BugMailer..? SOLVED / ANSWERED

Anyone knows what this is? It randomly asks permission to send out an email or sms. Baffled..
Edit: how to solve (posted by user gpierani) "" There is a file in /system/bin called bugmailer.sh if you rename it to something like bugmailer.sh-old then reboot it should stop ""

Need to bump this; anyone knows what it is? It looks like it's connected to taking a screen shot by Volume down + power button but not succeeding; this email request comes up then.

Yeah i am getting hat Sh IT too. According Tor Google its Part of androids source. But IT really pisses me off

Wtf.. I just found some info pointing towards that as well. Android source that sends bug reports to Google without authorisation..??

Yeah, I get this on the CDMA Nexus, too. Running Peter Alfonso's Bugless Beast 4.0.3 with his kernel. There is a bugreport binary and a bugmailer.sh that I'm thinking about renaming to prevent it from happening...

Also getting alot of these on CDMA Nexus with Peter Alfonso's Bugless Beast 4.0.3 and his included kernal. Just randomly popping up... 8\

yeah I have loads of these I tweeted Peter Alfonso and he said it will be sorted in the next Bugless Beast Nightly..

.. a quick follow on, you prob have loads of screen shots in your gallery too.
I ran a LogCat on my Galaxy Nexus Device (GSM), and can see before the dump begins it always happens right after the screen state gets set (*** Set_Screen_State 1)
I get usually all of my 'BugMailer' dumps when my phone is on the lock screen or being woken up!

This all Comes from a file called bugmailer.sh cant i just delete it?

I am also having this issue. By default, it wants to send the Bug Reports to my own email address, not very helpful. Has anyone figured out how to remove this? Or who at Google to send these to so we can annoy them with Reports until they figure out a solution?

Good idea, get a Google email address!

its just an automated bug reporting system. It doesn't send anything without authorization. I have seen this since running 4.0 sdk ports on my nexus s. What always pondered me was the emails it creates are from ME to ME which isn't reporting it to anyone who gives an ish

There is a file in /system/bin called bugmailer.sh if you rename it to something like bugmailer.sh-old then reboot it should stop

What/how is everyone renaming the file?
I tried the File Manager that came with the ICS Rom (i think its the open kang rom)
and it says "UNABLE TO RENAME".. then "UNABLE TO DELETE" I also tried 2 other file managers off the market but same results
Please what is the best way.. im really fed up of texting someone and it slows down taking a screenshot with personal information displayed then opening gmail with it.. then i look in my drafts every night to find 40+ drafts with bugs and lots of screenshots!

PS: If possible please give me a why removing it from the phone... my computer with the drivers on decided to die on me so i have no drivers to open the folders (lost the link so cant download to the laptop) If not possilbe (if have to do through comptuer) anyone have the link to download to laptop?

anti theft app that takes picture of assailant??

a friend of mine has this for iphone. basically, when an incorrect pin is entered on the lock screen the app displays a custom message the user inputs and uses the front facing camera to take a picture of the person who is using the phone! really cool. any idea if anything like this exists for droid?

it's not ICS ready yet, this feature works, but not under ICS, yet, the next update will fix it.

I emailed the dev and they emailed me a beta apk that works on ICS

Thanks for enlightening me about this super app! For just a few bucks you can remotely lock and wipe up to 5 phones, take pics, track the location on Gmaps etc. Simply amazing!

So....will the app automatically send the picture to your email or it requires you to select "auto upload to Google+"? I hope not the second option cuz I HATEEE the way Google+ not letting us deleting the uploaded pictures from our gallery.

I don't make a habit of complaining about permissions. But why do we basically have to give this app control of everything, Skynet style.

yes the pic will be send to your email that you wil enter there while settuping new account with them. it can be any email. i just tried myself..it the best thing i ever saw.

i know where is your question coming from - but i have to tell you that you would be surprised how many apps are accessing the same info as this one is. i dont wanna call names - but titanium back up - for example and much more. try LBE privacy guard and find out. almost all GAMELOFT games are asking for emei and even sms log or call log mate/location as well - so i think it will make no difference and if you wanna be able locate your device remotely or even make a pic you have to givea permision to the app providing such a service.
you have to live with it or not use the special "protection"

I loaded this and it works fine on my Galaxy Nexus. The only thing funny is that the pictures seem to be rotated 90 degrees clockwise from the way the phone was being held.

The version of cerberus I used with my GN has an option where the screen goes all white and then snaps a picture with the front camera as soon as the screen is touched.
I also setup Cerberus to email everything to an account that isn't setup on the phone so if the phone is gone, the person holding it can't delete the emails.

Any idea when the ICS version will come out officially?

Good stuff! I was looking for something like this! Another app you guys may want to try is an app that locks down your apps with a password or pattern. I havent installed one on my Gnex yet but I used one on my EVO (actually, come to think of it, it was native to MIUI).

[SOLVED] anyone get photosphere working

i got photosphere to open no fc on anything in the new 4.2 gallery/camera. but when i try to take a photosphere and turn my phone right to take the next pic it goes down instead. if i go left it goes up.
help would be awesome

lol! I have the same issue. It's hilariously frustrating trying to figure out which way it wants you to go and which way your phone wants to go. I'm running 2.16 ParanoidAndroid.

Ikr I wonder if any devs would look into it. Sooo frustrating taking pictures backwards.

ugh, i forgot to ask you guys... do you like the new camera better than the old and is it worth the update and changing the build prop over? (i know, besides the photosphere not working)

I personally love the new camera. Like how its the whole screen now. So far I love everything leaked from 4.2. Camera/keyboard/clock/email. I used them all Instead of the 4.1 version.
Back to what the thread is about. Is there any fixes out there or any devs working on a gyro fix?

It's not just JB. Photosphere does not work correctly on ICS either.

have the same problem here.. But recording using the front camera is working. only when Im recording using the back camera don't work.
however, my old camera still existing so i can live with it by now.

i have tested the standard panorama mode and done a little more testing and gyro does not seem to be the prob, axis are only switched in that mode

However video capture and recorded video playback all start, show a black background, and then force exit the app that attempted to run them. I have tried VLC nightly builds, gallery, and media player from ES File Explorer all with same issue.

I listened to MykalDre above, went and CWM flashed the update (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975379) in the first post there, Exit_Only calls it the "tweak update.zip"
I can now record video, and play it back with SOME players. specifically the Gallery and ES File Explorer video players work. VLC nightly doesn't. http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
GPS is still a bit slow to lock on, but hey... its progress...

Ok so its working.
Now how and where an we view these.
So far google plus and maps. Maps your sphere has to be geo tagged when you took it. If it wasnt no go.
Google plus is so stingy its painful. Actually its picasa I believe. Once uploaded it works like it does on the phone like a bubble scene you can scroll etc.
However sharing it using link has been problematic.

I've been sticking to g+. Hopefully they update the app soon so ppl without photosphere can see them without a PC.

I seem to be having an issue with photosphere I haven't seen mentioned. For some reason all other parts of camera work fine but when I open photosphere the view has a green tint and is has a lot of static to the point u can not make out what ur viewing. Anyone seen this or know how to fix? I tried reflashing. Also it did work in the beginning.

I know this is an old thread but I'm having same exact issue..still. As you have mentioned front camera recording does works...I guess the camera knows who the boss is!

N4 Tester Needed

I'm the developer of Send It and need someone with an N4 to test the app for me. It works from 2.3+ including on my N7 and Nexus S (both on 4.2) but I'm getting reports of it not working on the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 4, both running 4.2. Hard to fix if I can't reproduce
So does anyone fancy testing the app for me and letting me know definitively if it does or doesn't work? And if not providing a log cat and testing a couple of debug builds so I can fix this issue?

I just really need someone to try to send a file to one of their contacts and see if it works/crashes/says sent but is never recieved/ or something else/ etc.. And if it fails post the logcat so I can see what the issue is.
The logcat tutorial AshonTS linked to above is probably the best you'll find on the grabbing the logcat if you don't already know how to do so.
Really appreciate the offers to test.. this is why I love XDA

Can I ask which version you were using? I uploaded 1.0.5 shortly before you posted which I think may have fixed the 4.2 issue.. also which app were you using to send the image (Gallery?)..

I was using 1.0.5 and gallery, over the next couple of days I'm sure I'll use it again so I'll let you know if anything comes up.

What does the app add over stock share features in apps and send features in file browsers?
... I'll just try it out.

its an option which appears in those standard sharing menus in any app.. it automatically uploads files you share to your Google drive and sends the download link to the contact you choose

Facebook build 140579 download not working

My tmous s3 keeps trying to download Facebook (build 140579). Play store doesn't even show an update available for Facebook and it's just draining my battery. What is this and how do I stop it?

Firstly, this belongs in the Q&A section. Secondly, try to uninstall the app then reinstall through the play store.

Sorry, if a mod could move it that would be great. I did reinstall it, still tries to download. I can force stop it by force stopping downloads, but as soon as anything else starts downloading it just restarts the attempted download of Facebook too.

That's odd. Try breaking the market link via rom toolbox.
Go into app manager and long press on Facebook to get the option.

Tried that, doesn't work, also uninstalled fb app and any files that were with it and still it says downloading but never finishes?

I'm seeing this on my droid RAZR m as well. Its Verizon, I'm wondering if this is carrier specific. Still trying to to figure out how to make it go away. I don't have FB at all.

I saw it earlier and got a lil worry so i looked it up and found this forum!!! so i did what i read... Open download manager and then go to other downloads you should see it here just send it to trash and it fixed it! but then i my sister showed me the same thing and we just waited, finally it downloaded all of it (around 15 MB) and gave her a facebook update screen! saying it was a new version (facebook 2.3) that enables you to mark as spam posts and other stuff!!! NOW i feel like a [email protected] for reading about it and erasing it... hope it comes back on the market as a regular update and that some of you read this and just be patient! :fingers-crossed: GOOD LUCK AND IF SOMEBODY HAS A APK VERSION OF IT ALREADY PLS REPOST! I did the same! to sadly find out it was an update... now i dont see a way of getting it back

This happened to me too and just deleted the download in progress. I then updated the FB app in the play store. I don't know why FB is trying to update the app without going through the play store. I almost did a hard reset too.

I had the same problem . I yesterday externally installed Swype kepboard and this problem seems to have arised since then. Not sure however if i can directly blame this on the Swype. Anyways, one sure thing is that this download is unlikely to be a genuine facebook update & its more likely to be a spyware of some kind.
This is what i did & it seems to have stopped popping up since then. Hold the Download till u get an "App Info" option. Then click disable instead of Force stop. It has'nt restarted for me since then .

From your Browser, open the menu and select Download.
BTW, I also couldn't find a link to Download on my Spectrum but I do have it on my Transformer Prime, so maybe something that LG left out.

The scary thing here is it really is a genuine facebook update; see the links I have included below. They are going around the Play store for this and future updates. Which is scary enough on its own because a smart hacker could mimic this in the near future to inject malware. Also, in my case the update failed and now I can't use the version from the play store or this one.
I have complained to Google play about this because they are violation the developer terms; I also provided "feedback" to Facebook! I would recommend others complain to both also to let them know how their customers feel.
