Is there not a fix for google play movies yet?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
There's nothing to fix. Its specifically designed not to work on rooted devices. If you want it to work, you have to be on stock unrooted rom. Although now I'm curious if it'll work on cm9 now that you can disable root in the developer options

Interesting thank you

So this is still an issue? I was having the device rooted can't use google movies on el29. But on both fc22 n 24 it works for me. I thought google probably remove that but i guess not. Im runing fc24 oneclick by sfhub. Maybe it gets broken when u use another recovery besides stock?? I never bothered installing another recovery. Maybe someone should look into it. On el29 i did have rogue recovery installed.

There is an app called hide my root. Never used it but I assume that will work.
You can use the supersu (can't remember if its free or pro) app to disable root. Then google play movies work.
Apps like temp root remover and hide my root have also worked for me

Those apps don't work in my case

seriously just run sfhubs 1 click Odin and get root... if there's things you want which require root why not just root as opposed to trying to work around it... it can always be restored to unrooted stock should you ever need to take it into sprint anyway

I don't wanna root... Thats why I'm asking for a way without root
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Some 3rd party SMS apps will display them, like handcent for one, and there are viewers for them available in the market, but to view them system wide root is your only option, or at least the only one that I am aware of, you may want to Google a bit to confirm that... again that said I would just run rooted stock if you want to be able to use/view them system wide... there is no risk of bricking running sfhubs el29 rooted stock Odin one click and it can be easily undone should you ever need to, plus this is xda I'm not understanding the aversion to the simple task of rooting to get something you want to work to work?

Get go SMS from the play store
handcent or go sms will work without root

I guess I'll just have to root... Is there a way to root without losing any data and still be able to receive official OTA... Also if I change the fonts in the system will that effect the ota process...
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
If you use flipfont apks it won't affect the ota
And if you root you can always just go back to stock

I believe my phone is rooted... & I was able to use my phone as a modem, using the wi-fi tether app, for a long time.. Then I didn't use it for months. I tried to use it today, but I don't think it's working any longer.
Are there any specific setting that I need to set, in order for it to work? Is there anything I need to look or check for, to make sure it's all good? Is there anything I CAn download to make it work for sure??
I am on Android 2.3.6
Still using gingerbread el29
sprint epic 4g touch
Any help would be appreciated!!

also..if initially it doesn't work change setup method to ad hoc
It's not working. Not even showing up in the list of available networks on my PC. It used to work. I dunno why it stopped.. This sucks
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Might i recommend uninstalling the app and reinstalling. Change device profile in the wifi settings to galaxy nexus (cdma/Lte) should work without changing to ad hoc

Okay I just tried it today & it keeps saying it started with errors & to check the log. So I did &,it keeps failing on the "loading wifi driver" part. What does that mean??
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I keep trying to get it to work &,all it is saying is that it started with errors. & the error log said something about the wifi driver failing to load... It worked last night. Don't know why it stopped. Please help.

I use this app it's "wifi tether for root users" I've used it on GB,ics and jb as long as you're rooted all you gotta do is click the button to start the hotspot.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Same here... Wifi tether for root users is what I use for all platforms... GB, ICS, and KB. Reinstall the version I told you to get and do exactly what I said and it should work fine. Don't change anything except phone profile to galaxy nexus CDMA/LTE. When you change the profile in the apps settings it should say toro briefly and disappear. Make sure you have the version I mentioned above... Or pm me and I will email you the apk file. And yes you must have some signal to get any of the tether apps to work

Did everything and i get these errors. What could be going wrong?

hit the thanks it doesn't hurt.
Also alot of roms (assuming you are rooted) come with native sprint hotspot hacked and ready for use.
Sent from my MZ609 using xda app-developers app
I do have the version you mentioned, in your above reply, installed. &,did the settings like you said &,all I keep getting is the error of wifi driver loading, failed.

Everyone I time I move to on new roms it typical updates shortly after through okay store. are you absolutely sure you are rooted? You can get root checker from the play store
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Could always try Fox Fi (If it hasn't been mentioned) should work without Root as well. (I typically don't tether much if at all so cant' really chime in on it too much) i do have a friend who uses it constantly at work with no issues.
Ok either try clear clearing cache and dalvik cache in recovery... Reboot and install the wifi apk and do it again. Our maybe get FoxFi or a Custom ROM with sprint hotspot hacked... If you p.m. i'll give you the best chances for free wifi

I installed the new root66 JB and it seems that ad-free android doesn't actually block ads anymore. It says my host file is up to date, and and I restarted but I still get ads in places that I didn't get before the update. Xda, Pandora, ect. Is anyone else having this problem?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
You have to check the symlink if needed button and run it and it should work

Mine still works fine

Try adaway. Been using it forever and never had any issues.

I just had to go and find Ad Free again and install it. Cannot find it on google anymore, had to use dogpile. This app just disappeared from my tablet, I think google playstore had something to do with that. Now that it is reinstalled and working, is there anyway to protect this app from google trying to purge it again? Like with Titanium Backup or something? Thanks.
Google didn't purge it. Well they did, but only from their store.

Why not use what everyone else uses to remove ads, here is the link for "Adaway.apk" and it works just as well on JB or
any other versions of roms.
Here is the direct download link: http://www48.zippyshare.com/v/60362249/file.html
The play store no longer supports any add-blocking apps that's why you will not find it there.
Good Luck!
I rooted my phone to get rid of the annoying ads and used adaway from the play store on the stock rom but after trying out a couple of roms this past day I wanted to go back to stock rooted so I flashed the original rooted rom but it seems that I cant find either adfree or adaway in the play store or from links on the Internet. Any suggestions how to fix? Thanks

A quick search would reveal that they have been removed by Google. If they are free apps you should be able to find an apk.
Found this after googling AdAway.

Apparently the only way to get MiraCast to work is to go back to stock and use triangle away. Booooo. That won't happen.

It likely detects root on startup. ..like so many other apps. ..
I hate that. .
However. .don't we have some apps that hide root ??
I saw a few threads in the themes and apps section I'm pretty sure. ..
Sorry for not having a link. ..as it's been awhile. ..g
