Few n00b questions.
Firstly, how do i flash a nightly on my phone? lets say im running ofw 2.2 SEA edition? Do i follow the same procedure as if to flash RC1... do i also need to flash gapps similarly.
Secondly, are the links on quarxs' CM7 for defy thread up-to-date? or are there newer versions of gapps and nightlies floating around somewhere
Third, i have noticed that there is an issue with network and wi-fi when i flash cm7 RC1 over the nordic sbf. when i go back to official 2.2 SEA there is no hassle at all. Since i live in india i was wondering if that was the issue. I can easily take care of the network problem using "baseband switcher for defy" but it still doesnt help the wi-fi problem.
My question is.. will using the new BOOTSEA nightly solve this problem. I am assuming from the name is boot"SEA" im assuming its built southeastasia specific.
Fourth, ive used CM7 RC1 for a while and apart from the wifi issue i got problems with camera and video... it absolutely doesnt work, wether it be in potrait or landscape or whatever setting... the app just force closes. Any fixes for that.. ive got green lens.
please help!!! and i hope other similar questions can be added by members here so as to make this thread an FAQ for distressed users like me.
Thanks

--> I'd say install RC1 and gapps first, then try a nightly by just wiping cache and Dalvik - no need to install gapps again since they're on your phone now. If you install a BOOT version and want to go back to an earlier CM7 nightly, then you might want to start from scratch, reflash froyo and install RC1 + gapps again.
Secondly, are the links on quarxs' CM7 for defy thread up-to-date? or are there newer versions of gapps and nightlies floating around somewhere
--> mostly up to date, but I don't worry about gapps too much as I believe that the Market gets updated automatically anyway (but I might be wrong about that). On the OP, the link to the gapps should show you up to date versions; but read the comments on there - very important.
Third, i have noticed that there is an issue with network and wi-fi when i flash cm7 RC1 over the nordic sbf. when i go back to official 2.2 SEA there is no hassle at all. ---> same here my wifi DL speed was really bad for the last month or so on CM7; only after BOOT179-4 install, my wifi speed somewhat got back to normal.
Fourth, ive used CM7 RC1 for a while and apart from the wifi issue i got problems with camera and video... it absolutely doesnt work, wether it be in potrait or landscape or whatever setting... the app just force closes. Any fixes for that.. ive got green lens.
---> My camera and video worked on RC1 (and earlier) but video recording had some chopiness at times. Around July 11th nightly, Quarx released a camera fix (in that nightly) that solved the problem for me. But then days later, on newer nightly builds, I got the FC problem on video camera (same as you but red lens here). Then with BOOT179-4, camera was fine again and so the wifi speed; so all good for me.
--------> I really don't know what's going on with the video camera: many poeple have problems and many have it working on every nightly builds. It has been a problem from day one for Quarx on CM7-jordan... You have to try and see which build works for you I guess. And like you said, BOOT-SEA definitely looks like something you should try - many people liked it and many people say yesterday nightly is the best for them so far... so go on and have fun with testing
---> Before you do more testing though, you can always do a backup from the custom recovery so it will be easy for you to restore your current phone state -if nothing improves. I do this all the time: stock recovery factory reset, nordic flashing, RC1 install then restore my (BOOT179-4 now) backup.
Please help!!! and i hope other similar questions can be added by members here so as to make this thread an FAQ for distressed users like me.

i went thru the whole FAQ but my doubts are regarding the nightlies which it doesnt address hence the thread.
thx for the concern though.
downloaded the BOOTSEA, but there is another file "cm7-110726-0018-BOOTSEA-Jordan.zip.md5sum" mentioned below it. ( there are similar md5sum files for all nightlies...) are they essential ? and how do i use them.
wanted to clarify before proceeding.

Md5 files are to verify your download is not corrupted one. Which you can compare the md5 after downloading the zip file and regenerating the md5 of downloaded file and check against the one in the server.

No problem.
Go read here on the official CM7-jordan thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033654&page=943
And from post 9429 particularily; pretty much goes in the same direction I was pointing at regarding the wifi and video camera...
How's the BOOTSEA doing for you?
The nightly ones is just the output that the ones who are working on the rom ups to us. Normally have all that part on topic that say "next version:..."
If you wanna try the nightly one, use as the *.zip that you download when got the "rc1 v2" for exemple. So wipe the phone, choose install from a zip of the sdcard and choose the *.zip, been it the rc1 or the nightly build.
The md5sum file is the one that contains the 5sum from the file. Its nornaly given when you have to download a big file and have fear to corrupt the file. If you use linux, go on terminal and type "5sum file" when file is the name of any file that you have. It will give you a big number. This is the 5sum. The *.md5sum have the 5sum of the respective *.zip nightly rom.

how is the battery life with the nightly builds?
what android version is the 27/7 nightly build using? is it 2.3.5?
yup..its 2.3.5
Guys I have simple question...
I am currently using Cyanogenmod 7.0.3-buzz in my wildfire and thinking to upgrade to Cyanogenmod nightly, all I wanna ask is that do I need to flash my phone again, as in wipe all data n wipe cache (factory reset) in clockwork recovery or should I just install 'CM nightly' over it without flashing?
Thanks
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
Just install over your existing setup. (But, don't forget to take a Nandroid backup incase the Nightly proves to be unstable - If it does, then you would have to perform a clean install, ie - Perform Data Wipe in Clockworkmod and re-flash)
thanks a lot bro.... 1 more small thing i need to ask...
i just saw that almost everyday a new nightly version comes Cyanogenmod's site, so which 1 should i get? or should get the latest 1 which came on Cyanogenmod site? and if i install the very latest 1, so do i need update it daily?? as almost daily a new version arrives on the site...
Check out the feature changes - It it's something you want then upgrade otherwise don't bother.
okk but how do i check features? i mean when i click on download on CM site, it shows all zip files... where to check feature?
Changelog is here:
http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=buzz
It shows the global changelog for all devices, so, everything may not be Wildfire specific. Click the feature to see the details, but, it's all slightly technical.
Nightlies do release everyday, but it is not necessary to upgrade everyday. Upgrade only if there is a feature in a new one that catches your fancy.
thanks brother... you rock !!
Saw that there weren't many CM9 kangs with working camera and dialer, so I figured I might as well try to help out.
I'd just like to point out that I'm a "beginner" developer, having only basic knowledge of AOSP, etc. I can try to fix problems, but I love it when people help me. I'd like to get everything to get to a "we all help each other" stage, but I guess that won't happen
That being said, please help me to help you. I'd like to learn, and I'm sure you would too. If you know solutions to problems, post them here. If you have a problem that you need solved, maybe someone can help.
I'm not responsible for what these files do to your phone, but I sure hope that nothing bad happens!

I've been running v0.3 with Aero's kernal for a few days now as my DD. Best ICS Rom I've tried so far! Great work!
thanks my friend..
downloading now..
btw the GSM mode is working well?
Oooh, looks promising. Does the new kernel take care of the multi-touch issues that had previously been seen?
If I'm running one of Aero's cm9 roms, can I do a simple wipe of cache/davlik and install?
I read in the RW thread that you can do a simple wipe if installing v0.1. True? (I'd just prefer not to load up everything again, but if need dictates I will).

As always. Wiping is recommended. You can flash over but do not report bugs till you have tried a complete wipe first.
This is almost always the case with any rom.

Except no rotating softkeys !! So sad
do all the games work? (e.g. TempleRun)
Installed V.3, kernal, gapps.
Everything looks awesome, so far these are my only problems-
-Speaker phone doesn't seem to work, at least I can't get it to.
-MMS, "can't add image to this message" - will be testing more with this, could be my end.
** This was me trying to send a picture from the gallery that was actually online, not sure how to do that or if its possible but a pic that is on the phone sent just fine **

Not sure, I don't have games.
In other news - auto brightness works!!
Alright I spoke too soon, the picture messaging doesn't seem to be working it just keeps sending so far.
Downloading now, I'll report on my findings later tonight. But the way I see it, more options are always better than fewer options when it comes to Rom choices.
Applied settings from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24731006&highlight=mms#post24731006
Rebooted and I was able to send/receive a MMS message.
I was only able to use the camcorder once and the FFS is upside down, going to reapply the fix and see if that helps.
Flashed right over aeroevan's didn't wipe data. Everything works. I like how the softlights don't rotate cause then they don't disappear.
So far, very snappy and clean. I think I might be sticking with this one for now.
The only problems i have are the same as a llot of people on other roms, if I use the FFC at all then the camcorder doesn't work for a while, usually a reboot. Otherwise a great rom, I'll be using it for a while to see if anything comes up.

Yes and No. The feature looks like it has been built in, but has yet to be implemented. So the option is there in the Settings menu, but when you tap, it just says "Temporary placeholder until functionality merged."
My guess is that it will be included in a future build somewhere down the road.
Because of all the slowdowns in kitkat, I decided to give ICS another try.
Specs:
-Based on CyanogenMod 9
-With Mackay kernel (updated to 3.0.101, updated governors & schedulers, XL RAM some other nice stuff):
https://github.com/kasperhettinga/samsung-kernel-aries/commits/mackay-cm9-2014
-TWRP 2.2.2.0
-no 720p possible, XLMem (do not ask for other flavours, I just make a one-flavour option tuned for smoothness)
Download:

Gapps:
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
This are the latest official gapps. Newer gapps can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.om/showpost.php?p=50748003&postcount=135
(I haven't tested this package, I also don't think latest gapps is relevant, as gapps get updated through Play Store anyway)
Install:
-From existing CM9: install on top + flash gapps
-From any jellybean ROM: you can try to install it on top, but it may result in bootloops, requiring flashing GB through Odin (see below for next steps). Flash ROM. Flash gapps.
-From stock Samsung GB: install CF-ROOT-CWM kernel, or any other CWM containing kernel. Flash ROM. Flash gapps.
You need to flash gapps on every new build, backup/restore of gapps does not work yet!
If you have space issues, you can use a solution to bind /datadata to /data partition:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50653795&postcount=55
THIS IS NOT AN ADVICE TO DO THIS! I do not like this solution, as it will slow down your phone (especially with the slow internal memory chip). And it goes against my lean & mean philosophy for this ROM. Therefore: please think well before doing this!

Wow, that was totally unexpected! Thank you very much! @kasper_h I was wondering: does your rom use the older partition layout, that was introduced in ics, which caused datadata to be full, or the jb one? It would be awesome if you switched to the newer partition layout *.*

You remember it wrong
ICS always had a small system & small datadata partition, both on the fast Onenand. This was actually the fastest layout I ever worked with. The changes in layout all happened in jellybean. And I will not start using jellybean partition layouts: I strive for speed and simplicity, which fits perfectly with the ICS layout.

@kasper_h I have 3 questions:
1. No 720p support at all or only 720p recording is disabled but 720p playback still works?
2. If there's no Performance->Scheduler option in ICS, can schedulers be selected using other ways?
3. zRAM , KSM are still there ? (sorry I am used to your KK kernel)

WOOOHOO!
My dreams came true, it actually happened!
You know, I was testing out CM9 a few times and I noticed huge improvements in smoothness and stuff like that, but the most impressive thing that I realised was that the chrome browser was not lagging at all! I think this means something!
I just have a few questions:
Is it possible to port CMA here? (it's not really necessary, I'm just wondering)
Aaand what about all those super cool features from Omni ROMs? Is there any way to port those? (again it's not necessary at all, I'm just asking)
Anyway I hope the development of this ROM will continue. Going to install this right away! :good: :good:

Wow, our aging i9000 gets an encore ICS build!

I have a question regarding my old official CM9 nandroid backup done with Semaphore 1.3.0: is it worth trying to advanced restore only its data with Sema 1.3.0 to this ROM, and then flash this ROM over it to retain Mackay kernel back and my beloved TWRP with it?

Google Play Store is not updating itself aswell. Got the same problem with 403 . Coming from Android 4.4.2, I've flashed an Android 4.3.1 kernel, reboot to recovery, flashed CM9 twice, full wipe with system format, flashed Mackay CM9 and ICS gapps. Full wiped and system format, flashed the ROM again with gapps and the 403 error was still there. Then I've tried to go back to CM11 and the 403 error persisted.
Went back to stock GB and rooted it using Odin3 and then flashed Mackay CM9 and ICS gapps, now 403 is not showing up but another error appeared (921) and I've tried to clear data for Download Manager, Google Play Store, Google Services Framework, removed my Google Account and rebooted. Then I've re-added the Google Account and now the 403 error reappeared.
@kasper_h got any ideas ?

-CMA is not worth it, would hardly give more free RAM.
-Due to major overhauls in Android between ICS->JB->KitKat it will be nearly impossible to port anything back. Also, my motto for this ROM is lean & mean.

You just flash it like a ROM, no need to wipe anything, just flash. You'll get to a menu asking for options, if in doubt, stay with the default and just hit next.
If you want to get back your current (stock ROM) kernel, just reflash the ROM without wiping anything and you're back.
It's always a good idea to make a nandroid backup, you never know

Just in case I wiped the cache and delvik cache before flashing your custom kernel.
I followed the menu options and I only flashed the kernel (your custom kernel) since I thought if I flash something else I will have to re do the settings and install my phone apps again.
If I want to go back to the default ROM's Kernel, just flash the W03 ROM and that's all? without wiping or deleting anything? How about my phone settings and apps? Will they still be there?

Yep.
But if you just flash my kernel (first menu choice) you're mostly on stock and don't profit from any of the benefits.
Reflash and go through the menus, just hit "Next" till you're through.
To get back, just reflash the ROM without wiping.
Your settings won't get lost.
But as I said, you should make a backup, it's always the safest thing to do.

First of all, thank you for your quick tech support.
I did reflash your custom kernel and this time many windows options appeared and I just hit next until the end.
Everything seems to be working fine but can you please in a user friendly language tell me 3 o 5 simple facts of the benefits of flashing your kernel?
Also what is Wipe Cache and Delvik cache? I read somewhere else that it is a good idea to do this in order to install a new kernel .

Well you do use :
- different governor (handles CPU frequency)
- different hotplug driver (faux's intelliplug, that's handling CPU on-/offlining)
- touchwake (allows to wake the device by touching the screen when it times out)
- fastcharge (allows charging faster on USB chargers)
- etc. etc.
Might be worth having a read here and then here (Changelogs).
Dalvik cache wiping for kernels is useless, it won't hurt, but you'll lost time as you'll have to wait for it to be rebuilt on boot ("Android is updating your apps..."), cache partition can be usefull in my kernel's case, as it will help Aroma with an issue that sometimes settings don't get generated, so that you can do, won't cost much time. But in general for all kernels not using Aroma (menu system you saw while flashing), there's no need.

Hello, I would love to test Google's new Inbox on this GEM of a Rom. Anyone have an invite ?
Inviato dal mio SM-N900W8
I'm currently running v27. Is it safe to dirty flash to 28? Do I need to flash to 27.1 first?
Also I've noticed that video playback freezes occasionally when I seek repeatedly. Is this a common issue? Does it get fixed in the new release?
My smart cover only activates while closed and power button is pressed and not through calls. Is there an option to enable smart phone covers or has it not been implemented?
Safest way to update from V27.1 with Yank555 custom kernel to V28?
I have a similar question:
I am currently running V27.1 with Yank555 custom kernel but I would like to try out this V28 ROM update but I don't want to download and install my apps and settings all over again since they are a lot.
I am also using Nova Launcher and it looks like Nova Launcher was remove from V28.
Does any body know what will be the safest way to update from V27.1 (with Yank555 Kernel) to V28 (with the Stock kernel)?
Has development stopped on this rom? Not getting any news updates. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have a legit SM-N9006 3g Chinese variant on a touchwiz 4.4.2 rom, I am kind of new to roms and I'm wondering if the Slimkat rom would work for my phone. Thank you very much
Does this rom work on international note 3?
protected apps v28
I'm really liking this ROM. Great job.
I wanted to know if the protected apps feature is still in this ROM somewhere. If so, I can't seem to find it. Or, was it stripped out?
Hi everyone
I've been reading alot about this ROM and I really want to give it a shot
problem is ,, I have CWM recovery installed ,, can I use it to flash or TWRP is a must?
go easy on me, I'm a noob in all sense of the word
edit: boy.. looks like the last question to be answered was 6 months ago!!
Hi guys. I'm pretty new at this whole flashing thing and I've been working on a Note 3 (N900T) my uncle wasn't using anymore. I have been working on this for a few days now and this is the first thread I've come across that has a lot of success. I'd appreciate the help. I've tried to install the ROM from this thread but I got "e: failed to verify whole-file signature" when trying to install. Here's what I've done so far.
Wiped cache/user data.
run the ROM from the SD card (fat32) then that's when i get the error message.
Thanks in advance for the help.
