verizon claims to officially rolling out update for your phone - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

thanks to Verizon Wireless screwing over my what was suppose to be short day but end up longer as after half an hour of talking to a rep on the phone i end up going to the store as i completely lost voice + text + data on my device because another rep at some local store disabled my sim card and transfered it over another unit which my brother was trying to activate for himself...
so instead of 3:30pm, I've got home at ~4pm (thanks to my suzuki gsx-r600
while i was at the store i asked rep what's up with update for my galaxy nexus? how come gsm version got it and even nexus s got it, why not me? my phone is acting up every now and then sometimes even reboots on me and radio don't get me started on that, so the guy told me verizion supposedly *already* rolling it out as we speak (which was today april 5th) and they're supposedly doing in small batches (which i assume someone would've posted it here long time ago if that was really the case) and i am also going get it any time now...
am I missing something??

When I bought my Galaxy Nexus from Verizon three weeks ago, the rep told me they were rolling out 4.0.5 "as of this morning".
Don't believe a word they say.

what a bunch of (beep), i (beep) (beep) them, those mother(beep).

They'll tell you anything they can to get you to leave satisfied. The average CS rep at a Verizon store has no idea.

First clue the rep was lying:
Their lips were moving.
Second clue the rep was lying:
The ota pdf for the Nexus would have been updated beforehand.

so I called Verizon again today and tech support rep told me that they moved rolling out to early May now... can anyone confirm any of that? I just dont believe a word they're saying anymore...

Root your damn phone and install the update yourself. Never depend on a carrier to push an update and don't cry when they take forever.

The one thing root cannot give is an updated 4.04 Verizon radio. Which will hopefully fix the signal issues....as promised

[Q] Verizon Wants to Take my Nexus?

I got my Nexus LTE on Wednesday, had it replaced on Friday, and now VZW wants to take it back all together. They are saying that Samsung is working on a fix on the phone, but now Verizon thinks its a Network issue?
Does any one have a Nexus that isn't dropping Data constantly? Is it a bad Batch of phones? Does anyone know what is going on?
The ones with data drops are the most vocal...
I, for one, find my GNex's signal to be COMPLETELY comparable to my Droid X.
I still get the same slightly-spotty service at work (center of a hospital...surrounded by lead to protect from the X-Ray Machines' radiation). Excellent service literally everywhere else I've been.
I'm also not experiencing ANY 4.0.4 deep-sleep related drops as many are.
Bad Batch
So, is there just a bad batch of phones out there? Because this seems that this has to be a hardware issue. With a certain amount of phones that went out.
Mine is working great, I had to have it warrantied twice before I got one that didn't drop signal randomly.
Seems like the ones made in Korea are your best bet for better signal. My China ones were horrible.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I think my wife and i may both be having this issue with random signal drops while on 4G. 3G is solid as a rock. 4G drops and reconnects about every 3 minutes. Does that sound like hardware?
How do you tell where the phone is made?
i really think verizon hates this phone and doesnt really want to sell a nexus to people...
Talked to Verizon
So we are trying this one more time...
I talked to Verizon today, and the Tech person had the same phone and lived in my area and said she was not having any issues, which led her to believe it was Hardware and Software. She also said some razors are having the same issue, and if I switch phones I could have the same issue again. So, I am going to swap it out again and see what happens?
I have had 5 of these phones and they all have this problems.
Vzn just sucks!!! I can't wait until I can afford to break the contract!!!! and I thought sprint was bad!!! T-Mobile was heaven compared to this garbage service!!!!

Just because they are included in the CDMA/LTE version for Verizon, doesn't mean they touched anything on the OS side.

I believe that the radios, and maybe a few other driver packages, are developed by verizon and only distributed by google when they package their releases. That's what the tiff a few months back was with the CDMA phones being "dropped" by AOSP, a licensing conflict with anything that interacts with the CDMA tech being tied down and not open source. The actual Android code is google's game, true, but it's not the only thing the phones run on.
So there's room for Verizon to screw up the way the phones run in the OTA packages.

Just cause you're having issues with Verizon doesn't mean it's the same for everyone. Have fun being throttled on T-Moible's "4G" after you hit 2GB .
I've had nothing but exceeding standard service from Verizon reps. Only thing I hate is that it took Verizon forever to come out with this phone. And the updates take longer than GSM ones, but still, its faster than any other phone.
I actually don't mind the 2 apps they pre installed. I actually use My Verizon and I used to use Backup Assistant, a lot of people still use it.

I got one that works
On my 3rd try i got a phone that works, at least I think it works. The agents said that it can't be a lot number on the phones, because the same lots give out good and bad phones. They also said the Razor is having the same issues. They just told me to keep this one on 3G only until the update Samsung is supposed to be sending comes out.

VZW customer service is amazing
I have never had an issue where VZW customer service DIDN'T immediately suggest "let me send you a new phone" when I called with an issue. The only phone I've ever had with VZW where I didn't warranty replace a phone (in Droid X's case, FIVE TIMES before they finally sent me an X2) was my old Blackberry 8703e. I'm on my 2nd GNEX (after a bad screen/battery life/overheating issue with my first) and I can't imagine every having someone other than VZW. I mean, I get 20Mb/s D/L on 4G LTE and 10-15 upload...and no matter how much bandwidth I use (with my husband and I playing MMOs via my GNEX) we do not get throttled. It really isn't VZW's fault if there is some widespread hardware issue in some of the phones that shipped.

Let me say it again.
Verizon did not touch the software or hardware in this device.
Did they supply Google with some apks and libs? Sure they did. Do they affect ANY PART of operation?
Heck no.
Verizon outsources their app development, by the way. If Verizon had modified anything built by Google, it would have broken signatures. Guess what? Google signs our otas and they stay signed (otherwise we couldn't install them).

Help fast.

Can someone on a stock ROM tell me exactly what it says when you try to update the software but you are already up to date? Customer service is asking me and I don't have that option on a custom ROM.

However, if he was mentioning IMM76I, he is confused with AOSP, or he read your build version

Well I've been having ongoing issues since February (That's the time I actualy realized it) with my text messages not being received by others. Got a replacement phone and SIM 3 weeks ago and it still happens about 15% of the time. It happened to about 50% of my messages this morning and my friends sent me screen shots to see what was missed and I finally just gave up. Verizon has pretty crappy service in my area anyway and about half a mile from my house is one of the strongest LTE towers in the country on AT&T and I have yet to find a friend that ever loses LTE in Austin. My current LTE reception is spotty and I'm on 3G 75% of the time. Since Austin is in line to get Sprint LTE soon, I might have to consider that also.

ALL NORTH AMERICAN (sgh-i747/m) galaxy s3 confirmed lollipop!!!

((((((((((((((((((((((So today I was on Samsung's Canadian website and decided to do a live chat with a representative about the S3 (SGH-I747M) and ask if the two year old handset will be updated to 4.4.4 or even 5.0.
I was shocked by what the rep told me: I've included screenies for proof that i am not lying go ahead and hold your S3s to the sky and bask in the glory of these wonderful screen shots.)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
ABOVE IS OUT DATED INFO CHECK REPLY BELOW FOR MORE ACCURATE INFORMATION REGARDING THE LOLLIPOP UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MY DEVICE INFO:
ROM: SAMSUNG STOCK KITKAT 4.4.2 FIRMWARE
BASEBAND: I747MVLUFNK2
BUILD NUMBER: KOT49H.I747MVLUFNK2
CARRIER: BELL
All sgh-i747/m users will recieve lollipop via ota!!!!!!
AT&T, Rogers, Bell Telus and all other carriers carrying the SGH-I747M GALAXY SIII will recieve the Lollipop 5.0 OTA Update directly from samsung. I have now confirmed for all North american s3 users...Proof available in the screenshot included.
Even though there are rumors, I would take what the csr's say with a grain of salt.
I gave my s3 to my niece and it would be nice to get 5.0 but it may be tough to see the difference between kk and 5.0 since both would be running touch wiz.

They are not rumors anymore. I've given proof that all i747m will receive lollipop. I tried to confirm with Samsung US but they would not say anything but told me to wait and not believe any rumors that the s3 will no longer be supported. they also hinted that something is in the works, when Samsung Canada specifically confirmed that it will receive the update...only one conclusion: samsung US is keeping quiet about the update.
I had a Motorola Atrix HD and Motorola's tech support team and David Schuster of Motorola also said KK was coming to the Atrix HD and it never happened. Let's hope Samsung's CSR is right.
Even if this is true, what about root?
You spoke with a csr who could tell you anything they'd like. Kinda like s csr telling me they were installing fiber optic for my building, that was 7 years ago. Until there is public word from Samsung, carriers, or until it starts actually rolling out..... It's still a rumor.
I also am a bit sceptical. That csr never said Google had yet sent the update to Samsung, he did not say that Samsung had received the update, nor did he say that Samsung had made their changes and sent the updates to the carriers. The csr gave a flow chart but did not state if the process had actually been started. Also, once the carrier receives the update from Samsung it can take months to get released, at least based on AT&Ts past history with my first device.
IF THEY RELEASE IT, we'll let you know! IF we decide to release it! Any day now!

Lollipop Update

Okay this is kind of weird because I know T-Mobile has not rolled out the update. In fact I believe they are completely refusing to do it to force people to resort to upgrading phones. But I got this system update on my phone this morning and I am wondering if anybody has gotten it as well or has any explanation. I haven't downloaded it yet.
T-Mobile SGH-M919. Weird because it says the GPE
it has been said before if you would have searched, but it is a patch for the stagefright vulnerability and that is about it.

Which rom where you using when you get this message?
GPE has already been updated to 5.1, so even if that is LP it's still older than current.
I have been calling TMOBILE (US) every week since May to find out where the LOLLIPOP UPGRADE is for my SGH-M919 ((Galaxy S4) and finally about 3 weeks ago I got them to confess that SAMSUNG HAD GIVEN THEM TO UPDATE FOR THIS PHONE - BUT, THEY WERE NOT GOING TO RELEASE IT.
When I asked why, I was given the B***S*** answer that there were known bugs and all other providers had problems with it - I said they were corrected in the 5.01, and 5.1 versions - he then basically (without saying it) stated they want people to buy newer devices.
I told him I OWN MY DEVICE, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT, and I WILL ROOT IT AND PUT A CUSTOM ROM ON IT.
I was told, you will void your warranty.....I rolled with laughter and said...it is over 2 years old - THERE IS NO F***ING WARRANTY anymore...and I hung up.
*BH*
Yet another great example of why I jumped ship for Cricket. Tmo does all this uncarrier crap because they say they care about the consumer, but when it's all on the table they're just like Verizon or Sprint or AT&T. If you're on older hardware, then they don't care about you. You're a number that they added years ago, and all that matters are the numbers they'll add today and tomorrow.
I'm still rockin' my S4 after all this time. When I'm ready to upgrade, I'll be buying my phone unlocked and ready to go with Cricket. Now that the new Nexus devices are on their way, I'm just going to save up and splurge on the Nexus 6P and not have to worry about bull**** carriers screwing me on updates and security fixes.
I buy T-Mo phones because they traditionally have unlocked bootloaders, so I can flash whatever ROM I like. ATT, and I believe Cricket, tends to use phones where the bootloader is locked down tightly. I like the open Nexus platform and am also considering one in the future...

Hey guys and gals, there is a new OTA available. Build number AOJ1. It comes in at almost 119mb.
It is still 5.1.1 and just general performance improvements, etc. I haven't had a chance to run it through its paces yet. I will update as I have a better idea of how it is.

The problem here is that your using Cricket, even though the phone may be on an AT&T Network, AT&T will not recognize the device as being on their network. AT&T is always fairly strict with who, what, and when they roll out updates. It is also possible it just isn't available in the area you are as well. If all else fails go to a Best Buy and have them flash the device to the most current at the Samsung Kiosk. Though they are usually about a month or so behind on updates typically, at least last I recall anyway. Believe me if AT&T Execs had their way I am more than willing to bet they would lock their phones down so hard no one would be able to take their phones to another carrier. T-Mobile on the other hand is fairly open with what people do with their cellphones hence the reason most of their phones can be rooted etc.
On am on at&t with an AT&T phone and I am on old version? I called at &t and Rep says they cannot push an update? Ended up having me call asurion. Insurance company for the phone and they have no idea? Any help in this matter would be great.
