[Update-Only] nfx-update-kindle-6.3 - 3/30/2012
UPDATE ONLY from 6.2.2 to 6.3
Just for clarification this is not a complete rom this is only an Update
AND THIS IS ONLY IF YOU HAVE 6.2.2, not CM
Ok I have packaged up the 6.3 update with only the files changed or modified removed and added from 6.2.2
Included in this is:
unsecure boot image
busybox
su binary
and su apk
This is for anyone with root and Custom Recovery (Like TWRP) already installed and still on 6.2.2
this will not format system it will just update the need files.
So all current apps will remain and all data will be intact.
Install and wipe dalvik and cache, then reboot
Download Update 6.3

I would image so but you will lose some of the customization he does to his

A few dumb questions...
1) Can I flash this with CWM?
2) Will it overwrite my FFF bootloader?
3) Will it overwrite my overclocked kernel?
4) Will it prevent the OTA amazon 6.3 update?
5) Will it overwrite my customized build.prop?
Thanks!

If you still have your custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) then you can flash this and gain root. However, if you installed the Amazon OTA 6.3 update, you probably lost your custom recovery, in which case you will need to root another way.

[ROM] Official IML77 (deodexed/rooted) (1/21/2012) (US WIFI)

FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK
Here is a full ROM that can be installed through CWM (or Rogue Recovery) of the IML77. I took a system dump of my install and deodexed and rooted. Flash at your own risk. I'm not responsible if this breaks your system. I did test this on my own Xoom. I flashed back to stock after already being on ICS then installed the ROM. You'll most likely have to clear your data/cache. This rom will also update your bootloader.
Update: 1/21/2012
Edit: I believe I've fixed the issue with root. I've tested it several times and each time root is working for me. With the version of SuperUser that's on it you may not get prompted when an app is requesting root. Not really sure why it doesn't.
You should not have to revert back to stock.

it is a stock rom, no enhancements and the problems all the peeps who took ota update.
deodex just lets you tweak it more: like themes and stuff
Are there any differences between this one and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446469 or just the deodex part?
I installed the rom already its very smooth but it's not rooted in got root apps premition denied. Even when I tried to install busybox got premition denied.

Would it not work if I just downloaded ROM Manager from Google Play and then flashed the latest CWM recovery from there?
Are the roms we're flashing still twrp specific? I've been using twrp 2.1 for awhile with no issues but flashing with cwm and rom manger is something I'm more familiar with. It's one more step closer to getting our roms recognized and integrated in rom manager.

Root after OTA

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew how to root the S3 after the latest T-Mobile OTA?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842142
I used this method today, but was already rooted before the update and installed it via Kies. You can probably modify the process a bit to work for you.
In Odin, you may have to uncheck the automatic reboot button, as the ROM tries to overwrite the custom recovery image with each reboot before you are rooted.

Be sure to use the thanks button!
This actually is a simple thing to solve! Cybernook over in the Q&A brought this to our attention so big thanks to him!
When you install the update it included these files in /system
recovery-from-boot.p
install recovery.sh
Either change extention to .bak or delete and your recovery will stick permanantly.

*Edit: Worked like a charm. Gentlemen, we have the solution. Thanks due (and given) to cybrnook both here and in the guide

Yes, sorry bout that. Should be:

I actually have not gone this far with the process just yet. I'm testing some theories I have about the updates and how they work first.
I'm not quite sure which is "the best" root method right now but just read the first page and last 5-10 pages in the method threads. You should be able to see which has a higher success rate and go from there.

Well, do you want a custom ROM, or do you want 100% unrooted stock without custom recovery or 2nd bootloader, because those are your two options.
I can't find a stock ROM compatible with twrp, just side load cm onto it and install it again, or use kffa to restore stock amazon os. I think restoring stock will get rid of twrp though just a heads up.

There are no stock KF ROMs for the KF2, there are only CM, PA or AOSP based ROMs. Flashing the stock update from Amazon will get rid of everything, including root, TWRP, and the 2nd bootloader.
So what would you rather have?

Download the Kindle Fire 2 software update from Amazon
Rename it from update-blah-blah.bin to update-blah-blah.zip
Push it to your device
Factory reset!!!
Flash in recovery and reboot.
So download update file from Amazon and rename it as a zip OK good I'll try that but will I get a red screen btw that's why I want 10.2.6 so it will update and won't get red screen
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Red screen is completely avoidable on an os higher than that, u just have to downgrade the bootloader first.

The update will replace the bootloader, recovery boot and system partitions with pure stock, so there's little chance of bricking...unless you forget to factory reset.
