Partially yes... see my post over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24344675&postcount=7
Still investigating, as pointed out there. Guess i'm gonna solve it soon.
There's a lot of information floating around, but should be solved more essential in my opinion.
Maybe tonight

scholbert

MTP requires additonal packages, but i guess installing some packages would be simple enough
Unfortunately there's no Archos Gen9 "out of the box" support if you're on Ubuntu 11.10, because they still use libmtp 1.1.0.
You'll need some fiddling or update your Linux host...

scholbert

Thanks scholbert
i will be use that

although I asked some questions before in some threads related to this one, some people replied that Archos is having their internal memory as ex4, and windows doesn't read the ext4 format, but the question here is, ''does ext4 supported by linux '', although it's the best extension or format with linux, it's not working, although Android is based on linux kernel, but Android support for linux is POOR., waiting for something to get over that problem.
thanks in advance.

If you mean in the xda ftp site it is a linux port to the HTC Universal.
It should work on all branded HTC Universal. It's not finished yet, but it boots and and GUI works. The phone doesnt work yet.
You can read the whole story here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=35972
And the progress here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=UniversalProgress
And a screenshoot here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/files/opie_uni.png
It's quite fun to run Linux on the Universal. But, it's a benefit if you are a little in to Linux before you start.
Good luck
thanks for the reply and for being so helpful with it. my phones got weird anyway so may as well have a l;ook at it.
thanks again

P525 Linux???

is there some way of putting Linux to P525???
greetings!!!
LInux P525
Hello,
I'm currently looking for a way to do that, I tell you as soon as I have done some test on mine.
Step 1: find out what hardware it uses
Step 2: get a desktop or laptop up and running with linux (any distribution), and compile a kernel that fits the device
Step 3 (and above): I'll leave that for you to figure out
or just FORGET IT.
there's no reason to think about linux on p525.
Linux P525
This device is runinng on a Intel XScale PXA270 which is apparently already support by some "embeded distribution".
I think it's a good start for testing.
And It's a good idea to have an open source OS on your mobile

and lack of 2/3 of drivers + almost no useful apps, yeah...
few months ago, someone has successfully implemented this before... I did not do that as I think there are less software in Linus and i am just a normal user, not an expert like you guys..Are there many games/software for Linus now? If so, i will consider to try....

There is a GPL's linux software HERMflasher for flashing hermes/trinity (working), and similar code for magician (untested).
I guess that the hermes code may be adapted for the universal with some
minor effort.
well i do know how to program but i do not have the detailed knowledge of flashing especially of universal, so i don't think i'll be able to mod it..
Again i don't want to brick the only phone i have [].. by testing this util..hehe
Thanx a lot anyway....

If the uni is not locked. Otherwise it may be easier to flash from the SD.
http://linuxtogo.org/~ph5/htc-tools
Sorry, the current htc-tools version is magician-specific.
But we are working on flashing the linux ROM, so it'll work eventually

how to build a custom rom

Hi guys, I am writing to ask you this question because every time I see a new custom rom in the development section I always wonder: "How do they create or improve a rom and what are the languages that you need to know?". I know that may seem like a stupid question but I can not find a starting point.
translated from Italian to English with google translator, if I made some mistakes in the writing I apologize in advance.
http://source.android.com/source/initializing.html is a good starting point. You could then add stuff from other ROM devs.
You should also familiarize yourself with the concept of searching. That's definitely a requirement.
The guide says: It is possible to build Also Android in a virtual machine. If you are running Linux in a virtual machine, you will need at least 16GB of RAM / swap and 30GB or more of disk space in order to build the Android tree.
I have a laptop Acer Aspire5750G with Windows8, has only 4GB of RAM, a processor IntelCorei7-2630QM, HDD 750GB and a GPU Nvidia GT540M. If I put ubuntu 10.04 in dual boot just the ram?
it says 16GB of ram or swap space.....
Note: It is also possible to build Android in a virtual machine. If you are running Linux in a virtual machine, you will need at least 16GB of RAM/swap and 30GB or more of disk space in order to build the Android tree

Ubuntu for Ascend P6

I notice Canonical's Ubuntu operating system is being developed to run on devices which currently run android:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Install
And would seem a new "experimental snapshot" of the software has been released for development and evaluation.
The link below contains the download and all instructions needed to flash a device with the software, and I was wondering if anyone with more insight into the subject than myself could advise whether we can expect to see Ubuntu come to the P6 soon or not?
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Install
It looks promising to me...

Our device doesn't have kernel which can support " device loop " . If have smone can build kernel with that function. We can run uBuntu or other backtrack, kali linux etc with linux deploy or linux installer complete.
Sry poor english.
Can anyone make a port?
There is a Guide on how to do it so can anyone?
Would be great!!
