I'm trying to find a decent desk/night/alarm clock app to use with my Nexus. I'd like to just totally get rid of my alarm clock radio and just use my phone. There's plenty of them out there, but the problem I'm having is finding one that has a decent screen saver function. I want to be able to see the clock through the night, but have it dim the screen and rotate the clock face around so it doesn't burn in on the screen.
Wakevoice is "almost" what I am looking for. The clock dims and rotates around the screen, but the navigation buttons don't turn off or dim at all.
Any suggestions? Or should I not worry about screen burn in with this phone?
What's wrong with the stock clock app? It does everything on your wish list.

I agree, I ditched my alarm clock a couple months ago and use the stock deskclock apk for my alarm/nightclock. It does everything needed and mentioned above.

Try doubletwist alarm. i m happy with it so far

The Doubletwist Alarm looks amazing, only thing, I might not be looking in the right settings but, I can't find an option to keep the screen awake in the app. That would make this app near perfect...

You are right, no keep awake option. But I use tasker for it.
How about Gentle Alarm?

Ugh, I didn't realize the stock clock moved around. I feel silly for even making the post, but that's why I come here. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I've switched to CM7 recently, and really miss the utility of the Sense clock app.
Would really like something that has clock/alarm/timer/stopwatch in one app.
I've searched for a while and can't find anything.
Does anyone have a suggestion?
Well, i can't say i know something that covers all your req's, but I use FlipClock Blue Magic and it is a pretty nice clock. Resembles the sense clock and allows skins and other customizations. It can show your next alarm on the clock (although not set a new alarm). It does allow you to set an application to start when you touch the hours part of the clock. It can also display system information and weather.
No timer/stopwatch though, but if you find a timer/stopwatch app, you can set it to launch that app by touching the hours on the clock.
... Just set the cm clock as the application to launch for the hours and it brings you to a screen where you can set a new alarm, show picture slideshow, access your music, and get back to your home screen. Might be worth a shot
This was written by an XDA dev. Absolutely awesome.

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately I'm not looking for a widget. I'm fine with Beautiful Widgets/Simi.
<br>
I have it now set up to bring up stock clock when the hour/minutes are touched. I wanted instead to have it launch something else that would include both a clock and a timer/stopwatch.
But I guess if it doesn't exist, then it doesn't exist.
Oh, lol! Sorry I totally misunderstood your question lol. I will keep an eye out now that I re-read lol

Hehe, no worries. Just knowing that someone out there is trying to help makes me all warm and fuzzy.
Thanks for looking out!
Not sure if this is possible but I would pay to see an app/mod that allows only the status bar to be displayed when the screen is off. I had Pandora hang on me this morning with a black screen and just the status bar visible and it showed all the info I need to know at a quick glance. Hope this is the right section, debated on weather this should be in the General section but mods move if you wish.
So you wanna shut off 95% of the screen only? Highly unlikely.

With the Super AMOLED Plus display, black color = pixel off (screen off for that part) so If there is way to wake the screen and show a black screen with just a notification, what the OP wants IS possible... I think some apps have the ability to wake the screen, i think the issue is the lock screen would show, no?

There is something for the Nexus S becasue it doesn't have the LED light. I think it's called "no led" or something similar on the Market. It will display notifications on the screen while the phone is sleeping.

I had that app for my NS4G and thats not what I want nor did it work very well.
But NoLED is where I got the idea from. If they can display that info why can't someone write an app that displays just the notification bar?
Thank you japper88 for clarifying the screen tech to the 2nd poster.
A black background for all but the notification would be fine but a) the lockscreens gonna show unless you find a way to disable it completely which would then go straight to your homescreen and b) i wouldnt think you could keep 95% of the screen off which is what your asking to do isnt it? If so i dont care what screen you have i highly doubt thats possible.
Maybe modding the lockscreen with a black wallpaper and removing the clock would work.

Again, when the screen displays black #000000 the pixels are off. That is the beauty of the SAMOLED+ screen. It is also like that with the SAMOLED used in the NS4G. It is possible to do what I'm asking. Just need some direction from another section on this board witch is what I'm doing. I will post here when I get it working.

I'm trying to auto-start the desk clock in screensaver mode using tasker.
Basically, I want to replicate starting the (stock) clock app, then long-pressing on it, so that the clock turns blue (I don't want it to dim, which would be a short-press).
I'm attempting to do this using an Action Intent, but so far I have failed miserably.
Any help would be appreciated.
I can create a separate version of the clock that could do that. Any other requests?
Edit: I mean I can build it right into the clock app itself
That would be great. Thank you.
I've managed to create a Component Intent that starts the screensaver, but the actual clock isn't displayed, even if the clock app is already open.

I'm going to create a thread later in the themes and app section with the modified clock app. Would be fun to get some input and modify the app according to user suggestions. Just as a fun project.
Btw I will build al those modifications right into the app itself. (Maybe add some intent "listeners" later)

Actually, here's another request!
Would you be able to include the ability for the screensaver-clock to auto-display after the phone has been face-up for a certain period of time (e.g. 30 seconds), and for it to revert back to the home screen when the orientation changes (i.e. it is picked up).

Lol.. can you describe this in more specific words. What exactly is the scenario here? You have the phone laying flat on your desk and want to launch the desktop clock after 30 secs and if you pick it up it should quit the clock and go to the home screen? Is that it?

Sounds interesting. So you think this is generally useful? Do you have your phone plugged to a power source when you have it on your desk? I'm wondering how the battery drain is when you do this without external power and just a all black screen with only the digits of the clock.
Well I've come from using a Dell Streak, and compared to that, the GN battery seems to last forever!
If the battery is low, I can always turn the screen off, but my phone auto-syncs to my laptop using samba, and I can't access my phone from my computer if the screen lock is on.
My thinking is that having the screensaver active will drain less battery than displaying the homescreen constantly.

Edit: I can't access my phone from my laptop if the screen is off, the screen-lock doesn't seem to make any difference.

Nice nice... for amoled screens the drain would be even less because the black pixels consumes nearly no power. I'll give it a try. I agree it would be a nice thing to have a clock continuously displayed when the phone is laying around doing nothing.
Good luck!
Guys - I know this is an old thread, but the original suggestion is exactly what I'm trying to achieve.
Was anything done on this?
Thanks.

I don't think so
Hi,
To check the time, I don't like having to switch on the screen with the power button, setting off the weather animation on Sense lockscreen. It's a bit awkward and uses battery unnecessarily.
So, my request to any dev is this;
Is it possible to keep the portion of the screen where the small clock is (in the top right) on all the time? Even when the rest of the screen is off, the clock stays visible ALL the time.
Not sure if it would create problems with battery usage, screen burn?
Any thoughts?
Change it to clock. Very simple.

From what i understand, you want the screen to be on all the times but partially (just the top rlght). I think that's technically impossible.

+1, you hit the nail on the head. I use this on my Sgs2, and it works well.
Regards
I'm quite sure that this will use more battery than turning the screen on once in a while for a few seconds
Wrong section and its more of a [Q] than a [REQ]
NoLed is a really good app, but it doesn't do what i'm requesting. When NoLed is active, if you look at the screen at the correct angle, you can see that the whole screen is on. Thank you tho
I'm trying to establish if it's possible to make only the pixels covering the clock area (in the notification bar) to stay on. This way the clock is always visible, and not much battery is drained(????)
That would only work on AMOLED screens.

That would only be beneficial to those who have AMOLED screens.
I am pretty sure the HTC Ace has a 480*800 LCD, and I don't think it is possible to shut down different areas of the screen without hardware mods.

maybe try using the desk clock, to my knowledge you use that and then u can press the powerbutton but all u see is the time and whatever else u set
So, I'm looking to try out a CM10/AKOP based rom, but in the past on other devices I have strayed away because I use the stock Samsung alarm clock every day.
The features I like about the Samsung alarm clock are:
Adjustable snooze time and count
Smart Alarm which has a separate ring tone and is also time adjustable
Disables the lock screen to snooze and turn off the alarm
Doesn't ever get killed by anything (even though I don't run any app killers)
Doesn't have an ugly UI
I am looking for an alarm clock that can replace the stock one, I'd like to have all the features replaced, I also don't mind paying as long as it does what I need it to.
I hope you guys can give me some suggestions

I use a carry-over app from my Palm OS days -- PalmarySoft Alarms. The developer ported it over to Android. I believe it's in the Play store now, but you can also find it at the PalmarySoft website. Nice features. I'm pretty sure it satisfies all your requirements and had additional features. It's a very mature app since it's been around so long.

This is what I use currently, but it's missing a lot of features that I like, and the way the per day alarm works is kinda wack. But it looks the best that's for sure. And I like the fact that it puts your next alarm in the notification which gives me security that the alarm's on.

Hi, take a look at Alarm Clock Millenium, it is highly customizable but not yet known (as it's new) maybe it will do more than what you expect cause it did it for me
I had an alarm clock on my Motofail Atrix where you had to stop it via slider. If you just tapped the screen, it went to snooze to annoy you again in 5 min. Missing that somehow as I tend to flip my phone accidentally while picking it up...
