CONTEXT AND ACTIONS:
1. I have looked at similar threads before posting. There was only one thread related to a phone from the Sony Xperia family (below: did not help resolve)
2. I have an Xperia Play R800i with the bootloader unlockable (*#*#SERVICE#*#* said so) running build 4.0.2.A.0.42
3. I followed the instructions on the Sonymobile site (I can't post the URL). I got stuck at step 13. Windows refused to recognise the driver from the file nominated in step 9.
4. I removed the Android SDK and downloaded it again. I ignored step 10 in Sony's post. The same problem ensued.
5. I scoured the webs and this forum for similar problems. I found one post on this forum which pointed to a different URL with a different driver file (sorry, had to restart my computer in between and cannot find that post again).
6. I downloaded a file called "root-play.rar", unzipped it within my download folder. I tried installing this driver file again. Same problem.
---
TL,DR: Problem: Windows is not recognising the driver for the S1 Fastboot USB device. I am unable to unlock my bootloader.
Request any assistance or advice on this aspect. Needless to say, this is the first time I am attempting to unlock the bootloader and I am completely green at this.
Thanks for reading; and in advance for any recommendations.
Try the tutorial from xperiagammer.com
Sent from my Xperia Play using XDA
It's called beginners guide to unlocking boot loader. Download the relevant files and follow instructions.

Try this drivers: http://www.mediafire.com/?1jqvtofgc13figr, for me it worked.
You should install it manually in device manager after connecting phone
Driver worked.
Thank you. That file has helped.
Although, I've run into a different problem now. I don't seem to have the fastboot.exe file in the Android SDK that I have downloaded. Well, that's fodder for another search in the forums.
How do I add to your "thanks meter"?
here u have fastboot (in rar archive).
and to thanks u need to use this button:

Yeah, i thought I might have got the language wrong, told you my spanish wasn't good
I think i had this error. Try simple things, like putting i8xx folder on desktop, or install and uninstall htc sync.
nothing...it simply doesn't install..there doesn't exist another method?i'm new in these things..
I did not installed HTC Sync (However it is said, that is required), just the HBOOT Drivers from Unrevoked's site. Everything is working tough.
BTW What windows do you use? Win7 HP 64-bit here. No Problems with installing.
Depending on what you want to flash, there are guides for doing this via Linux live CD for most things in the forums, might help if seven is being awkward.
Hey there forum. I made an account just to ask this question because I just spent 7 hours looking for the answer to what SHOULD be a simple fix. I have a T-Mobile HTC Wildfire S with the US RUU installed and the 1.09.0099 HBOOT as well. Now, I have tried to unlock my bootloader on the HTC website like you're "supposed" to. But whenever I put my phone into the bootloader and plug in it in as in the guide. Then I cannot get past step 8. Because my bootloader does NOT stay in "FASTBOOT USB" It goes back to FASTBOOT in around 30 seconds. I have gotten the command prompts in before it goes back but to no avail. When it is in FASTBOOT USB mode, it's as if it's not connected. Then when it goes to the regular FASTBOOT mode, then my Windows 8, 64 bit laptop (in case it was important), makes the sound that it does when you connect something with USB. Some help would be GREATLY appreciated because I am stuck with this phone and I need some CFW.
The drivers don't work on Win8 iirc.

This picture shows what my device manager looks like when my phone is in FASTBOOT USB.
And this picture shows what happens in the device manager after my phone drops out of FASTBOOT USB and into FASTBOOT. The computer makes the little connecting noise and then THAT.
Tbh, I dual-boot win7 and win8 just for my phone :/
Seeing how it seems you're just trying to unlock your bootloader and root, maybe borrow a friend's pc/laptop for the 30 minutes ?
Hello, I recently got xperia play, and decided to root my phone for better performance. Just for fun went to youtube and found this:
Then I remenbered this page, and just found few threads: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240285 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859.
My phone specs:

If I am correct, according to first thread above, I cant root my device and second one is saying that I cant install JB on my device.
AAAAAAAAND... Im totaly confused now and dont know what to do.
Can you be more clear on what exactly are you trying to achieve?
if you wanna root your phone you must enable "unknown sources" inside applications and also under developing you must enable "USB Debuging".
Then plug your phone in the usb while it's turned on normally and execute the run-me in the zerg rush files.
after that you can install rom manager and get a recovery going on,
when you do have a recovery going on you can use it to flash a new rom.

Ok, I rooted my device, what is rom manager? CM10?
In this thread you will be guided to install a recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437840
It's basically install the apk ask the apk to install a recovery and you're done.
Now you will have theability to boot into recovery mode.
To do so you have to keep pressing volume down as you turn on your device.
You will then be able to proceed to installing custom roms.
You might also wanna research for flashtools from there on.
Hey guys, I finally got my phone!
I want to install a custom ROM but first I need to unlock the bootloader and I'm having a nightmare doing it. Is there an specific thread where I can ask for help with, since I didn't find any I created this one but feel free to delete it.
On the FAQ thread I found this:
"First you need to unlock your bootloader. To do that, go to http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader. On the supported devices list, choose "HTC One (M8)"
If I go there, i am able to get up to step #5, but when I enter the command "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" I get that "fastboot" is not a recognized command.

I've searched on Google, but all thread (or most of them) only point to old devices or another brands. I also tried to use a root toolkit, but everything takes to that #5 step.
What am I missing here?

This will help you set up adb/fastboot in your System path, the rest is as you've already done...

If you now have adb in your system path you can run the commands in any location - makes life a LOT easier moving forward (and it applies to ALL Android devices)
So after trying some more new roms out I cant get back to stock rom bootloader unlocks and locks ok however I cant root phone
I have been following many different guides and this one worked.
Download XperiaS_LT26i_6.2.B.1.96_KernelOnly.ftf | 6.33 MB
Download FlashTool from below link, if you don’t have it.
Download flashtool-0.9.11.0-windows.exe
STEPS for ROOTING :- ( Below steps are for root 6.2.B.1.96 firmware Xperia S )
Workin on both Locked as well as UnLocked Bootloaders.
Enable USB Debugging and unknown sources option on your phone before proceeding. Do not use other kit version except V18.
Download Flashtool, Open it. Flash the “XperiaS_LT26i_6.2.B.0.211_KernelOnly.ftf” file on your Xperia S. It is the kernel of an old firmware of Xperia S which was rootable.
Reboot your Xperia S after flashing. Connect to PC in USB Debugging mode.
Do not forget to close FLASHTOOL. CLOSE FLASHTOOL , before proceeding next step or you will get serious error.
Extract the downloaded “DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip” file and run the “runme_win” file.
Follow onscreen instructions to root Xperia S and once it is rooted, device will reboot. Verify that you are rooted, run SuperSU app.
Now switch off your Xperia S. OPEN FLASHTOOL.
Now you need to flash “XperiaS_LT26i_6.2.B.1.96_KernelOnly.ftf ” file in order to get back the true kernel of Android 4.1.2 6.2.B.1.96 firmware of Xperia S.
After flashing, disconnect the phone from PC, reboot it and your Xperia S is now rooted and we are done with rooting Xperia S 6.2.B.1.96 firmware.
However Now trying to repeat to fix and get rooted and other stuff back on phone doesn't reboot and add super user.
Before I got the following
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now it just goes though the commands like it is doing something says done but does not reboot or show the popup like that.
Anyone got a working guide how to lock boot loader up proper n good think already done that and checked and says bootloader unlockable YES as as posed to unlocked
