[MOD] Modified & LagFixed TouchWiz Launcher

As you know, in galaxy s when we install 4-5 page programs , lags is appear
The touchwiz launcher is lagy too and when we Turn pages the lags is apear
I decompile touchwiz.apk and i explore folders and in res folder i saw few folders that named xxxx-xxxx-1024x600 and i guess this names means 1024x600 pixel like galaxy tab and samsung create a touchwiz that could be use in galaxy s and galaxy tab!
I decided to deleted that folders had a 1024x600 in the last of name and i compile apk and push it to galaxy and i see that is work lagless and very fast and smooth
I made an update.zip of this modified touchwiz and upload in attachment
Guys you can test it and leave Comments on this topic
I forget something
I change the homescreen_menu_shortcut_bg.png with glass one and you can see in pic
What firmware versions does this work on?
Does it overwrite the default TouchWiz?
Is it compatible with any Lagfixes?
this launcher is last version of touchwiz that used in jpm/jp6 roms and must work on any version of roms
yes , this launcher is compatible with any lagfixes
I am sorry, what has been changed from default?
Lowered the resolution or something?
i think you should work with the guy that did the TW mod script:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792817
together you can hack tw and make it work better
Just flashed it via CWM on Voodoo-Doctor-Edition-JP6 and seems to be lagless flipping between pages. G8 job!
Amazing!!!!!!!!
It works!!!!!! Great Work!!!! This launcher is more fast, even using various widgets and an animated desktop. Thanks!!!!

No, based on what he wrote, he deleted icons and textures for use on Galaxy Tab. I wonder if it really does make it faster, though.
No effect here. Still laggy as hell.
EDIT: maybe it's because I'm using a lagfix? I have 5 pages of apps. Not that much if you ask me :S
Can you guys still uninstall apps from the drawer?
Last time I replaced TWlauncher I had lost this ability.
interesting.....
I recommend editing the LauncherConfig.java class to enable the fly in effect when opening the app menu, pretty nice.

My attachement contains a classes.dex which has the ability to uninstall (non system) apps from homescreen + fly in effect.
Remove .apk and .odex first, then push this to system. I always switch to an other launcher before doing that..
@Spike_M
When I delete all folders with 1024*600 in the name, apktool gives some errors..
On reboot touchwiz doesn't load - it gives me a fc error: The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly.
How do I go back to the original touchwiz?

Do you have adb enabled? Otherwise you have a problem..
I have adb installed, but my pc won't detect the phone when plugged in via usb.
It seems like the only solution is to flash another update.zip via recovery. An update.zip of the original touchwiz should work, if someone would be kind enough to put one together. I wouldn't know where to start...
Edit: or is there a way to install an apk via the recovery menu? Long shot, I know. I was thinking installing LauncherPro would bypass the fubar'd tw.
i use modified launcher and its work like a charm
for those guys want to get back original touchwiz
1- download update.zip in attachment and copy it to your internal memory
2- instal it from recovery 2e or cwm recovery

Thanks but I can't access the internal memory of my phone. Now what?
Tw launcher is definately faster now. Try pinch to zoom and see! It even made me consider reverting from launcher pro.. Great fix, thanks!
its not 100% perfect but youre as close as ive ever seen anyone come so far!
damn nice fix!
I think I noticed an small improvement with that fix: 55apps installed (6 pages in app drawer), but there is still some lag...
By the way I'm really glad that there is people trying to improve the performance of TW. I really like TW but the app drawer is laggy I'm still using froyo stock launcher...

How to back up widget on screen

Hi guys
I'm working on a them for our gs, with launcher pro plus
My theme use a lot of widget and complexe position in different screen (7)
Is it possible to create a back up for all the widget and their position and cook a rom that use all my work ?
the idea is: you flash my custom darky , and after the install and 1st boot, you have all widget in their right place in launcher pro
But A thing makes me perplexed .
When i go to launcher pro tools, at "back up homescreen ans sittings" there is a prevent message:
Due to limitation in the Android system, widget connot be backed up.
Click to collapse
Damned
Anybody have a solution to this?
is it realy IMPOSSIBLE to make something like that with android and launcher pro?
I can believe that..
Here's a trick
When restoring with launcher pro do this :
Restore
Then when it says to restart launcher pro, reboot your phone instead
When it loads your widget's should be functional.
Try it out.
thanks for the tricks!
But is it possible to save all widget position and put them in a darky's rom , so everybody can have the same when flashing?
Well u can edit the default workspace xml or using the method described above make it so when flashing the update.zip of the rom, it places a preconfigured launcherpro backup into the /data/data folder of launcherpro and hence upon restart it should work.
^^ All theoretical

[Q]Clean & Fast Gingerbread ROM[Q]

Hi XDA,
So I surfed around the internet and found that there were no 100% Gingerbread non-modified, messed around with ROM's for the DHD. This is annoying because I recently changed from a Desire (Running Oxygen) to the Desire HD, and when it come's to custom ROM's, I like them as clean and as close to Stock as possible. I know I sound picky, but I suffer from OCD, and things like Cyanogen where the Menu has 5 apps in a row, and the UI is frankly 'rubbish*' annoy me.
So I was just wondering, is there anything I have missed? I would really like a close-to-stock ROM, just like Oxygen for the Desire on my DHD. If I could make the ROM myself, I would, but unfortunatly I'm not the sort of person that can do that, my computer skill's ain't so good. Let's put it this way, its Stock Gingerbread, or Stock Sense for me*.
I have tried Spike's Gingerbread and I didn't like it as it wasn't very fast and was bogged up with left-over Sense things.
*No offence to Cyanogen users, It's a personal opinion, not a description. The overall ROM is fast, and mostly bugfree, its just the UI that puts me off.
** I don't want a Sense ROM whatsoever, but if I can't find a stock ROM then I will go back to Stock Sense.
Uhhh, U know, that you can simply change the home-launcher to get another "GUI"?
I'm running latest CM7 nightly + LordMod 4.1 BFS Kernel + Zeam Launcher and everything is smooth as hell + the screen is "normal".

Well I know that I could simply download a launcher from the Market and set it? But then the ADW stuff would still show up in the Settings bit.

If you uninstall ADW, if you were on the Homescreen and Pressed Menu>Settings, ADW Settings would still appear on that list in Cyanogen even if uninstalled, am i correct?

I don't think so. It should be dead and gone.
To be sure, simply --> Install *insertrandomlanucherhere* --> switch to that launcher --> uninstall ADW.
I've never seen any remains from ADW.
To be 200% sure --> make use of Titanium Backups uninstall function.

Or, you could just take out the ADWLauncher.apk from the zip in the /system/app directory, and put whatever launcher apk you want.
I did just this with Launcher Pro and there is not a trace of ADW even on first boot...

[Q] Replace Default Launcher with Custom launcher

Hi guys
I want to flash a custom rom. But I dont like the default launcher (launcher2.apk) can I replace it with Launcher Pro and can launcher pro still be updateble through the market.
I deleteled the launcher2.apk from /system/app folder and added the launcher pro.apk but after I flashed the rom I saw that the market doesn't recognize the installed luncherpro. So is it possible that I put the launcher apk file in a non-root folder inside the flashable rom zip file?
Another question I downloaded the "maps5.8.0 ownhere testkeyresign.apk" to be able to have navigation support in my country. Now should I put this file inside /system/app before I flash the custom rom or should I install it later? Whats better?
Just download launcher pro from market install it and then delete the other launcher and u should be fine

To answer your launcher question, try installing launcherpro from the market, and THEN deleting Launcher2.apk, that way you will only have launcherpro, which would also be updatable. You can use android commander to do so (requires android-sdk)
And to answer your maps query, it doesn't really matter, if you put the .apk in the ROM before installing you won't be able to uninstall it in the future as it will be classes as a "system app".. that's the only difference.
Thanks for the answers. Looks like the best way is to install the new launcher and maps after I flashed the rom

put your maps in the /system/app if want to use forever if not should be in /data/app folder if your custom rom has this feature so you can uninstall this later- read about /data/app feature also if your custom rom has root feature or you have a rooted phone it doesn't matter - you can delete this apk with Root Explorer by example
regarding launcher apk Market doesn't recognize this because is signed differently than the apk from Market -let us say I download from Market an apk and decompile it... to compile back and make that apk I will use own signature to accomplish this task so is that Market will say yeah ! a new app there because this is signed by me not original developer or can be signed in Eclipse with debug signature- also this signature is not ok

About this thread of sir HCFROYD. The chobits have go launcher (the default launcher) right? So what did he do to make go launcher not active in active applications?
And im asking what if i flashed this
Chobits Go Launcher EX for all densities, (will replace current launcher as default) just reflash to switch to other Launcher.
*the most stable version of Go Launcher EX (skinned) that supports all lcd densities.
Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?t5m2a7t0lm3xsql
on my stock rom , will it make my default launcher change to go launcher and make that home launcher permanently as my default launcher??
Im on stock rom dxlc1 thanks for your answers.
upppppppppppppppp
That is only for ChobitsDigitalis ROM nd not stock rom,
You can simply install any launcher nd set it as default on stock.
After installing, press home button nd u'll get the option to set it as default..
Else go to manage applications and clear default for any other launcher u ate using now.
P. S. You can post such qns in the faq thread ;-)

What the guy said above will work.
Or if you dont want to set default, open the launcher that you just newly installed. Then minimize it and uninstall your current default launcher. The new launcher will be set to your default.
