Hi,
One of my friend wants to buy Galaxy W.
I have stopped him to look over Nexus S once.
I am not able to find much reviews in the net so I have ended up asking here in XDA.
Please suggest me to suggest my friend....
I'd go for the Nexus with my eyes closed. Community support is just a galaxy head of the Wonder.
I would say it depends on your priorities... If you prefer a bigger screen or a much better community support, go by Nexus S. If you prefer better processing power or a smaller phone, Galaxy W.
Galaxy w. Nexus s is sometimes unusable due to speed. And we also have the best rom yet...CM9! it isn't availible for nexus s I don't think soo...GALAXY WONDER!!! Lol

Hi, just did a compare there on GSM Arena site:
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3620&idPhone2=4114
Nexus got no external SD, but got 16G. Internal 16G !!!
Super Amoled screen.....4in vs 3.7in
DLNA (think W may have just with other Sammy devices???)
Biggest thing, Stock ICS.......
But W processor faster, IGHz vs 1.4 GHz....same RAM, 512
Yet W, no ICS??????
Not sure which I would go for now.....but I did go for W!!!!!

sammy is butt sucker ... they make great phone like sgw but install a weak kernel ... they are messing with our heads here -..-
I think it depends on what you prefer.
If you like a big Johnny, take the nexus s.
If you like a smaller Johnny, which has a little more power, take the W.
But the community and the developers are way more active.
If i was you, I'd pick the nexus.

My frends... its over many weeks and days.. I'm looking for a new phone.. I want to know which is the best phone... is it a Galaxy note! Or GALAXY S II or THIS GOOGLE NEXUS ...?

Well since your asking in the Nexus forum most of us will say the Nexus. If you ask in the Note forum, most of them will say the Note. If you ask in the SGS2 forum, most of them will say the SGS2. It is all preference. I had the SGS2 before this Nexus and I prefer the Nexus. The SGS2 is a great phone, but I prefer Google Phone's so Nexus it is for me. I will probably never buy anything but Nexus from now on. I had the Nexus S 4G and when I upgraded that, I missed the Nexus badly even though I upgraded to a more powerful device. I say get the Nexus. To me the Note is too big and I wouldn't get the sgs2 because the sgs3 is going to be out sometime this year. I would wait on the Galaxy S 3 or get the Nexus if I were you.
I wouldnt get S3 even it is the most powerful ever. I learnt my mistakes getting a non-nexus phones since last 2 years. Got me a Nexus S and now Gnex, its Nexus line for me from now on. All this closed sources from Sammy and others make me stay with nexus all the time.
Well then....THEY ARE ALL THE SAME. Honestly on a day-to-day usage basis you won't be able to see any real significant differences, 2 cores, 1gb of ram, and a good GPU on all of them.
NOW BENCHMARKS
Thats where you'll see the differences.
Nexus all the way!!!
I used to have a SGS (Vibrant). The only thing I hate about Samsung is that they do not provide updates as quickly as they come out. I have to rely on custom roms and such to get the latest OS from Google. That's why I bought the GNex, as long as you are or flash to yakju, then you will get the updates as soon as Google churns them out. And if you have a penchant for flashing ROMs, then the GNex will still serve your purpose.
I say go with the GNex, you can always sell it if you want to. Also, the GNex is the only pentaband phone that's readily available with an Android OS. If you buy the GSM version then you can either use it on ATT or TMobile and still get 3g from both.
Good luck!
i regret buying my nexus, unreliable battery life. if no other phone got my interest between now and iphone w/4g speed, im jumping ship.
All phones are the same....a slab with an OS on it....the question u need to ask is do u want a stock Google experience, or do u want a custom interface? u will not notice any speed differences, or anything like that because the naked eye just doesnt! people say all this crap about quad core and all this, but theres no need for it! these phones are already fast as hell, i just dont get how much faster people expect it to get! What does "fast" mean? its not like u boast around ur benchmarks to people (unless ur on XDA all the time)
I don't think you will notice a huge difference between both phones.
It might be better to wait a few weeks for Galaxy S3.

" It might be better to wait a few weeks for Galaxy S3. " <= That's correct
im surprised no one mentioned the 720p screen, i think this is the best feature of the gnex over the S2. if you do a lot of browsing or watching videos on your phone you will def notice the difference between the gnex and S2. OS is not as important as hardware esp. if the phone has a strong dev community like the S2. the S2 already has roms running 4.0.3 but if you prefer to stay stock and depend on the carrier or google for updates then the gnex is the way to go.
Even on the hardware side the gnex is behind the S2 in some areas like the cpu(skyrocket) and the 8mp camera. The S2 with ICS is faster than the gnex, there's quadrant benchmarks that put it over 4200 mark with 4.0.3. Some will disagree with me here but i really miss the SD card slot, as i have the gsm gnex it only comes with 16gb. i have about 3 gigs free now and have to delete stuff from my phone more often. I still pick the gnex over the S2 any day for the screen though, 720 x 1280 is a huge jump over 480 x 800 on screens bigger than 4 inches. I can read text on websites without having to zoom on the gnex, just squint a little whereas on the S2 text is just a blur without zoom.
I love design of GNEX than S2

I'd wait for the SGS3. The SGS2 is better than the GNEX in ALL but screen and looks department.
Had a play with my GF's GS2 yesterday, and WOW is it faster than my GNEX.
GS3 will blow GNEX into 1990, sod the google experience.

The SAMOLED+ screen on the SGS2 is just gorgeous though. That's what I primarily miss after going to the Nexus. The colors were better, and it was so luminous, that I would have it on minimum most of the time.
I do like the higher resolution I have now, but that isn't everything when it comes to a display.
I also would have liked to have my 32gb SD card carried over here.

3 days ago, the Galaxy Nexus was the first and the only device to receive the latest version of android : Jelly Bean.
This version adds so much smoothness and improvements to ICS that some people are giving up on buying the S3 coming from the Nexus.
Assuming S2<S3, you just got a logical explaination to as why you should get the Galaxy Nexus ( GSM if you can ).
Not an other on, gotta get a post in before the mods come

Here are the strengths of both phones over each other,
S2 over nexus
- Better camera
- Better GPU performance which doesnt mean much in day to day usage but for sure matters in 3D gaming as you get higher FPS
- More compact
- SD card slot
- Better speaker
- Better accessory market
Nexus over S2
- Bigger and better screen
- Much better future software support
- Looks way better in my opinion
- LED notification
- Better audio quality from headphones
The fact that the nexus S is getting jelly bean is huge, just goes to show how freaking long the galaxy nexus is going to be supported. That alone to me is far bigger advantage than all the other advantages the S2 has.
I'll say the biggest con of the galaxy nexus is the really weak speaker and only 16GB memory for the GSM version.
The biggest con of S2 is the low resolution screen and poor future software support.
If you have to think about it just get the S2. To even second guess the nexus is an insult to us. Its an amazing phone.

I picked the Nexus over the S3 and One X, so I would definitely pick it over the S2.
After using stock android, Jelly Bean in particular, everything else is really awful to me. Touch wiz is so bad. The Touchwiz apps are not very nice looking compared to stock ics/JB. I would get the Nexus for sure. I even highly value camera Quality and I decided that having better software is more important than camera.
Today I bought galaxy nexus and sold my Galaxy S II... I love Galaxy nexus bcoz of wide screen, better UI and direct support from Google beating apple.. hehehe I love you nexus ... I lost interest in SII bcoz SII Sucks with no more support from jelly bean very soon... even updating 4.0.4 version might get long month.

+1. Had an s2 for a few months. Sold it to buy a gnex. Don't regret it in the least.
There's no need to think such thing, SGS2 is not even close to GN. The screen resolution itself is hideous.

Hi guys,
I sold my S2 because the screen was broken but now I'm thinking about buy another one.
My doubt is, should I buy another SII or instead go for the Gnexus?
SII - > 250€
Galaxy Nexus -> 275€
Both are new phones and I have the chance to buy for a great price.
I know many of you will say "go for Nexus 4" but it isn't coming to Portugal soon and I need a phone ASAP (nexus 4 is out of stock 4 life).
I know pros and cons of both, but they look very similar and my kind of use fits the both.
My question is, with these prices, which phone would you go?

In my opinion you should try Galaxy Nexus, like I did. I had S2 over 13 month. In short words:
Design = GNexus
Screen = Gnexus
Android = Gnexus
Louder speaker = S2
Funny fact: in Poland new Gnexus is cheaper than S2
And what about:
GPU - S2
Radio - S2
Camera - S2
Tricky decision!

S2 will not be supported a lot anymore but if you get galaxy nexus, you'll at least get the next Android. Also the development on this phone is just crazy. In my opinion, galaxy nexus is a much better phone for 25 extra pound.

Not a decision at all. 1280x720 display is infinitely better than 800 x 480.
That's true, S2 has just received its first leak of JB 2 weeks ago, I believe you guys already have it for months! And if you have a custom rom installed, and another official version comes out, you directly install it over the custom rom? Or the developer updates it to the last official version?
But development is very good in S2 foruns, very good dev's there.
And what about the size, it feels good in hand? For sms, I use T9, is easy to write?
I believe I'm getting a Nexus.

I had an S II for about 12 months then sold it and bought a GNex. My main reason was "updates" as I could not bear anymore sticking to ICS while JB and whatever comes after is probably going for GNex although both of them have the same price.
I think the S II has better hardware in CPU and GPU, but I really did not find much of a difference practically as GNex is really smooth on JB. I did not use it on ICS but seems it was not as smooth as it is now on JB, so probably it does not matter having faster CPU and GPU as long as you are able to run the latest android which is always more optimized than the previous versions thus running smoothly
I really hated TouchWiz and the Vanilla stock experience is really enjoyable for me!
Loud speakers are not an issue for me especially after installing a mod which requires root of course and can be found in the Themes and Apps section.
So I doubt you will really regret switching to a GNex especially after using the S II so a change should be welcomed
Good Luck
Btw, I saw that gnexus doesn't has toggles, is there a option to enable it? Or it exists in custom roms?

wowowow hold on a sec. I'm portuguese too, where did you get those prices? I have only seen 329 for the GNex and 400 for the SII.
i had the tmobile s2 which had the s3 cpu and that phone was laggy as hell and the phone looked like crap with the resolution it has. every icon looks so damn big and ugly. playing games on it even looked like crap. the only thing the s2 has over the gnex is the micro sd card slot. i really wish i had one on my gnex. lol plus you know you will always get the last android updates with the galaxy nexus and it runs pretty damn smooth for an older phone with old hardware in it.

ok (escreve em inglês neste forum).
IMO, the Nexus is really better. I will get it in Christmas probably.
Why the Nexus wins:
-Started to be sold later and will get all the Google updates (and custom ROMs more than the SII);
-Curved screen, IMO this is an awesome design (never saw any phone like this);
-Higher resolution and screen;
-IMO the GPU is better;
Why the SII wins:
-Super AMOLED Plus screen;
-Gorilla Glass (altough reviews say that it doesn't make a difference on the Nexus;
-SD Card support;
-Camera;
Other notes:
-Same processor;
-Both have NFC;
-Nexus battery is a bit bigger, but almost the same.
The support for the Nexus should be all you need.

I've always liked the S2, and now that the S3 is available, the contract costs for the S2 are beginning to fall....
On the other hand....I can't just bin my W.....I've spent a lot of time and done a lot of research to get it running as smoothly and as up to date as it is......and there's still more I could do.....
So what would you guys do? What would be your ideal upgrade phone?
WOULD you upgrade if/when the time comes?.....

My reccomendations would be the S2, because it's a epic phone, with epic hardware.
U can get dozens of ROMs for it, and it offers excellent performance.
The comparison between S2 and S3 is display, processor, and GPU, so my reccomendation would be Samsung galaxy s2, because the price of S2 is much more lower than S3, and and the power u get in S3 is not that huge compared to S2
I personally dislike HTC, they'r good, but overall not as good and smooth as Samsung is.
S2... Get SyahKernel! I heard it has dual booting capabilities...

If I were you I'll thinking to get a new phone, and that is a galaxy nexus because I love unbloated google stock and I don't sell/spare my galaxy w because I love this small community and I'd like to see how our community has grow up, there's many new devs here now, we now had many ICS rom, two AOSP rom, lot of JB's and two stable base CM9 and CM10 by our master. i don't even think to sell my phone for now
-sent from my awesome phone-
Echoing @hotheabilly, whatever new phone you choose, don't ever think of selling the W...
Honestly, the W's community, in my view, is more creative and daring compared to others. Undoubtedly due to the W's severe limitations, but the W has taught us all to persevere, because we all know that it's "the little phone that could."
I personally have invested so much time familiarizing myself with its 'soul', that if ever the day comes when I have to part with it for good, perhaps when it has become so old it can no longer turn on because some parts are broken and replacements are no more, I'm sure I'll be feeling a great sense of loss.
As to S2 vs S3, you'll have to ask yourself if the larger screen is worth the price of fewer cusROMs... the S2 has existed for quite some time that most of the myriad cusROMs for it are practically stable; you *truly* can choose a ROM that fits your style without having to worry about stability.
And the money you save by choosing the S2 over the S3 can be repurposed for useful accessories like a Targus capacitive stylus, or a capacitive glove (either are especially helpful when you need to touch your phone's screen during very cold weather).

Pepoluan....I totally agree about parting company with this phone......
The W is my first smartphone.....it's also the first piece of tech I've ever played with and tweaked.....
When I found out (before I joined XDA) that Samsung intended to leave it behind at gingerbread, I felt cheated and disappointed.....I soon changed my mind about this little phone when I discovered XDA...
I'm in no hurry to put this phone in a drawer. Even if I do upgrade (likely to be the S2) I'll probably put a PAYG sim in this one and keep using it......
I used to visit FB on a daily basis, but now I'd rather visit this forum.......even though I've never actually met/worked with/spoken to any of the members here, I'm more comfortable here than on FB....so even if I do upgrade, I'm not going to turn my back on this forum.....

Go with the Galaxy Nexus. I've used various phones from various manufacturers, I'd say the Galaxy S series come last. It has the most clunkiest and laggiest UI (TouchWiz) compared to HTC and Sony. Regarding S3, it's like Samsung removed Project Butter on purpose from its Jelly Bean update.
If you don't mind less customization compared to the Nexus, get an Xperia T or One S.
If you wan expandable memory instead of being stuck with a tiny one like in the Nexus series go with the S2 or S3. Don't bother with any Nexus product unless you hate expandable memory.
Yeah...I keep hearing that touchwiz is laggy.....though that doesn't really matter anyway...
If I do upgrade, whatever I upgrade to probably won't be running stock for more than about 5 minutes anyway......

Try Sensation XE though it is nice and have lower budget than the s2. And it is almost as good as s2 with the dual cored 1.5 ghz. With 768 ram it's quite nice.
But if you love samsung and doesn't want to move to other brand well s2 is better. But definitely go to s3 man. Craving for that badly but sooo expensive.

If I were to change my handset, most probably I will be going for the middle or upper low-end phones. As the reason for rooting one's phone is to unleash the phone's potential.
When I first realized that SGW is under the legacy and low activity device section, I was a bit disappointed. Nonetheless, this forum has actually bring our phone to a whole new level.
Considering that you buy a high end mobile phone. The after effects of rooting your phone doesn't really give you much satisfaction as compared to SGW.

help
anyone can help me.. i already rooted my samsung galaxy w but still 2.3.6 version.. then i tried to change my kernel version to [email protected] but my wifi is not working. where can i find the original kernel of my phone? pls. help me or sent me a kernel file to my email.. thanx a lot..
I would upgrade to a S3 since it seems pretty good and I tested one in the shops and it feels fantastic to use. Honestly don't get anything in the Nexus series of phones cause no matter how good they look and seem, it lacks a MicroSD slot for expandable memory and its a wonder why anyone who likes watching movies or listening to music and especially gaming would get one.
Hi Friends,
((I have not too much knowlege of android phone rooting or moding, but learn many things after joining this forum))
I am currently using SGS3 Mini, and I want to change it. So you guys please tell me should I go for Galaxy Nexus?? Battery Timing is same or not in both devices.
Please share your opinions because your opinions are highly valuable for me. Also please share what are the things that I can do in SGS3 Mini but not in Galaxy Nexus.
Sorry for Bad English

Gnex is faster, gnex has always the latest android (4.2.2 atm), it has a nice 720p HD display, it has a bigger battery, its just an good upgrade.
Once you go nexus, you wont go anywhere.
You'll become a nexus ***** like me
Buy it, but if you can afford it go for a Nexus 4 from google.play. cheap and an upgrade to the gnex.

The only advantages that IMHO the S3 mini has over the Nexus are:
- smaller size (if that's important)
- microSD slot
Disadvantages:
- smaller size (sizewize, 4.5-5 inch is slowly becoming my sweet spot)
- poor community (I don't want to ofend anybody)
- poor support from Samsung (Nexus might even see official Android 5)
My advice for you is:
Make a list of things that matter for you: screen size, processing power, microSD slot, software updates (official or not), etc). Compare the two phones over at gsmarena.com or somewhere else and check which phone better suits you. Now check for reported problems. Sleep a night or two on all this info and in the morning place the order.
Personally I have two things against the Nexus: no microSD card slot and problems with the flash memory (search for problems with trimming). But, giving that I still have it, I can live with those.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for your valuable comments guys.
Fir me..
1- Sd card not matter 16 gb enough for me.
2- Screen size i want big screen
3- I want updated android
4- Camera result is fine
So finally today I purchased Galaxy Nexus. But I am bit nerveos about battert timing cz my sgs3 mini gave me one whole day. Now lets see how much time i'll give
