Ideal color settings - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Alright, so after playing around with the color settings and trying a bunch of different configurations, I have come to something where the colors actually look good in low brightness (Though they look great in higher brightness as well)
Everything I tried before was either too blue or too yellow, so let me know what you guys think!
Color multiplyers
RED: 170
GREEN: 150
BLUE: 160
Color control:
RED: -10
GREEN: 0
BLUE: -10

I've always thought it was interesting that everybody has a blind spot on their eye in a different place.. In high school I wrote a paper on how the color I perceive to be blue you could see what I perceive to be yellow, but since kids we were always taught that color was "blue" so we call it the same thing and think we are seeing the same thing even though we are actually viewing two different colors. Anyways, I like the (franco.kernel recommended) values: 180, 192, 200, -4, 0, 5.

The thing is the recommended values work great at 40% brightness or higher. At lowest, at least on my screen, the colors are terribly blue.

I think those values look kinda weird. I'm using the values recommended by franco.kernel updater:
Color multiplyers
RED: 180
GREEN: 192
BLUE: 200
Color control:
RED: -4
GREEN: 0
BLUE: 5

me too, the Franco.kernel value work very fine with my phone

I used to think this too. But if that were the case, you wouldn't be able to see some numbers on the "color blind test." This is the test that has a bunch of different colored bubbles and has a number in the middle of the circles.

I'm new to this phone. What can I use to adjust these values. I'm curious to see what difference it will make because the colors seem fine to me

If you download franco kernel and get his updater app you can adjust the color settings manually

Oic thanks. Downloaded and changed to recommended values. Seems a lot bluer. I'll wait a few hours and see if I adjust

Interesting, I've never thought about that. But does that actually disprove the idea? I know there are different types of color blindness.. One in particular comes in handy for snipers because the targets stand out more, I know this because my buddy who has this particular color blindness was recruited to snipe for just that reason. I never actually thought we perceived different colors, but its a cool idea, makes you think..

That's what I use too.

wow, that looked VERY green to me. wasn't a fan at all. i am keeping your color multiplier values but keeping -4,0,5 for color control and i like that.

Hate the blue tint issue. No calibration/settings can fix it!

[KERNEL] [POLL] SpeedMod Color Tests

Hi guys,
In the next version of SpeedMod, I'll be making some changes to the color of the UI. In the JPX source code drivers, there are some new configuration settings which are interesting.
This kernel is based of K12F and should be stable. It is labelled K12G-TEST.
In this thread I will upload 3 different color settings:
Neutral
Warm (more yellow: use this if your screen is too blue)
Cold (more blue: use this if your screen is too yellow)
No color management
The purpose of this thread is to gather feedback from you about which color setting you prefer.
I realize that there are at least 2 types of screens with different colors - one which is more blue, one which is more yellow.
The file with "-warm" is the warm color version.
The file with "-cold" is the cold color version.
The file without "-warm" or "-cold" is the neutral color version.
The file without "-noc" is the version with no color management.
Reserved for future use.
On my friends SGS his whites are more like faint yellowish, on my phone its perfectly white.
So yeah there are panels that are probably poorly calibrated.
Thank you hardcore, i've never had problem with both version (normal and color) of any version of yours. So, normal is better i think
Have you thought about changing text color in CWM from green to blue or green like Amon-Ra recovery?

would be nice, let me explain:
purple: samsung (blue?)
green: zstupy
blue: hardcore (purple?)
red: supercurio
easy to distinguisch en you can tell by the collor what kernel you have

I'm perfectly fine with color versions developed so far...will I notice further improvements using neutral color version from this thread?

Haha... no I don't plan on changing it, and theoretically green is the best because Pentile-matrix AMOLED displays (like the one in the SGS) have the full resolution for green pixels, and less resolution for red and blue pixels.

Understood
Important is that it works always
I would try cold version, is it possible to have it at 256Hz?
Thank you hardcore
I also would be really appreciate if you could change the CWM color.
Maybe it`s not the best resolution on Pentile-Matrix-Displays but something special at all
I compared my SGS white level to my PC monitor (Eizo FlexScan S2431W), and I saw that it was a bit cold (blue).
Tried your warm version to correct it, but it seems too much for me.
To specify:
On low and medium screen brightness the screen is now too warm.
On full brightness, it seems OK.
Which makes me think that this matter is more complex than just adjusting one slider or setting or whatever, since the color temperature seems to change a lot with brightness.
On second thought I am not sure if my observations are 100% correct... maybe I'm just too used to a cold temperature...

Thanks for your feedback. So u find the warm too warm, versus your monitor.
Although it's a good basis for comparison, color balance is very tricky because it depends on the ambient light - if you are out in the sun, your display will seem more yellow (because sunlight is very blue). If you are indoors using warm lighting, your display will seem more blue.
The MDNIE software allows a certain level of control - at this point I can control the red/blue color balance which affects all brightness levels. This is similar to Samsung's own presets.
At this point I don't think I want to venture into trying to correct colors at different brightness levels - the source code also doesn't seem to offer that.
Mine is redish, installed your "blue" and it is just darker red...
Tonite I will install the new "no process" version, at least it uses less battery...
@hardcore,
Mention [POLL] on the Title.
Ooops, there is no Odin version this time...
Thank you for your good work!
However i prefer the noc kernel, colors are more natural, but it's my own point of view.
neutral here too
Please note that neutral and no color management versions are not the same.
Noc version has actually colder colors, from what I can see.

I voted for NOC, are you going to do an Odin version ?
Thanks,
The 'warm' version is PERFECT for my first generation UK i9000. Many thanks, been waiting on a colour fix for ages now!
Tony
For me the standard works best. The cool is too cold, and the warm makes the screen yellow. I find this strange because I was using the cool versions up until now. Is the color correction dial turned up a bit too much?

[Q] original trinity kernel colors.

I was messing around with the trinity kernel colors and I want to go back :silly:
Anyone mind telling me what the settings were?
Something like 135, 135, 215 contrast 24. Could be wrong this is from memory.
Contrast -24
CAB on, Spice melange on
All gammas 0
Red and Green color multipliers 135
Blue color multiplier 214

Hey guys, I just flashed Trinity, and I really didn't like the colors.
The blues are too dark..actually, everything is dark.
I kinda like the whites though.
How can I get it close to stock colors? And where are those settings? thanks!
To get stock colors on Trinity kernel, use Trickster app or Trinity Kernel Toolkit to change contrast and all gammas to 0, and all color multipliers to 200. You have to turn off spice melange first.

[Q]Trickster mod

Now I just installed a custom ROM and I'm wondering, I've put my color settings to
Contrast 6
Red 290
Green 290
Blue 400
If I put them this high, is that gonna harm my screen in anyway?
Default android is 200 across the board, and most other custom ones barely cross 200
And does anyone how I can make my notification bar transparent black?
Sent from my ak'ed GNexus
For the screen color question, I have it set to 400 straight across and haven't had any issues.
The the notification background, that is usually a feature included in ROMs.

Changing RGB won't have an adverse side effect on your screen. Contrast and gamma however can. Just make sure you don't go too extreme with either and you should be fine. The notification bar transparency is a mod. Depending on your ROM there might be a flashable zip if youre on AOSP without mods or most custom ROMs have either theme chooser or onthefly changing of that alpha variable.

[Q] Best screen color settings in CM10.2

Hi! I would like to learn a good setting for improve my screen quality, my phone is a year old (a little more)
Search for @Nephilim his thread. He has some good values. Here are mine using the free Trickster mod app:
Contrast: 0
Gamma adjustment: 0
Gamma offset
Red: -4
Green: 0
Blue: 5
Color multiplier
Red: 140
Green: 140
Blue: 212
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium HD app
Hn.. got a few Trickster settings for ya. These'll go for most ROM/kernel combos. Had one of the screens with the dingy yellow-whites.
So an aged amoled (a year is good enough to fit in such a catagory tbh) might benefit most from these.
Contrast: -7
Gamma: +7
Gamma Offsets-
Red: 0
Green: 0
Blue: 7
Multipliers-
Red: 217
Green: 207
Blue: 327
If using a kernel with Trinity colors (since there's no Gamma control) , Contrast Offset should be -24 and Red & Green in Multipliers should be lowered 20 points.
If using mpokang, up Red & Green by 30 points.
Note: If you're using a kernel that has UV controls, and an Auxiliary (I think it was called) section where the MMC and Regulator stuff goes.. there's one control that affects the screen display. It's default voltage is around 3200 I think. Anyways, if lowered to 2850, Gamma/Contrast and such will be heavily affected. These are my Trickster settings after undervolting this... anomaly:
Contrast: Low as possible
Gamma: +10
Gamma Offsets-
Red: 4
Green: 4
Blue: 11
Multipliers-
Red: 278
Green: 264
Blue: 378
All Multiplier values can be lowered or raised relative to each other, depending how much brightness one prefers.
Hope this helps a bit!
Wow, thanks!
Can't believe this worked out so well:
Contrast: -24
Gamma: 0
Gamma Offsets-
Red: 0
Green: 0
Blue: 7
Multipliers-
Red: 197
Green: 187
Blue: 327
And just as I was about to finally give in to upgrading when last week I was comparing my GN display next to my bro's N5 and yes I know it's not even a close/fair match up, but I never thought my display was really that bad, it was like completely yellow.
Now the whites really look white even when putting my GN up next to my 60" Sharp quattron 240hz LED TV set at full backlight.
LOL
Thanks guys!, I can't test those options completely cuz I'm on official CM10.2 and I just have 2 types of settings
*Colour Calibration R-G-B from 0% to 100%
*Gamma correction R-G-B from -20 to 20
What I should do?

Are you using the option in settings? If yes then download trickster mod from the play store. If you still cant set any color calibration just flash a custom kernel.

Contrast: - 15
Gamma: 5
Red: 6
Green: 4
Blue: 11
Color multipliers
Red 270
Green 250
Blue 340

Yes, I'm using the option in settings (Official CM10.2)
Trickster Mod has the color option but just the pro version :/
I'm facing some problems with CM10.2 (insane battery drain from "phone", inclusive in Idle mode, more that 40% in just one night :/...) so, Im thinking switch again to stock rom, maybe 4.1, so, there's some good kernel for 4.1 that include color settings?, Im tired of 4.3 problems...really!

I think for now I prefer using your settings, they seem like a better compromise especially for a user like myself that has never changed any display color settings before, it still gives me the slightest warm whites, but not at all yellowish like it had been previously.
Guess my eyes need to get use to not seeing completely yellow whites first, then perhaps the ultra white settings I previously tested will be easier to view.
BTW
I'm running:
4.1.2 PA 2.57 ROM
Zen V10 kernel

[Q] How to get 3 color gradient

When defining the Fill Mode of a Gradient progress bar, the FG color and Additional Color options seem to define beginning and end gradient colors. How would you get a 3rd color if you wanted to create an effect similar to UCCW "Hollow with gradient" style for a battery gauge?
Anybody?
Anyidea?
Crickets Crickets...... does anybody have any idea on this OP?
Why not create two seperate progressbars (1st from 0-50, 2nd from 51-100, second progressbar beginning with the colour the first one ends with)?

Very nice @Sandman.
I would settle for gradients to work properly for two colors. So much more we could do if they worked.

The easiest way is to make multiples of the same thing with different gradients, or make images in photoshop touch for phone, then pull into ZW.

Gradient IS broken, at least the way it renders on my phone. The color never actually converges to the second color. If you have a pure black object and set the gradient color to pure white it never actually gets to pure white. Same when setting to transparent...it never actually becomes transparent at the edge of the gradient field.
The problem with using Gimp (not going to spend $100 to make widgets, and have no other use for Photoshop) is its kind of a pain to go back and forth. If gradients worked it would cover a ton of my use cases.
I agree. But I was talking about the 4.99 app from the app store.
Check out "Photoshop Touch for phone"

It works wonders. ..
