Hi,
I have installed Swype Beta on my One X and it runs well to start but then if you restart or sometimes it just changes to half the screen width.
Anyone else had this problem?
Does anyone have a modified APK like the Galaxy Note that sets the correct screen size?
yes, i've got the same issue , and if i'm going back to stock keyboard and then to swype again it's normal.
I got the same issue...
Also downloading the Danish layout took forever!!
If you put the phone in portrait orientation, it fixes.
Mine does the same too. Just switch between HTC Keyboard and back to Swype and it usually fixes it.
Yup, I've the same issue too. Quite annoying to keep changing every time it happens.
Same here - A restart or switching keyboards fixes it.
I've found that HTC's inbuilt Swype equivalent Trace, works just as good as Swype. Plus it means one less process in RAM.
To test it out, activate it: Go to Settings - Language & Keyboard -HTC Sense input - Then turn on trace.

Yep, I'm trying it out after using Swype for over a year. I'm getting on pretty well with it. I miss some Swype features (like double-tap word for suggested alternatives), but I find HTC Trace surprising accurate, perhaps more so than Swype. Plus with the HTC keyboard, the cursor keys are right there on screen (except when the 3-dot menu hides them). Definitely pleasantly surprised with this, I'll keep it for a while before deciding whether to switch back to Swype.
I had the same problem with the latest Swype. I found that an earlier Swype version works great though.
I don't think we're allowed to post links to Swype APKs, but if you Google for DarkSwype v5 you'll find it. Plenty of other colour themes available too - I'm using the ICS-Stock-Swype version. Looks good and works without any resizing problems, so long as you stick to v5.

Cheers to you mate, this indeed in an alternative to Swype. Not as fast, but alternative.
I was using Swype with my DHD for almost a year and with One X that wasn't working anymore due to a tiny keyboard at the bottom left of the screen. Too small to use and very irritating. Suddenly, one realizes u simply can't type anymore letter by letter. It has become ancient, really.
Thanks again.
I get the tiny keyboard bug too but if you rotate the phone into portrait mode and back into landscape, the problem will be fixed.
I too decided to try swype on my one x. Aside from the size bug its OK. Personally i think it would benefit from being a bit taller but thats must my opinon.
I like HTCs Trace keyboard however i wish it would do what Swift key does and put a space after a full stop automatically.
I dont like having to manually press space sometimes to get it to put a space in...
Swype like input with swift key's features would be AMAZING!

Thanks a bunch for pointing this out. I was really missing Swype from my prior Samsung phones.
Solution for all suported languages!
I have found the way to run swype beta with languages that I need for our resolution.
1. Download official swype installer from beta.swype.com
2. When installed, run it and download a new beta version of swype
3. Go to Settings/Language and keyboards and in swype settings download languages that you need (in my case Serbian and Romanian)
4. When languages are downloaded and installed, download from web this modded version swype-3.2.6-gn-land-320.apk
5.Install it and when system asks to replace application, answer with yes
6. Go to Settings/Language and keyboards and set swype as default input method
First time when you try to use it it might say that loading of some LanguageLA file failed, but it works and it doesn't appear anymore

Worked like charm. Thanks for adding the apk.
Sent from my HTC One X on Leedroid's ROM v5.0.0.
Thanks for the APK however when i tried to install it I had to uninstall the previous version of swype I'd got due to a signature mismatch and now with this new one installed I can't download any language packs so I'm going to have to revert to unmodified one sadly.

You know you don't have to press the full stop button you can just press the space bar twice. Just like that.

Apparently I am too much of a fast typer that the virtual keyboard can't keep up with me. I want opinions, what is the best keyboard available for the Droid Incredible?
I have tried
-Android Keyboard [Obviously no Good]
-Better Keyboard [No Good]
-Keyboard from Android 2.3 [Dont understand difference from original]
-Smart keyboard [Ehh]
-Swiftkey [So far I purchased since is the best one I have had, but not good enough]
Opinions?
If you're looking for speed, learn to use Swype. Takes a bit to get accustomed to, and allow it time to learn your habits. It has settings to adjust to your preferred input speed.
Swiftkey just released Swiftkey X which has a rapid typist option/profile.
I keep coming back to SwiftKey. I loved Swiftkey X Beta, so I use the Swiftkey X now. I've used Swype (can't get it working on MIUI tho), Thumb Keyboard (I use this on my Xoom and love it!), and just never liked the stock Android keyboard.
There's something about hitting one or two letters of a word, then just typing the sentence by hitting the next word until you're done. It may be learning my patterns, in hopes that some day it will rise up and conquer me. Time will tell.
I second Swiftkey X, there is a full version / update if you bought the original swiftkey out now. Its fast, intuitive and very well organized.
Otherwise Id try thumb keyboard or swype. Thumb keyboard is very good on tablets.

Agree try swype...
Been using swiftkey X, honestly the best one out IMO. Unless you like swype (I never did) than that's the one to go.
I've tried
-Android Keyboard
-Better Keyboard
-Keyboard from Android 2.3
-Smart keyboard
-Swiftkey
-swype
The ones I stick with are:
-FlexT9IME_TMO<--is what I use as dd
or as a backup
-slide-it
jcoddinc83
+1 for swiftkey X (beta)
Thanks for the fast reply guys... And yeah i like Swift but the thing is i shorthand a lot when typing so i really dont like the predictions. But i guess Swift it is

Every time you enter in a word you help to create more predictions. Whatever shorthand or abbreviation you use it'll learn quickly
Another vote for Swift X. Best keyboard out there in my opinion.

It took me a while to get MIUI configured to use Swype but it was well worth it. Using Mytextspeed from the market, I tested different keyboards, and swype was by far the fastest, with Swiftkey in 2nd place. If you want swype on miui, just follow these instructions:
1. Download and install root explorer. You'll have to pay but it's a useful app and worth it. (OR you could download a free alternative, ES File Explorer)
1. Download swype installer and install swype (full language version only!!!!)
2. After installation, there will be a screen with 4 options:
a. watch video
b. start tutorial
c. generate license
d. finisho
4. Press the home button to exit swype installer and open root installer
5. Go to /data/app in Root Explorer (In ES File Explorer, you first have to enable read-write permissions in the menu, then navigate to data/app)
6. Click on "com.swype.android.inputmethod-1.apk" and long hold to bring up the options menu
7. Click move, scroll to /sdcard/download and click "paste"
8. Press the home button to exit root explorer
9. Open swype installer. You should get a force close error. If you do not and instead see the screen with "disable swype", click the back button which will bring you back to the home screen then click swype installer again. Do not continue until swype installer force closes. Alternatively, if you have the "force close with longpress of back button" option installed in the MIUI system settings, you could just hold down the back key until it force closes.
10a. Go back to root explorer (or ES File Explorer) and move "com.swype.android.inputmethod-1.apk" back to /data/app
10b. If you have Root Explorer, ignore this step: Press menu and set it to read only
11. Go back to the home screen and open swype installer
12. Click "select swype" and then select swype
13. Click "finish"
14. Enjoy!
In my opinion, swype is the best, fastest keyboard out there. You only need one finger or thumb to use it, which means you can type just as fast with one hand, and it's very intuitive. Although it does take a little getting used to, once you get the hang of it, you'll never go back to tapping.
I did play around with Swiftkey X a little, and after repeadedly typing in "the quick brown fox jumps over a lazy dog", it was soon able to predict "quick" right after typing "the".
I'd say SwiftKey X if you're using a ROM that doesn't have the HTC_IME one. I like the HTC keyboard a lot, and after getting spoiled by it, I hate the Gingerbread kb. I popped the $1.99 for SwiftKey X when it was on sale last week so I could have a far more capable kb than the stock Gingerbread one on roms like CM7.
swiftkey and swype are my two favorites. then 2.3 keyboard
If only the 2.3 keyboard could swipe as a secondary option, then it'd be best in a second
i always come back to swype.

It's not on market because it hasn't been released to the public. To get Swype - it's still in beta but works perfectly. You need to sign up to download it - start here: http://beta.swype.com/android/create/
Swype however isnt a normal keyboard loll, you have to slide your finger/thumb across the letters to create a word and release your finger from the screen to make a space. It's amazingly cool.
If you're looking for a normal fast keyboard Swiftkey X is excellent, and you can find that on the market.
Very similar: SlideIt, pretty cheap and easy to switch between languages, can be tried out! Very fast for me.
Shall have a look
hi thanks i downloaded android keyboard from market its cool fast and smoth also free
Hello everyone! I just got my One X on Monday and so far I'm pretty happy with it, despite some small hiccups due to the first version of the SW.
Today I have installed an alternative camera app from the Market (Lg Camera Pro) and I turned off in the options the sound of the shutter. Guess what? The HTC stock keyboard stopped playing its sounds eversince, and no matter what I do there is no way to have them back. I have also uninstalled the Lg Camera app, but to no avail.
My idea is that the app has somehow overwritten some system file and as a result the keyboard is now mute. But is it possible, considering the handset is not even rooted yet?
Any ideas are very welcome.. if I don't find any other solution I will have to go for a full reset.
I have a heap of iPhone mates that I wish could find this LG app you mention. They all sit there in the room, going tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick on their phones while txting...sounds like a bloody stenographer's convention!
Sorry, I have no answer to your problem, but I am glad people around you are enjoying the silence

How about your screen lock / unlock? Is the sound still on? If doesn't then try to install some sound manager apps (ex: Audio manager) and check the volume level for system.
Awesome tip OP! A way to remove annoying keyboard sounds, will apply it if I get this phone and trial it on other devices.

You can always disable the keyboard sound via the keyboard setting menu. Most of the HTC device come with keyboard sound turned off.
I normally use the keyboard on mute, but that has nothing to do with the fact that I should be able to turn the sound on if I wish to do so!
Anyway I had to do a factory reset from recovery to have it back. Thanks to all.

It's an entirely different way of typing. Swype is faster because you don't have to remove your finger from the keyboard (at least not that often).
Swiftkey is faster because it predicts words insanely well, if you write "I'll be there in 5 min" for example it will suggest "be there in 5 min" after you write I'll.
It's a very intresting piece of software which learns what you type the most and how you type it.
Also the new beta even adds spaces between words if you have forgotten it (check video in the thread in VIP section of swiftkey for example).
I tried Swype, Swiftkey, SlideIT, stock keyboard, Sense 4.0 keyboard and I still love Swiftkey the most. At the start it isn't that great but when you use it a few days it becomes 10x better (because of the "learning" of the software).

Perhaps true in the sense that it is still a keyboard but the size, colour and styling are both different - not radically, but somewhat.
As a matter of interest, you did enable Swype Beta, didn't you? For whatever reason the beta and the original both show as installed. You won't see the new look unless you enable the beta.
Can someone report the actual version number of this please, as I'm not sure if this is the version I already have installed
I have: 3.26.92.38965.38973.10637.I9100
Just installed it, it feels... bigger, the new Swype. I'd rather it be slightly smaller.
Also I noticed some new effects when you let go (it like shrinks and fades out) after swyping and it also seems to run a bit faster.
My version is 1.0.3.5809
Interestingly though the package name is nuance and not swype.
From the manifest.xml:
HTML:
<manifest android:versionCode="5809" android:versionName="1.0.3.5809" package="com.nuance.swype.input"
This must be their first release since acquiring swype.

On non beta, if you hold the backspace button then word by word would get deleted, but now it's letter by letter. Damn!

How can you enable handwriting? I choose it from options but I couldn't find to run it.
All in all this is an awful release in my opinion.
Ability to delete words in the original dictionary is a HUGE improvement, and I also love the option to have popups.
But then I noticed that words you just typed get erased immediately if you press backspace, but I just though well, I guess I can get used to that even though it's kind of a stupid change to make.
Then I noticed that backspace now erased letter by letter instead of words by word.
THEN I noticed that words get auto-added, meaning that every time you type out a captcha or feel like randomly saying something like "wazzaaaaaaa" to a friend, you'll involuntarily be getting those words added to your dictionary!
AND THEN I noticed that you can't add the "" and the "" smileys to your dictionary. A feature which I usually use at least once per sms!
I don't see why they feel like they have to decide for us whether we want to erase word by word or letter by letter, or whether we want words to auto-add or not!?
Also, I've been swyping this entire post, and making a capital i is near impossible, and a capital A IS impossible. Also the marker seems to have a life of it's own most of the time. Horrible release.
Back to the last Swype beta for me, good that I had a backup...
I just hope they bring a new beta with the old features soon before this one expires.

Wish I had a backup. It's more accurate by far but messaging is annoying, the letter marker seems to jump and it creates duplicate when everything a new line on everything. Also, i hate the send key being replaced by smilies.

Hi all,
I recently moved from Stock-rom (in which I had a full version of swype - 3.26 I think). Is there a way that I can extract my Swype from the Stock-rom and move it to the custom rom? (I have Nandroid for the stock).
I've tried to backup with TB in the stock, and restore in the custom but it didn't work. I also tried to copy the data\app files & data\dalvik-cache & data\data\com.android.swype.inputmethod & of course - the apk.
It all didn't work.
Any advices?
Thanks.

I've tried to do that.
At system\lib, originally, I had nothing that relates to Skype.
However, at Data\Data\com.swype.android.inputmethod\, I had several folders. One of them was ..\Lib, and the lib file was there.
No other place it was originally placed.
Any advices?
and another question, if I may...
where are the language packs files stored?
I love the new app but DAMN ITS A MEMORY HOG!
Old Swype on my device used 12.24MB
New Swype plus mandatory SwypeConnect app uses 38.2MB :silly:
I'm not asking for any apks first of all.
anyone know what the last or best version was before the auto ads dictionary? I love Swype but their current betas automatically add words and I hate it.
I like the predictive text but I liked it when you had to tap "add to dictionary"
Any help appreciated because the one I brought over from my old phone auto capitalizes and on bootup throws a fc message. It works but sometimes glitches out. not picky about color themes etc.

not sure what you're talking about...
latest version is quite nice and almost everything it's adjustable via settings, including the personal dictionary
www.swype.com
register to have backup and sync to swype server
I have an account but I tried the latest update about a month ago and whenever you type a weird word and click it, it adds it to my dictionary whereas before after clicking it would then ask "add to dictionary" and you could ignore it. Can you turn that particular feature off? Without turning anything else off?
I can adjust my personal dictionary now I just don't want auto add of words just because I use it one time...
just don't tap it lol
if I type a word that isn't in the dictionary,
AND then I continue by typing a space or other punctuation, it will ask ..
but if the word you have just typed is the selected word.. at left, in gold, you don't have to tap it to use it ...
in fact, since it is already the current word, tapping it is like telling swype to add it
nope.. I can't get it to add automatically, lol
maybe you have old version
My version is beta 1.3 ... shows as 1.3.5.10176 in application manager
I have auto correct OFF!
Yea but I want auto correct on except when I tap it to say yes use this word then ask me whether I want it or not.
My current version and previous versions I use work like this. Just want the latest of this generation...running 3.26.92
My version is the latest official beta ...
yours seems to be a version built for a manufacturer.. pre-installed on the phone?
if so, it's not a great idea to use it on different phone
I understand what you're saying about how it is and what you like, but the official beta is quite advanced
does yours sync and backup dictionary to server?
allow handwriting?
have "living language"?
have Swype connect?
receive notification and updates from Swype?
well anyway.. you can always go to their website
and post your question in their forums
