No client can connect to it on the ICS CM9 on R800x. It worked fine on other ROMs. Is it this rom that's the problem?

Bump, I'd like to get an answer because this is a make it or break it debate.

I'm running cm7 and can't find a wifi tethering app that works for me. Im going to need a hotspot later, but I can't get barnacle or open garden to work...the both say they are running with errors. I'm not near a comp, so could someone maybe just link me to an apk? Thanks in advance.

The built-in wireless tether works great on cm7. Settings>wireless & networks>tethering&hotspots

I have read devices using wifi hotspots to gain connection to wifi only psvitas. But for some reason barnacles does not show up as an access point and open garden wifi tethering is left at always connecting. Does anyone know how to get around this?

why arent you using the native tethering? out of interest? could always try making it unprotected as this can fix about 2% of issues occasionally but try the native first

That would be so but cm7 doesn't have it for some reason. Only USB tether.

UPDATE: ok.. so i spent the last hour setting up my phone from cm7 to stockrom w/ doomkernel and it STILL does not work. the psvita can see my phone but cannot connect. I tried with and without encryption.
I am having the same issue. My Vita won't see Barnacle off my Xperia play, no matter any changes I have made to the settings. I am trying to find another wifi app to try but nothing so far works
Vita don't support adhoc hotspots barnacle only does adhoc same with iPhone but the built in one on stock rom works

have you tried http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
i would use wifi_tether_v3_1-beta11.apk
Apologies for a super late response... thanks for the link but I already had that apk. Native works but Verizon blocks the usage of unauthorized tethering with the option to pay... cm7 actually makes good use of the APk because it doesnt have an apparent apk for wireless tethering. Psvita can be tethered to r800x using cm7.

Try connecting it without security. I had to do that with another phone once but haven't tried the s3

If your rooted and not on a stock kernel try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether if your not rooted then I would root. If you are rooted try a cm10 ROM and it will work. I've been using mine on the ps3 for two days now with no problem. I hope this helps,

i didn't want to start a new thread
so i've been able to tether to my ps3 , but it only seems to work on the 2.54 paranoid android rom with a vpn and wifi tether for root app. anytime i flash a new rom and try the same, it gives me a fail to start ap error and wont work. i've tried it with the new roms and even the newer kernels that support tethering, but it wont work. the tethering will work for my computer on windows and ubuntu, but not my ps3. i really want to move onto a newer rom,(carbon rom is buttery smooth on my phone)but not being able to tether to my ps3 is a deal breaker. does anybody here have a working set-up they could recommend on the newer roms?
sorry about the long post, wanted to give as much information as i could, and thank you for any information you can give me
Im sure this has already been brought to your attention. There is a good thread entitled "T-Mobile blocking Wi-Fi tether" don't know how to link it. Maybe im too lazy but you can find it in the s3 general section. Hope this helps nd good luck.

Can anyone who installed the Frosty JB M3 ROM tether? When I try with the built-in app or FoxFi and WifiTether, I cannot turn it on. in ICS, FoxFi worked fine.
I am on Wind. Thanks!

I've also installed Frosty JB ROM, and cannot tether via wifi by any means. I've also tried Foxfi and WifiTether, neither work. The only app I've gotten to work is EasyTether, and it's connected via USB, not wifi. I didn't try it on ICS, so I can't speak to that. But it definitely doesn't work now.

I posted in the development thread and it's impossible to tether on Samsung jellybean ROMs as of now.

Yeah so did i. :/
And i was told its all JB leaks. Its kind of weird how we cant tether even while being root. I wonder if something in the kernel or ROM source code is preventing it. And that may be a benefiting factor to why we dont have source code for JB Sammy ROMs yet.
I actually got caught using easytether. Was browsing like normal for a while, then the "please add this service to continue tethering" screen came up. Wish there was a way to do this! I refuse to pay extra per month for this service.
Im not to lazy to search. I have and havent had good luck.
I have used a couple of different custom roms without luck of having a hacked native wifi tether option. From what I have read 3rd party tether programs dont work with jellybean.
Can anyone point me to a thread that will shed some light on what Im doing wrong?
Im not a noob to android or rooting, flashing, etc just need some general guidance to help me out.

I can't guarantee but check out aokp jb rom. There's may be working but the jb builds are relatively new. Go to www.aokp.co.

Well i just came from the s2 and I'm not sure if the problems and fixes are the same but on a custom Rom, have you tried using the native tether and changing user agents or a different browser like Firefox.
Wifi tether for root users beta 3.2 works fine too.
Btw i was tethering last night using native. No problems so far.
I'm on aokp jb

Wifi tethering wont work on jb touchwiz roms. If you upgraded to the unlimited 4g you lose hotspot with stock jb roms. It may work with aokp or cm roms.
I had the same issue and downgraded back to an ICS rom so the wifi tethering app will work again

Thanks for the input. I like touchwiz reminds me of htc sense a lot.
I will just stay on ics now instead of taking any leaked updates.
Is there a way to hack the native hotspot on the leaked jb tw roms to bypass the data plan check? I know when I was on sprint that hacking the native tether app was done with several roms.
I don't tether for everyday use at home but it is nice to have when in the car for my wife and kids who have tablets or other internet devices.
I would get a tether plan but I use to much data to do that and would incur extra charges.
