Hey guys, these are some early unboxing videos of the HTC one X and as you will see, all the videos clearly show that the phone comes with a normal headset and not the Beats headset as claimed .
sucks..gotta buy it seperatly
It does suck a little bit, but for the price (about £30) you can buy far superior earphones.
So yeah, a pain, but not the end of the world
Guys.. be happy about it, really.
I never wanted to have a Beats Headset with it.
A friend of mine has the Sensation XE/XL which comes with Beats Audio (and Beats Headset), he said the phone is beast, but the Beats headset is total crap.
The name sounds cool 'Uhhh original headset of Beats', but the quality of the headset is worse than HTC's standard headset.
He said it sounds horrible and any other headset would be better.
I, for myself, have bought good Sennheiser Headphones for 120€ to use with the Htc One X.
The Beats Audio is just an equalizer setting, which 'should' make the music sound better, also by adding more Bass to it.
But anyway... the Beats headset which normally comes with HTC phones sounds bad and Beats headset itself breaks very, very fast.
I'd be happy that I don't get such crappy headphones with it.
HTC knows that it was a mistake to give such heaphones with their high quality phones, that's why they decided in most cases (and even staff of HTC said so), to not include a beats headset as that would lower the quality.
Beats Audio is overrated. The equalizer setting is nice, the beats headset isn't.
Just get some Sennheiser's and you'll be more happy than you would have been with Beats, over-rated stuff.
I too don't care much even though if it were there I would've been happier, but those headsets really really sucks. Most people like those headsets that goes in the ear not those ones

Overrated.....but comes for free so why not take it? If anything, resell it for profit.
Beats aren't terrible, it depends what kind of music you enjoy listening to. Definitely better for more modern stuff like dubstep etc...hip hop/R&B
As for Beats Audio, it's an equalizer right now but they're going to integrate it a lot deeper
any good in-ear earphones that can control music and pick up calls to recommend? previously i was hoping they will give the earphones similar to those in sensation xl, that are in-ear and can control music and pick up calls.. guess that is happening this time round.

I am very satisfied with the sound of Zune on my Optimus 7.
I suppose that with Zune all WP7 devices will approximately have the same sound quality.
The Omnia 7 is one of the best WP7 device, so I think you should not worry.
Try some AKG earphones for instance. I've got the K319 and they are simply amazing.
http://www.digitalversus.com/akg-k319-p374_5037_170.html
For an in-ear version, AKG K370.
Otherwise I find Sennheiser quite good also.
According to GSMArena, the Omnia has like 10dB less dynamic range than the Galaxy S, plus stereo crosstalk like hell.
And no equalizer?
The equalizer is a HTC specific feature. Since Microsoft ostensibly supplied all drivers, I suppose the DAC used in the HTC devices has a hardware DSP that can do all the SRS and EQ stuff, controlled by the HTC sound application.
I did read a review somewhere stating the Omnia sound quality is not as good as other WP7 phones.
It feels like every manufacture has cut corners on the first generation of WP7 phones.
Phone quality and earphone quality seem fine to me. The external speaker though tends to struggle only when watching videos and sometimes games with the volume set to low (about 1/30 - 3/30), what I mean by struggle is some sounds dont get through, it just mutes at some parts. Playing music seems find though.

Pick up some good in ear headphones. MEElec M6s are what I use.
And yeah, don't ever use the supplied headphones from your devices. They will almost always let you down.
Audio OMNIA 7
High quality audio and good volume level !
(after one week with it)
thanks for the feedback guys, most appreciated. ive managed to get hold of 2 pairs of headphones (whilst at work) and they are both much better than the ones supplied with the phone, even though they are not very good headphones. the only small issue now is that the omnia 7 isnt very loud at all. are there headphones that can improve this? the ones i used were 100db.

The review (Engadget) said the supplied headphones were no good (they really were nitpicking), if you put in a good pair of headphones it will sound great.

Yes, as said before the AKG K319 definitely make the volume louder. No comparison.

Well yes, but my point was "you aren't buying a phone that doesn't have an equalizer for quality sound, are you?". If they didn't build it in they didn't really care to make it a good music player.
I know that true kosher audiophiles don't believe in equalizers and only listen to flac on Cowon players and such, but that's religious stuff I don't want to touch. In reality, with crappy headphones (and that means everything that costs less than $300), and even with decent tolerable ones an EQ is a must have thing. Especially with the kind of crap hardware OEMs like HTC and Samsung put in their phones.
I can't totally agree.
Good music players don't use Equalizer (but I can understand that people like to use it)
Samely a good motor does not need a turbo.
Well, like I said, if you listen to lossless audio on perfect hardware using high end headphones, and also have perfect hearing - sure, you don't need an EQ. With mp3s on HTC and Samsung phones it's a must have feature. It won't make miracles and won't make those phones decent players but can at least make the sound somewhat tolerable.
thanks for the input, ill definately be getting a new pair of headphones, engadget were right to nitpick because it really does show up as being a quiet phone.
By the way, did anybody try the in-ear Sennheiser CX 400-II on its phone?
http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheise...ssic-line_cxseries-in-ear-earphones-cx-400-ii
I heard they are pretty amazing. I am willing to purchase them, but if somebody could give me its feedback it would be nice
funny you should mention that, i was looking at getting a pair of the sennheiser CX 300 II but if 400 is better then i will do that instead.
Nice,
I will be happy to get your opinion on it.
PS: Don't buy it on the Internet. There are a lot of fake of this earphone.

Not sure how you work that out, given it makes an engine far more efficient, however that's a debate for a different type of forum!
Ok so today i put my One X, Sensation XL, iPod and Sensation classic to music test
HTC didn't not really lie when they said now Beats is included in software and let me explain why
If you use the iPod earphones, standard old HTC earphones and urBeats with the Sensation XL, you find the best audio is coming from urBeats, second place goes to the iPod earphones and finally ofcourse the old messy HTC earphones
but then i expected the included One X to do badly on the One X, turns out urBeats is doing very badly even if you choose urBeats profile, the included One X headset actually comes best a bit better or equal to the iPod earphones, which are not bad to begin with, certainly miles ahead of the old HTC stuff, the One X earphones does best with urBeat profile very similar to the quality of urBeats on XL, which are for some reason rendered useless on the X
of course this is all subjective and depends on my audio preference
but my point is, it seems the Sensation XL was simply detecting the urBeats set and enabling the beats improved profile, has nothing to do with the quality of urBeats itself
on the One X those profiles are open for you to choose from and the include inbox earsets is so incredibly close to the iPod ones, not a bad deal if you ask me!
The included beats profiles sound really good and we have tons of profiles to choose based on our test and they work globally too, much better beats/audio than the sensation XL!
I find the audio quality far better on the one X stock headphones on my one X compared to the endymion Rom (sensation xl) for my desire S using the same phones.

to be honest, the earphones are good and i wouldt have mind them if they were in-ear and had music control instead of pause play function only..
been using in-ears for far to long to go back to non in-ear earphones..
I have been using klipsch s4i and Bose Mie2i with my phone and the output was great compared to the output with my iPod touch. Previously with my DesireHD there is no comparison of the sound quality. Thanks to the beats audio.

Indeed, the new earphones from the One X are not bad and way better than the standard HTC earphones from earlier phones. But I still have the Beats in-ear headset from my Sensation XE and that sounds way better than the ones out of the box.
Hi, did anyone tried to use some high-end in-ear earphones? Like Sennheiser.
I have and the sound is brilliant, bassy and crisp
tested my klipsch s4i vs the included urBeats by Monster earphones. (beats headset is included @ vodafone one series devices)
the beats do have a better bass but the s4i sounds more natural, the midrange is a lot clearer.
sadly the cable remote of the s4i won't work completly, pause and play is possible, but no track jumping.
anyways, i will he selling my beats headset, the s4i are the better earphones for me, much lighter, much more confortable and i think the better sound
(so if you want just testet urbeats... pm me, they are like new)

As far as I can see there is just one Beats profile and option to choose headset. All other profiles are regular profiles.
At first, changing these profiles didn't do anything to me. Then I found out that PowerAMP is going around all those profiles, it's an option: Audio Engine > Advanced Tweaks > Direct Volume Control. It's enabled by default and for me it is better that the stock/beats profiles. I can also further tweak equalizer to my liking/headphones I'm using, to get more/less bass.
Nothing wrong with beats. Enabling it sounds like enabling that PowerAMP option + adding some bass boost.

Yes, that's the "choose headset" option I mentioned too.
I wonder, why is audio quality so bad when beats if off or when DVC is off in PowerAMP? The difference is so easy to notice.
I'm using sennheiser headphones with poweramp. Sounds great but can't see the Beats button in power amp... Just SRS. In any case, it still sounds great with SRS but anyone else have this issue with poweramp build 488?

I don't think there is Beats button in PowerAMP? I think you need to go into Settings > Sound and enable Beats there, then disable DVC in PowerAMP. As long as DVC is enabled, PowerAMP has direct control over audio hardware.
Now I know many people dislike beats headphones and think there not good for audio quality (which I agree on for all the beats headphones EXCEPT the pros) but yer Ive had solos studios and now pros and I gotta say man the sound from the pros with this phone is amazing, blows my sensation out the water. My biggest complain about beats in general is that its very overpriced, fooling people into thinking they are getting more than they are. But I can see it's attractive offer to many people especially when they have beats profiles in the phones, instead of profiles for Shures, Sennheisers, Sony and all other popular ones. And I can see the beats profile does a good job when enabled, no argue here, but I was always getting the same from PowerAMP and it's DVC.

One google it to find out what chipset your phone has. Second using beats audio is the whole point of listening to music. And without that it still gives you good sound. Do your research first before getting a phone

It uses the on board audio on the tegra as I've seen on the files for example is alsa files been given a tegra name but could be something else but just assume it's a nvidia chipset.
Sound is ok not bad maybe slightly better than the Yamaha but not as good as the Wolfson.
Also this phone had aptX for high quality streaming via Bluetooth. I've got my Bluetooth receiver yesterday which also has aptX and will be testing it over the next few days with my iems which are pricey themselves.

Beats Audio is not a panacea for sound quality. All it does is essentially bass the boost and volume a bit. As a result, mids and highs suffer from the 'enhancement.' Just because its from the 'Beats' brand doesn't mean it has to boost sound quality. Beats headphones in general aren't exactly spectacular, and are insanely overpriced for what they offer as it is.
Its more of a marketing gimmick which equates to little more than a preset equalizer.
Many audiophiles prefer to disable the 'sound enhancements' these vendors provide, so that they can listen to their music as it should sound originally, or with their own equalizer tweaks.
So no, 'listening to beats audio' isn't the whole point of listening to music.

Yes you are right in what you say. It is just another equalizer. But still a good one to have and another reason in why this is a good phone to have. So for me at least Beats does make the phone sound better. Hence why i advised to use it. But my apologies sometimes i fall for the marketing gimmick instead of using common sense
I have a pair of basshead headphones and was trying to listen to music, but even turning up the media volume all the way to the end the sound quality was mediocre. Couldn't hear barely any mids or highs and the bass wasn't being driven enough. Only tested on google music -- don't want to have to buy a 3rd party music player just to boost the sound (poweramp, voodoo).
Reason its a little bit of a disappointment is when you listen to a lot of music and enjoy quality sound, spending nearly $700 on a phone you expect it to be able to perform sound quality wise.
What are your guys thoughts on sound quality? I want to play most of my music through google music and if I'm out where I don't want to be streaming, just load playlists in the default music player.

Try to go to menu -> audio enhancements. There you can find in the top-left corner a menu to choose which headphone you have. Default it will be on "others" (at least I think it's called others, it's called overig in Dutch), but if you select beats urBeats or beats tour, depending on which ROM/version you are on, it sounds much better. I agree, it sounds like crap default . The beats selection WILL work on other headphones. I use it on both my Sony over-ear and my Shure in-ear.

Ah, yeah of course, the stock headphones are a joke, kind of insulting HTC even included them in the Box.
I paid quite a bit for my Earphones as I love my music, and I've used them on many Phones and I cannot fault the One X audio quality
I have worked in recording studios most of my life and can honestly say that Beats headphones are just a gimmick. If music was intended to sound this way what a shallow experience it would be. If you buy a £30 set of Sennheiser PX100 II's they will out perform beats by a mile and thats on, no enhancer and headphones other under settings. Go into any hifi shop and give them an audition.

Hi to all!
What do you think about the external speaker? To me, it's nearly 0 improvement from HTC Desire. More over, I think the Desire sounds louder (just for high frecuencies).
It's true that the mids frecuencies are clearer on the One X, but I expected more quality.
It sounds good on mine with no effects and sennheiser ie8. It's not cowon but beats Samsung. I think your problem is your headphones.
It is not just about how original it sounds compared to the source, it is also about the taste of the listener. End of debate.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Possibly the end of the debate, but the One X is biased completely towards beats, just look at the volumne difference. If you switch beats off the volumne drops by a huge amount, this is all to lure the listener into selecting the beats profile. what is needed is a graphic equaliser built into the player so the listener can adjust the sound for the best experience.
I have a pair of in-ear cx870, and Beats Audio with the urbeats profile is definitely the best to boost most music; otherwise, "no effects" works fine. However, even though I'm no audiophile, my SGS with Voodoo did sound better...
I'm no audiophile either, but the beats enhancer sounds great with my Audio Technica M50's.

WHAT IS BEATSAUDIO?
OK, so now in my new HTC One V, when I connect a headphone, it says "beatsaudio enabled".
When I turn off beatsaudio, NO Different things happen. The sound is just a little louder with beatsaudio.
So, what's beatsAudio?
Is it a different headphone? Is it the one that came with HTC One V?
Is it a part or a technology in this phone? (like this phone 'supports' beatsaudio, etc.)
What's the difference between iBeats, urBeats, etc.? (are they different headphones or some kind of technology?)
And lastly, What does beatsaudio do? Just makes the sound louder in headphones or something else?

--> Slightly better sound chip with audio isolation.
