Anyone else notice this?
When my Lumia 900 display backlight is set on low, the colors seem... off. However, when its on high, they look normal.
I did not have any color issues like this with my old Focus.
I've noticed this to somewhat,I'm sure it has something to do with the amoled screen, I however have been having issues with WiFi,I never seem to get a good solid connection even when I'm in the same room as the router, sometimes itll work fine,but it acts as if it cuts in and out

Thats why I mentioned I had a Focus, I believe it has the same type of screen. Minus the Nokia ClearBlack of course.

My lockscreen image's colors look much much darker unless I put the screen brightness at mid or high.
Does your issue go away if you turn the brightness up?

Just came across this forum and a thread on the pink screen issue.
Do you reckon this one has the same issue?
All of the phones are the exact same and have the exact same "issue". I use my phone on maximum brightness all the time so I never notice it. It's only noticeable if you use the phone on the lowest brightness setting (Why anyone would buy an AMOLED phone just to use it on the lowest brightness is beyond me)

Is that true? Does everyone have a pinkish screen if u run it in the lowest brightness? (Havent gotten my Desire yet.)

Yes i'm fairly sure they do. But at anything over the lowest brightness it doesn't occur. Again, why you would buy an AMOLED to use it on lowest brightness is beyond me

Check the appropriate thread: there is a huge difference between handsets. Most are like this, some are totally unaffected and some are basically defective.
Yes poor answers, I do not have any pink even on the lowest brightness settings. This means your device is defective and you should get it replaced as many others have done. And yes there is a thread dedicated to this issues:

Im a total OCD for these kind of things. pink issue, dust under screen, dead pixels etc... I don't have the pink issue. It was one of the biggest concerns for me when I ordered the phone. I had seen sample photos from the nexus one that had pink etc. I think there are two issues. A screen issue, and a camera issue? anyway, I don't have pink in my screen at low setting (which I use ALL the time indoors to consevre battery) or any other setting. I also don't have pink in any pictures or videos I made with the phone.

What do you think of the examples i posted?
I only notice the off-pink tint in GMail. Nothing major tbh.
I cannot see any pink on your photos at all, but I went to my brightness settings and copied what you did in the screen shots and YES my gray looks like it has a red/pink/rose tint at the VERY lowest setting. At 5% brightness it's fine, gray. at 0% setting it has the rose tint. This is NORMAL and a limitation of the display technology (pentile matrix). If this is what you mean, your screen is normal. It's only certain shades of gray that will be affected by this and normally only at minimal brightness settings. I thought you meant you had a pink blob on the screen centre etc? If you just mean the gray menu and ntificaiton bar etc appearing slightly rose coloured at lowest setting, this is normal. I presume the grays are fine when the you move the brightness bar up from 0% to 5% or 10% setting?

On many phones or laptops the screen blinks really fast (probably to preserve energy). Many people seem to be ok with /don't notice that, but it really drives me nuts when a device does this. There's no way for me to preview how the screen works before buying, so please tell me - does Galaxy Nexus' screen blink? (And I mean really fast turn off - turn ons, like 60 times per seconds or so)

You mean refresh rate? ALL screens have a refresh rate. That's how the image changes. As for the Max refresh rate for the gnex panel, I'm assuming it's 60hz, which is standard for most android phones.

Are you talking about the Auto brightness flashing when the screen changes brightness or the refresh rate. The flashing with Auto brightness can be fixed with a rom that lets you change the auto brightness. You can search the forums on how to do that with CM9. The refresh rate is stuck the way it is no way to change that. I do not think i have ever seen a refresh rate problem.
I've never seen nor experienced anything similar to this. Or even heard of it anywhere except on the One X.
I am okay with it although I am not bothered even at 50Hz, some people can be extremely sensitive and there's no way out of that. I watched lots of Nexus reviews on youtube and I never seen the screen flicker effects. 50fps videos looks very smooth on Nexus.
For America, there is the Nexus for Sprint and Verizon so you might be able to try them out in the store.

Samsung phones use AMOLED screen which they manufacture. I don't know a lot about OLED technology, but the pixels light up themselves, therefore backlight is not used with OLED screens. AMOLED screen can achieve exceptional black level and high contrast ratio. As for how fast the subpixels in an AMOLED screen blink, I have no idea.
Before you get the Nexus, you should also read up on Pentile matrix versus RGB matrix. The Nexus and SIII use Pentile matrix making things appears grainier on close up. But for me, the Nexus screen is beautiful.
If you can find a store that sells a galaxy nexus, head in and see if you can see that "blinking". Personally, I haven't seen that blinking issue on my gnex.

No it doesn't flicker. Its an amoled screen so there is no traditional backlight. Individual pixels light up rather than needing a backlight.
Nexus has no flicker. Its smooth as butter.

You need a damn microscope to even tell the screen is pentile. Or hold the phone directly in front of your face.
I've notice the screen will smear/lag behind while displaying "true" black (pixels are off) areas of the screen in fast motion (pictures, backgrounds, etc...). I'm sure this is a common problem with this display type as I've read similar things before (purple or black), but wanted to make sure all is well on my expensive new toy. It seems to happen more when the brightness is turned down, but it can also be noticed heavily on gradient backgrounds while scrolling left/right on the home screen. Turning up the brightness does resolve the issue for the most part (you can still see it, but it goes away much quicker), but why is it so apparent on this display versus others (Galaxy S5)? Maybe having many more pixels to flip on and off in the affected area is the cause due to the phone having a 2k display versus the 1080p display of the Galaxy S5. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Yep. I too have the exact same issue. I wonder what the consequences will be when using thw Gear VR with our Note 4... probably weird smushy images I'm guessing
I've had this issue as well. I was on a Plane at night watching Dark Knight Rises. I have auto brightness on so it dims in lower lighting but in that movie there's a lot of dark scenes and you can def see the lag with the pixels during fighting scenes and fast movement.

i have no idea what to do and i dont want to visit service on the holiday season..... :crying:
Mine does this also. Only when the brightness is extremely low. I think it has something to do with the pixels being "lazy" when the brightness is low. It would be a drawback that comes naturally from the benefit we get with OLED.
EDIT: To sum it up, nothing is wrong, it's natural, just turn up your brightness when it is critical to not have the smearing.

Word. I only noticed it in low brightness levels so I'm not worried. At least blacks are actually black, instead of some purple-ish weird color they had back in the first Note.

The poor color reproduction is the exact reason this is my first OLED screen. They've finally got it right.

Is it just some minor smearing while scrolling? I'm pretty sure most if not all devices I have used have this a little when scrolling quickly.

its an 1 inch smudge while i'm in the gallery, or 0.2inch smudge while viewing movies (POC: On stranger's tide for example)
haven't noticed it in any games other than minecraft(clouds go purple) ! (i don't play it, touch controls act weird on my note)
I had ordered OP3 on the day of launch and got it the next day. After using the phone for about 5 days, I noticed that the top part of the phone had a bad pink tint which was clearly noticeable on White and Grey backgrounds at any brightness. I sent the phone back for replacement and got a new one few days back. The phone looked almost perfect and have been using it for around a week now. Yesterday I bumped on another thread in a forum when I saw a peculiar screen uniformity issue in only one particular shade of Grey.
Steps to reproduce the issue
1) Open the below link in Chrome in a dark room.

2) Reduce the brightness to just above the minimum brightness (5-10%) with adaptive brightness turned off.
3) Go to Display settings --- Turn on Night mode --- Increase the slider below to the maximum.
4) Scroll to the 3rd image (the one after Black)
5) Mine has uneven brightness. Some part of the screen is darker than others.
6) Increase the brightness to say 25-30%. Everything looks uniform.
7) Scroll to other images (other shades of grey) and no screen uniformity issues at any brightness.
Now, I am not sure if I should send this back again. I don't use such brightness levels even in night and I don't see any screen uniformity issues in any other brightness levels or shades. I also searched in internet and found similar issues being reported in Nexus 6P, S6, S7, etc in Reddit, xda, etc. There are people who have RMA'd their devices 5-6 times without much luck. From what I have understood till now, AMOLED's are not really perfect in displaying Grey at extremely low brightness. Or may be, its due to the current software targeting the NTSC Gamut ? Anandtech recently said that sRGB update (coming in 3.1.4) has made considerable improvements in Greyscale accuracy.
Before I even think of sending the phone for 2nd replacement, I would like to know how's the screen uniformity with others here.
I did the screen test the moment I got the phone everything turned out good, I was really worried after reading the reviews on the net about the screen. But it seems like only handful of people are facing the problem.
Can you please let me know how you tested it ? I too had tested it on Day-1 since this is the second OP3, using "Screen Test" app and everything looked good. Only one particular shade of gray at low brightness creates this problem.

Yeah I definitely have the same uneven brightness on the dark grey on the right side, it's even visible on the notification drop down. Like you, I'm wondering if it's something that can be fixed, or something I should bother RMAing, am I just gonna have the same thing again? It's strange, it looks like uneven backlight but there is no backlight.

I was looking at my phone, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, and I noticed some kind of ghosting or burn in or something. It looks like the image of icons that were on the screen, and are burned in. Any ideas? I included a pic I hope will explain better.

The pixels are wearing out from use. Blues go first, reds last generally from wear.
Use manual brightness control. Avoid use in direct sunlight. Keep brightness no higher than needs. Use dark mode and dark wallpapers.
Rotate widgets and icons.
My homepage and settings tweaked to minimize premature display wear.

Negative. It's a normal wear thing.
It's possible the manufacturing quality of that display wasn't good. See if you can badger Samsung into a warranty repair or reduced repair price. There have been a lot of issues across the board with variable refresh rate displays. One reason I stayed with the N10+.
Using dark mode and dark wallpapers will make less noticeable.
In the future take steps to prevent this with a new display. Yeah they get very bright but organic LEDs aren't as robust as their thicker non organic counterparts. Limit max or near max brightness to seconds not minutes. Avoid using in sunlight whenever possible. A 50% max limit except for some vids is sensible and helps a lot. Use lower levels in dimmer light, don't burn your retinas or display out.
