Hi,
I have got the best ever battery timing on my Galaxy W. Currently I am not rooted so no under clocking. I am using the stock ROM. I got more than 4 days of single full recharge.
I think picture says all.
Thanks

Its just an unrooted Asian stock ROM ( JP). I tried almost every stock ROM but found this one very good for battery.
I thing important here that I calibrated the battery in the usual way common to all android set.
Its still remaining 20% so the total time would be about 4.5 days, and its good enough for me.

How about wifi, data network, bluetooth, gaming? these are the most power consuming events.

Off-course they are very little in my case. Actually I was in the search of best ROM (specially region specific base-band/radio) that conserve very little power and this Rom meets my requirements.
Games will be taking his own battery share if played. But at least the base-band/radio is not eating up the battery and that was my point.

haha~actually the base-band doesnt affect so much. If u keep ur phone within those "strong" signal coverage region (not rural areas or basement), the power consumption will be lesser.
Theoretically, our phone is able to give u 17-18 hrs for 2G call assuming u use pure stock rom w/o additional apps installed.

Well in my experience I have seen different power consumption pattern on different radios/basebands' specially in htc sets.I also observed heat and power consumption on different radios while the signal level is constant. And I noticed it was the same case with Sammy. I tried different regions stock Rom and found the Asian one bes for power consumption.

I don't know the exact difference that whether its in baseband or kernel.
Any developer should explain that what is the difference between Asian and European Roms except the CSC.

Hello,
I know all of you have heard this time and time again. I'm sure I'm going to create a huge battle discussion, which I don't want honestly. But I've searched throughout the forums with no luck, and if I've missed this, please direct me and delete the post. So, with that said, hear me out..
I understand apples iPhone's battery tends to last long because of the not so true multitasking, and there are hundreds of ways to make androids battery life significant.
I was just wondering if there was any ROM, kernel, etc to get rid of the "android true multitasking" to increase battery life. Myself as an android user, never tend to use widgets or really have any use for multitasking anyways. I play on facebook, text, and make calls periodically. Anyone want to chime in without blowing my head off on this one?

Really? Doesn't seem like it would or even that it would increase battery usage since apps have to be restarted every time.
It will definitely free up ram, but that's not really an issue with the GNex.
I should probably also state that I'm on Vicious CM10 w/ stock kernel, and have not yet seen more then 10 hours and 2 hours on screen time.

True, but I only use my phone for browsing facebook, xda, and text messaging. I never play games, use youtube, netflix, or any other battery drainer. I also keep 4g off. I would think I could get more then 10 hours and 2 hour screen time with the 2100 mah extended battery (already exchanged for a new, so it's not the battery)
Hi All,
My Gnex 9250 has a poor battery life, My brother has the same phone and his battery last much longer(with 3g) than mine. Please help.
1130 AM - Battery 100%
1 and half hour Music(Player Pro) - Not much screen activity(with 2G enabled)
2G on for 6 hours, Pretty long texting.
about 45 Minutes of Browsing(2g)
10 Mins on Voice calls.
No Widgets.Background apps = Swiftkey,Go launcher(No theme),Profile scheduler.
By 12am battery was 20%
Screen brigntness is VERY low so its not that, Its about 20%.
Phone is about a month old.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT - 4.1.1(No available updates)
The fact your battery goes over 12hrs seems it's not too bad with moderate use. And who knows if your bro uses his as much as he says? If you want to compare then look at his battery stats in settings next to yours.
Try a different ROM? Kernel?

Thanks for your reply. My brother does use as he said, Ive seen his battery stats, uptime was 1 day 9 hours(14% then). He doesnt text half as much as I do, but his voice calls are much more than mine. Also hes on 3g thats a bigger battery hog than 2g. Not too keen on changing the Kernel/Rom.
Could it be SwiftKey and Go launcher? He doesnt use either of them.
Thanks again.

there are lots of thing that can affect your battery life one of it is the kernel ur using.
I already have this problem before.
i've tried lots of custom rom. the only custom rom that solve this battery issues is from Android Revolution HD 7.0.0
from this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361348
imo the best battery/performance kernel out there is franco's. try it, battery will be 2x to 3x longer.
if you like to fool around with what's chewing battery you can get better battery stats and it will tell you what keeps your phone from going to sleep. sometimes nothing, sometimes crappy app that messes things up
good luck!
Thanks to all for your replies.
Guess that 12 hours is not bad afterall right? Seems like that from the first reply I got.
Unfortunatly I have no time to re-flash a differnt ROM/Kernel. But thanks for all reccomendations.

You say that your brother doesn't text as much as you but he uses voice calls more. Remember that when you're texting the screen is on and that has a big impact on battery life.
There's not a kernel, ROM, or flying saucer out there that can triple battery life Just saying. People get fanatical about certain ROM/kernel combos. The usual suspects are leaving on things you don't need and on occasion an app. People claim that different things work better on different phones but I think it's a bunch of crap. Much of what you hear is placebo.

You have barely any screen time! Also...you have something keeping your phone awake....big time! Should check that out! You're battery will last even longer if you get your phone deep sleeping!
I usually get 30 hours or so with around 4 hours screen time ....and really...it doesn't vary much no matter what rom I'm on.
That's with my use anyway. Games will drain your battery quick...also no matter what rom you're on.
I'd say use whatever rom appeals to you...I think drastic battery difference among roms is an urban legend.

I heard about the charger issue. I've gotten in the habit for awhile now of always rebooting after a charge. Haven't had sleep issues on any rom with rebooting after a charge.
I do agree that some roms and kernel are better on the battery....but it seems like a minor increase...not enough to influence my choice in roms anyway. I choose a rom that has what I need it to have, has good support, an active thread with dev active in thread....plus dev track history plays some role....I do tend to stick with certain devs.
For me anyway....my 30 hour average....3 1/2 to 4 1/2 screen time has been consistent on any jb rom I've tried. But hey....others may have different experiences.

My benchmark for best battery is how well the phone sleeps, the lastest AOKP nightly has my phone sleeping better than any other rom I have run. I am also running eugene's dual core sleeper app though I have not tested the build without the sleeper app. screen on battery use is going to be a pig, only an hour or so of difference between roms/kernels...

yup me too, all jb 4.2.2 ROMS including CM builds and AOSP seem to drain a lot faster even on idle conditions. But i found paranoid android 2.57 jb 4.1.2 far better as far as battery is concerned and maybe better than stock and at the same time fluid and smooth.

If you press "screen" in that battery stats menu you've just shown us, you can see the time that screen was on. That was what we'd like to see to determine if you battery life is abnormal compared to others. What you're showing doesn't tell us a lot. 13 hours is not much, but everyone has a different idea of what "not using the phone much" is.
What would your guess be for screen time, 2 hours, 3 hours?
Anyway, 13 hours is not much, your phone should be able to do much better if you didn't play any games. It really depends in Android what apps you have installed, because some bad apps drain battery in the background.

Give couple of more weeks to the phone. Charge more. Usually all the Xperia gives better result after few full charge cycles. And battery life varies actually.
Read the Battery life Thread available in General Section. You should find several tweaks and tips from the other users.
I have the same problem, on stock rom i had something like 0,5% battery drain per hour, on AOSP/ Jelly Bean roms i have 2~4% per hour...

You just need to find the ROM and kernel combo that works well with your phone. I have tried ROMs/kernel combos that some get excellent battery life from but mine is horrible and vice versa. Keep testing as it is a trial and error type thing. Also your kernel settings can make huge differences. What works for one may not work well with your phone. Different settings on the same kernel may net you excellent results.

I have noticed battery life tends to vary wildly depending on ROMs and even people. I guess I don't use my phone all day long, but on a TouchWIZ 4.1 ROM, the app "Battery Left" (from Play Store, its free) reports that I can get up to 46 hours on a full charge, based on my typical usage patterns (and if I use Greenify). On the other hand, I have used an AOSP 4.2.2 ROM in the past (such as LiquidSmooth), and Battery Left will tell me, after a few days, that I will get about 25 hours on a full charge (again, with Greenify). I have to do more testing, but there is definitely some difference between ROMs and battery life...

I am using one of the unofficial CM11 ports that is supported nightly and have been getting terrible battery life. I hate to ask the question which is the "best", but what would be a good kernel to flash?
I do not do much heavy gaming either. In fact, I do not do any gaming. Just casual browsing.

Well before I suggest any kind of "good kernel to flash" I want to make note of something. If you're running a nightly of an unsupported version of CM11 then don't expect great battery life. This has little to do with what you're doing on the phone but the purpose of nightly's is to have users report bugs. Many of these bugs are the kind that can drain battery rather quickly. So the first thing I'd do is find a stable AOSP rom to run on before thinking about kernels.
That being said, a kernel universally accepted as "good" is KT747 by Koonsez

So the first thing I'd do is find a stable AOSP rom to run on before thinking about kernels.
That being said, a kernel universally accepted as "good" is KT747 by Koonsez

Thanks for the reply bud. I personally like supporting the nightly versions of ROMs but I wasn't thinking the reporting that I do is causing that much of a battery drain.
I may consider today to go to a stable AOSP ROM that isn't nightly.

I have been flashing ROMs now for the past 4 years. I have never really got into the nitty gritty of anything specific but probably best I do. One question I had in regards to all these ROMs is, do they not come with their own Kernel which I would have assumed is the best recommended for the given ROM. When i see battery life of 14+hrs with room to go, I must be doing something wrong.
Thank you for any info in advance.

I am using one of the unofficial CM11 ports that is supported nightly and have been getting terrible battery life. I hate to ask the question which is the "best", but what would be a good kernel to flash?
I do not do much heavy gaming either. In fact, I do not do any gaming. Just casual browsing.
