Did the intuitive dialer get eliminated in 4.0.4, or is this unique to AOKP b29? On 4.0.3, whenever I started typing a name or number into the dialer, a list would come up below it with all of the possible contacts ... since I upgraded to AOKP B29, that feature seems to be gone.

Just noticed this myself. I don't understand why they would change that, it's a great feature.
Its a mod. It was never in stock.

This is exactly when happens after I click the search icon in the stock dialer…
EXDialer does this.
It'll be back in b30. B29 has a bug with T9 dialer.

I think the gnex dialer is beautiful but I hate how it does not have t9 predictive text for finding a contact very quickly. What alternate dialer does everybody recommend?

Dialer One gives you this option and seems to work fine on ICS.
Check out exDialer - a MIUI style dialer; T9; supports themes (including a nice ICS theme). I had been using DialerOne for 2 years and recently made the move to exDialer with no regrets
I have tried dialer one in the past but just downloaded exdialer with the ics theme and love it, thanks!

Contapps. Great Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare, and Linkeden integration, too!

+1 to this. I love it. it even has an ICS theme if you like the light blue color.
TouchPal Dialer is also nice.

Notigo is nice so that it can clear the missed calls. The zip will no longer work with modern versions of CWM but you can still extract the apk from the zip and put it into /system/app yourself and reset the permissions for the same effect.
Can someone extract the main ics dialer's icon and replace the exdialer app icon with it? Then thankfully post the apk here?

It's exactly what I just finished doing so it looks like I'm still using the stock dialer/contact apps. Couldn't be easier.
Typically I would use an Alt Launcher like Go Launcher, pin the exDialer to the bar, change the icon, then hide it in the main drawer.
Find attached exdialer v59 with main icon changed (the one from default phone app). Resigned. Please uninstall existing version on phone before installing or you will receive a certificate mismatch error.

Most ROMs have t9 dialing enabled in the stock phone app now. This was a big pet peeve of mine too, and one of the deciding factors to flash Gummy Nex. That, and the enabled AOSP tethering.
I'm using android Revolution that doesn't have t9 dialing plus others may prefer the Exdialer.

Sorry, wasn't being rude, I just wanted to let others know if they like the stock dialer and want t9, they have options

Download the app called exdialer and there's an ICS theme.

I used to use Youlu. It integrates SMS with the dialer, which I always liked. It's a very nice looking app and has some themes to pick from.
theres several roms that use the CM t9 dialer as well, its the stock 4.0 dialer with smart dialing (t9) added, im using gummy's rom and its worth flashing for.

I posted the dialer in this forum. Needs a a custom rom.
It worked better on Rootzboat V4 that I manually copied in. I since went to CM9 kangs and it locks up some. Notably when entering T9 digits. It just locks. I don't 100% think its the dialer but the rom itself.

hi, is there any notification software for android which provides notification in phone, sms or mail softwares like it shows 1-2 numbers on top right of the phone, sms applications icon?
That is based on your launcher. If you are using touchwiz, launcher pro, or go SMS launcher you can enable this feature. It will not work for Gmail because of something Google changed.

Try this:

Not sure if it gives you the bubble with a number though...
I want something that will entirely replace default contacts/phone/sms and mms on my phone. I saw this app called appropriately, Contacts by Contapps. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5jb250YXBwcy5hbmRyb2lkIl0.
It looks ok. Tried a few others and there seemed to be odd integration problems.
EX Dialer with Ice Cream Sandwich skin....
GOSMS Pro with Ice Cream Sandwich skin
Dialer one
Handcent SMS

I'm using contacts by conapps its actually really nice. It has everything in one. Handcent I found would not stick and got annoying. Tried GO too before and same thing would not stick and then found it really clunky but thanks so far for the suggestions!

Another vote for EX Dialer, very clean interface.
I am running now with EX Dialer and GO SMS Pro and both are pretty seamless and work well. Thanks for the input!
I am using Rocketdial it has all the options needed.

Why would anyone need a dialer or sms app on ICS? What functions are you missing?
Except maybe iPhone style messaging which I think is fanboyish.
One feature i'm missing with stock is T9 dialling (press number and get list of contacts which have those letters in it). Sms app...I havent really tried the stock one since i've been using Handcent earlier and GO Sms Pro on my previous handsets.
Youlu Address Book is perfect for me.

Dark skins.
I just installed my first ICS rom and love almost everything about it...
Except I hate the new 3 tab dialer. By removing contacts and groups from the top it forces me to use both the phone and contacts apps, which takes up another slot on my dock. I hate this.
Is there a GB phone.apk/contacts.apk or something that can allow me to run the old contacts.apk or phone.apk in ICS?
I have tried the 3rd party dialers such as dialer one, exdialer, go dialer, etc. I dislike all of them. They seem buggy and laggy and I don't like the kiddy look of most of them. Anyone have a solution?
Thanks
This bothered me at first too, but I realized that it does have a spot for all your contacts.
If your opening the phone, click on the tab for your favorites. Then scroll down past them and you should see your full contact list appear with the ability to quick search through them. It's a little different depending if your on a touchwiz or AOSP ROM but the functionality is still there in both. This solved my need for having a separate contacts app in the dock.

bump
I too am unimpressed with the ICS dialer and contacts. i would love to keep the ICS blue theme and the actual keypad, but go back to the GB tab configuration. is anybody working on this?
I, agree as well, i would like to use the dialer and swype keyboard from strongsteves odex blu GB Rom. Does anyone know how to do this?

Yeah, my wife loves everything ICS on her Skyrocket, except for the dialer. She still prefers the GB dialer. Anyone know a way to get that ported?
I am using Go dialer but my problem is that it takes a while to make a phone call. When I select a contact it takes like 3 or 4 seconds to engage.
Any suggestions
thanks
wow no dev interest?
ICS dialer sucks.
