yup, it's definitely possible, especially if you're charging it from a USB port. If it gets way too low it can think the batteries gone bad and won't even try to charge it anymore.

I'll make it short.
My phone is shutting down when battery is at 11-12%. Just like that..
Shouldn't it be on 1-3% or something like that?

But you get the Popup on connection, and the Charging Notification on the Status bar as well?
EDIT: Try this, Turn off your phone, Remove the battery, SIM, SDCard (ie: everything), Place for 10-15 minutes, then reassemble your phone and try again

It decreased again? Or stayed static? Remember - Charging (even 1%) takes time.
It seems something is broken. :/

Got another MicroUSB Cable? Try with that. If it still doesn't work, I would assume it to be a hardware issue.

I (probably) have the same problem.
Got an HTC Wildfire a few days ago. Didn't come with the original charger & cable.
The charger I got is 500mA. Problem is, it's barely charging and sometimes even discharging (while it's plugged in)
I've installed a couple of widgets to look into it (Battery Mix & CurrentWidget)
Battery Mix clearly shows the phone discharging while plugged in (as a graph), CurrentWidget says it's getting under 50mA (ranging from 15-45)
Right now it's off & charging. The battery was around 13% when I switched it off. Waited about 30 min, then turned it back on, it was at 42%.
I'm trying to exhaust all other options before I go out and get new hardware.
I'm wondering why the charger is only giving it <50mA and wondering if the problem lies with it, the battery, the cable or the phone itself.
Battery charge indicator 2.3.5 upgrade problem
Hello everyone. This is my first time come to xda-developers form.I'm from china.
Yesterday I update my wildfire S(China mainland Edition)to 2.3.5+Sense3.0 lockscreen(Taiwan Edition)'s ROM.
I charge my bbttery yesterday evening.I turn off my phone.
When charge compalate.I found that the LED light didn't change green. It was still orange.
Why?How to solve it?
PS:Maybe my post have some Grammar problem。I hope that you can Bear with it.
Try factory reset see if it helps.
Backup important information and personal stuff first.
Just try the procedure of taking the battery out, sim card, micro sd etc etc and see if that works...
are you using the stock battery?
i used to notice with my (so called) extended battery 2430mah Gold battery, the software would say it was 100% charge, but it stayed orange for around another hour or two, then eventually turned green...i assume this is because the phone software had misjudged the charge level...so although it THOUGHT it was 100% full, it was actually still charging?
so if you have changed the battery at all, leave it charging for a bit longer (only an hour or so) and see if it goes out?
should be safe, as the batteries themselves usually have an auto shut off safety to stop them from being over-charged.
I get the exact same on ALL custom ROMs, never on Stock though, would love a fix!

Since I unlocked my phone's bootloader, rooted and installed custom recovery I have the same problem too.
If I charge the battery with the phone turned on, the led turns green at 100% and everything is fine.
If I charge the battery with the phone off, the led stays orange forever even when I disconnect the charger. Then I have to remove the battery and insert it again so that the led turns off. If I wait enough time charging the battery reaches 100%.
This is a strange sympton that only started with the rooting/recovery flashing process.
Oh and BTW the way, I use stock battery but now I'm waiting for the arrival of two batteries I ordered on eBay.
One is a Li-Ion 1500 mAh and the other a Li-Polymer 2430 mAh.
Will see if the same happens when they arrive but I'm almost 100% sure this has something to do with the bootloader unlocking process.
Does anybody know how to fix this? I would really appreciate it.

Same as, pain in the arse!
Great news! At least on my phone this problem is gone.
You wonder how? Simply by updating recovery to v5.0.2.8 from ROM Manager.
I almost didn't notice it it but a few hours ago I plugged my phone to the charger while still on. After finishing my work I turned it off (no fastboot).
In the meanwhile I needed to use my phone far from the wall plug and disconnected the usb charger cable.
My gesture was to immediately remove back cover to remove the battery but fortunately I noticed the orange led went off.
So I decided to plug it again and wait for the charge to complete and for the green led. It did!
So run to the Market, download ROM Manager and let it update your recovery to the latest version.
I hope this annoying pest won't bother you no more.

Not what the problem was or related to, it was an outdated ROM manager app that caused it...
So I had this phone for a while now its starting to act up.
I pretty much killed the phone to 0-1% then plugged it in to charge and left it for 8 hours (sleeping), I wake up and find it only charged 3%, wow seriously? I fiddle around with it and it goes back to 0%?
Problem? Anyone had similar issue?
P.S I did search first, couldn't find any...

It's probably a dead battery or hardware issue. I'd go to your seller and ask him what to do. Most likely you'll get a new device!
TIP: Try to charge it through your USB-port in your laptop/pc, perhaps the power supply is damaged?
I've had this problem. It's not really a problem, and it's easy to solve.

Its completely turned off now, im charging it but the red light just keeps flashing on an off, gonna leave it in for 1-2 hours and see how it is.
Okay, I left it for around 1 hour but the red light has stop flashing, problem?
Anyone? I tried another charger like the iPhone but same result... HELP!
Have you tried holding the power button down for 10 seconds, it equivalent to a battery pull, and then see if it will charge.
John.
are u using custom recovery?
Now, the CWM Recovery has a bug that the phone cannot be charged when power off
I've faced your situation, I got into bootloader, flash back the official recovery first through bootloader, try your phone can be charged when power off

I can't turn the thing on but I connected the usb via to the computer and the notification is blinking red, I assume its charging, the thing is yesterday I unlocked the bootloader (was at 95%), rooted it etc then started playing with it until it reached 1% and left it to charge overnight but it only went to 3% :/
Hopefully it charges fully after 8 hour of leaving it plugged in to computer while I go to work.
I would not leave you phone charging unattended, as lin-ion battery sometimes vent flames, when they are faulty and you don't want your house burning down.
John.

That tip about plugging it into my laptop absolutely worked! I was panicking for a bit because my phone was stuck at the 0% boot screen and I thought it was bricked. But I followed this tip and it instantly started charging. Thank so much
This is the only forums that I know where to ask about my phone. lol. My Smartphone's battery is currently 0% right now. I plugged in the charger and it just vibrates sometimes it will turn on then when it's on the lockscreen it will say that you're on low battery I've removed the charger then I put it back in it will say that it's charging then it suddenly goes turn off. I'm on stock btw.
