Hey Guys,
so everyone has been experiencing some of the signal drops/loss on 4.0.4 but i couldnt find anyone with the same problem as me.
this is my setup: AOKP b30 / leankernel 3.0.0 + leantweaks
i did experience the signal loss with the small "x" but i used this to fix that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24545086&postcount=73
and i always keep my min freq to 700
but the main problem is, my phone wont get any blue bars. i have my gmail synced and im logged in. my phone can also get full signal and it will only stay on grey.
one way i can get the blue bars though is if i connect to wifi, but that really isnt the best option for me.
anyone know what i can do to get consistent blue bars?
You should apply a different baseband.

grey full bars
i dont have a technical response to this question other than i only notice this during times of transition between either booting up the phone or switching to wifi on or off equally.
The phone usually checks to sync when it has been on standby and you then hit the power button. If you theoretically switch between wifi and 3g/4g during this time it would force a transition which could yield a situation as you describe.
This happens to me too sometimes. What network do you have?

You have to find out the true reason why your connection is being interrupted. The bars going grey instead of blue is just reflecting the fact that your connection isn't persistent and you don't have a full sync with Google.
Blue bars = connection to Google servers
Grey bars = no Google servers

When you open the browser does it say that there is no network coverage and you have to turn off the airplane mode?
I was having the same issue with 4.0.1, I was getting disconnect from the mobile network almost every 2-3 hours and the only way to get online again was to do a reset. But now with 4.0.2 everything seems to work fine.
My carrier (Simyo in Spain) is a "virtual operator" (MVNO), so I'm thinking that the issue was somehow related with the “data was disconnected due to roaming” bug in 4.0.1.
Been having same issues on Wifi and 3g, causes huge issues with push gmail
Edit: I removed dns changer from my phone, and seems to be helping

Thanks Menek, I am still on 4.0.1. Hopefully soon I will get an OTA update.
Hello,
This thread kind of died down but it is very important. Here is the issue logged by other users with Google. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=22503
Has anybody managed to find a fix?
I called Samsung yesterday and they advised me to return the phone. I don't feel like being without a phone for 2 weeks. Besides it is sort of proven that it is a Rom issue (am I correct?). What do you say guys, shall i send it to Samsung or wait for an update from Google? The problem doesn't happen very often, every once in a while. I suppose this is why the battery runs out pretty quickly as it tries to connect to a network too often. And when it doesn't establish connection it goes to Airplane mode.
Any more comments on this issue?
Well to start I must say that where I live, I only got Edge service, this is not a problem cuz I got internet from my wifi, and once I get away from home (about 3 blocks) theres hsdpa, the point is that before upgrade to 4.0.4, being 4.0.2 the phone changed instantly from Edge to hsdpa, and now in 4.0.4 the Signal goes from Edge (blue) to no symbol all Grey Signal bars and no matter if I reboot the phone, will stay that way for about 8-10 mins, any idea what could it be and how to fix it (whitout losing any data or app) thanks in advance...
P.S: Im rooted with IMM76D, upgraded via OTA from 4.0.2

Think I found out that it was the power saving issue every1 else is having, downloaded setcpu and testing
I'm looking at some other threads on similar problems, but I'm wondering why my GNexus doesn't go to 2G automatically.
I must manually change it to 2G/Edge every time. All the other folks around me seem to continue without issue and are able to make calls although their signal isn't too hot. GetRIL says baseband and RIL match. I'm using XXLA2 on AT&T in NYC.
Tried searching around for a solution, but I'm not finding anything.
Any help would be appreciated and I hope this hasn't been asked a million times before as I was unable to find a solution. Thanks.
As in it doesn't change from 3g/4g to 2g automatically when there is no 3g/4g signal available?

Right, it just continues to show No Connection or is it Signal...? Anyway, I can't make calls, go online, anything until I switch to 2G. Is that normal? Lol.
Weird... mine switches to E when I'm in a bathroom depositing =]

For some reason, my T-Mobile GS3 has grey signal bars whether on Wi-Fi or 3g or HSPA+. I can access the internet at high speeds and sync with my Gmail but the icons never turn white for some reason. I've wiped my phone, installed a custom rom and fixed permissions but nothing seems to do anything. Anyone have a solution? Thanks!
I do believe that is how its supposed to be. But I could be wrong. That's how mine was before I put a theme over mine

I have the ATT version and yours looks exactly like mine, it's the way it was when it came out of the box for me so I'm thinking it's supposed to be that way.
Ah okay. Thanks guys!
I believe that's the way it is as they always have been grey for me when I have a signal. If the signal is a bit weak, the taller bar(s) turn dark grey.
You may need to wait for something like CM9 for a completely different framework.
That's the way it is.
Dark gray bad/no signal
Light gray good signal.

Is that a custom Rom?

Hello,
I am running AOKP JB v1 on ATT Gnex. I havent installed any other kernels or radios. My issue is that, while i have full coverage in an area i know i have data, while my signal bars show full with "H" above them, i cannot get data. Cannot send picture messages or go to google market or use browser. I think i need to flash a different baseband or radio but i have no idea which one i should be using or what is compatible. Can somebody please point me in the right direction. It is rather annoying to loose data constantly.
Well I really need help now. I flashed a radio but obviously it wasnt meant for JB. I have signal enough to text and make phone calls but no data at all now. It shows all grey bars with the H above it. Can anybody link to a working JB radio/baseband for GSM please?
I believe i should be use 9250XXLF1 but i cannot find a download for it
Edit: Found it here:

Try going back to stock completely. I do think its rather a network issue. Do you have the correct data plan for it?

I have been using the UGKL1 radio on ATT in Northern California - has worked well for me. Obviously, radios are very dependent on location but this radio was a big improvement for me.
They changed something with the network, allot of users reporting issues of data drops because its switching from umts to hspa and hspap constantly.

I see it constantly changing between the listed signals although the status bars show full w/ "H" above them. Tried multiple different roms. I switched from lumia 900 to this phone so my plan is good up to LTE. Shouldnt have an issue w/ that. Would flashing a different radio help?
