[Q] Help! Can't get WIN 7 64bit to recognize my Epic 4g

I am trying to get my WIN 7 64 bit windows to recognize my Epic 4g. I cannot however find any drivers that actually work worth a darn. Any help would be highly appreciative

Did you check Samsung? Its in the support section

when installing the drivers. It'll say "failed," however its false. Also you need to make sure your using a MAIN usb port on your PC. (for desktops its the USB's next to internet adapter)

Happen to have a link to latest driver's? (not the samsung website)

Its sammy's tricky drivers sometimes they decide to work other times they make you go crazy!

It could b what I did wrong .... turn off usb debugging and than plug it in first (sounds stupid I know but it is what was frustrating me for an hr or so) the device won't self install drivers with it on

[Q] Somebody fluent in Linux, Want to help me out?

Just need some questions answered/ suggestions.
I have ubuntu 10.04 on my HP Pavillion DV6z, and it works.. but is very crippled. It took me to hell and back to get my screen to work.. even though it won't detect my monitor but displays and I get random graphical glitches. My internet won't work through a cable anymore... and is supper slow and unreliable. I had to frakenstien my wifi drivers to make wifi even partially work. I have the windows wireless drivers for linux installed, as well as some other official drivers for my RTL8189ce wifi card that I installed via terminal. My wifi drops and reconnects quite often even though my router is RIGHT next to me. My battery lasts at the most 3 and a half hours... its a high capacity 6-cell li-ion battery. It lasts 7 hours or so on Windows and windows is a battery hog... and uses 30% of my 6gb's of RAM... Ubuntu uses 7%.
Okay now to the suggestions/questions... will newer builds help? I tried 11.10 and it wouldn't get my screen to turn on but found out about using "nomodeset" at the bootscreen and it should work... then permanetly adding that to the boot kernel. Not certain but may work. Is there a flavor of linux that is very similar to windows... or to better put universally compatible with more windows pc's? I was going to try deving and learning code but don't even think its worth it with such a crippled laptop ='[. PLEASE help me... I'm tired of being stuck with windows... love me some linux.
Not to offend/discourage anyone from helping but googling and pasting me some links isn't going to cut it trust me I've spent days on trying to fix this... and it is what it is now because of that.
So I need some real pros or someone who's been through this type of ordeal... even tho I hear most don't even get such issues.
Specs:
AMD A8 3550-mx with Radeon HD 6220g [discrete class graphics]
6gbs of RAM
Windows 7 64 and ubuntu 10.04 64bit
560gb HDD 5400rpm.

Try LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition). It fixed aprosamurai's issues. After you install it and boot up, open terminal and run this
Sudo apt-get update
Sudo apt-get upgrade
And then reboot
Ubuntu is super picky about drivers and mint debian edition 'just works'. In my opinion, Ubuntu is on a downfall as an OS for developers and has become an OS geared toward kids who want a super simple UI for just using the internet. It doesn't even natively support a full root user and the UI is incredibly hard to multitask on.
Aprosamurai had a similar graphics card (ATI built in). I have an ATI dedicated.
You shouldn't have to run any other mods after installing LMDE and doing what I said.
Ubuntu is touchwiz, LMDE is AOSP

I wouldn't call myself fluent in Linux but I am familiar and do use it on occassion (my laptop is triple booted). Have you tried the Ubuntu forums? I have had some luck with them but in general I don't think their forums users are very helpful and often ass holes. I would also try linuxquestions.org if you insist on using Ubuntu. I find them much friendlier. I also echo the above. I haven't used mint yet but only read good things about it. As soon as I am done with these last few weeks of school I am going to be replacement Ubuntu with mint.

Awesome =]. So I can just burn an iso and install it over my current partition right? I can't put it on another parititon I have to many apparently... windows, recovery, and ubuntu. Even had to delete my "hptools" partition which was used for "bios upgrading" but just recently got an update from HP and my bios updated just as it should.... hp fail.

I would reformat the partition but when you boot up into the live cd I am sure it will give you the option to do so. Running the live cd first to make sure everything is working properly is always a good idea. If it isn't then you would want to hit up their forums and see if what is not working in your case is just a missing driver from the live cd and it would start working when you install it and update the OS or if there is something else going on.

I would delete the Ubuntu partition and make a new one for LMDE to get a fresh start.

So I'm installing mint and its asking for me to review the bootloader "install grub bootloader" is select for /dev/sda... is that where it goes? My partition is on sda4.

Just do what it recommends. Grub is the part where it asks windows or Linux so it should be on /dev/sda

Yep.. its working flawlessly the sound doesnt crackle like it did on ubuntu.... . Im very tempted to remove my windows partition altogether .. but i wont. one issue though everytime i go to the update manager and try to let it update to 1.5 it keeps sticking.. ? wont do anything and i have to force quit it. is it normal that it freezes and is it just me jumping the gun?

I don't use the manager. Apt-get upgrade should update everything you need. I have not yet updated to 1.5

hmm alright becuase i did that and i said that not everything could be downloaded and that it either is old or really couldnt connect to it.

I just got CM9 repo setup too ... lol. Its good practice thought!!

Right??? its working flawlessly and the battery is outstanding i start this project this morning at 9 and im still at 30% loving it.
Oh you might want to note that i didnt delete my current ubuntu partition i just installed it right over it.. i pretty sure gparted formats the disk prior anyways.. but whatever. If you need any help ask me/ here and im sure marcusant will have an answer .

Can't be done. The is a program if there was a .tar file but there isn't. Bootcamp is your only option. Or use a pc. Download everything on a flash drive walk in a best buy and do it on their computers haha.

Lol, yeah. It takes 5 mins tops to root. I been using vmware fusion for yrs now. Alot easier than bout camp cause it runs like an app.

Yeah, I was so quick to root I didn't even look, I just started follow the instructions. And it was rooted. Quickly. Quicker than I've ever done with Odin. So it absolutely works for the i317. But loading custom ROMs is a different story, considering most are tied to their carrier. I was using a T-Mobile ROM until I went back to stock AT&T Rom. It was horrible.

I can confirm the guide linked above works flawlessly. I just rooted my phone and my fiance's in about 10 minutes, including download and file transfer time. Highly recommend.

Note II won't connect to computer

Hey all,
My galaxy note 2 will not connect to my computer (Mac, mountain lion) at all.
Everytime I try I get the message from Android File Transfer saying "Could not connect device" "Try reconnecting or restarting device".
I have done this so many times but still won't work. The kies software does not work either.
Any advice or help would be appreciated. I should say though that when I first got the phone i was able to connect it to my computer. However, after I unlocked the sim that's when it stopped being able to connect. Not sure if this is related or not.

Mine won't connect unless I enable the Developer Options in settings.

Is Buying a Mac a Bad Idea for S3?

i'm thinking about buying a macbook air. and i want to know if i'll face issues with trying to connect my S3 to it via USB. i got ICS on it. if anyone here had issues trying to connect it to their s3 or found a solution in case i cant connect, please let me know. i want to connect via USB not wifi.. if its not possible to connect, then i wont buy a mac.

Airdroid works perfectly for me (I'm on Lion).

I'm on a mac and I just use air droid for everything. I like it better anyways. I also have windows in boot camp :good:

Noob question, where to get boot camp? I want to Odin my phone and can't with a mac so far.

so, with boot camp, i'm able to use windows-based programs on a mac? but i'm getting a macbook air.. how am i going to install a windows cd if the air doesnt have a disc drive? how can i work around this?
also, after i somehow install win xp on a mac, all i do is install the windows-based samsung drivers?

Lol everyone is just confused! MTP doesn't play nice with MAC but Google has their own software to read mtp on Macs. I've used it nicely with the nexus 4 on a Macbook pro
If you want to root and have software on the computer. Well you'll need to buy windows 7/8 and run it boot camp as Macs are not really Android hacking friendly

I say if you're getting a laptop get a Mac. Its easy to run windows on and build quality and design is better than all other laptops in my opinion. If you're getting a desktop get a PC you can build far better specs than any imac

2nd, if i get a macbook air and somehow install xp on it thru boot camp, are there any downsides to it?

i presently got a pc laptop thats almost 8 yrs old.. and it runs a bit laggy.. the battery overheats a bit and doesnt last long.. so i think its about time i get a mac. i just want to make sure i have no probs connecting it to my s3 thru boot camp.

Why macbook air..... if not pro I would go ultrabook

mba is my choice and i wont change.. i never use the optical drve

Mac osx is the problem with connecting the phone. I have no problems connecting the phone in boot camp. Go for it

I have MBP. aside from the magsafe adapter being a piece of garbage which the cord just fell out of the L connector I haven't been able to root Jellybean bc Odin doesn't work on Mac, Heimdall wont work with JB and terminal commands dont root on JB. so Windows or bootcamp,which I cant use atp because I have no boot discs for the drivers. Also Mountain Lion sucks. Does this answer your question?

You must completely remove Kies using the uninstaller to connect successfully via usb. This was my only remedy.

Boot camp is a program that is already on yiur Mac in utilities. You will need a copy of Windows for it to matter.

i'll look into it. but after mac boots up, will i be able to open up bootcamp and see xp there? or do i need to boot up xp as mac boots up?

and why cant you use windows in a mac exactly? is it cuz you dont have a windows CD?

You can boot into XP when the MBA is booting up (White screen before the apple logo shows up) by holding the Options key.
I don't have an answer to your other questions.

Don't buy apple. Over priced.
