Unlock/Change carrier r800x - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

1. Do I need to unlock bootloader in order to unlock/change carrier of my r800x?
2. How do I check if my r800x has unlocked bootloader or not?

1. The R800x does not work on any other carrier than Verizon Wireless
2. If you dont know, then it is for sure locked.

I've seen at least one poster on this forum using an r800x on a smaller carrier.

It isn't possible because you can't put a sim card in the phone since it has no slot for it. also it is cdma and the other sim card play models are gsm. the r800x was built to stay on verizon wireless.

If you could do it right, you might be able to get it working on MetroPCS

Funny you mention that. There IS a Sim Card slot on the R800x. There's just a stupid piece of black plastic glued onto it. I peeled it off and found the Sim Card slot. If you want a pic I'l show you.
I just don't know if it works.

Xperia Play can be flashed to 'other' CDMA networks:
I've been using Verizon phones flashed to Cricket since 2007... including my current R800X! ;^ )
After paying $100+ to flash/activate my first xv6700 to Cricket, I have been doing it myself ever since...
My current R800X is 'fully flashed' to Cricket (including MMS functions),
and I have had 3. Here are the resources I've used:
*substitute . for (dot) w/ no spaces! LOL (sorry I'm noob)
Flash/Programming Tools (I had Droid Xs/X2 before the XPs, and these worked):

Well I'm using a r800x with other carrier in India. The reason I asked the question is because I bought the phone who had already did the job of changing the carrier and ofcourse he won't tell me how he did it. :banghead:

I have a R800x that i bought from C Spire(used to be Cellular South)

Thats a negative ghost rider!

It's CDMA. CDMA cannot be SIM-Unlocked/Network-Unlocked which you are looking for due to hardware limitations (as in the SIM slot being disabled).
I had an idea that 216monster was supposed to try, but I don't know if he eventually got around to it.
EDIT: Of course, that is only for GSM networks. I don't know about the process of going from a CDMA network to another CDMA network.

Ok, yes the r800x (Verizon xperia play) can change carriers. But the carrier has to also work on a CDMA network. If it doesn't the phone wont work end of story. If the carrier is CDMA you will need to look up how to flash the phone to operate on there network. Some carriers will do this for you but MOST wont. Infact MOST will tell you you cant do it. From what I have read yes you will need to unlock your bootloader to change carriers.
Get the idea of a sim card out of your head now. The sim card slot is as real as the hidden hdmi port. IT DOESN'T EXIST! Unless you have one of the bata models which wouldn't be possible since there GSM phones.

I know , I couldn't help it, I love that saying! Plus I'm willing to potentially destroy something..except I believe I read the sim slot physically doesn't work, so it could be beyond your idea, which was still a good one IMo.

It may have the slot, but SIM cards won't work in it. GSM and CDMA are two different technologies. CDMA does not use SIM, and CDMA phones cannot use SIM cards. If you stuck a SIM in that tray, it wouldn't work.

Never said it would work. He was denying there is a sim card slot in the R800x (CDMA model). Hardware wise, it is disabled, but it's there physically.

I have one from Bluegrass Cellular. Does firmware for Verizon R800x will work (also, unlocked bootloader needed for ROM rom that I want)?

Mytouch Slide on AT&T question

Hello all, I'm about to purchase a Mytouch Slide for use with AT&T, and wanted to make sure I wasn't going to have any issues with anything not working (GPS, SMS/MMS, etc.). I know I won't have AT&T 3G, only EDGE, but I can live with that. I searched but found very llittle on the subject, I'm assuming thats because both this handset, and this section of the forum, is fairly new.
Hopefully I'll be able to learn more about the handset in the next few weeks, and be abe to start helping others around here too. This appears to be a rather productive, professional forum. To that end, I'll say thanks in advance
What exactly are you asking.
So far the only people I know of, that can unlock this Phone is T-Mobile. Also, you must have an account in good standings & be a customer longer than 3 months..

What, really? So, I can't just buy one from, anywhere, and go use it? I'm new to this whole unlocking thing (CDMA background, and I work for a CDMA carrier), so I'm not really sure how the unlocking process even works. I guess that means I'd be much better served purchasing one that is already unlocked?
Well you can ask them lol but yah Check local listings new mytouch slides are only 300 and get them unlocked idk XD sorry

I'm sorry, I don't understand what your post says. The MyTouch Slide is significantly more than $300 new. It was posted above that they can't be unlocked. Are you stating that infact isn't true, and they can be?

unlocking works the say way it does for CDMA as it does with GSM. The only difference is instead of having to take my GSM phone to my carrier (or call them) to have my ESN number changed to my new unlocked phone like i would have to do with a CDMA phone. I can just pop my SIM card into my new unlocked GSM phone.
Even if you work for a CDMA carrier you should know that. If you work for any cell phone carrier you should know that

I understand the idea behind being able to take my sim card out of one GSM phone, and put it into another. The network looks for the info on your sim, not your ESN/MEID. And honestly, the only carriers that 'unlock' any CDMA phones currently are a couple of the pre-paids (MetroPCS & Cricket) as far as I know. You can't take a Verizon phone to Sprint, or visa versa. I work for a MetroPCS retailer, I know all about flashing CDMA phones to the MetroPCS network, and it's alot more than simply opening it up to be able to be used with anybody. Not to mention needing to use a 3rd-party flashing software that will flash Metro info to the device, as well as extract the MEID from the handset and add it to the MetroPCS database so the MetroPCS activation system will recognize it as a usable handset. So, it's really not a fair comparison.
Regardless, it still leaves my question unanswered. I've never dealt with GSM phones outside of simply buying a new one at the AT&T store. Being able to 'unlock' it to use with any carrier is a new idea to me. So, instead of everybody telling me I'm stupid and that I should know how it works, can ANYBODY point me in the direction of an explanation of what it takes to unlock a GSM phone, what changes need to be made, and why a MyTouch Slide is special WRT it not being able to be unlocked?

Might I ask how you got yours unlocked?
I got mine unlocked from theremoteunlocker.com
Gsm phones are locked via its hardware just like how when you use your pc the bios is software interlayed into your mobo so they could lock it if they wanted to only accept the types of processors they accept e.g tmobile locked their phone (the mobo) to only accept the tmobile simcard (the processor) the unlock code is a delevoper or admin unlock code that removes the simcard lock so you can use any simcard on it

I'm assuming by perfect you're not including 3G since the slide isn't set or rather, doesn't contain the correct radio module to use AT&T's 3G band. Or does it and we're being lied to by the carriers (no surprise there) hmm...

[Q] "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network."

I purchased a r800a phone that is supposedly both rooted and unlocked (2.3.3). It appears to work with AT&T, but fails to work with my provider... T-Mobile. There appears to be no place to enter a PIN code as well to unlock the phone. The app superuser is on the phone, so that is why I believe it may be unlocked. When I insert my SIM card (or any other T-Mobile SIM card), it senses that one is plugged in, but fails to connect to the server when I search for networks. I have created a new APN designed for T-Mobile US, but that has not helped. I have the network mode set at GSM only. I also receive a yellow warning sign that states: "no service selected network (t-mobile) unavailable". Does anyone have any suggestions? Besides the obvious take out the battery or turn on and off the airplane mode of course.
It seems your phone is rooted, but not SIM unlocked. You have to talk to somebody on this forum named Alejandrissimo if I am not mistaken. He can do it for you real quick. Though, this information is just what I have gathered from creeping these threads so if I am wrong, don't hold me to it!
Yes i can unlock it, also check if you model is R800at instead a or i
If yes then is an Xplay 4g locked to att, I just answered you email
I think I am having the same problem. I am on rogers. Is there any chance you could help me out with this?
Again... my SIM works in other phones. Other SIMs don't work in my phone.
I get the message "Your SIM does not allow a connection to this network"
Thanks

Search the forums and google for what is called "trim area" (TA) because At&t and T-Mobile have a few different frequencies they use, the device might not be seeing the T-Mobile ones. I had the same problem a while back, there are some TA flashing programs online through websites or you can contact a user name Alejandrissimo through his Xperia Unlocker website, he can flash a TA file from another R800A that is functioning on T-mobile, he has many TA files for R800A / R800AT that work on T-Mobile which he backed up from users.

First you need a sim from another network provider. Once you have it put it in then enter the pin you got given. Its now unlocked. Lastly some networks do work with others so to check if you have an unlocked network already go into call settings and network service (may be called something different on your phone depending on current network) unlocked networks appear with a home sign/any sign that isnt a red cross (again depending on network) or go to a place that unlocks phones. Simplez.

The process seems simple enough, but from where would I obtain the PIN? I know there are various websites and whatnot, but is there one that people have used in the past with success? I just want to be sure, because I'm looking at buying a used Galaxy W, but don't want to be stuck with it locked on Bell..

The pin will come on the paper the sim comes with. If you buy it off a contract it will be unlocked for you as long as you only use the network providers sim that you got the contract off.

Alright, I got my Rogers SIM card last year, but I don't know where any of the packaging currently resides. But if I call rogers, they should be able to provide me with this information?
Sorry, it just seems counter intuitive that information with my sim card would unlock a newer, off carrier phone.

You might (only might) get the pin off them. There should be a default pin set for every sim at the start. All sims coming from the same mobile network provider have one pin.

[Q] Sprint LG Optimus G not "internationally compatible"?

Hi, I'm in America most of the time, but looking for an Android phone that could potentially be rooted/unlocked and then take a local SIM card in Eastern Europe when I'm back there.
I saw on the Wirefly listing (can't put full link because i'm new but wirefly and then /product/sprint/lg/optimus-g/)
"Internationally Compatible - No"
Do you think that Sprint LG Optimus G will be capable of doing what I'm describing (with some modification)? Or, alternatively how about the AT&T model?
If not, what do you think is the best phone for potentially working abroad with a local SIM? I'm out of contract and open to any Android/WP8 phone on any network.
Thanks!!
AT&T version is more likely because it has a sim card slot while the Sprint version doesn't.

They do for LTE, but I believe its embedded. If you can get to that by unscrewing some stuff, you can probably be gsm if you (or I) add some radio files from the nexus 4.

As latindor17 said a gsm phone from a US provider would have a sim card. Sometime ago I used a prepaid sim card in my unlocked T-Mobile phone for voice calls in Europe, the card had an option for a US phone number, so I forwarded my T-Mobile number and never missed a call. No bargain tho paying by the minute. Not sure what options are available for data, I relied on WiFi.

afaik, all Sprint embedded "sims" are actually eUICC chips... no actual card is used. This has been the case for all current LTE devices, minus the iPhone 5.

well a man can hope right? and from my extensive research i have found that because of the fancy L the only way to unlock this is via a dude on ebay, or a code directly from t-mobile. i doubt t-mobile would do this for a non-contract phone though. it certainly does suck to suck.

"Doesn't recognize it" please explain what exactly what is happening. If it is still asking for a SIM to be inserted, you will need a new SIM, but if it is asking for a Unlock PIN Code or similar, then you will need to unlock the phone to use with a non-TMo provider. Personally, I think that since you cut the SIM and it is not lining up. You should get a new (factory made, not cut) Micro-SIM. Also, I believe that it should work with Simple, Straight Talk and Walmart Family on any TMo phone.
