Need help unbricking/restoring phone - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

i have the droid incredible 2 and i bricked it
i can turn it on and the white screen with the green htc lettering comes up and then it just plays the cyanogenmod 7 load screen in a loop, please help me out, if you can provide dumbed down instructions that would be great
edit: UNBRICKED IT WOOT
edit 2: however now when i try to activate it i cant enter the 4 digit pass code because there are no dial keys while making a call, so i still need help :/

You should be able to long press the settings key and that normally brings it up.

If you backed up before you flashed cm7, then you can just restore your backup. Otherwise, you'd have to flash an ruu and lose stuff... Or there's always andyBONESTOCK.

That's what I would suggest. Also I have only seen one true brick in my experience, and I've rooted close to a dozen different android phones between my own and friends.
After I rooted my friends galaxy s, I told him to wait before he installs any roms since there were multiple carriers with that phone. He installed a rom later that night that was for another carrier. Obviously the phone would not work properly. So I gave him the instructions on how to fix it (go back to completely stock since he didn't make a backup). while flash through Odin (I think that's what it was, well whatever correct program is called) the usb cord came unplugged half way through the flash.
He had a true brick. After that it wouldn't even power up. It was nothing more than a paperweight, or in this case, a brick.

Request for Virgin Mobile Stock

Hello all,
So I bought my HTC Wildfire S Virgin Mobile on black friday like everybody else. I waited a few days and then rooted. And then I had the brilliant idea to try installing the CM 7.1 Mod for it. And well, I didn't do a Clockwork Backup, and well, it didnt work very well. The phone got stuck on the HTC screen. So finally I installed a different ROM, JikantaruROM, and I managed to get past the bootscreen but I can't use my carrier anymore. So I was wondering if anybody could either tell me how to flash CM 7.1 Unoffical release to my phone, or if anybody knew a way I could get back to the original Virgin Mobile software. It seems that you have all the other stock roms, so I would REALLY appreciate if someone could share the Virgin Mobile rom too.
Thanks in advance,
Wieland959
Seconded. Although I think mine is in a slightly worse case; I kept flashing roms and ended up in a state where it turns on, screen remains black, then the phone vibrates three times and evidently does nothing. So Wieland959, I'd advise you to stop flashing until someone posts the ROM.
And if someone could let me know how to recover from my current state, I'd very much appreciate it.

Your in the same boat I was just in. My solution was to go back to radioshack with the receipt and tell them it just turned off and wouldnt turn back on. Just doing the 3 vibrations. I did spend hours trying to search about how to fix it, but I dont think theres a way unless you use a jtag hookup and some sort of fancy programmer.
@Wieland959, If you want. I just tried to do the OTA update through the settings on the phone itself. It would let me download the file(I believe it should be flashable through the cwm recovery), but when I tried to let the phone install the file, I would get the android with the exclamation mark after the reboot. Ill try to post here, if it will upload. But......
DISCLAIMER!!!!
I take no responsibility for anyone damaging their phone using the file here. This file, as far as I know, should only work with the Wildfire S Virgin Mobile USA CDMA model A510C as this is the phone the file was downloaded from.
Thank you for the file, but I couldn't flash it. What might work though, if you are willing is, if you have rooted your phone, to make a cwm backup and upload that here. From there I should be able to recover and then factory wipe my phone. But thank you anyways for the file. I will keep kicking until the phone doesn't boot.
How are you planning on restoring from backup if the phone doesn't even boot?
Sorry, I'm new to this...

from the recovery, by holding down the vol down button and power button. then select recovery.
also, im in the same boat as OP haha
Okay. I managed to boot my phone and am able to send/receive texts. The rom I used? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1367701] It seems to work pretty well. However, I would still like to have the original rom if someone could still upload it.
VM USA Stock Clockwork Backup
Well, I don't know much about stuff like this, but here is my clockwork mod recovery backup. It's just the stock VM USA w/HTC Sense. I have realized that I deleted the bloatware, so that's the only thing that isn't 100% stock. Hope it helps.
*Unzip the file before placing on you sd card. (Contains the clockwork folder, which contains the backup folder, and then the folder that contains the backup itself.)*

Is this a good rom? I'm looking for some senseless roms that will work with our version of the WFS. will you post if you are able to go back to the Stock Virgin backup that I have posted? Also how much memory is on the rom that you posted?
With the a2sd enabled, you get 150 to 175. It's nice.

Nevermind I figured out the problem. Ok. Just one question is there anyway I can get the nice clock back from the stock ROM?
Is anybody else having mms issues with the experimental ROM?

Thanks for the backup! It worked perfect for me!
would you mind if i posted the link on another forum? i know of a couple people looking for a backup aswell.
You should be able to switch back with the recovery no problem. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to install boot into recovery, install from SD, select specific, and select the zip of the rom. Also, I don't have my phone on me so the wording might be a little different.
MMS is a known issue with the rom from what I've read. I don't have it installed personally.
@brandonhun, Thank you so much. You're a life saver. As far as the rom goes, it still have sense on it and there are tons of MMS errors. So just wait and eventually something will pop up.

I haven't done this ROM change but if its the stock HTC Sense go to personalize and get HTC widgets (perhaps its get more HTC widgets) and you should find an update to the clock widget. That should give you the original clock plus a bunch more new ones.

[Q] Unroot to Transfer number?

Does anyone know if we need to Unroot this phone before we can transfer a number on to it?
I bought the new HTC EVO LTE and I want to give this phone to my daughter who has a Samsung Moment (still). I will unroot if I have to but just wondered if anyone already knew or tried this.

Historically yes. On my Evo 4g and Hero they had to be running stock for sprint to change the number. Unsure on E4GT but better to take it in unrooted just to be "safe".
You'd probably be OK as long as its on something stock touchwiz even if its rooted.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
No you don't need to unroot if you do it yourself. Make sure both phones are turned off and the "new" phone has had a factory reset done beforehand. You can do it yourself online on sprint's site if you log into your account. If you have problems, you can get online chat with customer service too. Don't tell them that anything is rooted and don't act like you know a thing or two about phones. It shouldn't be a problem as long as you are on a mostly stock gb rom. This is in case they need to tell you to enter a code in the dialer screen to do a reset or change primary or secondary phone numbers or other misc things. No sweat.
Ok, here's the thing. I dropped my SGS2 into a drink. it was 99% covered. pulled the battery dried it off and it was buggy for 2 days but now every thing appears to be ok.
except it won't let me Factory reset/wipe data.
the option is there but when I select it, the phone just boots me out to the previous screen.
it does let me wipe the cache...
I even re-installed the Recovery and tried again.
side note: after the drink incident the yellow triangle went away on it's own.
Download an app called "Get My MSL", and write down the 6 digit code that app kicks out.
In the dialer enter ##786#, and this will take you to the reset screen. Hit menu, then reset, and enter in the MSL code they gave you. This will do the same as a data wipe / cache wipe, but will also clear your NVRAM, which is where your programming info is stored.
You can perform the device swap on your own on Sprint's website.
You will never need to unroot your phone.
No unroot needed like others have told you but you just need to be on a stock rom so that the ## codes will work when you are prompted to use them. Other than that you will be fine I have done it a million times online and never unrooted to swap esn

Why mobile odin and then flashing el26cwm is simple and agat has made it pretty easy to get his nicely themed stock rom working on your phone. Hey do whats safe for you but I would say most are on custom roms in here especially with the loads of choices now out there for us.
"To each his own though"

[Q] To Root or not Root?

let me give you some background info. I have owned my (AT&T) glide for less than a month coming from a overclocked milestone with CM7. Almost everyday I turn my computer on I go to XDA and skim over the rooting guides and the custom roms available. And then I read the "Read Before Updating" thread that says ICS is coming and it puts me off again. Even though my phone is unlocked and outside of the US now, so I not 100% certain I'll get anything. Every day I also check for updates on my phone, force check and everything.
So my question to you guys is this: Shall I patiently continue to wait it out in the fruitless hope something may well happen in the next month or two or bite the bullet and loose the bloatware now? I'm sure its a question on the minds of many glide owners right now
I put CWM + Osimood on mine just to get rid of the US-Centric bloatware, and am liking the cleanness of it. As you're in the UK too one thing you might sway you is that Osimood is based on Rogers which allows you to switch off 4G to save battery.
Why wait? Once it's out, it's pretty good chance it will be available here (or samfirmware). If you waited, would you even be able to get the AT&T OTA update through your UK operator? I would think you'd have to be on the AT&T home network to get the OTA.
But then again, it would take Samsung forever to finally get the ICS out for the CG.

Agreed since you are not in the States and on the AT&T Network I would Root and install a clean Rom with no BLoatware. Then when we get the ICS you simply flash it.
Thanks for the replies guys
When I check for an update it does say it checks the AT&T server, whether its actually checking the AT&T server or its just a generic message and it actually checks my provider server who knows.
Think I'm going to bit the bullet and get it rooted today
Go for it! There's so much more you can do when you're rooted. I'll never go back.

More than likely both
Just rooted it now, (well halfway there) seemed pretty easy to do, at least easier than my last phone.
when you flash the rom over you you do it in PDA section too or another option?
Just gonna download super user, ti backup, and a few other root only apps, have a quick play then flash to something else

If you did Clock work mod the instructions are:
1. Launch odin (v1.82 tested)
2. Boot your phone in "Download mode"
3. Select PDA in odin and choose the file "CWMR_recovery.tar.md5"
4. ONLY "auto reboot" must be check !!
Then just put aradat's kernel via CWM and your rooted. That is what I started with. Now I just flash everything with CWM and no longer touch Odin.
Right all fully rooted up.
In CWM it asks what device and only gives the choice of epic 4g and i9000 I tried the later and attempted to back up my current Rom and got and explanation mark in a triangle and a droid on my screen. not much happened for a few mins so i pulled the battery and rebooted it.
Any idea which I should select?
Thanks for all the help BTW

Where does it ask you that? I did not get any prompts. I just went to flash from SD card and then chose the file I wanted to flash. Took a few minutes then the flash was complete and on reboot it took a little while in setting everything up and then I got the Google prompt for an account to use. Oh and if you say thanks feel free to use the thank you button.
Probably talking about the CW App on the Market (not supported, don't use it!)
Sorry for confusing you, not in recovery, in Rom manager.
Ive actually put mine down now and just spent the last few hours trying to root my girlfriend's HTC Sensation, which has been a bit more long winded.
Nice gl have fun!

[Q] Sprint Galaxy S III Rooted/Installed ROM... Now won't power on. Help!

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for a little help today.
I rooted my new Sprint Galaxy S III using Odin3-v3.04, and CWM_SuperUser_v3.0.7. Afterwards I rebooted and all was good.
I then downloaded I9300_Omega_v6.0_XXALF6 ROM and loaded on my phone and rebooted into recovery to install the ROM. I went through the install process, selected remove bloatware and installed. When finished I checked the reboot phone and clicked finish. The phone turned off and didn't ever turn back on.
I have pulled the battery and tried to power on using recovery, download mode and just power but nothing works.
Anyone have any idea what I can do?
Thank you for your time and help.

New phone on the way!
I was able to get a replacement sent from Sprint. Had to go to a corporate store and have a tech look at the phone and they agreed it was toast...
Luckily they didn't know it was due to my failed attempt to load an unsupported ROM.
Lesson learned... new phone should be in by the end of the week.
I'll be waiting for a supported ROM this time.

What happened is that you flashed a rom that was meant for the international version of the S3 and your on the US version. The only fix I have found is to send it to mobiletechvideos.com. I did and they say they can fix it and maybe save my data I have on it ( I just sent it in)
My fingers are crossed for the data recovery but as far as the phone I am going to send it for a exchange anyway.
Welp, I'm sad to say I just did the same thing too. Should have read. I'm a stinkin noob at this. I installed the I9300 version on a US version phone. Has there been any more development on this? Is the hardware fried, or is there a fix through that mobiletechvideos.com that was mentioned? What was the outcome of that, Taygutta, if you don't mind me re-bringing back up a potentially painful topic?? This thread made me a little sick, since it's my brother's new phone (someone else that knew what they were doing rooted it for him but he didn't like the rom, so I thought I would help him find a few other options to try flashing.)
Anyway, any confirmation that I'm buying my brother a new phone (so I can emotionally prepare for the purchase) or are there some other options?
There's one more thing you can try. There's a little device called a USB Jig. It was made for SGS-2 to clear the yellow triangle and reset flash counts in ODIN mode. It also puts your phone in ODIN mode by simply plugging it into the USB port of a powered down phone. Once in ODIN mode, you can reflash a stock ROM, recovery, etc. You can buy these for around $20 or less on the web.
If this does not work, I'm afraid nothing will.
Good luck.

[Q] Volume Down + Power = no bootloading screen?

Sprint Evo 4g Supersonic will not load my boot screen. Im not sure what is going on I do know that one of my phones is stock and the other is a rooted phone. What the hell is going on. Im not a noob to root FYI. I build gaming rigs and other computer related issues I can solve fairly easy. However, this is getting under my skin because I want to UNROOT so i can activate service on the one phone and then Root it again back to where I had it. The other phone that is Stock RUU sprint is having the same issue. For the love of God I just want to be able to unlock my stock and root! Awaiting a sound answer to my question and I do hope I posted this in the right catagory of the forums because I saw nothing of this issue for Supersonic RUU EVO 4G. Thanks!
So holding power and volume down at startup doesnt bring up the bootloader screen correct?
I know this may sound obvious, but power off the phone, pull out the battery, put it back in, then try again.
Did you make sure that Fastboot was disabled in your phone's Settings? Cuz that will keep it from booting into your bootloader

You don't need to unroot to activate a phone.
Thanks for the suggestions I already had it off fastboot and I took the battery out and swapped with another one and it worked fine after. Its been a while since I messed with my phones technically.

Captain,
other then the obvious "thanks" Sprint is the one that messed my rooted phones network when changing phone numbers. if I remember correctly its stuck on "Hands Free Activation" continually having the icon circle and "contacting the network" times out and I get code 1012. I can cancel this and use the phone just no service. I went back to a stock rom to do this in order to add a line and switch numbers on both evo 4g supersonics. the rooted failed connection and sprint stock is now my phone. I am going to root this one since it has hboot 2.16 but I have to downgrade windows 8 to 7 ultimate first. NOTHING is compatible with that OS... yet anyways. I will check out your methods as well. I was looking for a forum that would be able to explaine how to activate a rooted phone. Ill get back to you if I have an issue! Thanks

Capt. Throwback,
If you wouldn't mind please email me specifically how to bring my phone in. Unless OTA ROOT APP works I need to know in order to restore the phone to its line. In forum mail is ok to reach me at. Thanks.

I have the same problem with being unable to bring up the Bootloader Screen.
So I tried to follow your advice, but I don't see how to disable Fastboot.
I don't know how it was enabled in the first place. I certainly was smart enough to do it.
I went to 'Settings' but see nothing related to Fastboot. Where can it be found?
If this is a common problem, wouldn't it be a good idea to address it in the instructions?

Usually, it is in menu/settings/apps depending on what rom you are on.
I'm on Decks Reloaded and I think it is disabled by default, therefore, no option to enable it.
