I have a pair of Skullcandy Aviators, which other than listening in stereo have no functionality. I am curious about other Skullcandy and other branded headphones. I would appreciate it if anyone would chime in with their own headphone experiences:
SKULLCANDY AVIATORS
Stereo music - yes
Stereo (dual-mono) calls - yes
Mic - no
Track skip - no
Track rewind - no
Volume up - no
Volume down - no
Call pickup - no
Call hangup - no
The Nokia Purity by Monster in ear work for:
Mic: Yes
Vol: Yes
Play/Pause: Yes
Call pickup - Yes
Call hangup - Yes
Master Search: Yes (Hold center button down) Make calls, search, open app, etc..
But sound bad for anything not based centered.
The over the ear Purity HD's sound pretty decent. More natural and not as bass heavy as Beats. They are made to control everything listed above.
I have the bowers and Wilkins p5. The inline buttons didn't work for my dvp and I doubt it will be any different for the lumia 900 since the b&w were geared for iPhones. But I will try and give my feedback here soon. I think the only thing that worked on my dvp and the b&w were Te mute button. I could receive a call but they couldn't hear me.
I have been trying to contact monster so I can ge a replacement inline cable from their HD purity. Cut the inline control off of that and fan my own to work with the b&w

I have the purity hd on-ear (not the in-ear), and the inline remote only works fully when the phone is unlocked, or on the lockscreen but not asleep. When the phone is asleep the volume will work all the time, the single press pause/play will work about 50% of the time, and the next/previous double/triple press works about 10% of the time. Needless to say, I'm amazingly upset about this. I'm taking them to the AT&T store in the morning to see if it's just my phone or all lumia 900's. Since this problem is amazingly similar to the problem I had with my Focus S, I'm suspicious to say the least.
A guy on wpcentral.com said the in-ears work completely all the time.
B & W C5: No workie
I was seduced by the B&W C5 and they have the iphone only disease.
The sound is just about perfect, which is why is so disappointing.
The worst part is that the connector layout not only prevents the in line mic from working, but the handset mic as well, so it's a 22X killer!
Play controls work
Volume control does NOT work
Mic does NOT work
The headphones I have from my Titan work perfectly. Play, Volume, and Mic all work. Even on the lock screen.

I picked up the over the ears on launch at ATT and returned them the next day. I purchased the in-ears from amazon and LOVE them.
Sound quality is good on both. I just did not like the over the ear feel and the controls did not work very well on them. I thought they were uncomfortable after a few hours of wear and had a terrible whistle from the wind.
The in ears are one of the best pairs of in-ears I have had. I am comparing them to SKull Candy and Ultimate ears.
They also match the phone rather nice and both have a really nice cord that wont tangle.
Also- The headphones that came with my Focus worked 100% with all the controls and dont sound too bad either. The Purity are way better. Worth the $100 price tag and Amazon overnighted them to me for only $3. Free 2 day shipping with prime.
Ditto for the purity in-ears here. They sound pretty good, and the controller works perfectly. I have no idea why the purity on-ears controller is so spotty, but whatever.
My only complaint is that the flat cable makes it difficult to wrap behind/over the ears to eliminate the thump bump, but otherwise I'm liking them alot.

Would you elaborate on this? If I pay $200 for mediocre sound quality headphones the controls better work.
Filo LU1 Smart Adapter
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/834115-REG/Fiio_LU1_LU1_Smart_Adapter_Cable.html
Has anyone tried this adapter with a Windows Phone?
Best way to describe it is inconsistent. The double tap, next track is the worst. Seems like volume control and phone answer is very consistent. As many others have posted, it may be a known bug when the phone is asleep when people are affected. My Samsung focus headphones worked better than the purity so take it for what its worth. Still very happy with the in -ear. Over the ear not as much but a majority of that is personal preferance. I still thing controls worked better on in ear model though. Only had over hear for one day to compare.
I use my old headset from the Focus, and I too have the issue with the track controls not working when the screen is off. I use the feature a lot when walking to class. I hate having to keep taking my phone in and out of my picket, or pressing the button over and over until it does what it needs to.
Hey guys I just got a set of Nokia bh-111 Bluetooth earphones but unfortunately I'm unable to make or receive calls. Though I can use all audio controls and even do voice to text? If anyone can chime in and help me out it would be appreciated!

I have this issue. Got a replacement and same issue so I'm thinking its a phone problem
I'm curious if you're trying only with the screen off, or with it on as well.
For me, all of the buttons except for the power button work very inconsistently with the screen off: the volume buttons on the phone, the camera button, and the headset button. They work 100% of the time with the screen on. I think it's just a software bug when the screen is off.
Also, other than the above issue, I believe that any single-button iPhone compatible headset should work. That's been my experience with three different headsets, the Etymotic hf2, the Phonak PFE122, and the Meelec M6P. Three-button iPhone headsets will not work because they do something proprietary.
I currently have a set of Nokia earphones that came with my old Nokia N8 and the controls on the earphones does not work. Even the sound is not full compatible... My other pair of ear phones that came with my Samsung Galaxy Player 5 works perfectly.
I got a pair of Bose MIE2i which are technically designed for iDevices and nothing worked except holding the middle button to invoke speech. But the mic didn't work so even that was useless. Button presses resulted in a weird click in the headphones too.
Exchanged today for the Bose MIE2 designed for 'everything else' and initially it wasn't working and then it was. Like there's a delay before the phone sees and starts working with them.
I may exchange again if the iPhone ones will work the same so I can use it on my iPad with the volume controls.
---------- Post added at 08:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:19 PM ----------
Addendum:
After some testing I'm finding that I have plug in and remove the headphones repeatedly until I hear a little click through the headphones. At that point the button on my headphones will control the music and speech recognition correctly.
Also, when the button works, the mic does too.
I'm finding this pattern on both my HD2 and my Lumia 900 so that kinda points at a WP7 issue.
Could a few of you with buttons that don't work try this out and see if it changes for you as well? Annoying but at least it opens an option (with some work).

I can't get wired headsets to work with my white mytouch 4g phone. I've tried diddy beata, bose, skullcandy, plantronics 216, and others. My phone shows the headset icon at the top, but the mic and controls don't work. I've gotten a warranty exchange on the phone, took. So, I'm wanting to know:
1.what wired headsets work for you?
2. Does it have more than one button controls?
3. What color is your phone?
Try the original headphones that come with the phone, if they don't work either goto your local tmo store with all your equip and see if they can't help you or exchange
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Did that
Original earphones work with controller and mic. That's what makes it even more confusing and frustrating. Even so,t mo did a warranty exchange and again, the box headphones completely worked, but no other one's did. When the 3rd party headphones are plugged in, the symbol shows its a headset, but the controls and mic functionality don't work. I have two going theories on 3rd party headsets for the mt4g, 1. Only one-button wired headsets work. 2. Something is goofy about a group of manufactured phones; ie one's made in china, whiter ones, etc.
People please help me with your responses on 3rd party headphones, as t-mobile and htc have neither been able to help!
Unfortunately, it looks like it only works with the stock headphones.
If you REALLY want to start working on this, i would suggest you root your device and begin cracking down at both the headphones and what is going on behind the scenes.
I've been searching for a while and still haven't found one that works as good as the stock (crap) headset.
Noticing pretty much ALL aftermarket headsets are made for apple and if they work with any android phones, you're lucky.
Use to have sony, but the only thing that worked was the headset for music. No controls and no mic. I'm currently using both the meelectronics m9p and the jlabs j3m along with PlayerPro. For the most part, the controls work ok, but the sound quality is way better than stock. Both has a single button.
For music:
can single click to pause/play
double click to skip forward
triple click to rewind to current song
quad click to go to previous
Single click to answer/end calls does not work. Instead, while on a call, a single click starts the music player.
None of the aftermarket headsets work entirely. From what I can find out, all the aftermarket 3 button headsets use the outside buttons for volume control.
If you're looking for the music controls, stick with your OEMs
If you're looking for better sounding headsets, any aftermarket will do.
If you're looking for both, go bluetooth. I use the MW600.
BTW. Black

Thanks well, that goes along with my other theory that only single buttons will w work. They need to make some simple adapter or s something. Stock headphones blow and hurt my ears. Don't want to use bluetooth because that sucks the battery down big time.
I'm told through htc that a3.5mm to micro usb may be a work-around. Will post if that works and if there's diminished sound quality.

WOW THANKS YOU SO MUCH! i purchase zagg in the earbuds thinking that the music control will work without flawlass with the stock player, but i was wrong...
But with Music PlayerPro Not music player pro(two different app) the music control works

That is what I've discovered; only single buttons will work. With power amp, long press erl skip the track. I haven't tried the skullcandy with single button with multi-function yet. However, I HIGHLY recommend the rf3 envi earbuds. Amazingly good sound with great bass and a patented technology that eliminates radiation from reaching your ears. Pretty cheap, too! Stol haven't tried the micro usb adapter yet

Okay, I'm posting this response as a service to all those infuriates out there struggling to find am explanation why we can't use headphones like everybody else. We find this out when its too later to do any refund and we convince ourselves that headphones are not a dealbreaker. Well, before I got the s4i's, I had pretty strong evidence that all headsets would not work impresa they only had one button (including those that boast several clicks do current things-although it won't on your phone). When the s4i came, the suspicion was confirmed. However, I was very disappointed by sound quality anyways, so not a big loss. I felt like I liked my headphones without controls for sound quality anyways. So, fellow mt4g users, jets what to do. The best headset with mic (you can still use the button to ffwd and pause) that I've found so far is the jbuds j4m. Very clear highs and mids, with decent bass. Very durable and look cool. Chord is a little long though. Better still is a bluetooth device made by cellular innovations found on amazon for about 30 bucks. Its a bluetooth with music controls that clips on your short or whatever and you can plug ANY of you favorite headphones into and listen to your tunes.
Can anybody suggest a good bluetooth headset for MT4G?
How is SE MW600? I would like to know if anyone could see the song title in the set and whether all the volume up, down, next etc are working fine.

you could always google search "SE MW600 review" and see what people say. And if you want end users try punching in "amazon SE MW600 review" and see what they are saying.
Personally i use an older Motorola ear bud that serves the purpose.

I Work At best buy and I'm using the Plantronics 975 its a great device very comfortable with great noise cancellation
plantronics 855 is a great headset. a2dp stereo bluetooth and a removable earpiece.
I've been using mine with a Jawbone Icon (Rogue) and I haven't had any issues. It's light, stylish and very functional.
I don't know if these are the "best" but I have the Motorola behind the neck ROKRs, and like them.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875982253
imho
Plantronics Voyager Pro +
Willing to bet you one dollar paypal that it's the best bluetooth you've ever owned.
Reasons:
Gel air filled custom ear fittings *these actually screw on too , very impressive
long mic boom (so people can actually hear you)
not one person to date has said I sound like sh*t (FINALLY)
a2dp support
status updates by pressing power button (announces battery time remaining)
press and hold outer button, it calls a toll free number that you can configure on a website to hookup with your e-mail, it reads rss feeds, news.
I also work for t-mobile and I've used bluetooth headsets ranging from 29.99 to 199.99, some of them I thought were amazing (motorola backbeats) but the problem always came down to whoever I was talking on the phone saying
"dude are you on bluetoooth?"
me: yes
"you sound like sh*t"
me: YARGGGGG HOW MUCH MONEY DO I HAVE TO SPEND TO SOUND DECENT
Many beg to differ, but I've owned the same pair of rocketfish headsets for almost two years now...very good to me with many sweaty head days at the gym.

I know this is a late reply but I thought I would throw in my 2 cents on the topic.
I was looking for something to listen to music while at work (desk job), working out, etc.
I ended up buying the Motorola S305 from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BH3I9U)
I have had these now since February and I am extremely happy with them.
PROS
Comfortable to wear
Decent sound quality
Easy to use controls
Phone headset is has good call quality. Others can hear me as if i'm on the handset
Micro USB charger, same as phone
low cost
CONS
Foam earpieces soak up sweat
no noise cancellation
Overall, for $35.00, you can't go wrong!
Plantronics seems to be the winner. I have both 925 and 975. Both are optimal and work fantastically.
Now my 925 is paired with my HD2, and the 975 with MT4G.
Are any of these recommended for both phone calls and for working out (sweat resistant)? I'm just mainly looking for headphones for working out minus the dang cord. Also if I get a phone call when I'm working out or shooting basketball, I wanna be able to answer without stopping.

bump... anyone have an opinion? Just waitin to buy one for some input from people who I actually trust lol
I've owned the Plantronics BackBeat 906 for almost a year and have had mixed results with both a G1 and a MT4G.
It can be so comfortable that I forget I'm wearing it. But sometimes the earbuds are loose, mostly when worn under bicycle helmet straps. Because it's loose, I can't hear music very well.
Audio sounds great. Convenient controls. Haven't figured out how to skip a song on Pandora or a podcast on Listen though. Clicking play sometimes starts a saved voicemail rather than Google Listen or Pandora. I'm not sure how to define the "default" media app in Android.
Paring is hit-or-miss. Often it pairs with just the phone audio and not the media audio. This happened more on the T-Mobile ROM than it does on Cyanogenmod 7, but still happens. The solution is a cumbersome opening of the BT settings, long-press the device, un-check and then re-check Media Audio.
Reception is good if the phone is within 20-30 feet (the advertised range.) Reception is horrible if the phone is in a pocket. I have a backpack with a very high pocket and that usually works, unless I turn my head to the left. It is VERY annoying.
Here's what I sent to Panasonic:
I own a G1 Android-powered phone and about 50% of the time when I turn on my BackBeat 906 it syncs with the phone audio, but not the media. Is there some trick to get it to sync with both?
Also, the reception is so poor that when the phone is in my pocket the audio drops out completely. I am tall, but much less than 30' tall.
Click to collapse
Their response:
Please try a reset...press and hold the power button on the headphones....and while you are doing that, please connect the charger to the Backbeats until you see a blue or red solid light and then release the button.....let it charge for an extra 30 seconds and then try to use them
Also, delete the headset from your cell phone's list of paired devices. Once deleted, make sure to power your phone completely off. Then power it back on. (This will reset the Bluetooth stack in the BT software on the phone). Then re-pair the headset with your phone.
If this does not fix your issue, my suggestion is to try pairing the headset to another cell phone, if possible. If the issue continues with the second phone, you will need to replace the headset. If your headset connects properly to the second phone, then the problem may be with the first phone rather than the headset.

...did not help. I still struggle with piss-poor reception when the phone is in a pocket.
well what frickin good is a bluetooth headphone set if you can't have the phone in your pocket lol
Yes Rosebud1, it is extremely frustrating! It's fine sitting on a desk, but for cycling, running, or walking I would not recommend this headset.
Thanks for the reply. What horrible customer service too!!
Yeah, it was a pretty useless response. I suspect it's just a horrid design flaw that they know they can't fix, so sending the customer on a wild goose-chase delays the inevitable.
U should check out the jabra clipper. I use it when I work out n its awesome

Under a motorcycle helmet
I am looking for a bluetooth headset that will fix and work well under my motorcycle helmet. Any recommendations?
I've been using the OEM headset that came with this phone and for one they are quite good for headphones that come with the product.
My question is does anyone know the controls for the headset? So far from using it I know that the main button pressed once is for mute/play/answer calls and if you double press it quickly it will skip to the next track (but you have to do it correctly or sometimes it won't do anything ).
Anyone else know the other control settings?
that's pretty much it AFAIK
if there are other features, then i've not used it that far
Wow, these are surprisingly very good headphones, and the controls actually work.
Thanks man, totally forgot we even got headphones with our phones.
Btw, if you hold down the top side of the "clicker thing", it raises volume slowly, if you hold the bottom end it lowers it. not the best control, but its in addition to what you think we had.

yea, my Samsung Vibrant came with reaaaalllyyy bad headphones (iphone type, basically, maybe even worse) so I didn't even look to check if there were headphones with the GS2
this is great news for me, i've been trying to replace my last ear buds and my latest purchase were these over ear Sony MDR V6s. they are AWESOME headphones but my first pair of quality over ears, and they might be a bit over doing it for what I need 'phones for, so I was gonna return them and get some earbuds again.

Anything else (playback a song with 3 clicks?)? Also, does anyone find the controls to be spastic at times (sometimes they work correctly, other times it lags a bit)?

Thanks for the info on double click and volume control (I'll have to try that). I've seen people complain about the headphones, but I was quite happy with them. The noise canceling is quite powerful as I can't hear much of anything else when I've got them on. I'm not used to $200+ headphones, so perhaps my standards are low, but I've been very happy with them.

Lol at the rabbit.

They are on ebay everywhere, and rather cheap.
Got my phone on valentine's day, did even come with a headset... USB cable and that was that. Picked up a cheap'o at Wallymart... works fine.
First time, long time...Lurking for a while, not posted until now...
Anyway, my phone came with nothing but the wall charger and cable - maybe some booklets. I got my junk at T-Mobile and I asked about headphones. The chick there said it didn't come with any...But because she had a nice rack I just went with it and here I am. Looking at ROMS, but wandered into this section and thought I would throw in my 2 bits.
I have been using the headphones that came with my Sony MP3 player and they sound ok. I bet some quality ear buds would do my ears justice but I am too cheap and my ears are too deaf. Maybe in the future, we'll see.
these headphones sound great but mine already broke. there is chord stress around the connector and now i only get sound out of one earpiece and not both. great sound but not very durable.

Hello,
I just got the Gs2 last week and totally in love with this phone. Kicked my last iphone4's ass so hard. But i personally hate the in-ear headset that comes with the gs2. So i'm looking for a headset which has :
- Mic for calling and button to accept and end calls.
- Basic media functions : volume control, next, prev, play, stop.
- Not bulky as i need no display (as much as i hate evil Apple, i have to admit that the iphone's headset is perfect but its volume control doesn't work for gs2).
- Most importantly : NOT IN-EAR.
Any suggestion would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Regards
Why not in ear? Better noise reduction, better noise isolation and they actually stay in your ears.
Are you looking for iPod style headphones or over ear headphones, or either? Also, what budget?

I've actually never encountered earbuds that you can use media buttons for the S2 . I'm pretty sure if S2 had that capabilities , they would've included it stock with the in-earbuds in the box . So I guess you're stuck with a one-button headset . The one-button headsets CAN play/pause and also answer/drop calls . And if you double click it , it would go to the next song , but there are no dedicated buttons for FWD , REW , PLAY/PAUSE , etc.
If you need any recommendations for earbuds/headphones , I'd gladly help .
Yes i need the ipod style headset, the good old normal style ear buds. I personally cannot stand in-ears so they are off the table. Oh and i also preferred it wired.
The headset for iphone that i'm using for my gs2 now, actually can accept and end calls, can play and pause, can foward tracks (double-click), but cannot go to previous track (triple-click but only for iphone) and volume control doesn't work.
I would prefer a headset just like that. It's compact and functional. I don't need over the top musis quality so i would say my budget is 30€.
If i understand it correctly, are you saying that with the gs2 there is no way to control the volume from the headset? That would really suck. This phone would be perfect otherwise
get the dr dre one. brilliant sound and superb bass
Klipsch Image S4A. Made for android devices and works perfect for music control
Well if you know someone with a HTC...
The kind of headphones you're asking for are bundled with some older HTC Android devices, like the Wildfire, I assume the Desire and several others, very good quality 'normal' earphones, not in-ear with a dedicated mic and button... I alternate between the HTC ones I got with my Wildfire, using them indoors, but when I go outside into say, a busy street the in-ear noise removal is golden... They work perfectly with my SGS2. Couldn't find the original HTC earphones that come with it but these http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/htc-rc-e160-p23297.htm are similar so you should be able to buy the original ones for a similar or lower price...
Hey guys, I'm looking for some bluetooth headphones and hope some of you have some experience and can help me.
Basically I'm looking for something like this: (just so you get a rough idea) http://www.desinformado.com/wp-cont...lantronics-backbeat-go-wireless-earphones.jpg
They should:
- be light
- Have a runtime of >=5 hours
- be easy to use while doing sports
- Not cost more than 60€
- have a play/pause button, maybe a next/previous song button as well
If you have any experience and can help me, I'd be grateful

SE MW-600?
I have been looking/googling for these last week.
SE MW-600 has many purpose. can be used for sports(in ear buds but still might fall). same with Samsung HS3000(cheapest of them all). There is also the Jabra clipper and jabra Sport.
with your budget of 60 euros, you can get the sample that you gave(Plantronics/there was one online with a hook). or you can find the one from motorolla (S10HD)but the reviews were not good regarding audio quality.
Just to give you a bigger choice: You don't need pause, skip etc. buttons.
One button is enough, then you can remap them for example like this: one click: play; two clicks; pause; long click; skip one click, long press; skip backward.
And as far as I know, Android doesn't support more than one button, so this is anyway nonsensical.
Hello,
I have 2 BT headphones, Sony Ericsson MW600 and Jaybird Freedom, I just the first at work and the latter in the gym, specially to run.
Feature wise, MW600 has that beautiful oled display which not only shows the phone number for incoming calls but also the artist/song name while listening to music. It also has 5 buttons for play/pause, next, previous, power, answer/hangup. The volume is controled in a "touch strip" so you slide your finger to one side to increase the volume and to the other to decrease it. Honestly I'd like better if there where regular volume buttons, instead of this "touch strip", but it isn't really a problem for me.
This headset has the advantage of having a 3.5mm connector for the earphone so you can easily replace it in case yours break or use the one you like better.
As for the Jaybird Freedom has no display, but has 4 buttons for play/pause, volume up/next, volume down/previous and power. The main advantage of this headset IMHO is his design, meaning that the whole unit (battery, earpieces, bluetooth receiver etc) are a single unit so you won't have any gadget dangling as you run or workout, it just stays in place, sturdy in my ear. The downside of this approach are the slightly bulk earpieces, but this don't bother me at all.
Sorry if the text got a little long, but I wanted to pass along my experience with these 2.
Edit: I use both with my Galaxy S II, but I also used it with the Motorola Atrix I had.
Best regards,
Fernando Toledo

Hey guys, I'm looking for some bluetooth headphones and hope some of you have some experience and can help me.
Basically I'm looking for something like this: (just so you get a rough idea) http://www.desinformado.com/wp-cont...lantronics-backbeat-go-wireless-earphones.jpg
They should:
- be light
- Have a runtime of >=5 hours
- be easy to use while doing sports
- Not cost more than 60€
- have a play/pause button, maybe a next/previous song button as well
If you have any experience and can help me, I'd be grateful

I have been using the Backbeat 903 from Plantronics for quite a while and I am very satisfied with it. It's not as tiny and the Backbeat Go but it is lightweight and got all buttons functionality. A search on ebay will land you prices less than $50.
Hope this helps
I'm using the Samsung Hs 3000 BT earphones. They cost about 30 Euro, are easy to use and perfect for sports! They can be fixed to clothes and even survived my washing mashine.
I had Plantronics Backbeat 903+ , I used them for running and biking but they aren't sweatproof and after some trainings I sent them back to the reseller because they started to work bad. I suggest H2O Audio products if you want something sweatproof and waterproof.
I found my Beats Bluetooth Headset fully functional on my Wanamlite ROM.
Inclues: Next and Previous Track, Play /Pause, Answer / Drop Calls and Volume Controls.
Makes my music life... wireless! XD
I've taken a look at all of them. H2o audio seems great, but I don't understand why they don't offer bluetooth headsets. They are making waterproof gear, but do not offer bluetooth for that???
Anyway, the jaybird freedom seems awesome, I'm going to get those, thanks man

Lg hbs 700
Been using the LG HBS 700 for the past year. Absolutely awesome!
Has play, pause, next, back and volume controls as well as a call buton which can allso be used for initiating a voice call via voice command.
Very light, doesn't look dorky and sweat resistant I would say,
Bought directly from LG on eBay for around £40 - seller not there anymore though.

Good luck
Try the Jabra Sport headset. I'm sure you can get it in your price range if you shop around (amazon, ebay, etc)

Loving my new SE-MW600
I am using Jabra Street 2 and they are perfect for me.
I use the HM3700 by Samsung. Nice earphone. Excellent sound quality with two caveats:
The bloody app doesn't work for me but it does for others and the connector on the earphone is microUSB so when your battery FINALLY depletes (lasts for a tidy minute).... you're stuck without headphones as you can't use them without the bluetooth connector (which doubles as a monoheadset too).
It's ergonomic and comfortable though.
