I've had my Desire for a good 18 months now. I'm a relatively medium-light user, so sometimes I can still squeeze two days worth of use out of a single charge. I've also recently flashed my first non-Sense rom (Mildwild 2.X), which has provided a small boost of battery mileage.
Despite this, I've been considering buying a replacement battery (though I have no idea where to buy one in Canada), since I want to stick to with my Desire for at least another year (it does everything I want it to do, and it's quite snappy while doing it too, so why upgrade?).
So how's your battery holding up for you? Do you have a second battery? If not, are you considering purchasing one?
Sounds like I've had my Desire a little longer than you, but I wouldn't ever trust it for an overnight trip without my charger. I bought a new battery via Amazon with a higher mA, but it didn't make much difference. I did try the re-charge trick (search on this forum for details), which did make a difference of several hours in my case.
Frankly, I'm just waiting for something better to come along, but so far I've seen nothing I prefer to the Desire.
chuk
Have my desire 24 months, no problems detected with the battery. In my case it have 50% after daily use. Not less with the time.

I can squeeze about 40hrs when in good reception area too. Mine is ~16 months old. I saw a oem battery at a provider's store, so I'm contemplating about getting one just in case as I don't know when I'll be buying another device.
one day.. or little more...
mine is about the same age (17-18 months), and on my current ICS rom, I get about a day and a half out of the battery.
For me it Depends really on how I use my phone. I Charge ist every Night, and leave with 100 % Battery in the Morning.
I do have wifi on all the Time, use mobile Data Connection the whole Day and have my Display Set to Auto brightness. When i use it to make some calls, Write Messages and Check the time, i can get up to two and a half day's. With my normal Usage (Surfing the Web on my Way to work, or Flashing roms on the go, i get a half Day.
I Don't have a Second Battery, as i am able to Charge my phone at work or at home, and when i know i'm going to stay Out longer, i use my phone less. So all in all i'm quiet happy with the desire, but could allways be better
Actually if you are careful (and with a proper kernel) you can get more than double the battery life you got when it was new. For example , I get anywhere from 70 to 110 hours now, depending on talking ,and wifi usage,
but I have every radio option off (data, GPS , wifi, Bluetooth e.t.c.) including sync off which made a difference. I also use flight mode when I go to sleep (which also makes it guilt free to have the phone next to me ), and that's it.
100 hours achieved , on an almost 2 year old battery
Of course , when really using the phone , i.e. playing music to the car while using Navigation and talking through a bluetooth headset in between... It's lucky to last 4-6 hours
My desire should also be around 18 months old.
The battery is lasting somewhere between
1,5 days (some wifi usage, music)
and
2,5 days (occasionally wifi, most of the time only standby).
Had my Desire for 22 months and the battery is as good as ever.
My desire is on charger every night.. im supose that im uding it so much... when i give free time to phone, battery csn least 2-3 days.

3-4 hours.
Had my Desire for about 18 months and the battery lasts pretty much this same if not longer(with the awesome Runnymede AIO). It lasts about 6-8 hours of heavy use, if I'm not using it much it lasts more than 24h.
Uhmm.. Everyday I charge it I think all of us have a huge problem with all android smartphones because it dry the battery!
But I think that problem are in all android phones.
I also get about 6-8 hours with heavy use (Runnymead AIO). But can get it to last a whole weekend when i go away camping. I am going to try the recharging trick also
10 hours worth of music

The problem is in technology and materials used. Year 1999 we had 900mAh batteries with 3 row bicolor screens where you could grow a beard between charging cycles. Year 2010 we had 1400mAh batteries with 3.7" screens, 1GHz cpus and plethora of other circuitry. So it has nothing to do with android per se.
SwiftKeyed from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk.
2 Years old Desire.
Medium user.
Battery can hold 12 to 15 hours.
Mine is 21 months old and I consider myself medium to heavy user (I charge it every night, you know, just in case ) and I can't notice any real change in battery life. If I go easy on it (it happens very rarely), it lasts 3-4 days.
Using my Desire for about 22 month now and the battery is still perfect. I couldn't notice any differences so far. With moderate use up to two days.

Hey guys,
Can anybody tell me how good is the battery life of the one x compared to the GNex? I would like to switch but I'm concerned that the phone won't make it trough the day. With my GNex I get around 3 hours of screen-on time. Would this be possible with the one x?

Dutch review stated the phone lasts almost 2 full days with normal use on the 1.27 software with 38% battery left. On a different test they used the phone for 16 hours intensive and they did 7+ hours of screen on time with 38% left.
With the 1.26 software these times are a lot shorter but I read the 1.27 update should be here within the next few days.
With the 1.27 software they say it's one of the best battery times ever on a smartphone.

I really struggle to believe some of these reviews - the battery seems far too small to manage these - I'll believe it when I see it haha

Omg that sounds great! Can't wait for it.
The version which is used right now is by far not completed and kind of unstable, so I do believe that 1.27 should fix a lot of things.
My SGS2 did 30 hours yesterday starting with 85% battery with medium use (loads of browsing though) while it lasted under a day without software 'tuning' with just a 1950mAh battery and even made 40+ hours a few times.
So why could a better designed phone not make these numbers? Standby times are extremely long with underclocking and undervolting and the One X goes down to 52mhz in sleep, half the speed my SGS2 will drop to.
It's all about the kernel and governor to use just enough energy for the tasks ahead.

Basic core is the smaller 5th core and the other cores will only be activated when needed, this saves a lot of power. They are not even activated all at once so basically it only drains quickly with full power gaming.

...say HTC.
It can all be found here at techradar.phones
Well what do you guys think? Are you satisfied by the battery considering the HOX's demanding setup? Mine lasts around ten hours with moderate to heavy use. Which is similar to my last phone, the SGS i9000. I found this quite acceptable.
HTC are a very reputable company, and often listen to their consumers (hence HTCdev). Is this latest move a shy away from that?
Would be great to hear everyones thoughts.

I consider the battery usage as a real annoying problem with no option to buy extra batteries.
Who buys a smartphone to use as less as possible???

Happy here with battery life of One X, battery is even better than it was in SGS2. For me at least. Around ~36h battery time while SGS2 ~30 hours when I was using it.
Gawwd why do people expect something with the resolution of a tv, and the same amount of cores of a high end pc, to not take much battery? I think its a bloody miracle these smartphones last longer than 5 minutes! As I've said before, you wouldn't expect a supercar to be economical?
Plus, the battery is an improvement to my dhd , so that is another miracle, considering the extra horsepower behind the one x

Where's the like button? I really do wonder what people expect. Get a Motorola if you want the battery to last you for a week.
More than happy with the battery life of the handset. Lasts me from when I leave home in the morning till when I get home at night and then some. Beats having to charge my phone during the day like on my DHD.
People need to get used to charging their phone every night, really don't understand people's issues with that. What's the big deal?

Why would they? It's fine.
To all the "glass half empty" whining types. You guys do know these things charge from USBs right. I got a great solution; plug it in when its running low.
Besides, the battery life is staggeringly good if you think about it. Mine lasts 2 days for simple calling and texting here and there and a whole day for quite heavy usage, browsing, YouTube, calls and so on. 18hours total, 4-4.5 hours screen on, 40/50mb data and 1.5 hours of calls yesterday, put it away at 1%, still not dead 2 hours of standby later.
Mine's OK, not great. I really didn't expect it to be. It'll be interesting to see how the S4 One XL does now that it's shipping. If it's about the same (with LTE off) than it's not a Teg3 issue. If it's dramatically better than we know it's not the display alone causing battery challenges.
I think that no update coming anytime soon is acceptable but no update AT ALL?
Im sorry but f*** that! Why can't they focus abit on the battery, some simple things would be to have less CRAP and bloatware, maybe if they could release 2 versions 1. simplified with the sense camera ONLY and rest ICS and the other with the full sense package that is really no necessary.
The most important thing to remember is that this a a PHONE to make calls and for that it works nicely and the battery lasts if you keep the screen off most of the time, but for a phone like this that was made to do more things I think you need to at the very least have a battery or a software symbiosis that can last for 8,9 hours of screen time.
Its Tegra 3 for f*** sake! With the super-dupe-triple-super-important-kill core2dou like nothing-quad-core-and a dedicated 5 companion core THAT IS SUPPOSE TO DELIVER KILLER BATTERY LIFE.
What is the problem?
I think there is simply too much Sense on the phone, too many uneceassy widgets and other crap that run in the background (oh you can flash cusom rom bla bla, you can freeze services with Titanium backup bla bla, but what if I want to use a stock rom?) bull**** I say, wih such and advanced CPU and memory and so on I do not see why you cannot have better battery life.
My Samsung Galaxy S2 can work for up to 3 days (ok it has a AMOLED ok ok but still, touchwhiz seems to not over run ICS) On stock ICS. Why? Because they have less 'painted over ICS functions that almost makes it run 2 OS's at the same time so maybe its no wonder the battery gets chewed up by all the sense applications.
This just my opinion from observing the phone and all the fanzy sense stuff after a week.
I believe this phone could be better in terms of software (without a doubt).
One thing they have to adress is the camera, why cant the image files be bigger than 2.9 megapixels? This is so stupid considering it has an 8 mpx camera... Also the full HD and 720p records in the latest firmware 1.28xx at approximately 24 fps and it should be 29 or 30. My Asus Prime records at a steady 30 fps at 1080p and 720p and its running Tegra 3 too.
They MUST at some point focus on battery life because if you dont have the juice to run all those fanzy apps and UI then why are they there in the first place?
I LOVE the weather graphics but I could live without it too (If I absolutely HAVE to....) the only thing necessary is the camera sense app because its the only thing that makes the phone unique and very fun and nice (but again whats the point without proper battery life?)
I hope HTC continues to work on making this one of the best first quad-core phone.
Another thing I noticed with SetCpu is that the phone is very high frequencies very frequently, if you install it and use the phone for a day you will see the graph scale, it uses 1.4 abut 40% of the time, but why? I never played games during this period or anything.
Im gonna keep my 1X because I love it and I believe in it and in the HTCdevs if they cant just be more positive perhaps
Cheers!

4-4.5 hrs screen on isn't typical usage that the majority are getting though. Closer to 3 hrs.
It's easier to be quick to judge others when your own device defies the norm for the better.
If you were struggling to get 2.5 hrs , I doubt you'd be as chirpy about it all.
Two words that will help battery life without HTC - "custom kernels"
If you need to see the difference they make just ask in one of faux's threads, e.g. in the Sensation dev forum.
did the update improve the batterie life and if so , does the HOX still run as fast or did things low down ?
Pretty much echo the below , i have had an sgs2 and have an xperia s and this phone with its companion core is at least 33% worse on battery than both of these, and the processor is supposed to be more efficient . The display excuse won't wash much as the xperia s display is at least as bright/power hungry if not more .
I would love to see the exchange / return rates on this handset due to it not living up to its hype , let alone the fault rates.
And i am not whining, i upgraded to one, i like it , i will keep it and maybe one day learn to root it and replace the rom, but lets not kid ourselves its just not a finished polished product in terms of software !
thats my 2p, thanks for reading

Okay so I presume all of you one X power users have noticed a the horrible battery performance. Since I flashed the Revolution HD I got excellent battery performance. Without doing too much stuff (just calling and texting), battery remains > 50% at the end of the day. I would really recommend that rom.
I've just flashed it, going to see how it goes. But I would've expected HTC to bang a beast of a battery for the beast of a processor and massive screen its gotta run. Oh well, still early days, hopefully we'll see massive software improvements.

Not really, no. Personally I did not unlock device, neither root it, neither installed any fix. And I must say that I'm more happy with battery life than I was with my previous phone SGS2. More then 16 hours here with 4 accounts synchronization on, 3g/wifi on, and sometimes gps + music on (for Endomondo). I'm really happy with my One X.
ARHD Rom, auto-brightness, plain wallpaper, no haptic feedback, no roaming, managing syncing, and a few other tweaks will leave this devices battery life as one of the best.

I try to use as much as I can the first few days, and time it so that you have about 10-30% charge left when you reach home from work/school and then I let it charge overnight.

Have been seriously contemplating getting the One X.
My first choice had been the Galaxy S3..... but the One X seems the better choice.... I have had the iPhone 4 for almost 2 years, so now it's almost upgrade time If the Galaxy S3 had no physical home button I would be taking it.
Had been worried about the battery life of the one x but after reading these and a few others it seems worth it and it's available in black (dark grey but darker than S3 metallic blue)
I Just hope I don't have issues with app incompatibility for the apps I use on iPhone.
With normal usgae, I've got more than 10 hours after one charge. Not so happy with it but it's good enough for me.

I've turned everything off and left my phone on idle, my battery issue has persisted for over 6 months now (I bought it in Singapore on release day). With screen on min brightness, static wallpaper, most apps off, my battery drains fully within 6 hours. If I actually do anything with it like make phonecalls, it drains in hours. The battery phone is constantly hot, when on charge It's almost too hot to hold. If while on charge (AC) I use it to make a call, it complains that it's not receiving enough power. Should I look to get a replacement from HTC? I'm still using stock rom so it should be covered under warranty?
Sounds like the htc amaze battery overheat..
Also get gsam battery app.. it will tell you what apps are using what % of battery.
I also use advanced task manager from play store.. it proved to me how much gmaps Facebook and other bloat was ALWAYS RUNNING!.. I got root and froze it all with big improvements
Some of us who htc amaze w no warranty bought a new battery and that fixed it

Aside from your time travel/exaggeration, I suggest better battery stats, finding out what is causing wake lock, and killing.it.
Your phone is fine, but you have some crapware on it.
I´ve just moved from th GS2 to the HOX and even though I had read reports about the battery not being so good I was really surprised at how bad it is! I mean with the GS2 I would watch about 1 hours of videos, navigate a little bit, check my calendar several times and talk a couple of times and I would get home at the end of the day with about 80% full batt...I do the same with the HOX and it´s almost half that! Plus it takes forever to charge when compared to the GS2, GS1 and the Atrix. Is it really that bad or is my unit faulty? Is there a mod or an update that can probably address this?
If you used to get all of that use out of 20% of your sgs2 battery, you probably had a really good sgs2 because I could never achieve anything like that.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
So you just got it and reporting a bad battery after a first charge probably? Use it more and report again then...
Well I´ve had several other smartphones that didn´t have this issue after I "just got them".
I think you GS2 is incredible
Cycle the batt
The hox has wayyy better batt life than any samsung
I don't miss the 3% increase an hour it took for any samsung to charge once they are dead forget about getting a fast charge may as well have a spare charged n ready or how about the can not use camera bs!! because the battery is to low... to function the cam
Lol all that crap is history.
Charge the phone with data toggled off
Set screen to 15sec time out
I'm getting 15-16 hrs out of mine on heavy use

I came from the SGS2 which was running VillainRom with an underclocked CPU with under volt. (Auto Brightness)
.... and my stock HOX gives better battery life whilst having a much brighter default auto brightness.
Under my usage, I would never get over 3:xxhrs screen on time, so if you used 100% brightness, you can probably half that.
Also regarding streaming (as I do a lot of it), my ex SGS2 would die after around 6hrs whereas the HOX can do 9+hrs, ive tested these thoroughly.
So, I really don't understand this thread.

I must have faulty unit then because I really don´t see it. I´ve used the GS2 for an year and the battery was supperb. And I had the screen set for maximum light ALL THE TIME.

Remember that you have a li-po battery in the HOX ... you need some charging cycles to get the full performance of the battery

Thanks. I didn´t know that. I will work on it.
HOX= HTC One X ??? how long can batt use??
Well even me coming from the SGS2 I can say it had the better battery life with an extended battery. Could easily get 4-6 screen on time on various things. HOX is fine but not as good as SGS2 with extended battery.
Currently in Turkey on roaming and idle time in this is quite excellent the 5th core works fine in idling.

My battery was ****e for the first week of having the phone. Can't complain now though, it definitely out performs my previous handset (Sensation XE)

@liberator 72 - What settings did you have for screen brightness? Was it auto or did you set it manually to a low value? I am asking as I can't get past 3h of screen time, about 10 days after I bought the One X.

Auto brightness. Pretty much standard stock setup with only a few of the bloatware apps disabled in the apps settings and haptic feedback turned off. All accounts setup to auto sync too! It took a good couple weeks for the battery to last that long but now on moderate use I can get 2 days out of it.

It's all about charge cycling the battery and adjusting settings
Sync off screen time out display background data etc....
It will get better my silver hox right now is new but I have a white hox that has awesome batt life

Not too shabby. Virtual constant use with WiFi and GPS both on.

If you want to be sure that you don't have a faulty battery you can always perform the HTC test , type *#*#3424#*#* in the phone and look for battery test.
Tried that got the O2 woman.

edit: working. I just have fat fingers.
Not really now
I used to get only 8 hours out of my HOX with it getting extremely hot. But then someone suggested me to perform the following steps in exactly this order.
1. Turn Wifi Off, set sleep mode to "always".
2. Turn 3G data On
3. Turn 3G Data Off
4. Turn WiFi back on
5. Close Maps, Gtalk and any other Google service when not using the same.
I am getting 48 hours on an average with 3 hour screen On time. I am On 1.28 Stock.
