Can we use this to pay for goods in the UK?
if so, what software do we need on the phone. There's a few shops in my town that have a contactless payment machine so I'm wanting to try it out.
any ideas?
Also, can these be used to scan and copy a proximity card for use at work to let me in doors?
I am one of the worst for forgetting my card each day so having my ID on my phone would be useful!

I don't think so. Basically Android has the functionality to read/write NFC tags and communicate with NFC devices that expect an active NFC device, but can't communicate with NFC/RFID devices that expect an NFC/RFID tag.

any way we can make payments then like they can in the US?
Ive got it working in the UK. I flashed the app from here and factory reset, then opened Google wallet with a non-Apps Google account, added a new prepaid card and its all working, paid for a coffee at starbucks this morning in London. Only problem I have now is how to top up my prepaid card. Only US cards are supported.

The simplest way would be to super-glue your Oyster card to the back of the phone. But that would impair other NFC uses.
With Visa and Mastercard support we are meant to get Google Wallet in early 2012. Source
I paid with my Visa PayWave card today at Greggs.....the lady there had absolutely no clue what just happened, she kept telling me to insert my card even though I told her that I've got a contactless card and the payment has already been authorized(according to what was displayed on the terminal). She had no idea if that's normal/allowed so she had to ask the store manager. What an embarrassment. I can only imagine what would have happened if I tried to pay with my phone - panic in the shop? It would take me 5 minutes to explain what I did. It's nice to see contactless payments being accepted in more and more places, but in most cases the staff has no idea what is going on. I even had it in McDonald's once.

I've been trying.
The registration page in My Barclaycard asks for phone number and SIM serial number. It expects a SIM serial number that is 19 digits. The number written on my T-Mobile SIM is 12 digits. I contacted T-Mobile and they gave me my full serial number - 20 digits. So now it is too long. The best they could suggest was dropping the last zero. It didn't work. So I still can't link my Barclaycard to a contactless account.
Even if I managed to do any of this, I still wouldn't have the necessary app that comes pre-installed on the Samsung Tocco Quick Tap from Orange. So I wouldn't be able to do anything with the account. Maybe it is possible to port the app from that phone onto the Nexus.
Are all Orange SIM numbers 19 digits? I guess the Barclaycard/Orange Quick Tap thing really does only work with Orange.
Ok, so received an email from the android bug tracker saying that it's going to get resolved in the next software update \o/

I believe the government want it at the very least commonplace throughout London ready for the 2012 Olympics. But I don't have a link for where I read that.
Looking to leave Sprint and go with a Galaxy Nexus and use it with Straight Talk (on T-Mobile's network). I was going to buy online but now i'm thinking about buying locally due to time constraints.
Just wondering if the Google Play GNexus is the same as an International version that many are advertising on craigslist. Is there anyway to verify as well?
Yes. The only variation is the NTT DoCoMo version from Japan. It's a bit different than others, but by in large, the unlocked GNEX is the same everywhere, including directly from Google. Of course we don't know what you are looking at on Craigslist, so it's really a guess, but it's likely the same as what's sold everywhere else.
Exact same with 99.9% same software. The only difference is that it has Google Wallet pre-loaded on it. And you get a full US warranty.
Otherwise, it's the exact same. Unlocked (pentaband), unbranded, etc..
ah, never thought about the wararnty. i guess i'll be getting it from Expansys USA then. Thanks

Not quite exactly the same. The one's sold by Google on the Play Store seem to have a bootloader that does not wipe when unlocked, compared to non-Play Store devices.

Seen threads on this. Fully confirmed? If so, still has no real-world effect on the use of the device compared to international i9250 models.

Fully confirmed that it exists. What's not confirmed yet is whether it is a hardware or software issue.
You're right, no material real-world effect, but the OP was asking for differences, and given that may be a hardware difference, I thought I'd throw it out there.

i guess looking at the expansys listing, it doesn't say anything about a US warranty but rather their own 1 year warranty.
I got mine from Expansys USA and it came loaded with the yakju ROM <- which means it's actually the european phone. But no worries, all you do is download and flash the takju ROM and it will be exactly like the Google Play store phones. (only difference is google wallet anyways)

No, not an issue. You still end up doing a factory data reset on the phone through CWM whenever installing a new ROM.
It's just nice that the bootloader doesn't wipe the phone if you've been using the phone for a while and can't back anything up without root ... which usually requires an unlocked bootloader if no exploit is available. Did you get all that? I tried to make it as confusing as possible; as you can see. <

They just act as a middle man for a European warranty. They take the phone, send to Europe, Samsung fix it, send it back, send it back. Takes longer and requires Expansys to be in the middle. If its not that much more expensive, I'd order from Google Play personally.

Hmmm, I'd be wary of someone selling a few days used GNex - from what I've read on this forum some of them are lemons. Why isn't the guy just returning it to Google for a refund?

Screen color issues and some phones are just generally buggy. Various people have reported having issues with their GNex until they get it replaced with one that isn't buggy.

Sadly this is the danger of buying phones via eBay and other online auction sites.
My advice is to file a dispute with PayPal (please tell us you paid via PayPal) to recover you money. Take the handset to your local police station and inform them of the situation and ask for a reference number, use this as your PayPal proof.
You will get your money back via PayPal and if the police cannot trace the original owner you should also be entitled to the handset if it was reported as lost, not stolen.
AFAIK IMEI bans cannot be reversed normally.
Always ask the seller of handsets on eBay for the IMEI so you can check that against blacklists. If the seller will not provide it, its stolen.
You can verify the info sellers provide using this service --> http://www.checkmend.com/uk/
Sadly thats all the advice we can offer. Talk and discussions on how to circumvent IMEI bans and changing of IMEI's is strictly prohibited and illegal in many countries.

Hi guys! first, thanks for your time.
I'm going crazy finding unlock code for my HTC One X.
I bought it on December 2012, from Personal (Telecom) Argentina.
I tried almost all the Ebay publications an all claim to don't have the unlock code.
I tried also, some pages too. I don't have any problem to pay for "fresh db" or something but I'm traveling out of my country in 1 month, and I need the unlock code in order to use local company from the other country.
Anyone know a VERY good page for unlock?
Thanks again for your time, and hope you all have a nice day.

Thanks for the quick reply guys.
My provider will give me the unlock code when the contract ends (in 1 more year).
I unlocked a lots of cellphones for friends, via ebay. But I don0t understand why nobody got the un lock code for my imei.
PD: I'm not asking for a software or rom for sim-unlock. Just good unlock pages to try (where you pay for the code).
Thanks again hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Here in New York City can buy them Unlocked Pixel. Google open a new store (Like Apple store) in Spring St but its all sold out.
They found a way to unlock the bootoader for Verizon, so it's only a matter of time where you can buy them from any retailer. However the exploit will only last so long....
