Ok, so I had to get a "replacementt device" and now that I am rooted again, I decided to keep the stock ROM, but want to get rid of the crap sys apps that came pre-installed. Is there a list of sys apps that can be safely removed??
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
I've seen one here before, but that was about a year ago, I don't think I've seen an updated one at all. FYI, don't delete system apps, just use TB to freeze them, that way if you run into problems, you can just unfreeze the app.
what i did on mine before was flashed a stock rom without all the extra crap in it... it worked great...
Google "Evo4g safe apps to remove list", there are lots of them you can remove safely including all sense Widgets and Rosie if you use a 3rd party launcher, many system apps can be entirely removed as well usually if you back em up then freeze them, reboot and everything is OK then you can go ahead and delete them. When I was using sense on my evo I had deleted a ton of things from stock b4 adding my own stuff, basically would strip the entire rom and the build it back to my preference

You could download SOS S and poke around to see which apps are removed. I removed damn near all of them.
Or you could just flash SOS S
Sent from the original Swagged Out EVO via Tapatalk 2
They have a few straight up barebones stock rom on this site, gimme a few and I'll find the one I'm talking about
SOS is good, here's another

I'm rooted with unrevoked 3 and I want to remove the root so I can install the ota update. So if I do a factory reset will I be good to go? Also what is the best app to backup all of my apps and settings? Musy be a simple one because I'm clueless wirh this stuff. Thanks
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
no, a hard reset will not. a reset only wipes userdata and cache and a few other things. why would you want an ota update???? just downlaod one of the roms our talented devs have created for you (most have the newest ota) and flash.
I would but I have no idea how to flash roms and backup and all of that. I don't even know how to find the roms. Or understand the terminology. And why wouldn't I want the ota update are those good because they fix issues and improve stuff?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
ok, it seems this might be a little more complicated than a 2 sentence answer...
you wouldnt want an ota, not because it is not better than its predecessor, but because it is just what htc put in, and as you know, there is alot of stuff htc is not capable of, not willing to, or not creative enough to put in. that is why you would want a custom rom.
a rom is the Read Only Memory of the phone. it is the stuff that tells it what to do when something happens. it is everything you see and do when the phone is booted up, as well as while it is booting. if your phone is rooted, you can do whatever the hell you want to do with it.
the talented devs at xda (including me minus the talent) have made custom roms based off the ota's. most have little add ons and tweaks. some of the more in-depth ones have bigger changes, or even complete ui changes. these devs have packadged them in update.zip scripts, so that they will easily install on your phone. they can be found in the android dev section (in the evo forum)
before flashing a zip (installing a rom through a script) you will need to wipe everything, so it is reccomended to use the titanium backup app to backup all your apps, as well as the data in the apps.
any more questions? shoot

Thanks I've been researching for the past 3 hours and I've backed up with rom manager and titanium backup and I think I am ready to install my first rom. I'm looking for a completly stable rom with vanilla 2.2 that will let me use everything that I can use on stock like 4g,market, and everything else. Thanks again
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
as vanilla, do you mean the lockscreen??? if you do, easy fix. if you mean stock android stuff, you will have a hard time finding 4g there... i am always willing to help. as an extremely stable rom, i reccomend fresh. very stable and looooooong battery
Well not just the lock screen. I just want stock android with no UI at all. And I want everything to work. Thanks for helping me btw
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm pretty sure there are no AOSP roms that have everything working, specifically 4G. I think there might be a couple Sense roms that have sense pretty stripped out that look and feel like AOSP, just dig around the development section.
If it's just the UI you care about, you can always install ADW or LauncherPro and make it look like AOSP. That way you have everything working and you get to keep some of Sense's finer parts, like the smart dialer (the AOSP dialer sucks!).
Ok.I'm thinking about trying the fresh rom is there anything that doesn't work with that? Does 4g work? Anything I should know about it? Lol
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I think dude used the word vanilla as an adjective for plain HTC sense 2.2 and not AOSP.
Fresh is awesome. I have been using it for a while and just updated to the latest one today. It's a sense ROM, so everything works. The dock looks a little different compared to stock but that's it.
Alright cool. Because I'm getting horrible battery life even with having the processor underclocked. As soon as I take it off the charger it drops from 100% to 85% within 10 minutes of no use lol. Also wil titanuim backup work with fresh? Like can I restore e erything with no problems?

Titanium should work with any ROM.
FYI, the paid version will allow you to do a one click batch restore of all apps and data.
Yeah I have the paid ver. But what's the point of switching if the only differnce is the dock. Is the battery life THAT much better?

Switch what? What are you talking about? Fresh ROM? Read the 1st post of the Fresh ROM thread to learn what it features.
I just did the backup and now my pandora and scanner radio apps are gone? Weird
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
That's not the only difference, it's the only major VISUAL difference. Most of the other stuff is under the hood. I don't know what kind of battery life you've been getting but with Fresh and king's #11cfs kernel I get great battery life. I put a fresh battery in at 7 this morning and I still have 45%. I was streaming pandora and MeCanto for a couple hours, made a few phone calls, 20 or so texts, and maybe an hour of internet browsing.
Oh I forgot about kernals. How do I install a kernel? Do I have to install a kernal? What is a kernel? Lol
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Those are questions better suited for Google.
Okay? But atleast tell me if I need one. I will be using rom manager to download and install rom.

Now that we have achieved root in ICS , shall we start a safelist of stock apps we can remove without ill effect?
feel free to submit your list. crossix you might already have a safe list and would love it here if you see this thread
I just rooted today but am at work so I will edit my post later with my list once I can take a closer look.

well i always have been more of a fan of using titanium backup to completely get rid of bloat. also i dont believe you can disable a system installed app even with root. titanium can delete anything :-D

I didn't think there was too much bloat on the A100, even with the ICS upgrade, apart from Aupeo, Acer Media and a couple other apps I barely notice them. Nigh on a stock build, thankfully
What apps did you uninstall and how did you get them uninstalled? I just uninstalled several of them with Titanium Backup, but when I rebooted they were still there. Some of them I was not able to uninstall, error message Cannot remove system app. Failed to locate the apk file.
Use Root Explorer and delete the applications contained in the location: /Flexroom.

Is it possible for me to customize my launcher however I want and place the apk into a rom or theme and once flashed and installed my launcher would already be exactly as I always had it?
I'm not trying to back it up and restore it. What I'm really trying to do is get go launcher the way I customize and set all my widgets, apps, and short cuts into a .zip and once its flashed and the app installs it autimatically comes the way I already had it with no need to restore any kind of data.

I doubt it... that requires backing up the desktop configuration. Also... go launcher is CIQ renamed YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.
No. That info is stored in the data partition, not with the app.

or you could make a backup of it in titanium and restore it every time.
EDIT: ignore this. I just read the op thoroughly

I understand what you're saying, as I do a similar thing with my roms. What I do is simply copy in the data with the launcher apk. However, widgets never restore properly. One could modify a launcher to change the defaults, but I couldn't tell you where to begin.

Ya I kind of figured it would be possible since different launchers have a different "stock" setting that they set the home screen so I wanted to see if it was possible to edit that "stock" into whatever I want. But it may be a little bit too much to do. I may think about it later, but not for now. Thanks though.

What's CIQ? Is that like an ATRAC? I think I heard about that in a museum.
Such old news. Only a few months ago but yet it seems to have faded completely.
We should go back to using those KnowCIQ banners. To prevent that kind of thing in the future. Though I don't really care.
So.... The Chinese have all my top secret data?
So, suprising no one has tried to remove it, rewrite one without it, or just blatantly expose the code. Probably could make some headlines considering how widely used GoLauncher is. I hear and see people talk about it but I've only seen references. (the again, never really researched it other than Google.... <- - - THE WORLDS LARGEST CIQ?)

Can we make a list of all the bloatware that we can safely remove / Titanium freeze without ruin your OGP.
I've stopped this with the Task Manager

You can delete some of them directly from your app drawer. Just open your app drawer hit the plus/minus sign in the top right corner and delete. I froze the rest of mine with titanium.
When the f*ck did we get ice cream??

I did that, but the real reason is the upcoming roms that people will custom and I think they gonna need this info for cleaning/debloating them and stuff.
=)
You won't ruin your phone, you will just have to find the stock ROM (on one of the threads here) and flash it back with LGFlash tool. The obvious ones to remove would be anything AT&T Related using Root Uninstaller if rooted. Also any obvious apps that are preinstalled such as Polaris and Kindle can be removed if chosen too. I also removed all Tests (Bluetooth Test, Wifi Test, etc) Its pretty simple to know what to remove and not to.

I've had issues with those apps and I dint know why. Whenever I removed the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi test apps, my phone freezes for 5-10 minutes on boot. Whenever I put them back, its fine again.
Happened on the original firmware and the new one. I've went all the way back to stock too.

Freezing apps with Titanium has worked great for me... for what its worth
I have a rooted SGH-I317, no new Rom's, from what I understand (friend rooted it for me). I installed nova launcher and was wondering if I even need to keep the TW launcher? If I don't need to keep it, how do I remove it? And can I use titanium backup to delete all these stupid AT&T apps?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
I would keep the launcher, just in case something breaks in Nova you have a backup (it has happened), and yes you can use TB to remove all the AT&T bloat.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
If you are talking ONLY about AT&T apps, then you shouldn't have any issues. Samsung apps may cause issues when uninstalled.

Launcher connections.
Before doing any of this search youtube videos to see what features the note 2 has so you know what to test. Also many tutorials on how to switch things.
Launchers skinned by the manufacturer usually have something attached to them. You have have the Note 2 Which has the SPen. Many of these features may not work in the new launcher. Although they may still work in an application. Also some widgets may not work if designed for TW.
Make a nandroid back up. Install your new launcher and make it your default. Test all features that you can use. If any features have disappeared you have to decide if they are worth losing. You can then back up TW with titanium back up, and then uninstall TW. Test again. If anything has changed then re-install TW.
If anything does not act right after reinstalling then restore through TWRP or your custom recovery that you did nandroid with.
I tend to like custom ROMS based on stock. Such as SKYNOTE or JEDI X (They have already removed most of the AT&T or Samsungs apps that most do not need or want). Just make sure they are intended for you phone. Take small steps. And read everything you can.
If you decide to remove anything with Titanium backup. If the app is part of the system it will give you a warning that may cause device to malfunction. if you say yes. (and you did not already back up the app) it will again ask you yes or no do you want to unistall. If removing this app causes your launcher to crash, you may not be able to install through titanium back up, this is why you always need a nandroid back up.
Enjoy!
