I was under the impression that gsm nexus phones on Rogers were not updated by Google. I tried that official update app and it says my phone is updated by Google? I never flashed yakju, unless wugs toolkit does it automatically?

What does it say in your System settings "about phone"? I believe it should be stated there (but I'm in the middle of flashing ROMs so can't look now). If that doesn't make sense: try Android System Info from Market. I read you can use that too in order to determine if you have Yakju or Yakjuxx

You actually can tell if you are on yakju from the settings -> about phone menu. If the build number is ITL41D, ITL41F, ICL53F, or IMM76D, you are on yakju. If it says anything different, it is non-yakju. (Won't be able to tell which non-yakju build you are on though.)
I had this same problem finding out what I was updated from Google or Samsung. I am also with rogers. Canadian GNeX are not Yakju they are updated from Samsung. The WugFresh ToolKit does change it to Yakju but only if you come back to stock using it because the stock version that WugFresh's TK uses is a Yajku Version
Sorry if that was hard to understand

Im with rogers and my Gnex build is ICL53F so from what i read thats yakju so we would get the update from Google..so not all rogers gnex are non yakju!
Not a reliable indicator. My yakjuux device shipped with 4.0.2 ICL53F.
Open /system/build.prop as a text file (you can even do this without root from a file manager such as Astro), and scroll down to the "ro.product.name" line. That's where you'll see yakju, yakjuux etc.
Or in Terminal emulator, or over ADB shell, type:
getprop ro.product.name

All Canadian GNs are yakjuux (unless you bought a used one that someone already modified). If you are yakju, the build number in Settings>About phone will say either ITL41D or ITL41F or ICL53F or IMM76D. That's it: only 6 characters. It you are yakjuux, it will say something like ICL53F.I9250UXLA2 in the build number: about 17 characters.
This is just as reliable as any other method of finding out what build you are on.
On non-yakju builds, the last 3 letters on the build number are the radio that shipped with the build, and the two before that will indicate the 2 letters that come after yakju. Eg., for yakjuux, that would be UG, for yakjuxw, it would be XW.

Hello,
Ive got 2 Galaxy nexus one bought from US store and one from a UK store, both are not the LTE versions.
i got OTA update from 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 OTA on the UK one but not yet for the US.
I dont want to brick the phone so Id like some help please, ive never used nexus phones before so i apologize for all the questions.
is it possible to flash it to the US one? and if i do will i still get OTA updates when they roll out or would i have to always do it manually?
the US one is 4.0.1 baseband: XXKK1 Kernel: ga052f63 Build: ITL41F
and i the UK one is 4.0.2 baseband: KK6 kernel: gaaa2611 Build: ICL53F after OTA update.
Do use Gnex Toolkit v4.1 ? and without rooting?
Thanks guys

you won't brick.
there is no U.S. firmware for the Galaxy Nexus.
there are only three types of OTAs:
yakju: Google supported (GSM)
mysid: Google supported (LTE)
variants of yakju (yakjuxw,yakjuux,etc): GSM
flash it.

it still receives updates but it comes from Samsung. still a stock experience, just comes with extra languages and things like that.
you can convert it to a yakju (search it).
updates often come out for yakju more frequently than the variations of yakju
If I convert it to a yakju, will this affect my warranty? If yes, can I convert it back to my current one?

Based on my modest knowledge, if the nexus doesn't have a flash counter and u flash back to yakuxw u shouldnt lose warranted. Better ask the professionals here in xda though.

Your device is running a yakjuxw build, which has not been updated to 4.0.4 yet. The only (GSM) builds that have been updated so far are yakju, takju and yakjuzs. So pushing the "check now" button will not do anything for you.
If you want to flash yakju or takju, see here.
Otherwise, I update this thread as soon as I see any updates for any of the builds.

How much time do you think it will take for ICL53F to get 4.0.4 ?
Could it take months ?
^ could take minutes, days, weeks, months. no one can really tell. if you really want 4.0.4 just follow what efrant mentioned.

Hi,
I can't find out witch version my galaxy nexus is ,
It has to be an GSM international yakju but the
But the build number(imm76k) is for the Verizon cdma,
Judging by the Baseband number(I9250xxla2) it should have the imm76i, but it doesn't .
I had a Samsung galaxy s vibrant before this one so I'm
More or less familiar with android flashing and rooting. But I have no clue on what to do next .I wanted to root it, instal cwm and flash a 4.1 official rom
I searched around the net and the forums but found almost nothing.
IMM76K is the 4.0.4 for the non-yakju variants so you must be running one of those.
If you want the official 4.1.1 you can either flash the takju/yakju factory image for 4.0.4 and wait for the OTA or update to 4.1.1 manually.
OR you can wait until the factory image for 4.1.1 is available and flash that.

Yes, it looks like some devices are shipping with yakju IMM76K. Not sure why, but it seems that they are not getting the update right away. If you just bought your device, best is to just flash yakju JRO03C from Google's site.

That means you're getting OTA via Samsung, not Google. What I recommend you to do is use Efrant's guide to convert from what you have to yakju or takju. It only takes few minutes... Make sure that you got everything backed up, since the process includes you wiping EVERYTHING.
But when I connect my Nexus to kies it keep saying "connecting", tried on two different computers.
BTW, am I running the right firmware?
Well first of all, Gnex doesn't use Kies... You need to download the drivers yourself
And what do you mean by right variant?
Samsung use kies right? Where can I get the driver?
I think I am using Verizon firmware?
Are you with Verizon? If not, the answer is no.
Only device with Samsung Touchwiz uses it. Gnex is a PURE ANDROID. Without any brand bloatware. That is why it doesn't have Kies.
Verizon variant is mysid and if you have GSM Gnex and you can text, call and etc, you don't have Verizon variant. You don't need to worry about that.
You can get the driver and how to install it from this post
according on the web, IMM76K seems to be a Verizon firmware?
That is Verizon Android 4.0.4 version (I think). Mysid is like a "codename" for all Verizon ROMs. For example, CM10 for GSM Nexus is either takju or yakju, but CM10 for Verizon will be mysid. Hope that answers your question
how can i update to 4.1.1?

OP: If you don't want to convert to yakju or takju, you just need to wait. From what I know, your variant doesn't have the Jelly Bean OTA yet (Blame Samsung). I personally would just convert it and get it over with. That's what I did, and I am very happy with my decision. Photos and musics and the moved to your computer and apps+data can be backed up by following this guide
I thank you for your help. Here are my last questions:
How to tell if my phone is an import and find out where it is from?
BTW I still can't update (not flash) to 4.1.1
Well the variant can tell you if it's an import. For example, you have yakjuzs is a China variant, so it is an import. If you had takju, it will be from US. If yakjuux, Canadian. Something like that.
Ok i think mine is not an import then, thank you very much!

There are ways to unlock the GN without wiping data (it involves using an exploit rather than "fastboot oem unlock").
ezekeel's app has such a method.
However: I am not familiar with the Verizon GN that you say you have. I can't say for sure the app will work with it. You can ask around in his thread. There may also be other ways I'm not aware of.
I need to return my nexus to where I bought it because it is faulty, but i need to put the original os back on any ideas where I can get it?
the original build number was: Imm76k.i9250xwld2 which is apparently "yakjuxw" running 4.0.1 (i think)
the build number now is JRO03C or yakju running 4.1.1
I have been told that it wont matter if i don't do this, as they are both official builds and they wont know/care. any experience with this?

Imm76k.i9250xwld2 is not yakjuxw 4.0.1, it is yakjuxw 4.0.4.
You can find a yakjuxw 4.0.1 ROM in the dev section. Once you flash it, you will get updated to yakjuxw 4.0.4 and and possibly yakjuxw 4.1.1.

I've flashed the software from the link I posted, but the build number is different to what it originally was
it is now: ITL41F.I9250XWKK9 instead of Imm76k.i9250xwld2

also on this site it is listed at the bottom as "IMM76K shipped on I9250 international devices later in the Galaxy Nexus’ lifecycle. It was never offered as an over-the-air update."
can anyone help me find the build I'm after, or at least tell me if its safe to send it without the exact same build it came with on?
