[PORT/ROM] [AOSP ICS] The Collective's Melchizedek - [DISCONTINUED] - myTouch 4G Android Development

First off, I want to say that I am fairly new to doing anything past flashing roms and whatnot lol. So don't expect anything close to perfection for the time being. I started this port off as something personal to have and planned to not improve on it, but after a bit of playing around with the settings and whatnot; I plan to further my knowledge of Android, using this as a starting point. Any and all help with bugfixes etc. are much appreciated.
Without further ado... I present my port of Melchizedek for the MyTouch 4g.

What isn't working...so far..:
- Camcorder [use Abso Camera]
- I'm pretty sure I forgot something...
NOTE: for anyone using a non-standard dpi, there is a modded market (and some other pretty neat things) in the OTA, but you will have to buy paid apps through the browser.
ALSO:included kernel in this build is stock aospX. The custom profiles from tools and the clock steps in cpu tweak will not work. If you are using included kernel, please use AX Control for setting clock speeds and governors. The older Collective CFS kernel posted below works with the Melchizedek tools if you would prefer to use it. The Collective is working on going back to their own custom kernel.
Personal/Additional Thanks and Credits:
- dsixsda for creating a kitchen that Gordon Ramsay approves of.
- Mr. Highway for his extremely helpful guide on porting AOSP.
- rasroygbiv and The Collective for all of their amazing work and giving me permission to use it!
- blackwing182 for the base that made this possible and any further help he has given me.
- Team Royal/Android Insomnia for being amazing and inspiring me to expand my knowledge on Android.
- XDA for being such a helpful community.
- Hope I didn't forget anyone else...
NOTE: If I have forgotten anything, I encourage you to PM me so I may try to fix it ASAP.

op great rom thanks for it

I'd love to try this ROM out when I have some time. Is anyone seeing any major (read: crippling or severely limiting) bugs that might make me want to wait?

This sounds great, I was a big fan of the GB collective port. The OP mentions flashing ”one” of the kernels from the collective ota... Any suggestions?

As was I. I always loved the art The Collective added into their roms. As for the kernel, the OTA only contains a BFS and a CFS version of the same kernel. I would suggest you try them both and see which one fits how you use your phone better.

I haven't really tested beyond what I personally use on my phone and a couple of other things, but you can go ahead and try it yourself, just make sure you read the OP about any things that may not work... Other than that, I've been running this rom since I ported it as a DD without a problem.

Hey guys, this is a really noob question but I tried flashing this and I can't get my phone past the splash screen. I have no idea what the issue might be. I did a feel wipe and I tried using the awesome kernel, if that matters. Thank you for any help

Bad download? Maybe you tried flashing the kernel incorrectly? I tried the shot of awesomeness v1.5 kernel with this rom earlier and I was able to boot up just fine.

Welcome to post 5. If you are about to say this is post 3, then you are mistaken.
If your ignorance, stupidity and marriage to your aunt cause you to post such a blatantly retarded post that I struggle to comprehend how an ape managed to make onto the interwebs and create such a thing as a "profile" (nevermind the knowledge of how to flash ROMs) then it shall reside here. In a kind of hall of fame, for those of you whose intellect can be measured with a teaspoon. So how can I get my brain power slated on this hugely popular thread well.. there's only 2 simple rules which n00bs grasp quite quickly. Your post or question just has to be one of the following
A) A question been answered multiple times throughout the thread. Believe it or not there is actually a search function embedded within this hallowed forum for such a thing as finding answers to your more than likely moronic question.
Or
B) Just downright dimwitted.
So onto the twats:

Hey look at this idiot with his 30 posts just wandering in to ask such gems as "why are ROMs never intended for such low end devices slow?", "which way is up?" and "where is my arse, I cannot find it!".
If all 30 of your posts (I am too afraid to look) are as hilariously bereft of wisdom as this one, I fear some kind of celestial collapse or natural disaster about to happen caused by the sheer density of the stupidity you manage to bring to these forums.
Bravo.
(A guest appearance by our resident n00b bashing celebrity - Ninpo.)
Brilliant. Glad to see the Hero still alive and kicking.

I appreciate your comments and yes I did talk to erasmux about this although he did not know I was reposting the links to his port, but we talked about it and I explained my reasons for it and he agreed it wasn't a problem. Looking back it seems like a stupid idea but its past now and no harm has been done.
I will be releasing updates for this ROM and HC in a few days time, so there's no need to criticise what I did. I'm sorry if I sound annoyed, I'm not at all as you have supported me a lot, I'm just telling you how it is and I hope now we can forget about this and focus on the future of the ROM.

Its ok he did. I hope the he and other developers can help drive these ports forward. The situation is much better than it was before, but still there are many issues with these newer Sense ports.

Tbh, it depends on how you use both of these ROM's. IMO WildHero is stabler and much faster than this ROM.

Good luck Esa
Thanks ele, I'll PM you and discuss ways of contacting each other more conveniently.
To everyone else, I'll be updating the ROM to the shipped release tonight (thanks for the tip arnoslag). May change the kernel, that will depend on further testing tonight, I will also look some of the other niggles with this ROM and see if they can be fixed tonight, if I find any major issues, I'll hold back the release till tomorrow.

cool
as I said I agree with your sentiments in the original post - was just laughing a bit about how it sounded like Erasmux was surprised
Both of you continue to do so much to help the hero retain interest on XDA!
Now what I really want to see is some further success with the honeycomb rom...
if GB sense is too much for the hero, maybe honeycomb without sense will be a more satisfying project.
1、I like mms's theme as mms of WildHero 。
2、can bluetooth work?
3、work fast and stable?
Are the window animations slugghish in this port ? :\
and i cant see in the description what works and whats not?! xd
EDIT: I think this rom is faster than wildhero, the animations, smoothness etc.

FAQ - THE BIG PICTURE
What is ICS?
ICS is Ice Cream Sandwich - Google's latest version of Android.
- Some of the very latest phones on the market already have it installed. e.g HTC One series
- Some slightly older phones will eventually be 'upgraded' to ICS e.g Desire HD, but this may be a number of months away, and promised 'upgrades' have sometimes never been delivered at all.
- If / when it does arrive for Desire HD it may not happen for everybody at the same time, sometimes it's carrier by carrier, and finally 'retail' (non carrier branded) handsets that get the upgrade last!
- If / when it does arrive, it will be overlayed with HTC's Sense (some like it, some don't)
- In the meantime, folks are working on getting ICS on your Desire HD BEFORE it's officially released for the phone, with and without Sense (giving you a choice)
So why don't some features work?
Well, the ICS being used on Desire HD is 'taken' from officially released ICS phones like the HTC One range, or 'leaked' ROMS from similar phones.
However, those phones have slightly different hardware and features than the Desire HD - so they aren't exactly the same. This means that parts of the software have to be 'ported' to work on the Desire HD.
OK, so why is porting so difficult?
The Android O/S is 'open source' meaning that anybody can see the actual source code for themselves, and see how it all works. They can modify it and adapt it to suit their needs (good).
Phone manufacturers USE Android in their phones, but they don't have to make all their own 'extra' software open source too. They like to protect their software by keeping it secret (not so good). There are many reasons why they do this, both good and bad, but it makes porting difficult.
When developers don't have access to the source code for parts of a phone, they have to write their own!... this means they have to have highly detailed knowledge of the phone, its hardware and other software components. Sometimes they can try things by trial and error, sometimes they have knowledge from a similar phone, and sometimes they just don't know.
This is the most common issue for 'ported' ROMS. Things like Power Management, Camera, WiFi, GPS etc are the things that make one manufacturer's phone stand out from another, and therefore end up 'secret'.
This does not mean that they will never work, it only means that they take longer to get working.
Who does the porting?
The actual porting is done by surprisingly few people:
- Some guys who know 'inside secrets'
- Some guys who are just great developers but who don't have the secrets
- Some guys who can develop but need a little guidance
- Some of them are 'great guys' helping the community (and keeping their own skills up to date)
- Some of them have other motives (good and bad)
- Some of them form teams to work on different ports
Why don't all the developers work together?
Developers are people - they have all the same issues as everybody else:
- Some like working alone
- Some feel that other developers standards aren't high enough
- Some are trying to fix a specific problem that THEY want fixed
- Some teams have different goals (one team might be aiming for a port that can work on 5 different phones, whilst another team are focused on a single phone. One team may want a totally 'clean' ROM and another want a ROM with lots of customisation options built in)
- Sometimes, people just don't get along with each other
I thought the ROM makers did all this work?
You'd be wrong.
The ROM developers use the ported code to make their ROMs. Sometimes they can choose different components from the various development teams to build a ROM.
Imagine a motor car:
1) The 'developers' make the engine, wheels, steering, chassis etc
2) The ROM Makers build their car choosing the components they need for their ROM
3) The 'Modders' add custom paint colours, fancy headlights, custom interior etc
The 'developers' are not smarter than the ROM makers, and the ROM makers are not smarter than the modders. They just have different roles (and some people do all three roles!)

We give love and much respect to Cyanogenmod. The AOSP scene would not exist as it does today without them. We implement some of their branches to support legacy devices and features that users have demanded. The resources we use include, but are not limited to:
Features:
Code:
Phone: for T9 dialer support
MMS
T-Mobile Theme Engine
Branches:
Code:
libhardware, libhardware_legacy, system/core, system/netd, /system/vold, frameworks/native, frameworks/av, isolated frameworks/base cherry-picks,
and various qualcomm support related branches. We also use some qualcomm related branches from CodeAurora Forum.

4.19.2013 - Tester #2 EOS4 - 4.2.2
First and foremost to use this rom you must have zvb installed. Coming from ICS will not work.
- Rom is now able to be under volted. It will not stick at 1026mhz anymore. I am safely running at 270mhz currently.
- New Media Profiles, Codecs and thermald Confs
- New Default governer is Intellidemand
- Eco Mode has been added. (dual core operations) We should be able to use this app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37464463
- Reverted back to my original MMS configs. I have yet to test it, but Shel told me they were working on CM...please someone test and report back with LOGS if it doesnt!
- Baseband is now reporting modem based on grep in About Phone. Thank you Shelnuts and Kaik541 originally!
- CM camera has been added (Power shutter still needs to be added, it will not work), Auto Focus is now working on the camera
- Updated EOS Performance settings
- You can now Copy inside Google Talk (No idea why its not stock!)
With many more tweaks as well!
Download Suggested to avoid any corruptions that you factory resest (Yes I know its a pain, but it helps to get rid of any lingering issues. Do not restore data either, just apps with your backups)
http://d-h.st/L7W
04.16.2013 - Test Rom- EOS4 4.2.2
First and foremost to use this rom you must have zvb installed. Coming from ICS will not work.
Known to be working
- Camera is working. Its still a wip. I have noticed that auto focus isnt very strong. Thank you Shelnutt2!!!
- LED does work. You just need to enable it via settings/display http://bit.ly/ZoRg71
- Wired Headset now works
- Bluetooth works
- MMS still needs a little work ( I am pretty sure we need to tweak the RIL). You can use GOSMS without any issues.
- Calls will hang up briefly and immediately dial out afterwards. (This happens on JB modem)
- You will not have any of the display issues we had previously. They should be all cleaned up.
New Features added
- Eos Control Center has been moved to settings. There is no longer an icon for it.
- You can now copy and paste within Talk.
- Full Mako kernel with tweaks. This kernel is based off Faux123's kernel source and has been made to work with LGOG. Max frequency is 1512mhz and Min freq can go as low 162mhz (but I am pretty sure this wont work. You will get deep sleeps and no wakes) I have mine set at 384mhz. You can now tweak other kernel settings as well. Such as vibration strength, fast charge and others. Sound can also be tweaked with Faux123's Sound application from play store. I have been using the trickster mod for kernel changes as well as performance settings in ECC. I would like to thank Synergye for helping bring this kernel to us. Awesome job he did!!!!
Faux123's original kernel can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2008222 ***Do not flash this! Its not done by name and will brick you pretty well! Cant believe I need to add this! ****
Download
http://d-h.st/cbn
I do ask that if you are going to report issues please have a logcat to go with complaint. I cant trouble shoot it if I cant see the issue and why its happening.
First things first. I will be maintaining this device for teameos.
I would like to thank Synergye for all of his hard work getting this kernel up and running.
Shelnut2 and thecubed for Freegee. Without this app none of this would of been possible.
Shelnut2 for his work on getting the trees up and running.
Theo289 for putting up with me and testing everything that I have thrown his way.
Mike_77, what a soldier. He lost a few devices along the way, but I think its all his fault.
Autoprime for discovering the importance of EFS back up. Life Saver!
BigRushdog and the rest of the EOS team for their awesome rom. Great work!
Any thank you to anyone else I have forgotten along the way.
What Needs to be fixed
Camera still needs TLC
GPS is fully working in this build. If you are having issues. Please revert back to stock get a GPS lock, then reflash this rom. A few have had issues and this has helped to fix it.
MMS. As for now GOSMS will send/receive MMS. I am pretty positive we need some TLC on our custom RIL that Shelnut2 put together. We have a possible fix that I will let BRD or Auto explain which entails deleting the telephony.db file that will help you to get MMS on stock.
If you find anything is not working please let me know. We have tested this through and through. Its good to go, but please remember this is a work in progress.
Enjoy!
and mine!!

+1, 3G works just fine for me.
This is an awesome rom. It's super stable. Been running it for a day, and I've seen no force closures. The only issues that I've run across is weird animations while opening apps. It flickers from the newly opened app what was on the screen previously back to the app. It's also evident in Shellnut2's CM10.1 builds.
Any way to remove the screen brightness adjuster in the status bar toggle menu? It's obnoxiously huge.
I've noticed that the wired headset problem is only a problem when using it to make phone calls. Using it as headphones works just fine.
I'm thrilled to see more developers develop for this phone.
It will be interesting to see who gets the camera running first....

you can remove the screen brightness adjuster in the EOS Control Center. We are all working on the camera together, well Shel more then me. I was given GPS and MMS to work on. Since the start this has always been a joint effort. Glad you are enjoying it.
Wow, this looks great. I'll wait until mms and camera are fixed before I use it though.

Since the beginning of Android, cam has always been the mother of aosp challenges. It's proprietary technology in which source code is not provided. Thus android does not know how to communicate with the camera hardware layer. Very basically.
OK guys I feel stupid. I am trying to install the ROM and GAPPS everything installs fine but I have no mobile network I restored my EFS just to see it that would help but did not help. I did get to play with the software and it was great thanks for any help in advance.

We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our goo.im page linked above. It's new, but expanding fast. Just like us!
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.

If you want to know whats been added up til today see ShinySide's m919 tmo thread change logs HERE[/QUOTE]
Lookin' to hook ya'll d2spr homies up with some fresh carbon, hacked together, goodness! Still got one laying around for back up/dev device, and due to recent aspirations of learning, got this built out earlier today! Good guy ShinySide helped with building out for jflteusc, so I thought, eh why not make my first useful thread by building out for d2spr! haha. Hope you enjoy.
If you also have a jflte* device, ShinySide seems to be an unofficial jf maintainer, and I am hosting usc jf over here.
Carbon will hold me over on this device until a little project I jumped on board with comes to this device as well tho.... so keep an eye out for the fun coming down the pipe line as well.
Omg thank you!!!! I've been waiting for someone to build this for d2spr

I think the link is wrong. When I click it, it takes me to the md5 checksum download but not the ROM itself.

Oh dang, waddup dood!
lol straight up. Sorry sig is for my evo... Uhm so should let ya kno i don't have service on this device currently, so you guys gotta let me know if everything service wise is functioning properly! Also, noticed I got solid white square on bootani, everyone else getting that?
Stock carbon kernel right now to make sure things are functioning, but have been running KT kernel when things are stable. Or yea, and switching to ART cuz it's stupid awesome. However, ART is google beta, and KT kernel is not stock, so:
ANYONE REPORTING ISSUES HERE OR TO CARBON MUST BE FULL WIPED FLASHED, STOCK KERNEL, AND DALVIK NOT ART.
Please and thank you ya'll

nah, it's not that, I've seen that before haha. Somethin they may be tweakin with or just the graphics stuff isn't built 100% correctly... not sure
Thanks for building this! I love Carbon ROMs, and I was really anticipating the KitKat version. So far I love it. Only problem I have found is that I get a force close whenever I try to open device tunables under system settings, carbon fibers. Other than that, everything seems smooth and fast.
Custom carriere lable is not showing.

Good for you dude. I also asked about progress on this after testing and was ignored. I have noticed that is a pattern with some devs, if they don't have an answer or know how to fix what's wrong they just pretend it doesn't exist. I'm glad at least you decided to try and do something yourself.
I have always gone out of my way to respect what the devs do and understand they are not obligated to do anything in reality, but this business of just ignoring people and disappearing without even as much as saying "I'm moving on" or "I just don't know how to fix it, sorry" is becoming a pet peeve of mine. This is especially a problem in this forum. In the old Exhibit forums I was never used to that. BTW before somebody gets defensive I have donated to some of these same people who are doing this, so no guilt trips please. I try to do my part to show appreciation besides words.

My external SD has been broken since bk in November because of flashing 4.3 ROMs. Haven't found a fix for it but I'm fine with just 16 gigs for now. But i do believe sounds ported another cam to this. But he added a few things of his own. And artful this things pretty solid. And I've been tweaking this thing hard. And comes viper equipped. That's what sold me on this.

The test version of official 4.4 DU could not read the internal storage oddly enough, external was fine. I'm just puzzled as to why that made them quit on it unless they thought it was due to lack of interest, IDK. Maybe they just said the hell with it.
thanks
thanks for the support you guys im glad to see you guys like the rom as long as they update it i will update i will be posting a beanstalk with theme engine and a aosb that i believe has multi window in the next few days bare with me as im in pa and my internet is slow over here in ny its much faster but again thanks for your comments and support
