Bricked? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. i just updatet my firmware official over sony ericsson. after that the handy wont boot. its vibrates but nothing happens then.
I tried to flash it. Flashing successful but still the same problem.
Its kinda retarded that all the custom roms worked but when i installed an OFFICIAL update its broken....
when i plug in the ac the led flashes green

It's just Sony Ericssons crappy update software being stupid. Get Sony Ericsson Update Service and use that to repair the software; it always works for me no matter what - it can take around 20 retries though -_-... Try removing the battery for 30 seconds after around 10 retries - I have no idea why this helps but it has in the past...

updater says" the phone contains modified software that cannot be updated"
beforce i flashed the original fw with wotanserver. so there cant be anything modified
flashing with wotan works btw. but the phone doesnt boot.
also tried with flashtool. flashing works but still doesnt boots. im ****ing pissed guys!:

you really need to read what wotanserver.com says
Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY CDA Programmin
CDA number is changed to make sure your phone will not revert to previous firmware & branding if you use official Update Service (SEUS).

so now you know why you can't use SUES any more atleast

hmmmm
I was at the same point, try following the same steps i did in order to revive my xperia play.
1. Download the same (or lower supported) build number SO that you had before you did all the (not legal ) things you did.
2. Flash it via flashtool, or with fastboot (i did it with flashtool).
3. Disconnect your phone and release the battery for 10 seconds.
4. Re-flash (do the step 2 once more).
5. Reboot normally or via fastboot (put the phone in fastboot mode (blue led) and open a command box inside the fastboot folder and run: -fastboot reboot).
6. Wait a little, as it's like the phone is new it will take some time rebooting, it may also some time in the sony ericsson logo, don't get mad, it's normal!
Hope that will help you a bit. Bye!

Can you enter recovery?

Did you tried to re-lock the bootloader?

[Q] Possible Bricked R800i

I very recently asked for help installing CM7 onto my phone. While following a fairly simple tutorial linked to me by the author something hasn't worked and I've been left with a brick. I managed to fastboot the boot.img then when rebooting I was asked to "spam" the volume button repeatedly until it entered another mode. It did not do this. Instead it simply left me with a blank screen. No Sony Ericsson logo and no booting into another mode as the tutorial described. Someone in the thread had the same issue and basically the author just washed his hands of it and asked that guy to make a thread. I did look at the troubled users profile for said thread but for some reason this forum is saying the search is down, so hopefully someone can help me at least get my phone working. I'm done with the rooting/romming shenanigans. If there is a way to just get my phone up and running then hopefully someone can tell me. Until then it's just a brick.
Edit - Tried updating via SEUS but it says the phone has modified software and cant be updated. :-(
Would flashtool work?? I have no idea how to use it tho but am downloading it. Looking for things on here is hard work. lol.
Is your boot loader unlocked? You didn't mention if it was or not. If its not then that's why your bricked.

Its unlocked. The tutorial before the one I mentioned above was about finding out if it was or not and it had a YES next to it in the menu. Along with my IMEI number etc, so I was told I was OK to go ahead with the other tutorial.
Flashtool Guide
Oh rght this should help you, okay. The answer to your question is yes flashtool should work, it sounds like you've got a botched install that's all if you doo this you should be fine
THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON YOUR PHONE BUT NOT YOUR SD CARD
Here's a quick rundown of what you need to do, Download flashtool, download an ftf file, flash the ftf file to your phone through flashtool and then as if by magic your phone should work. So let's begin
Step 1) Turn your phone off - Then leave it to the side.
Step 2) Download and install Flashtool Get flashtool from here
After it has downloaded install it but make sure you have remembered the directory where you've installed it.
Step 3) Download an ftf file. This is a package that contains the stock software that came with your phone and flashing this will therefore return your phone to factory settings or stock.
Here is a thread with a list of ftf files, download the one that corresponds with your phone.
After you've downloaded it move it the folder named firmwares in your flashtool directory. For example mine is C:\Flashtool\firmwares
Step 4) Install the drivers. Navigate to the drivers folder in your flashtool directory, for example mine is C:\Flashtool\drivers From there open the file named Flashtool-drivers.exe and install ALL of the drivers.
Step 5) Flashing the FTF. Once you have installed all of the drivers open flashtool. From there click on the flash icon in the top left corner of the screen. Select Flashmode then click OK.
Select the FTF file you downloaded and moved to the firmwares folder and then click OK.
You will then see flashtool say it is preparing files for flashing follwed by a popup. The popup will promt you to power off your phone, hold the back button, then plug the USB into your Computer.
After you have done this flashtool will begin flashing your phone. Do not remove the USB until it is finished.
Once it has finished (The log will tell you when it has) remove the USB and power on your phone.
The initial boot may take some time as needs to rebuild it's cache. Don't panic this is normal. After it has your phone shoudl now have booted and be on the stock software that came with it
Hope I helped, if you need anymore help PM me
Thanks for the help but I was just too over that phone so I sent it away for cash (even fuc*ed it was worth £32) and I've got a brand new Xperia Arc S. Thanks.

Reason: im trying to make a tutorial for fixing your phone because i KNOW other people were where i was when i bricked my XS and its quite annoying knowing that i didn't know how to fix my phone, i looked around on the internet and found not much for Xperia s... so i decided to experiment
HARD BRICK (No response when plugged in)
There is a few different types of bricks but i am writing this to help you unbrick in a FEW ways
if your xperia device doesn't do anything when plugged in then try holding POWER + volume up it buzzes once , then a few seconds later 3 times in a row then your device is unbrickable
REQUIREMENTS
unlocked bootloader??? (maybe im not my XS came with a unlocked bootloader LET ME know if it works)
Flash-tool with a stock FTF
Fastboot Drivers and flash-mode drivers Installed properly (NOTE you should be able to find them in the Flashtool Folder (where the app is installed should be a Driver app should be calleld Flashtool Drivers.exe (just select your devices to install and click yes to any warnings... its safe)
Flashtool Downloaded from here
http://androxyde.github.io/
Download from here FTF from here (find YOUR Device And download the CORRECT FTF for your device)
http://www.xdafileserver.nl/index.php?dir=Sony+(Ericsson)

02- open flash tool
03- Click on the little lightning shock button at the top left and click on flash-mode then ok
04- select your DEVICE (example Xperia S FTF should be called lt26I and acro s is lt28I)

06- Once done Flashing BOOT, it
SOFT BRICK (Boots but shuts off when during boots and starts again (boot loop)
for CWM users (only work if you have a backup)
01- Do a system restore is backup is present
or
01- make a backup
02-flash a ROM
03- copy a zip flashable stock ROM, flash and do a data restore
OR
01- Flash your Stock ROM FTF (using flashtool)

Hi,
We Already have a brilliant thread by ToledoJab regarding Bricking Recovery, in the General Section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849170
Have you checked that before posting a new thread on this topic??
Honestly i found other kind of brick it will make your phone stuck and even you press power + vol up it will do nothing all i can do is let the battery die (Ion can't remove battery) then i can charge and flash new rom and recover it
OP, I will ask you to search before creating a new thread, I understand you waiting to provide to the Community, but there is thread establish Here. Thank You

Bootloop after accidental re-enabling Init.d

Hello,
At first, sorry for my English, because I'm from Poland.
I have a problem: some time ago I've swapped the memory by rooting, installing Busybox, enabling Init.d and adding swap script to system/etc/init.d. Today, the swap unexpectedly stopped working. I've entered the Universal Init.d app to verify that Init.d is enabled. Unfortunately, I've accidentally clicked the Install option and restarted the phone. After that, my phone went in a bootloop.
Question is: how to unbrick phone, preferably without data loss? I have few important contacts on phone memory and I don't want to lose it.
My phone is Sony Xperia M C1905 with Android 4.3 (15.4.A.0.23) and Locked bootloader.
Please help.

may be you can use flashtool to the stock firmware , and you can download the stock firmware here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_d8uWGbkaetNHNXUGZXQkFIUTg/edit?usp=sharing, after that install the flashtool, and install the flashtool to that was place it i directory of flashtool installation folder that called flashtool-driver.exe, you can install driver that you need it, after that copy the ftf file that have you download it before and copy to flashtool installation folder in the firmware folder, after that open the flashtool select the thundfer/flash and select the ftf file and uncheck the data to avoid wipe data after flash it, so you don;t have to loose all of your contact , after that hit flash and wait for a while second until the flashtool prepare for flash it and if ready turn off your device and hold the vol down and connect your xperia m to pc, after that only wait until the flash process is completed, after completed turn on your phone and disconnect from pc and wait for a while minute untill your phone is boot up correctly ok, don't worry your data is not wipe ok:good:

OK, flashing now.
I'm a advanced Android user and I know about Flashtool, but before you posted I didn't know about flashing without data loss, that's why I wrote this thread.
EDIT: Thanks, that saved my phone!

ya you're welcome

flash mode is terminating after 1 minute / no possibility to flash ftf-roms

Hi there,
using the flashtool I am able to flash new recoveries but not the complete roms because of a timing bug:
connecting the XM via cable / vol down the device is recognized as flash mode.
Exactly after one minute the flash mode is terminating by itself - and this is to short to flash a new rom (neither the preparation of the files has been finished).
=> anybody a solution for my issue?
=> has someone a dl link for the 4.3 stock rom (15.4.A.1.9-CE) as a zip? Zip files could be used, but no ftf flash files
If I wait for the connection of the XM until flashtool says "connect in flash mode" then an "ERROR flashing - aborted" occurs. Why?
The BL was unlocked directly before the error-flashing...
Thanks for your responses.
Error from wrong flashtool
My flashtool version was 0.9.19.8 and during the blu-process the level meter stucks.
With "new" (or old) version 09.18.1 - everything worked well.

Unable to enter bootloader mode on one particular XZ2c but can on other XZ2c phones.

I bought a third XZ2c H8324 to install LineageOS onto. The first two phones I had no problems, but this third phone won't boot into bootloader mode for an unknown reason.
When I hold down the vol up button when plugging the phone into the PC, the LED flashes red and blue forever until I let go of the vol up button. Then the charge icon appears on the screen instead of the LED staying blue.
Background: I first backed up the TA partition which involved flashing firmware with newflasher then flashing again to the newest firmware with newflasher again. I'm wondering if I did something different and caused a problem. The files used are the same ones I used for the other two phones. I did notice after the firmware downgrade with newflasher that the shell output had an error:
Instead of the normal output at the last part of flashing with newflasher:
#Device is put now out of flash mode.
#Sent command: Sync
#Waiting sync to finish…
#……………… done
#Sent command: continue.
#Done.
#Closing device.
I got a timeout error after #Waiting sync to finish....
The same error occured when using newflasher to update to the latest firmware again. The stock firmware boots normally.
I don't know if using newflasher somehow caused the problem or not.
I don't know if bootloader mode worked prior to flashing the firmware because I didn't test it.
[edit: Issue resolved.
I decided to download another H8324 firmware with XperiFirm, this time I used the Australian variant. Then with Androxyde's FlashTool, I did Tools >> Bundles >> Create to make an .ftf file. Then flashed it with all check boxes in the Wipe-Sin catagory ticked.
I don't understand why this firmware fixed it and not the french one I used before, but whatever the case may be, if someone else encounters the same problem they can see my path to success.]
