Some questions... - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 General

Hi! I have some questions about custom ROMs
-How can i add "data" of app like Spare Parts to ROM read my settings if app will be system.
-Is it possible to hide app, like a lot of these systems app?
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda premium

I can't undestand the first question. I hope it's not because my bad english (lol)
if you mean 'is it posible to put sparepart.apk into my system app?' the answer is yes. its easy. jush push it to system/app. reboot. done.
for the second one...yes, its possible to hide some app from the drawer. it could esily done by using go launcher or other 3rd launcher app.
btw, next time please put your question in FAQ thread. more experienced user only answer any question there. they will ignore this kind of post.

Ok i get this to FAQ, btw this what you answered is all what i know, and not this what i want

I cant get your first question.. haha peace.
the second one. If i understand you correctly. "you want to hide system apps fomr your application drawer right? "
it can be possible by using launchers which has capabilities of grouping apps. like ADW. just just go to app drawer >>> press option button >>> click choose group >> add new >> select the apps which you want to see in your app drawer >>>> walllla ! DONE
did I get your question?

1. use titanium backup to keep all your settings and data
2. use titanium backup tp freeze system files/ delete them permanently

1) Recommended: You can disable the app when you go to Settings->Apps and select the app. It will give you an option to disable.
2) You can remove the app if you have root. Just open a file explorer with root access, go to /system/app, backup the apk to /sdcard, and then delete it.
You could also freeze the app with Titanium Backup, then if you want to update OTA later you can just unfreeze it.

True, you could use Titanium Backup -- but it was more useful Gingerbread and prior versions of Android -- ICS has that feature built into the OS.
Similar question, if I switch to nova launcher can I just pull stock launcher permanently? I've done so in the past so its prob possible. I just don't like seeing nova appear in system panel using 50mb of ram labeled "perceptible" if both launchers are now taking extra resources.

Yes, you could. Keep in mind that you will need to put it back if you plan to update using the next OTA update URL.

Default App Selector

Hey guys, question regarding setting a specific app as the default. I have removed the 'Sound Recorder' app as it's a horrible sound recorder for our phone. I have the paid version of Hi-Q MP3 Recorder, and I wanted to know how I might be able to set this app as the default app for recording. So if I open a separate app that is able to record things, how can I make it open up Hi-Q to start recording things?
It should ask when you ttry make a recording... if not just delete all otther sound players and recorders...

That's the thing, it doesn't ask and I don't have any other voice recorders installed that I know of. I have Google Music, Double Twist, and I think that's about it, but neither of them are able to record anything. When trying to do it through the other app, it just force closes as it's not able to open anything up. I sent a message to the dev to see if they can add a way to change the default recorder.
I just wanted to know if there was an app or anything where I could choose a default app for a specific action.
You can try using Default App Manager. If you can't find the specific app under Settings > Applications, then that's probably your best bet.

On a similiar subject how do you get the default wallpaper back other than data wipe? Will that app do that too?

It must be data for something because wiping data restores it. It is not launcher data because I get the same wallpaper across different launchers.

Just installed it, but doesn't look like the option for 'recording' is there. The only audio related option is playback. Looks like a good app, but not quite what I'm looking for. Thanks for the suggestion.

You could go into system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/drawable and find default_wallpaper.jpg and save it to your SD card. Other than that, I don't know of any apps that would specifically revert it back. Time to search.

Do you have a current app that voice recording is being pushed to? Or is it just not opening anything when you use a function that should open something?
The data for changing the wallpaper has to be somewhere. I know how to do it the hard way. I made the ROM. I just want to be able to tell The People "to see or get back to the default wallpaper wipe data in xxxxxxxxxx"

The real question is, where is the pointer to the new wallpaper stored when you change it from the default? Has to be a cache of some sort. If you could wipe out that data, then theoretically it would point back to the original wallpaper in framework-res.apk.
Someone more experienced that I at reading logcats could probably figure out what's actually happening when you change a wallpaper from the default.

Customized launcher.

Is it possible for me to customize my launcher however I want and place the apk into a rom or theme and once flashed and installed my launcher would already be exactly as I always had it?
I'm not trying to back it up and restore it. What I'm really trying to do is get go launcher the way I customize and set all my widgets, apps, and short cuts into a .zip and once its flashed and the app installs it autimatically comes the way I already had it with no need to restore any kind of data.

I doubt it... that requires backing up the desktop configuration. Also... go launcher is CIQ renamed YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.
No. That info is stored in the data partition, not with the app.

or you could make a backup of it in titanium and restore it every time.
EDIT: ignore this. I just read the op thoroughly

I understand what you're saying, as I do a similar thing with my roms. What I do is simply copy in the data with the launcher apk. However, widgets never restore properly. One could modify a launcher to change the defaults, but I couldn't tell you where to begin.

Ya I kind of figured it would be possible since different launchers have a different "stock" setting that they set the home screen so I wanted to see if it was possible to edit that "stock" into whatever I want. But it may be a little bit too much to do. I may think about it later, but not for now. Thanks though.

What's CIQ? Is that like an ATRAC? I think I heard about that in a museum.
Such old news. Only a few months ago but yet it seems to have faded completely.
We should go back to using those KnowCIQ banners. To prevent that kind of thing in the future. Though I don't really care.
So.... The Chinese have all my top secret data?
So, suprising no one has tried to remove it, rewrite one without it, or just blatantly expose the code. Probably could make some headlines considering how widely used GoLauncher is. I hear and see people talk about it but I've only seen references. (the again, never really researched it other than Google.... <- - - THE WORLDS LARGEST CIQ?)

It's asking you to replace a system app which means that it is already installed. just check again mate..
To make sure that its installed go to Setting --> Apps --> All then search for "notes"
If you found it, try to add its widget to your homescreen. and also, make sure when you are searching for it in the "app drawer" that you are in "all" tab not in "downloads" tab because it's a system app and it is not downloaded..
If notes app didn't show up that means that there is something wrong with that notes app you have and it requires root access to remove that system app and replace it with another one but its pointless as you said that your phone is not rooted..

Well first, I don't know why you're creating all these useless threads?? It's just clogging up this forum! Now you are trying to give advice when u don't know what you are talking about!! Giving people false information. U cannot go into system settings and delete a system app, you have to have a file explorer with root capabilities!!

This belongs in my development thread please, and if you actually read my OP you would see you can swap the messaging app via a flashable zip.
please read the forum rules, our mod's are very busy and this is a complete waste of their time. I understand you only have 8 posts but there are much better ways of getting the prerequisite to post in a development forum
hope this helps
I'm quite aware
I made the ROM.
