(Q) Installing Custom ROM. - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi to all I just got my new Xperia Arc today.
I already read some threads regarding rooting and unlocking bootloader
i just like to ask if im going to just root my phone using zergrush without unlocking my bootloader. Will is it be possible to install Custom Roms if bootloader is lock but the device is rooted?

No you can't..you have to unlock it..arc has good ROM right? Why are you so hurry....just use it at least
One month

Custom ROMs

Is it a requirement of Custom ROMs to flash a Custom Kernal as well or can the stock Kernal be used. I'm using the latest Baseband that was supplied with the ICS update?

Yes, whenever you change ROM you should change the kernel as well. In the thread from the ROM it says which kernel you should use. For example for CyanogenMod you need to use the kernel provided. But there are also kernels which can be used for more than 1 ROM, like DoomKernel

The last time I flashed a custom ROM was on my X8 and it was stock all the way with the Kernal.
Does the boot loader need to be unlocked to flash a new Kernal?

OK. I think I'll stick as I am for now as I really want a vanilla ICS ROM with all hardware working, Software buttons and the hardware back, home & menu button disabled in Android but active in CWM.

It is not that hard to unlock the bootloader. It is way easier than it looks. And it gives you much more options to customize etc. It really recommend to unlock your bootloader

I'll look into unlocking the boot loader when I get in.
Are there any Vanilla ICS ROMs available?

Could you explain how to unlock bootloader on arc lt15i
When I go into service menu it says bootloader unlock allowed: no
I know jinx13 does it for a fee but are there any other methods?
Thus would be really helpful as I want to use custom Roms but can't find any that work with stock firmware
Cheers
I don't know it when it says bootloader unlock allowed: no
But you can always look it up oj google. Your are probably not the first one with this problem

Please help looking for a ROM!

OK so I got my Xperia PLAY, and I'm looking for a plain debloated, deodexed, clean stock ROM. Does such a ROM exist? Also, do I need an unlocked bootloader? How can I tell if my phones bootloader is locked or unlocked? Thanks!

Hmm.... You can debloat the default/stock rom
Thinking of ODEX then I've no clue.
Unless you're looking for a Rom that is already existent so what are you looking for?
Performance?
Stability?
Lightness?

Overall I want a really fast and stable ROM that is good for gaming. I want it to look like stock though. Also, what does supercharged mean? Would that make it faster? I plan on overclocking, too.
Would it just be possible to root and overclock stock 2.3.4?

You cant overclock with a stock kernel 2.3.4. Since you dont know if your bootloader is unlocked it is obviously locked. You need a custom kernel that allows overclocking and this discussion is ended since you are stuck with what you have.

Nope. If you flash a custom kernel with your bootloader locked you will have a soft brick device.

OK. I've been looking up ways to unlock the bootloader on the R800X. I have dialed the number so you can get to the menu where you can check if you can unlock your bootloader, but there is nothing that says "rooting status" in the information part. My phone IS rooted. Does this mean I can't unlock the bootloader? I'm on Verizon.
Hey buddy, I have the same R800X as you on Verizon. We can't unlock bootloader for free unfortunately. I paid 20 to get mine unlocked. It was worth it for sure.
I am running debloated, supercharged stock 2.3.3 rom, and it works great.
I just got my Xperia Play last Friday

Thanks for the advice. Where did you get your bootloader keys? I think I'm going to chose the same path you did. Also, what kernel are you using? Thanks again!

I got my phone unlocked through here: http://unlock-bootloader.com/
I was a little nervous at first because you have to pay first and then he unlocks your phone. But I went ahead and did it and I would recommend it fully. It took about 10 minutes from beginning to end.
I am using Doomkernel. Going from the stock kernel and Doomkernel is like night and day. The phone is much more responsive and stable.
But the true speed gain is when you supercharge the rom. My friend, I have never seen speed gains so obvious.
Combine this with an overclock, and I will promise you will be impressed. The stock cpu speed is 1ghz, but I have just oc'ed to 1.2ghz. My max stable cpu speed is 1.9ghz, but I found 1.2ghz is a perfect speed for my needs
Sprint Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch w/ Stock 4.0.4
Xperia Play R800X w/ supercharged stock 2.3.3 and doomkernel
I have a locked bootloader and Gin2Jellybean. It is fairly debloated and everything especially if you get the lite version. And then you can always uninstall any more with root uninstaller from the market

800at successful ics?

love my phone. but it's almost 2 years old. my phone is stock but rooted and it runs excellent since i've cleared all the bloat.
i've got a build 3.0.1.b.0.270
android version 2.3.3
is there anyone happy with stock ics on their att play? if so, does everything work 100% (wifi, text messaging, internet)?
sorry for this newbie post to the experts but would appreciate help. thanks.
Atm there's no stock ics ics firmware... Most of them are modded roms from the original ics beta or ported from other devices... But first, UNLOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER... If it's still locked you won't be able to flash any custom kernel or Rom...

To install ics you need to have your bootloader unlocked. Other than that your set to go with everything else.

On Krisdees Sony ICS Beta everything works great battery life with lupus 720 p ICS +GB......unlocking your boot loader is your primary objective...IdK if your being a r800a makes things different...as I am r800i

R800a and R800i are the same thing, it doesn't matter which in one you have... unlock your bootloader via zergrush and i recommend you to try either the express rom or the markpython rom, both have NXT looks... if you wanna try something a little different, try de hybrid rom by krisdee...
Have to pay

As far as I know, you have to pay to have your bootloader unlocked if you have the r800at. I recommend Jinx13, I got it done in about 10 minutes.

[Q] Alternatives rom to xperia s with 2.55 Firmwares with locked bootloader

Hello friends, good morning!
I have a xperia s with 2.55 Firmwares with locked bootloader. And, finally, I managed to make root through this process:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39498268
I would change the official rom
What do you recommend me?
With the locked bootloader, is it possible for me to put some 4.1 or 4.2?

You cannot install 4.1 or 4.2 ROMs on locked boot loader for now. Sorry. Check the development section for a list of roms that work on locked bootloader. We are not allowed to tell which ROM is the best so you will have to try it for yourself. Sorry again.

[Q] Bootloader unlock allowed: NO

Hi there,
Is there a way to unlock this bootloader? Bootloader unlock allowed: NO
I've a C1905 with 4.1.2 (15.1.C.1.17), i've notification of update to 15.1.C.2.8...
thks
No there is no way of doing it, your one of many unlucky people with hard locked bootloaders. Plus that's the old 4.1 update and it's now on 4.3 so update to 15.1.c.2.8 then after that update to 4.3
Sent from my C1905 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Sad to say , you cant unlock your bootloader
Well your not really unlucky because Sony is keeping updates for our beloved Xperia M. Just be contented to it .
Thks u all for the quick response...
I'll have to stick with the SE ROM.... i loved costum roms in my old Nexus S...
Can i root the device with any version? or its better to do that before updating?
