Hi all,
I was having some boot loop issues after installing AOKP 3 (maguro) on my galaxy nexus through CWM. Several users asked if I had wiped my "data cache and galvik cache" before installing, which I hadnt.
The options available in CWM are "Wipe data/factory reset" "Wipe cache partition" and through the advanced menu "Wipe Dalvik Cache"
Should I only be wiping the cache partition and dalvik? or should i also be running the data/factory reset wipe? And if I do the data/factory reset wipe, will I loose my AOKP zip on the sd card?
Thanks in advance
you should choose wipe data/factory reset. it will not delete anything on the sdcard partition.

Wipe data/factory reset, you can wipe the cache partition if you want for good measure but I believe the data wipe does that, then go under advanced and wipe dalvik. You can also format system under mounts and storage. If you do all this it will give you a 100% clean slate to flash a new ROM. It will not wipe your SD card if done through CWM.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the help... AOKP4 running perfect now.
CWM
So i was trying to intall a new rom through CWM and it said "back button disabled" and now i can select things but nothing happens just the CWM icon show up and i hit the power button and it takes me back to the menu. any help would be great!?

This happens if you hit volume + right after volume - (or the opposite) in the recovery. Try to hit volume + and right after, volume - (or the opposite) when this happens and it will get back to normal.

before you flash a new ROM?
where is this done from?
TIA
judging by your question, I guess you don't have ext partition.
Otherwise you would know it can be done through recovery
As said in recovery. Wipe --> Wipe Ext
thats the thing i cant find it in ClockworkMod Recovery
I dont see a Wipe menu
when it starts i see
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
install zip from sdcard
nandroid
partitions menu
advanced
if i goto advanced i see
reboot recovery
wipe dalvic cache
Wipe Battery Stsas
Reports Error
Key Test
Under Partitions menu
there is a format sd-ext, is it this??????????

I'm trying to install one the the new EB13 roms without the CIQ, the instructions call for WIPE, WIPE, WIPE your data. When you are asked to wipe data, does that means also davlik & cache? & if it's so in which order do I do it?
In clockwork recovery
Power off then hold down camera + power + Vol. down
The third option down select that before you flash a rom do it three times to avoid complications
Then you want to do the fourth one down "Wipe cache Partirion"
Do that three times also
Then go into "advanced" and select "wipe Dalvik Cache"
Do that three times also
Next you'll want to flash a rom
"Install zip from Sd card"
then
"choose zip from sd card"
simply select the rom you placed on your sd card
after its installed just reboot if it didn't already and there you go
Hey there folks,
I am new to android, and am totally into the custom scene. Problem is, I have some questions regarding Clockworkmod, if someone wouldn't mind answering for me.
When installing a new .zip from the SD card, there are numerous steps you have to perform before actually installing the .zip.
For example this ROM to flash you need to "Wipe Dalvik and Cache"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372376
In this ROM you need to "Wipe Data/Dalvik and Cache"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382022
So I need to clarify a few things.
When it says "Wipe Data" its > Wipe Data/Factory reset
Wipe Dalvik is > Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache
Wipe Cache is > Wipe cache partition
If someone could clarify this for me please, then that would be great.
Regards
Schmee
Yes, you are correct.

Full wipe means:
data/factory reset
cache wipe
dalvik cache wipe
wipe system in mounts and storage
wipe cache in mounts and storage
Wiping system is very important as a flash is usually an update to a different and improved system version! ( for instance from KKA to LA4).
When getting into a bootloop pull the battery, reinsert battery and go in recovery mode and wipe data/factory reset and cache and reboot, done

IF it is like wiping the Dalvik cache, battery status and all, then the SD card data are not erased.
Just make sure that you clear all the above mentioned(Dalvik cache, battery stat , data/factory reset.)
I'm so thankful i made "wipe data/factory reset" then "wipe cache partition" then "wipe dalvik cache" and then "wipe battery stats", then I installed CM 7.2
Thank you, the partition is still there
