn't have that option then I might make a disk image of my current sd card and have my new card be restored from that image. That way I could be sure that the new card is EXACTLY the same as my old one. I've burned disk images like this so I can install Linux onto a computer and I don't see why it won't work for an sd card.

Hmmm.... Get a bigger sd card?
Check the size of everything you have in your sd card vs. The size of your sd card.... Then decide what you want to do.

Could you then explain the issue. It's clear I sidn't understand your issue.
Is it formated in ext3, ext4? What are you using to delete the files? It's odd that after deleting the file you don't get the space back.
What rom are you using?

App Space?
hey had an issue last night where I restored apps from backup and ran out of space on the phone (previously I had apps on the SDCARD but restoring them installed them onto the phone).
Can anyone point me to a wiki that explains where this data is stored so I can manually delete old apps data thats not longer install?

If you go into tibu there is an option store back ups to orignal location needs to be selected so when you restore if its on the sd it will restore to sd. Just go into tibu hit menu then preference. About half way down you will find the option.

There is an app called sd maid which I use to clean up sd with corpsefinder option. Just be careful with the app it can delete things you need. Id stick with the corpsefinder option and the systemcleaner option nothing else. If you google how to really use the app you can probably figure how to use more of its options.
