I have been looking and looking and I cant seem to find out if the SGSII Epic Touch ICS update has Swype or not. I am a die hard Swype fan and dont want to root my phone until i can confirm that Swype will be supported. Can Anyone help me out?
Mijjz Blend has swype

You can always download and install it separately..
I'm running the beta version and have installed it at least 3 times.. gotta figure out how to get that as an apk instead of using the installer each time -__-
Every tw ics ROM I have tried had Swype but just go to Swype and sign up for beta and if it don't have it you can get it that way or look around here there are always modded and themed versions on xda

FlexT9 is much better than Swype imho

FC22 had swype
I only use Swype, after trying it when I got my phone, I stuck to it. I have Swype Beta (Signed up a while ago) and I always just back it up with Titanium Backup and Restore it, or if I need to, I just use the installer (rarely).
So either way, you won't lose Swype.
Here's the newest Swype with a blackout theme...just install with package installer

+1 can't do without it i remember the og evo didn't have it initially i was ready to replace the device over that lol i couldn't do the keyboard on the epic because i can remember Swype support for Samsung devices. i WA hooked off the first galaxy.
I installed an early ics work of sbrissen & quickly removed because of there was no Swype.
I soon realized i had better remember my Swype password from the og evo days & keep a copy for these ics roms.

Installed Viper Rom and so far so good. Can anyone tell me how to get swype back?
Thanks
Look in the files, he made a folder with the files he deleted. I reinstalled swype from that folder.
go to Astro sdcard> viper rom> removed apps.
it should be in there, you can also check out the thread for the apk.
Its in the folder if you want the old version, but it would be in your interest to delete all traces of Swype and get the beta from Swype.com. its a lot smoother and doesn't have some of the bugs that came with the stock Swype
Sent from my E4GT!
You can also use the vc script. Search the ROM thread on how to use it
Loosing the built in Swype was a really good thing for me. I installed beta and I never realized how much better it would be than the built in app.

Yeah, I installed my Swype that came with my phone. Beta version is much better...I remember the beta that the e4gt Swype is built off of, so many bugs. The one that bugged me most was when you hit I and it doesn't space the next word.

I was wondering this too. I will install the swype beta and see how it goes. I actually tried to use the stock swype a few days ago and couldn't deal with that spacing issue. Maybe ill have a better experience.
I just bought 3 of these SGS 2's from T-Mobile the other day, and really like the Juggernaut ROM the best so far.
After installing it on my wifes phone she wants Swype back, but I cannot get it to work. I copied the apk from the backup, and installed it which worked fine, but it force closes anytime I try and use it.
Any help is appreciated.
Go to the Swype website and join the beta program. They will email you an installer app you use to install Swype and update it when a new beta version is released.
The beta sucks... Do you know how to get the original back?

Wait you serious?
The official sucks lol. The layout of the keyboard is horrible.
The beta is 100 times better
Original swype download links are posted here.
Good Luck..
I had the same question when I flashed Juggernaut V4.1 and this thread helped me.
I signed up for the swype beta on thier website and installed it very easily to my device. It works as good if not better than the one that orginally came on this device.
The only 2 differences that I even notice are the swype trace color ( anyone know how to change this color?) and the layout of the numbers when you cange the keyboard over to symbols ( which are more like a keyboard and less like a phone dialer).
Does anyone know how to change those two features?
The only way would be the beta. The new Dragon speech engine is great and really accurate.

+1 for the beta.
I just received my Jelly Bean update and I am thrilled. The phone is faster and much smoother, Love it. I also noticed the update came with Swype keyboard and the stock Samsung keyboard received a swype update as well.
I had previously downloaded the swype downloader app before I had received the update, did the Swype update come with the Jelly Bean update? I am not talking about the swype update that the Samsung keyboard had received but a seperate Swype Keyboard.
So I have two Swype keyboards, one that was updated from the Samsung keyboard and the seperate Swype keyboard. I'm confused just reading back to myself what I just wrote, I hope anyone who reads this can understand it.
Love that Jelly Bean with plenty of Butter.

Yea, you get Swype with the ota jelly bean update

Thanks for the imfo. The stock Samsung keyboard also has swype built into it, never used it because I always used my paid Swiftkey keyboard. Thought I would do some experimenting and was amazed to find that the stock Samsung keyboard also had swype built into it. It works pretty good as well.
Thanks again,
Vinny

The Samsung keyboard has something similar to Swype functionality, but trust me, it's no Swype. Swype is just better since it's been out for like 4-5 years? More time to work out the kinks and have better interactions. Except it doesn't scan my contacts name as well as it use to... eh that's probably why it is beta.
Fix one thing break another.

Since the upgrade to 4.2 I am having problems using Swype. It gets blocked when I switch it from default keyboard to swype one. I want to use it because swype support the languages that i need.
Has anyone the same problems and it's there a fix?
Thanks

I had to restore from a nandroid backup using Titanium backup. Every time I unlock the device I get a force close message or 2, but Swype functions normally thereafter. Tried to install using the install app provided for the beta program and nothing was available to install. I don't think they have caught up to 4.2 quite yet.

I wish i could port swype dictionary to the default 4.2 android keyboard....
When i try to reinstall it, the app installer doesn't let me choose a version also.
I believe that's a known issue. Hopefully Swype releases a fix for it soon.

I've been going back and forth between 4.2 keyboard and Swype.
I'm using an old themed version (no longer available) from djdarkknight.
you can try this version if you want.

Swype kept freezing my jelly bean rom so i switched to SwiftKey Flow beta and i'd argue that it's better than swype, stock was an absolute nightmare.. Just not as much detail put into it as swype and SwiftKey.

I just recently went from stock android 4.1 on my Galaxy Nexus to CyanogenMod 10 with android 4.2.1. I was using Swiftkey Flow before and now and the only difference I had was the color that shows up when you swype letters, it barely shows up on screen now.
Swype bumped the beta to 1.4 and seems to work quite well with 4.2.1. Adding to the custom dictionary is now functional too.

Between the pain-in-the-arse multistep install process and the glitches in the Swype beta, I've switched over to the stock 4.2 keyboard. I also tried Swiftkey 3. Uninstalled Swype a couple of months back and never regretted it. It's just too hard to setup and it refuses to work without a lot of tweaking.

After upgrading from stock FL24 to stock GB27, and doing a full wipe, the Epic 4G Touch seems to have settled down, and is turning in solid, reliable performance. Sure, the battery usage seems to be slightly higher, but the performance gains seem to outweigh this very modest hit.
However, one thing in the new build is getting under my skin: I hate the new Swype. I hate the beta Swype. Is there any way to get the version of Swype that was on the ICS builds of this phone? In particular, long-press delete no longer deletes whole words, and adding words to dictionary is a total crapshoot.
Anybody know if the old Swype apk is compatible with Jelly Bean? Should I bother trying to isolate and repack, from an old ROM? I'd like to stay in unrooted stock, if possible (for superstitious stability reasons).
Cheers,
gobaers
You should test drive Touch Pal from play store, I was using this before jelly bean on gingerbread.
I still use it but I'm taking a liking to the the Samsung keyboard that comes with jelly bean.
The pridect text on Touch Pal is spot on and quick with a good variety of words to follow up.

I'll take a look, but I've found that none of the Swype-like keyboards out there are as accurate as Swype itself, including the new Jelly Bean keyboard and Swiftkey.
I suspect that the stock Samsung keyboard is just Swype dressed up; it's too bad I don't like that dressing.
Anybody know about the ICS Swype? If not, I'll just download the FL24 stock ROM and start messing with APKs.
I was using swype until I came across Touch Pal, that's when I converted over to TP.

Latest Swype that came with the last update. Sorry, not from the Swype website. I'm currently using version 1.3.8.10895, which is included in the new source updates. If you don't have it, and want it simply download one of the new source builds and pull the apk . Works like a dream!

That would be nice (long press delete) on the Samsung keyboard. I like that its light on the os, wifey likes it better than TP.

Just wanted to post an update:
The latest version of Swype, 1.5, available from the Play Store for $1 has fixed the delete button and add word to dictionary behaviors. Long press delete now deletes whole word.
Well worth the $1, IMO.
