[Q] Is the DHD Dev threads dying

I've been noticing a lot of ROM's not updating. And recently the ICS port from the RCMix Sensation has been stopped and closed. Is their still hope, or is it time to upgrade to a newer phone.

Not sure what you consider alot, but I.just glanced in the Dev section and quite a few have had updates of within the past two weeks(I counted 10 +). That seems pretty active to me
Plus just because a rom hasn't been updated recently doesn't mean its not being worked on

Not updating doesnt mean that they (devs) are not working anymore, It means that their ROM doesnt have any bugs or problems and is stable and doesnt require any changes.
Thats what most of the ROM devs will say.

It only dies if people allow it. It has become far to common that people wait for others do it instead of learning to do it themselfs. If you want something cool and new dig in and make something new. That is the point of a development forum to help others learn and share tips. Developers are not special. They just have the drive to make their device theirs.

I had another read of the op, like the ics sense is coming back, I've been working on it and other things, in a way dhd is dying and in a way it isnt if that makes sense, alot of new devices gets released n when that happens everyone usually wants something new and cool, devs want to develop on a newer phone see what it can handle performance wise etc
If I'm still here when sense 4.0 drops then yeah I'll most likely be bringing it to DHD first (as thats the phone I have)

patience friends as you may see surprises in the dhd threads and i know there is some poor people who cant afford a new phone as a matter of fact there is a lot of devs working hardly not to mention that there is a whole new devices who attrack people more from our beloved dhd we have a great team working like the CM team some dev did abondan us maybe but there is others coming and in a large choice of phones u wont expect regular updates this is not iphone this is android everyday new phones are released not to mention how hard a dev work could be and evantually the updates includes updates off apps so it sounds unecessary but we here are brothers and we can work together and most important is to wait you will never know whats comming regards my friends

Ahh its not dieing..the desire section which i used to have is still banging away

CM9 ICS on I8150 Noobie Report

Hello all,
I'm not a developer, but i'm just curious with CM9 on my first android device (GT-i8150), so I try to build CM9 source + arco's ancora ics.
I didn't changed anything except Line 45 on device/samsung/ancora/device.mk :
Code:
$(LOCAL_PATH)/init.qcom.usb.rc:root/init.qcom.usb.rc \
because I dunno where the init.qcom.usb.rc is located.
Stuff that currently work:
Phone (Call,SMS)
Mobile Network (3G, HSDPA)
Wifi
Bluetooth file transfer (only test transfer from GT-I8150 to my netbook)
Audio (Music)
Screecapture
Power (Power Off, Reboot)
Stuff that currently not work:
Camera
USB Mass Storage (idk how to enable it, no notification on statusbar)
Stuff that currently not tested:
Anything except above

in the old os to enable usb mass storage is enable at usb debugging, check it then connect ur usb..

Headphone audio also doesn't work, charging the phone is problematic, GPU is causing certain root applications todos crash, as well as a few other problems.
If you can't really tell what works or not don't do it. CM9 is far from ready unfortunately. You're giving everyone the idea that it's all fine and dandy

Of course no one is expecting a stable release from other than arco because the guy just know his thing.
Still, the guys want to try and learn and that's good. If I knew a bit more (and I'm trying, slowly) and was not so dependent on my phone being FULLY FUNCTIONAL for my work I'd probably give it a shot too.

Have patience Dude arco68 is working on it...he has gone thru a bricked SGW thru out he dev.
It will be released I know he can do it....ROM dev. requires patience n focus...one wrong move n that's it...

no need for that kinda stuff, we are all new to this phone, but not new to this XDA community, or other communities...
like Android Forums, and Modaco, etc
I think everyone needs to chill.....but not to run off like that....and not say things we will regret later.....
not called for, we all try to help, in whatever way.
So many projects are destroyed by too much EGO....
so we need to be patient, but not get into strop when criticised, if it is constructive.
Constructive Criticism is good, and it builds Character
Life is not perfect!!!!

I know all of u guys being on this community for too long period of time..and u know much better than me..but this is not how long u have been on thing like this.this is about man's right and people's feeling bro.. When it's there, it's there. As far as I know it is not considered as benefit asking for the estimated time of arrival(no ETA) (no offense).
It has reported, that it is "around the corner", so please be patient.

SlimICS/SlimJB for Gio?

All,
I've recently discovered these 2 'Slim' ROMs, and was very excited to have done so...
My excitement soon turned to sorrow, however, upon learning that these slimmed down ROMs haven't been ported to Gio.
Now, KUDOS to the developer(s) that created them but wouldn't it have been a good idea to make it so that they can run on lower, less-powerful phones like the Gio? Currently, they only run on much more powerful phones, that have tons of RAM and power. These phones can handle full blown ROMs just fine, the Gio....not so much.
Just a thought.
Man! I wish I could get one of these for my Gio! I'm contemplating trying to install it on my Gio. It's not my everyday phone anyway. I only use it for data usage because I have an INSANE data plan on that phone. I have another phone that I use for calls, etc.

if its currently only for high end devices there's no way coming to gio.

I've ported the Slim series, once. But it was buggy for me and i decided to discontinue it (Didn't want to fix the bugs...)

I brought it to Gio.. But it only lasted for 1 hour, then i discarded it

LOL I didn't know you meant slimmed down ics and jb... LOL u could've just said so.

Try a few, mate. Different people have different preferences, and you're, no doubt, going to get varied/several suggestions to your question and are going to be as confused as you were BEFORE you posed that question.

I Recommend Orginal XPERIA S Rom By Zohaib0001
And if it Bootloader is open I Recommend DooMKernel Bicause Thats verrry nice

Like said above, GB roms will give best reliability and good for games.
Personally I have tried quite a few GB roms and I recommend xgamer.
Despite the name i found it quite battery friendly.
I last used it on v1.8 and couldnt fault it.
GB doesnt look too pretty but it gets the job done!

There's a reason for forum rules, in this case, to stop petty arguments regarding roms/devs. Everybody on XDA was a newb at one point and most follow the rules. There are no 'bad' roms or 'best' roms, anyone can read a rom thread and find out from the feedback on that thread which rom they like.

New Rom

there is another AOSP rom in the GT n7105 section that also works on tolteatt model. im not a dev but i flashed it and it works well. its called CM remix rom. I never knew about it until a few days ago so if anyone is looking for a better rom than any other here go check it out. I will ask the dev to post a link here too.

Great way to compliment the developers that give you custom OS for free. They spend hours getting these together, have some respect or go build your own Roms.

And I have used all roms on here and gave my thanks to devs. And have donated to almost all of them. So instead of looking for phrase I said and quoting it, go and see if u like the rom. Coz that's what I was trying to do. Just to let people know that there is also another rom out there. I didn't mean any offense to anyone. It's bc people like u who read between the lines things like this even come up

Maybe change the title and request the mods to move this over to the General Thread. Since this is more informational.
And perhaps edit the OP post to clarify your intentions. Since it comes down to personal preference it's hard to declare a ROM the best.
I can see how Infamous would get bent. Quality is #1 out of that group. As someone who has put in a metric a** ton of hours on a MK6 Touchwiz ROM. I can see how it could be taken wrong.

I flashed this today and Damn it is good. Huge amount of customization and so far everything running smooth. Used CM based Agni and working very well

Just to clarify I wasn't upset or anything I just felt that someone needed to give that PSA. And as a game developer I know you can't please everyone and they all have preferences but claiming that something is better than someone else's free work is a bit disrespectful on XDA imo. Day to day talk is different as that's your preference. For example I think it was disrespectful for someone on here to basically mirror a ROM change a few thing and claim as their own but I would never say anymore than that on here. @gregsarg knows what I'm talking about
