voice roam? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

hey guys after years with sprint im giving up my evo3d with unlimited that, which unlimited doesnt matter since i can never use it,lol. anyway, i travel alot for work and cant find any voice roam with this phone, so does it roam off att? thanks

yes sir it does.

I, like you, came from Sprint and had the same question. T-mobile doesn't have voice roaming agreements like Sprint does with Verizon. Att can only be used in designated roaming areas. This leaves huge holes with zero coverage, even though att has service there.

That sucks to find out, i travel working. Is the roam function automatic or does it need to be enabled? I cant find any setting for it other then roam data.

There are other carriers T-Mobile has roaming agreements with, US Cellular among others. I've almost always had service wherever I go (besides mid-state Wyoming). Recently, I've even started getting EDGE/3G on otherwise desolate drives in areas where before I had voice service if I was lucky.

Are you prepaid or postpaid?

I want to know too

US Cellular? They are CDMA. I'm post paid. Check Cross Junction, Virginia on the TMob map. It has perfect ATT service, but I can't make a voice call anywhere on US 522 from Winchester to Berkeley Springs. I'm sure others have examples too...

I recently made a trip from WA to IL and there was zero tmo coverage for the most part. There was att though! Roaming of course... But it was edge most of the way.

EVO 4G Unlock and Activation on another CDMA Network

I got an EVO 4G at Google I/O, and since I live in India, didn't see much of a point in getting it activated.
SO, Now that a month is over, and the free service is over, I want to explore my options and see if I can activate this phone on an Indian CDMA Network (like Reliance or TATA).
I know the phone is physically compatible, as it was roaming (both voice, and data) on these two networks. I just want to figure out how it can be unlocked, and then activated with either of these networks. I have seen a Blackberry from Verizon activated with Reliance earlier, so am wondering if the same is possible with the EVO.
we can use verizon's network here by updating the PRL to one of theirs... if the fq is the same, maybe you could do something similar with your area's PRL files?
For flashing to other networks PPC Geeks and Howard Forums are the best spot to look. It's a pretty simple process (from what I understand of Android). By the way in the future refer to this pic when starting threads like this:

HTC EVO 4g Unlocked! (on Reliance now)
I was able to unlock HTC EVO 4g (Sprint) and made it work with Reliance CDMA. It was done with a help of a professional who charged me nominally for his service. I strongly suggest you get it done thro a knowledgeable person. For your reference, you could contact this guy who helped me at happydelhi at the rate gmail dot com.

Will a t989d work in the states?

I have an unlocked telus t989d
I will be moving to the states in a few months and i'm wondering if this phone will work on any network in the states. and if so, which network will it work on?
Thanks
Probably AT&T and Tmobile, as they carry identical phones except the AT&T version has LTE. The T-Mo ver is the same thing, but im guessing you could flash a t-mobile modem just to be sure.
Someone with more experience might know better though.
our phone woks on any cell provider in the world except JAPAN, just plug in a SIM card from your favourite local provider where you gonna be staying during the vacation / visit
Would it still be possible to flash an AT&T modem and just use their 3G network instead of the LTE? Just in case you're moving into
a more rural area where T-Mobile doesn't have acceptable coverage.

T-Mobile will be your best call since the phones are exactly the same in specs and radios, if you go to AT&T you won't get 3G coverage only 2G.

that is 200% incorrect
the T989 can get 3G/4G on any HSPA provider, except CDMA

+1 Confirmation as to what AllGamer says; I use an unlocked SGH-T989 on AT&T and get 3G/HSPA speeds. The icon just stays as 3G on stock rom.

Free Sprint Airave

Lastweek when I got my Siii - I called Sprint customer service line and just ask if they would send me an Airave. I did not threaten to cancel or anything as described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1189192.
The rep checked availability and shipped
In checking the the tracking number looks like it's sitting on my porch.
The rep said no charge, no changes to my service plan, no lease or anything. If I cancel my service I must send the device back. But while a customer I can use it free of charge.
:good:
I didn't even call they are giving them away like hotcakes now. I just used the sprint chat on their website.

Don't think Verizon needs to. They have awesome coverage (well in my area) unlike ****ty sprint. Can't even get 3g outside of my house I have to use the stupid air rave. Sorry for my language just blowing off some steam I have with sprint lol.

Lol. At home I have to rely on my Airave. It's that bad. Verizon and ATT phones work flawlessly.
I'm thinking of switching to Verizon or at&t. I've grown tired of this terrible coverage I have in my area.

I have 2 Airrave's on my account. 1 was free from Sprint. The other I bought off Ebay for like $60. Both are life savers. Wish Sprint would get it together already...
The number listed in the OP you reference is no longer in service. LOL!
New number is 1 866-866-7509

Yup that's what a lot people been talking about ,I have mine like that too, I also was able to get 15% discount and wifi calling free minutes

I love T-Mobile until I get about 10 miles away from a city center. then my 4g drops off. 20 miles and my 3G drops off. 50 miles and no data at all.
I snowboard a lot and At&t's coverage out in the sticks waaaaaaaay better than TMobile.
I was also in a grandfathered unlimited data everything+ plan that was hard to leave. Only paid $60 a month, for unlimited 4G... But, not being able to use data in rural areas killed it for me.
A friend of mine, who is with Verizon and works for a company that gets 20% off At&t bills, let me use his email to get a discount with At&t... softened the blow a bit.
I will say, if you're in or near a city, T-Mobile rocks and their HSPA+ is just about as fast as At&t's LTE.
That's not bad at all. I checked the coverage map though, and for me Tmobile looked really spotty. I'm on VZW (blech!), but usually the coverage at least is decent. I kept unlimited data, but if that ever goes away, I'll probably be at T-mo's door.
I'm lucky to be in a big market like Chicago, I never lose anything lol when I go to cali and bike or do moto in the Mojave I lose signal, but so does pretty much everyone

I had T-Mobile years ago, long before Smart phones were in. Couldn't stand them. This was circa 2005. Since then...
Well, after seeing all the rave reviews around here for T-Mobile I've been contemplating the jump. Unfortunately every T-Mobile user I've found in person in the area hates them. And after doing a speed test on a 4G phone... it was roughly 1/4th as fast as Verizon's 3G. Until T-Mobile brings some more speed to Rochester, NY... I'm sticking with Big Red.

Straight Talk

Can the htc one be used on straight talk? Im seeing they have much lower prices and am thinking about looking into it. Does anyone do it? What are the advantages or disadvantages?
It'd be best to grab a T-Mobile, at&t, or unlocked one tbh. Verizon would be much more of a pain in the butt to get working with straight talk.

Why is that? From what I have read straight talk uses Verizon networks.

http://dealnews.com/features/Lets-Discuss-Is-Walmarts-Straight-Talk-Wireless-Service-Any-Good-/669205.html This article should clear some stuff up for you. Honestly I think T-Mobile's $30/month is the best deal going around, but to each his own.
If you go to the straighttalk site they have a compatibility checker. http://www.byopfinder.com/byopfinder/straighttalk/index.html?fullscreen=true You just put in the phones esn and your zip code. When i put mine in it said it was compatible on either the at&t or t-mobile networks (gsm).

Straighttalk is great untill it gets twords the end of the month. Then it seems like they do some major data throttling. If your not to concerned with data speed, its a great deal. Call wise its excelent, at least in my area. I have an LG Optimus Showtime thru straighttalk from my job, but it is cdma and uses verizons towers.

Thanks I will read up on it. I would love to switch to T-Mobile or some other carrier, problem is I live in a very rural area and Verizon is the only option that has decent coverage out here.
