I think nexus torch from market has an option for root users to alter the brightness of the torch.
I could be wrong though!

I don't know if it's bright enough but have you tried the apk from the MIUI roms?
I use MIUI freshly squeezed. Check out the screenshot via my sig.
It has the same bright as the sense ROMs... I want the full bright..!!!

If I were to flash a pure stock rom on my brothers dhd and unroot it, would that stop apps noticing the custom rom, so he could use internet banking apps for example?
