Hi,
I'm about to update with a new custom ROM since the one I have didn't have A2SD+ and there's just not enough space (came with MoDaCo custom ROM without additions when I got it). But I can't find any guides on how to format my SD correctly with my MacBook, do you guys know any? And do I need to download Android SDK?
Also, how big is the difference between A2SD and A2SD+? I only have the 4GB SD that came in the box.
Thanks.
Can I use ROM Manager to partition my SD card?
EDIT: Sorry mods, should've posted this in General, I guess. Please move.
You can partition in recovery. I have a Mac too and that's the only way I did it.
The main difference between A2SD and the + variety is that Dalvik cache is also moved to the SD card when using A2SD+.
Thanks! But everything on my SD card will be erased, right? Will I still be able to update the ROM after? Or should I update first?
Sorry, first time doing this.
Backup all the contents of your card to your Mac first. Flash the ROM, then before booting up for the first time, partition your SD card. Boot up your phone and copy back the contents of your card to the FAT 32 partition. I used to set up my card like this: swap-0mb, ext2-512mb, fat32-remainder. Then convert ext2 to ext3.
Also remember to do a full wipe before flashing the ROM.

Okay, I will try that! Thanks!
Hi everyone !
I have a little issue with my HTC Desire, i've been trying to install APP2SD after i rooted it but something went wrong and now my phone is stuck on the initial HTC Logo ! I still have access to HBoot and Clockwork Recovery ! I guess I should flash my phone again with the generic rom but I have no idea about how to do that ! Can you please help me ??
There is probably a easier fix.
What rom are you on now and how did you try to install APP2SD?
I am on the latest stock rom !
I used r1-a2sd-desire-dalvik-fresh-signed.zip on a Goldcard but i was unable to repartition my sd card using clockwork mod ... and now my phone won't start !
No idea what the zip exactly does but try wiping dalvik cache in recovery (under advanced). If that doesn't work, install Leedroid NoA2SD with a full wipe to get your phone booting again or partition your sd card with Gparted and then install Leedroid A2SD (or any other rom you like).
Can you help me out with a full reset ??
I was so stay on a stock rom ! I am currently downloading this one
First it says to partition the SD card, should I partition my normal SD Card of the Goldcard (and how to do that??), also, should i put the .zip file of the rom on the regular SD card or the gold card for the flash ??
Really thank you for you answers !
To do a full reset, boot in to recovery and wipe data/factory reset and cache. You can try rebooting after this but i don't think it will work.
To install a new rom:
Create the ext partition (i would do it on the normal card, don't know how goldcards are affected by partitioning). Use Gparted to partition, there should be enough info on how to do that if you search. Also copy all the stuff you want to keep to your pc before partitioning.
Copy your stuff and the rom back to the partition sd (fat partition)
Boot in to recovery
Wipe data/factory reset and cache
Install zip from sd
Wait and reboot.
It seems to be working fine ! Thanks a lot !
Another question and please sorry if I sound stupid ... but do I have to flash a new radio ? for now it seems like i'm receiving GSM network !
No

Hi
Playing around with my rooted htc deisire i tried to flash the new RcMic HBOOT
After doing god knows what
i cant start my phone and keep having this message
Error in CACHE: recovery/log (No space left on device)
please help
Give us more information what you did before.
Did you full wipe/factory reset & wipe cache? What partitions do you have on SD Card, are you S-OFF?
yes
i am s-off
i did wipe cache/wipe factory reset
i tried to restore to my lee droid 2.4 but my phone keeps looping from the start
What partitions do you have on SD Card, which HBOOT you are using, which version of the ROM you flashed?
i flashed this rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988570
i have no partition
hboot 6-93.1002
Did you read first post?
It clearly says you need 1GB+ EXT2/3/4 partition on SD card. Thats why you getting errors and end up with bootloop.
Also if you have Stock HBOOT be sure to flash A2SD+ version, and CM7 version if you flashed CM7 HBOOT partition table.
Before flashing again be sure to perform Full Wipe/Factory reset and Cache wipe!

I cannot find rcmixs hboot. Only recommend one for this rom, which is cm7. You flashed this one? If, you cannot restore leedroid rom, because the /system partition of cm7 hboot is to small. If not, wright partition sizes of your hboot here.

sorry guys cant really follow
what you are suggesting?
right now i cant flash anything
Reformat your SD Card, make FAT32 partition + 1GB EXT4 partition. (backup data if you have important files on SD)
Full wipe/Factory reset + Cache wipe.
Download RCMixS_v2.0_A2SD+_BravoHboot.zip if you have Stock HBOOT or RCMixS_v2.0_A2SD_CM7Hboot.zip if you flashed CM7 HBOOT earlier and put it on SD Card.
Flash it, and wait... it takes a bit longer on first boot!
Enjoy.
if i dont want to flash rcmix and want to go back to my old lee droid rom, i have to do all these things you describe?
Yes you need, but just flash LeeDroid ROM instead of RcMix.
You need to do the rest tho because LeeDroid require 512MB+ EXT2/3/4 partition too for A2SD.
Btw. you need to repartition your SD card only once, then you just wipe and flash other ROM if you want, but EXT partition is mandatory!
repartitioning using which method?
g parted or through windows?
sorry for all the questions

GParted. With windows you cannot create an ext partition, because ext is a linux file system. But i would always use gparted or recovery of phone to partition sd card and never windows.
If U dont wanna use Gparted, then
use "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition" in windows. (freeware-use google)
Can make all partitions, with no problems!
thanks very much guys
just finished
everything as before
followed your direction and i am back to business
Will this work for partitioning htc desire in windows. Tried Gparted but for some reason it wasn't working for me on boot.
Hey guys,
I'm a pro when it comes to phone hacking but I somehow managed to flash the RCMixHD Rom. I remembered that there quite some steps involved (partitioning sd and whatnot). But since this Rom is not being developed any further (and because I just want something new), I'd like to go back to an AOSP Rom like Cyanogen.
But since there were so many steps involved in flashing RCMixHD, I really don't know how to reverse all this.
I would really appreciate if you could help out a noob.
Thx,
Kalle
just do a nandroid backup, then wipe everything (data/factory reset, cache, dalvik) before flashing the rom...
maybe update your radio
How about the partitioned sd? At which point should I do that?
Download Gparted, and use it to repartition your sd card before you flash your new rom.
Remember to copy your nandroid backup to your pc before using gparted, as partitioning your sd will delete its contents... And to install a completely different rom I would advise making a wipe system (or format system, depend on your recovery)
Tapatalking
As iruiz2 said, copy your nandroid to your pc (after you make afresh one of course) in case something goes wrong. Then repartition your sd card using GParted.
It's recommended to do a first partition of fat32 then a second 1gb partition of ext4 (so if you have a 4gb card, do 3gb as fat32 first, then the remaining 1gb as ext4).
Place the new rom of your choice on the root of your newly partitioned sd card.
Boot into recovery, then wipe everything (factory reset, caches, dalvik cache).
Then install the zip of your new rom.
Reboot.
Enjoy.
A good guide is here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
Thanks a lot guys. Will try it tomorrow. Will keep you posted...
Ok, so, my sd is already partitioned with a 1gb ext2 and the rest with fat32. Cos I can't find my usb stick (and since I don't have a disk drive), I can't make a bootable gparted live usb thingy right now. Do I really need to wipe the ext2 partition? Or even format it with ext4?
Thanks!
If it is already partitioned, you dont need to do anything. Just do a data wipe and flash your new rom.
Thanks again guys. Worked like a charm. I'm running Oxygen now.
Hi guys, sorry for the newbie question but here I go. Just now I decided to flash a new ROM so I do what I normally did before I flash a new ROM (backup my sd card contents and do a nandroid backup). After I done those, I reformat my sd card using my laptop and place the ROM I wanted into the sd card. After I flash the ROM I get stuck in the HTC screen and my backup doesn't work but luckily I manage to revive my Desire. After that I notice that my previous partition that I made using gparted is gone and that's why the ROM didn't work at first. So, am I still able to recover my lost partition from my sd card or they are gone for good?
If you have a working nandroid backup, you can try to recreate your partitions first and restore then.
Windows laptop? The reformat using will have wiped your Ext partition. As said recreate fat32 and Ext using Gparted and restore nandroid (assuming under AmonRa or 4Ext recoveries you included sd-ext) or flash new Rom.

I did the full wipe via recovery but I reformatted my sd card using my laptop and I think that's the problem since the process wipe out everything including the partitions I made before. And thanks for the answer, greatly appreciate

Yes, a windows laptop and unfortunately it has wiped my previous partition. I did manage to partition it again but I found out that my sd card size is reduced. So does the reformat process wipe out my old partition for good or I still can somehow recover back my lost partition?

Although I'm not an expert in partitioning but I can provide some info about this. Firstly, how you partition your sd card (gparted, rom manager or other methods)? And which partition you made (EXT3/4)?

The ext partition itself is gone, but if you re-partition using Gparted, copy your sd card backup from laptop onto sd card, then providing your nandroid included sd ext backup a restore should get you back to where you were.
