Ok..A lot of you are going to hate me for this..but I have some serious doubts, so I have made this thread...
A lot of people here have been advising me to go for the HTC Desire HD...
But the problem is, I am in love with the WP7....
I use my phone (Currently Xperia X1) for mostly music, browsing the web and E mail (This is a v important point).
I have nothing to do with apps and all..(I consider it for the children in college) and like I have mentioned, only use it for music (once in a while, may be movies), E mail and surfing.
So any ideas which one should I go for???
I am eternally confused...

I highly recommend going for the HD2. Every bit as good as the DesireHD, but you can flash a bunch of other ROMs if you like. The DesireHD ROM for the HD2 is sweet...the one from Gauner1986. Just give it plenty of time to setup and a few reboots and it is slick as WP7, for the most part. Currently I'm using the Nexus S ROM (pure Gingerbread) from Tytung and it is amazing. You won't be able to do that with the DesireHD. The HD2...the US version...is highly recommended.
If you have no need for apps, then you need to ask whether you'd be okay with being tied to Zune on your desktop for syncing and whether you need flash.
If you need flash on your browser, don't like Zune (although it is quite good actually!) and primarily use gmail with google products then go for the Desire HD
If you don't mind zune and don't use google products extensively, then go for the HD7! the music experience will be better. But movies will depend on which codecs the files are using...zune is quite picky over which avi's it will detect.
Well for music you have the zune player on wp7 which in my opinion is better than the android player but android is able to support more media codecs for videos/music. If you just use standard avi and mp4 for videos and mp3 or aac WP7 is the better choice.
When it comes to the browser you have to decide what you'd rather have, html5 and flash on android or a smooth browsing experience (better scrolling and implementation of pinch to zoom).
I don't really know what you expect from a good email client but for me the one on WP7 works pretty good. I'm a pretty casual user so my use of the email client isn't that deep going. If you have common email accounts (hotmail, yahoo, gmail,..) setup is very easy and push works well. Private domains can be problematic and one thing that annoys me is that media content in the mails aren't loaded automatically but you have to click on them to make them visible.
I don't have a lot of experience with how android handles emails since I never used a android device longer than a few hours.
I hope that helps somewhat (and since I'm a bit of a WP7 fan ofcourse my vote would go to the HD7). But if you have the possibility why not just try them both out?
HD7 all the way... the more I use windows phone 7 the laggier and more beat up android feels regardless of device.... play with it awhile and you'll never want to turn back...
I'd also recommend HD7. The Desire HD is also a good phone, but if music, videos, internet and multimedia is what you're after, I don't think you can go past WP7.
Besides, you said it yourself - you're in love with the OS. Treat yourself
HD2
second MartyLK. Just flashed WP7 onto my HD2 and you can get live services enabled, jst google it. Then you end up with full WP7. I've tried android and was impressed but not keen, however it really is flawless on the HD2. I saw someone suggestion it willl be able to dual boot Android and WP7, so what more could you want? For me its only the unibody and kickstands I'm jealous of now. I imagine its cheaper too? And just in case, it'll always do WM6.5? Which i still love...
hd2
it's HD2
I hate to be a prude but don't listen to the people that only experience a phone based on hacked firmware. Running wp7 on the hd2 is a fantastic feat, but it honestly does not outperform the dell venue pro or any device specifically made to run wp7. My screen sensitivity could be better, there is a considerable amount of lag when loading games/programs, and live services after today will not work with the hack in place. The live experience is considered key to microsoft. I actually like it lol
But I think you should play with both devices if you can for a day or so and decide from there.
If those are the things you use your phone for, I'd say to go with the HD7.
The Desire will give you functionality that isn't quite available on WP7 handsets yet, but since you're not using them, then I'm going to assume that you just want a well implemented experience for the things that you do use.
And for the things that WP7 does, it does extremely well.

What he said. Your specific needs will be taken care of very well. Zune is a much better music player than anything android has. The email integration on WP7 is very good and IE does a good job and will include HTML5 and Flash hopefully by summertime. Apart from that, WP7 has a sleek, quick and responsive interface, which android does not have. HD7 is a good fit for your needs, I'd say.
Since you did say you like WP7, the HD7.
If music, web and email is all you need, than WP7 seems like a fit for you.
The Zune experience is more than capable (blows away the competition, maybe not iOS), the browser is smooth and the email client is so good, that you won't ever need to rely on a third party app.
Get HD2. Apparently you can put android, wp7, anything on it -.-
First of all, THANX A TON all you guys! Now I am 99% sure of my decision (THE HD7!!!!) but just a couple of questions about something you guys replied...Like:

What exactly is the difference of functionality between Desire HD and HD7?? I mean both the phones have email sync, music etc etc...so where is the difference?

Yep..thats all I need...But I am a little confused about the Zune Backgrounds that keep changing with the artist I listen to,(since the Zune is one of the primary reasons I may buy HD7) HOW does this thing work??
I mean, I (obviously) have the desktop Zune software (which I LOVE BTW) but what about the phone background???
I mean, how does it work on the phone?? Does it download the BG from the net (I live in India BTW)
So..if you guys can help me in this last bit...
BUT again, THANX EVERY1....
Here's some stuff to think about.
If you want a phone that...
Works out of the box with little to no hassle: Both
Has a big community with lots of support: Desire HD
Has a large app store with more mainstream acceptance: Desire HD
Has a lot of power for movies, music, internet, and more: Both
Has an easy to use interface: HD7 is slightly more intuitive
Is very fast with more complex gestures: HD7
Supports turn-by-turn out of the box: Desire HD
Has a large media ecosystem with lots of content: HD7
I have both and must admit that after using the HD7 since launch, you become increasingly frustrated with the Lag of the Desire HD.
The Desire HD is a Fantastic phone, probably the best and smoothest Android you can buy. But the OS is not nearly as smooth or fluid as WP7.
The main benefits of each phone for me are:
Desire HD - Fully customisable - There's pretty much nothing can't customise
WP7 - Silky smooth and much easier to actually use day to day
To be honest the media player aspect of both phones is pretty much identical. They both play movies & music very well, albeit the way you navigate and use the media players on them is very different. But untill I see Android running as well as WP7, i'll be leaving the Desire HD with the mrs. and won't be giving them a second thought

Just what I wanted to hear. This Desire HD lagging is something I am getting to hear almost everywhere. But its good cause, its directly telling me HD7 is superb..which it is and I have made my choice I think....But again, the confusion amongst the WP7 phones...Mozart OR HD7?? Or even Samsung Omnia 7???

Android currently has more features than WP7 (cut n paste, voice turn by turn nav etc. For what you want (email, music etc.) WP7 will be fine.
I find IE on the HD7 very good, only thing I miss from my Desire is text reflow, but meh no biggie, there are also alternative browsers for WP7 in the market place.
The backgrounds are downloaded automatically form the internet, it has always worked perfectly for me, some people have had problems getting the backgorunds to display but there is a thread on here which tells you how to fix any issues you may have (I think it is to do with song ID tagging). It is a really cool feature BTW.

+1 You should watch out about what you say about Windows Mobile in an Android forum(Oh and what ever you do, don't say the word "iPhone") because there are some crazy people out there. And it's pretty obvious what your answer is going to be, if you were to ask someone if WM is better than Android in an Android forum then every one is going to say Android but if you ask which is better in an WM forum, people would say that WM is better.

Funny how that is.
The real answer seems to depend on personality, since they all have their strengths and weaknesses.
For me, it's all about being able to tinker and customize in Android, but i would never suggest it for someone like my wife, just cuz a phone is a different thing for her. Her unnamed device is perfect for her, but not for me.

Personally, i dont see anything great about window 7. I mean, its great looking but it doesn't look like something I'd want. They tried to simplify something and they did a too good of job to me. Its not really your phone, its what windows wwanted you to have. That little custimazations.

download files
share files
edit files
copy/paste to files
root
unlock
change microsd's
full backup/restore
flash
change
lag (this is a jab at everyone on android phones, because all our phones suck (LOL) and lag like hell according to wp7 users)
multi-task
change background
wifi (read about it)
ftp/sftp/bluetooth transfer, smb, telnet, scp (god i love scp), ssh, vnc
mp3 ringtones
avi
mov
porn
PORN DID YOU READ THAT, IT DOESNT DO PORN !!!
what else really matters after that one ?

that being said, it's UI is buttery smooth. one thing at a time smooth. ONE desktop/window manager/whatever at a time. one app. 1. uno.
i was surprised just how smooth the UI was when i toyed with one. it really is smooth. like butter. butter on a sidewalk. don't wanna fry much on a sidewalk, it'll get in your teeth, ya know ?

I was going to bash WP7 as well, but i figured i ought not too.... However, not to "bash them" pers'e, One of my REALLY good buddies got a Win7 phone, and HATED it, turned it back in after 2 weeks of using it.
I played around with it... and although yes, it was "buttery" smooth (which was REALLY nice)... that was about all it had for it.. what bugged me the most about it... ZERO, ZILCH, NADA, Absolutely NO customization/personalization.... And to me, that's a huge deal. Now for someone that doesn't want/need all that Personalization, or customization, i would say it is a nice phone.... it is VERY smooth.
ever since i had a tmobile wing and att 8525 with wm5 i wont go back. same thing when i had a blackberry.
it seems i went from worst operating system and kept moving to better ones.
random nokia phone -> att 8525 -> blackberry 8320 -> blackberry 8900 -> motorola cliq -> g2
finally i got a phone that does almost everything exactly how i want. I wish the buttons on my g2 worked like the blackberry ones. with forward/reverse track and pause/play >< but at least its fast as hell and all my emulators work perfectly.
I have both the G2 and the HD7. Love them both equally. Android for its customization abilities and WP7 for its simplicity. why discriminate? some days i feel like an android guy and some days i feel like a WP7 guy. Life is too short to have just one phone let alone one OS
Never had a windows phone but I too am interested in trying wm7 a little bit.
They call is bi-os-curious hahaha
Hey tomorrow I have to purchase a new phone for myself.
Previously i owned HTC Viva wm 6.1 phone. I was very happy with it as i can remote desktop my servers, install, play with lot of apps, can view my office docs etc, copy data from any PC but thing missing were GPS and a faster CPU. And at the END that phone was stolen.
Meanwhile i used a cheap Nokia as in interim phone.
HD2 launched: HD2 and Wp7 announcement was made. I was daily visitor of HD2 forums (XDA) learned it was a cool device for me. then the fear of wp7 not upgrading on wp7 dealyed my purchase.
I eagerly followed all wp7 presentations, seminar, webcast etc and believed its a good os by good company.
HD7 launched: Loved its specs and was really looking cool, especially the facebook integration and was very excited. Loved its speed and positive reviews But i looked some of the programs like skype which did not have app for wp7 and copying data only through pissed me.
I didn't liked Android because of its look and feel. and thread by me supports this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624884
Desire HD launched: That one exicted me the specs similiar to HD2 and HD7. I said hey why not look at android when whole world is going after android. And I found it has everything what windows mobile provided and a it more like resolution, 720p videos , google voice support free, skype app. and top of that htc sense , htc offline gps maps locater, www.htcsense.com feature. So I have decided to buy this one.
Hey this is not a flamewar topic and dont start here I like both of them infact are cool to have. If possible I would love to have the wm6 like customization on hd7 or wp7 like UI on DHD both ways are good
Now my questions.
Best feature i like on HD7 is live tiles and facebook integration and live update.
Can we get similiar experience on DHD.
How is the sound quality (call) as well music quality through Headphones.
Is there anything I will miss If I go with DHD not buying HD7?
Sorry I posted in the wrong forum. was trying to post in DHD forum. Mods can u move this to Desire HD forums.

Ehrm.. Well, yeah. The entire WP7 experience. I.e. a phone that just works.
Although, reading your post I think a HTC HD2 would be the perfect device for you as you could run WM6.5, Android or WP7. Hell, you could dualboot your pick of two if you so wanted.
Get the HD7 made for Wp7 and works well. I only wish it had an SLCD.

Wow, there's long thought that you have..
Anyway, it's the same thing going through my mind.. actually, my dhd is a mistake that i make.. originally, i had place my orders on hd2.. Until that thing came to the store after 3 weeks of waiting, it was broke, not functioning at all, not even start up, even with charger.. they even told me that was the only stock, and if i want a replacement, i have to wait for another 1 month, what the heck..
Then, the store offered me wp7, and i said, i want ONLY hd7, none others.. after 2 weeks of waiting, the only thing that came was htc mozart and 1 unit of dhd to put on demo.. as i want only 4.3" screen, i buy the dhd because of i need phone asap..
And, it was the most beautiful mistake i ever made.. The phone is fast, vibrant and huge.. And the ability to hack (hd2 is far more hackable) puts my dhd stay in front of current htc release version on android.. Use gingerbread from cm7, and love it more every minute..
I would say, go for it, buy dhd, and u'll be amaze..

Do you think it still needs window 7 looks, because believe me, you can do lots, try rooting your phone, adding a custom rom,
i even put a theme together, with more apps on one row in the ap drawer, transparent all over, to give it a glassy effect, even the right hand key you can change it to whatever you want!
loads you can do with android, i hate windows phones now but was a huge fan of them, previous phones include, xda orbit2, htc touch hd, hd2
welcome to android
Welcome to android. I can't speak for wp7 facebook integration, but dhd has enough of it(for my taste) , you get more apps, roots and customizations . I read your post about different os, you sound like someone in need for a wm 6 is with a modern feel, well android is just for you. I love both my phones, and I wait for official cm to remove all the bugs from my hd2

Takes at least a week before the battery behaves like it should
I had a HD2 and loved it really was deliberating about getting a DHD as i literally had one already with HD2 and android.
I really liked the windows homescreen with CHT mods and then being able to pop into and out of android seemed the perfect system for me.
But about 3-4months now with the DHD i've put a few custom roms on and i love it, so silky smooth and fast, its smooth in a way the HD2 won't ever be purely because of hardware.
My HD2 was brilliant but the DHD is just awesome IMO

Update: Battery is working like it should be ....(3g & flash disabled, I will write a threat for battery improvment ) . ..This is the best OS + Hardware Combination. It has the flexibility of Windows Mobile and intuitivness / smoothness of iphone. meaining best of both worlds.
But I m fed up with one thing with this phone, whenever i took my cell out of my pocket colleagues asks for it, thrn i hav to demo them and as word of mouth spreads more pppl want to see it. Chicks ask for it please give me ur cell for five mins etc etc....

Dam i'm taking mine back must be faulty not once has that happened to me
I, personally, hate the new HTC Hub. I think it's full of wasted space and prefer the older version. I hate how they add a list of cities I've never been to and will never visit. I'm not an international business man, just a regular user in the US. Why the hell would I care if it's raining in Moscow and sunny in Tokyo? Don't care about New York or LA either. And I'm pretty sure that most people don't dabble in stocks. That feature should be optional. I just think they could have done better with the space they had. And the graphic animations were kinda cool in the old one.
/end rant
Anyways, I was wondering if other people felt this way. Tell me what you think.
I prefer newest version because:
- weather fullscreen animation and sounds effect (IMO - nice),
- Stocks - I use that for show exchange rates (my currency is Polish zloty eg. USDPLN=x shows how much cost is U.S. dollar (in Polish zloty), EURPLN=x; CHFPLN=X),
- news - I can add my prefers RSS chanels,
I do not need to install other apps (like: Stocks, RSS reader, Weather).

The cities were always in the HTC hub and have always been listed in the HTC weather app on all HTC's OS platforms so that's not a new feature it takes about 30 secs to delete the extra's.
It looks to my like they've taken the widget animations from their Android devices to replace the original on load animations, going deep into weather shows the old ones.
I prefer the new one except the wheather animations were much, much better on the old one!

I never said it was new. But the old one didn't have them taking up most of the home screen. You could swipe up or down if you wanted to see them. And yes, you can delete them. What does it leave you with? A whole lot of empty space. I'm quite familiar with both versions. I still don't like the new one.

I prefer the new one, as I no longer need the slow and uglu Accuweather app to get more detailed information. The hub data is sourced from Accuweather anyway.
