You mean the "update.zip" doesn't work ???
I read as unable to root, via recovery or ODIN, Super 1 click, Doomloard or other known methods, after flash ROM with ODIN.

Download from the link v5 (v7 dies not install properly)and install app, then open app and install cwm into system.
To enter recovery press the back key when you see Sony logo, it might be vol button or just try every button until you find which works on your phone

For some custom roms you need to flash kernels via fastboot and for this you need unlocked bootloader.
if bootloader it's locked use Google and search there is official way to unlock but you will lose warranty and drm.

First flash any kernel you want instructions will be given from where you will download like doomkernel it has inbuit recovery. Reboot into recovery choose your rom
Wipe system, chache, dalvik chache install zip from sd card
Dont flash ics rom over gb kernel or gb rom over ics kernel or it will cause bootloop

Considering you already have flashtool and your desired kernel follow this :
1) Plug in your phone in fastboot mode [S-Off, hold menu key and plug in to PC]
2) Place you .img on your desktop
3) Open up flashtool, select fastboot mode and select flash kernel and select it from the desktop
4) Once kernel is flashed un plug your device restart it open up CWM and flash desired ROM.
Hopefully i helped you out

My galaxy nexus is yakjuxw android 4.1.2 unbranded. Stock
I have a broken power button and my phone has turned off..i have googled and tried almost everything...Nothing works !!
Is there a way i can root without using power button.. ?AND WITHOUT WIPING ANY DATA !
So i can use sweep to wake (pgm)
Or just How can i turn my phone on ???!!??!!
Or get my data back...
Also samsung has not been able to resolve my issue as galaxy nexus was not launched in my country..
Please help...i need my phone back :'(
Edit :
Well it Miraculously turned on !!
Now How can i root without using power button ??
Theoretically, you could unlock using OMAP flash, which won't wipe your device. You then can use adb to reboot into bootloader. Fastboot to flash a custom recovery and then to boot into the custom recovery. Flash root package.

hmm
its been noted that recoverx doesnt work with the 96fw (not only that but chance not to work at all on any firmware)
there is a cwm installer in the dev section somewhere
try that instead
