Hardware acceleration for videos - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

i used:
stock video player
mx video player
dice video player
all of them show some very ****ty videos.
Now, the question, there is hw acceleration for videos on the galaxy nexus? -_-
OR
what's the video player that run smooth every (or most) kind of videos?
EDIT: try some of these: http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/hd/

I use dice and it's awesome quality. You sure the problem is not with your videos?

Try VPlayer !

dice player works fine for me. i think its just your video

Dice Player does not use hardware acceleration for xvid files since it was removed in android 4.0.2. That's what make it suck. But it's the best for everything else.

Best Video player?

I have VPlayer Advanced and when I play an .avi video that is 624x352 it lags pretty bad...
I can't imagine watching a 720p or a 1080p video on this thing...
Anyone know a video player that is worth having? ???
(It must be able to play all formats like .mkv .mp4 and so on...)
Try moboplayer. I'm using it and happy so far.

One of the comments says it can't play .mkv or .mov If not its not what I'm looking for.

modo player can play a 720p .mkv on my DHD mostly good. Not perfect but close!
The phone by default doesn't support .mkv if this video player doesn't support more formats than the phones default player then I'm not interested.
Greetings, I use and recommend "Best Video Player PRO (Summer Player)" is very good and lso read almost all video formats, only the interface is not very appealing but the rest works perfect.
Mobo player plays 480p mkvs perfectly without lag at all. Haven't tried 720p though

I Use RockPlayer. Plays everything pretty well, assuming you select the correct option for the file (hardware or software decoding).
I think you have to pay for it, but honestly I've had it that long I cant remember doing it.
Hardware wise, the DHD doesnt support much in the way of videos (or its awkward). Obviously, 720p 3gp, MP4, and mine is picky about WMV (it will play and then decide it can't play this file about halfway lol). it apparently supports AVI and XVID but I never come across any AVI encoded with MP4 ASP and MP3, hence RockPlayer.
MoboPlayer seems to struggle a little with MKV files I've noticed ... kind of lags. If the video has subtitles there's epic desyncing as well.
There's DicePlayer I guess, which could very well be the best video player on the market right now, but it doesn't support embedded MKV subtitles as far as I know so I haven't gone about buying it yet. Then again, I'm also a bit hesitant to buy it even with the subtitles working because I expect VLC to release their player in the coming month ...
there is nothing beter rockplayer. plays anything/

Yeah Rockplayer here to.
Been using it for a while now and it hasnt not played a file yet.
Not big on HD on the DHD so i dont really know about that.
Rockplayer for your videos and Poweramp for the music and your set.
Wish VLC would make a player for android. Worked great on my iPhone, but the iphone sucks.
old VIDEO PLAYER (not advanced) works best for me , better than rockplayer, at least on my phone

Suggest: Video Player App

Can someone suggest me a nice video player app. I'm using rock player atm but it gives a lot of issues playing 1080p mp4 and 480p mkv files. The audio and video are completely out of sync. Any solutions for this??
DicePlayer
Try Playerpro. One of the best, both when it comes to music and video. I used to have two separate players for music and video, but not anymore
Moboplayer

Thats not true.
MX Player, Diceplayer, VPlayer (just to name a few) do HW decoding as well.
IMO these 3rd Party Players are pretty similar, atm Im going with MX
mVideopPlayer or Mobo

media player

which is the best free media player for the galaxy nexus ?
that plays avi mpeg divx etc?
I use mx video player and it's working great even with 1080p from my camera.

I'll double that! Dual core CPU support, HW/Software/QuickSoftware decoding modes, gestures and most importantly - it's free!
so mx player it is then ?
If you'll find something better and free - let me know, please
I use moboplayer. (free and no ads)
mx player is better for now as it uses the whole screen. Hopefully moboplayer will update it to use the full screen as well.
I've had problems with mx player. some mkv's were stuttering a lot (of course hw decoding was turned on), others worked.
now I'm using DICE player. it's free but has ads. so far I didn't come across any mkv that didn't play smoothly.
+1 for moboplayer. Havent had any problems with it.
I have MX, Mobo, and Dice. MX is my go to app for video as it seems to work the best for me. If I run across a file that won't play I try one of the other two.

Do the MKVs stutter ont he stock video player?
My experience is that all MKVs stutter, even if the video is easily decodable.
I think the demuxers in Android 4 are somewhat broken/buggy.
I've used dice, mx, mobo, and dice is the only one that plays audio with mkv files. Unfortunately its riddled with ads and the paid version is unavailable for purchase. Anyone run into this issue?

Best Apps & Video Player for galaxy nexus: Supporting MKV or wmv

Hi ,
Yesterday , just got Galaxy Nexus by selling my Iphone 4s and thx for replying my previous question about gpu ,
Now , I wanna look at how galaxy nexus plays videos , I googled hd videos and download Nasa videos from Nasa , its 720p wmv , and my device didnt support this format and I downloaded 3rd party application which is called Mx video player and it opened the video but it didnt play , so I'm kinda disappointed ,
I also tried Vevo and imdb and the quailty of videos werent good , So any suggestions or recommendations for watching video on galaxy nexus ?
what application am i supposed to install ?
The best
Dice player and MX video player. my all time favourite while on AOSP roms.
i usually converted any video first though but it played pretty much everything without converting. i converted just to have a 1280 x 720 resolution.
I use MX Player. Great app. Can't fault it.

Thank you , it played the video
I too use MX Player on my GN and haven't had a problem playing any format of video, wmv included.
I prefer the BS Player with the Codec Pack, seems a little bit smoother than Dice Player for me.
MX probably the best for me now. No problem with it so far.

MX Video Player is definitely my favorite as well. I do find that switching from HW decoding to SW Fast decoding works better a lot of the time for me.
If MX Video Player doesn't play my MKV files, then I try Rock Player. And if that doesn't work, then I just have to convert the file.
Dice Player to play mkv for me (haven't tried wmv), its hardware decoding runs smoothly with not too much heat coming from the phone.
MX Player's hardware decoding seems to be not working properly where it lags more than software decoding. But I have a lot of rmvb's and MX Player runs great with those.

Therollingstone, there are two parts to your question that need attention.
Firstly you say that MX Player didn't play, the reason is that you didn't download the additional files needed to be installed to play the files - You need the ARM v7 Player Codec in addition to MX Video Player app - http://goo.gl/suhcr
Now VEVO and IMDB's disappointing video quality is not the fault of the stock player - It's VEVO and IMDB's fault. They are laying video files at a much smaller resolution (most often to cater to their iPhone customers who have much smaller screens and resolutions 960x640). Galaxy Nexus has a 720P HD Display so it scales up any video you're trying to play at a resolution of 1280x720. This is the reason you might be seeing a slight drop in video quality from these application or any other videos on the web that are streaming videos at a much lower resolution.
Hope this helps.

[Q] best 720p MKV player for tegra3?

Anyone found apps that play 720p mkv smoothly? (Type of stuff you get off the internet..)

I use Mx player.
You can even choose between HW acceleration or SW acceleration.

MX Player here. Uses HW acceleration, super smooth. Tried Dice Player and VPlayer, had lots of bugs on audio and video was not very smooth.

I tried MxPlayer and DicePlayer and found that DicePlayer gives me better image quality and plays everything I feed it without any problems.
My tip is to try out both Mx and DicePlayer.
bsplayer
I tried MX Player it failed to play MOV format (1080p) it was a trailer later I tried Mobo Player it works like a charm.
I've noticed the same with those players, that they support different formats, so there is no single best player really.
Like someone mentioned, MOV plays nicely with one or two players, while MKV plays nicely with few others.
I simply use 2 players which support all file formats I use.
Coming from Galaxy Nexus, I find these two very good: DicePlayer and MX Player, also heard BS Player to be very good too.

I would rather use the stock player too, but unfortunately it plays my mkv files without sound.
Which would be the better option? Converting the file to fit the stock player, or use players like MX Player to play those files?
Thanks
MX Player. Can switch between SW and HW decoding on the fly, and you can choose for the audio to be SW or HW too, independant of video decoding.
Yeah been using MX for a while, just concern that whether there are any compromises in sound quality when playing mkv with SW acceleration instead of HW

I've never needed to go SW sound before so I can't really say.
I've got a few 720p mkv videos and it doesn't play with sound if it's in HW mode.
The only way for me to play it with sound now is to set it to SW (fast mode or normal one).
So right now I'm just wondering if it's better to re-encode the audio so that the stock player can play it in HW, or just use MX Player and play it in SW.
Will do some experiments after I get back from work

MX can do separate encode modes for video and audio. You can run video on HW and audio on SW if you want.
Dice player plays it all but there is only one little problem with it. While playing videos there are 3 white dots (menu) remain on screen......i hope its updated soon.
