Anyone else not like the unicorn as the "ROM Control" icon on Juggernaut 5.0?
No offense to the creator .. unicorns just aren't my thing.
Here is a Settings.apk that changes the icon to something a little more standard looking.
Prerequisites
Root
ADB
Something to mount /system/ as writable (I use ES File Explorer)
Instructions
1. Place the attached "Settings.apk" in the folder where you have ADB setup (usually either "tools" or "platform-tools" in your SDK folder)
2. Type "cmd" in Run Dialog
3. Type cd and then type the path to the folder where you have ADB setup
Example
Code:
cd c:/android/android-sdk/platform-tools/
4. On your phone, mount system as writable (IMPORTANT : Your system must be writable or you will get a read-only error in the command prompt)
5. Push the modified "Settings.apk" to the /system/app/ folder
Code:
adb push Settings.apk /system/app/
You may or may not get some Force Closes after doing this - IT'S OKAY!
6. Reboot your phone - the fastest way is just type "adb reboot" since you already have the command prompt up and are in the correct directory.
Congratulations! You changed your ROM Control icon!
Lol i actually liked the old "juggernaut" icon but the unicorn looks kinda cool, lol (no homo)
Thanks for this..might need this for future reference.

Me too please. I would love to change my system fonts. Just a little bigger
If you are rooted, you can do this if you are familiar with adb commands. The commands would be something similar to this and would be executed while in Recovery Mode with USB connected:
adb shell mount /system
adb shell rm /system/fonts/(font name)
adb push (font name) /system/fonts
adb shell remount
adb shell reboot

Thanks Masdroid. I am rooted but not familiar with adb commands. Would you be kind enough to expand a little. I am using windows vista 32 and phone is defrost 1.6

If you are running Windows, you need to first make sure that you have the Windows Android SDK (http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html) downloaded and extracted to your computer, use the following path to extract it: C:\android-sdk-windows.
Next, download and place the selected font files to the root of your C: (e.g. C:\[font name])
Then, switch off your phone and boot to Recovery Mode. Once booted into Recovery Mode, first perform a Nandroid backup which you can restore afterwards if anything happens to go wrong. Now, while still in Recovery Mode, open a separate command-line window and then type: cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools, press enter.
Now type the following commands in adb and hit enter afterwards to execute:
adb shell mount /system
adb shell rm /system/fonts/[font name]
adb push [font name] /system/fonts
adb shell remount
adb shell reboot
The default system fonts that the Desire uses are:
DroidSans.ttf
DroidSans-Bold.ttf
DroidSansMono.ttf
etc. I had some other font (I forget, let's say Helvetica for fun):
Helvetica.ttf
HelveticaBold.ttf
HelveticaMono.ttf
If you rename the Helveticas into the DroidSans names, back up the old fonts somewhere else, and then put your renamed fonts in the /system/fonts folder, it will work. Since we don't have /system write access while in the device, we can't tell Android to look at our different fonts while running - we just have to replace what's there.
I have attached a zip with random the font files I renamed. The non-mono fonts came from a font called Comfortaa; the mono is Vera Sans Mono. These are plug-and-play - back up your old versions of DroidSans.ttf, DroidSans-Bold.ttf and DroidSansMono.ttf and push these to your /system/fonts folder in their place. Replacing DroidSans.ttf pretty much updates everything in the system.
Thanks Masdroid
No worries bud.

What do you mean open a separate command line window, open it where?
And do you know any sites or anything which convert fonts to .ttf?
While your phone is connected via USB and in Recovery Mode (green and black menu), simply open up another command prompt window (Start > Run > type cmd, press Ok). Access adb and execute commands.
Nope, not aware of any sites that convert fonts to .ttf - try Google or Bing

I just wanted to post this too
You have to download HTC Sync (because of the drivers) before you can use this suite on your desire
Hi ! I was trying to change the lockscreen font ( Clockopia.tff ) with Root Explorer ( just renamed the old one and placed another font there ( named Clockopia.tff ofc )), but it resulted in bootloop. So what am I missing here?
A little help would be apreciated! Thought I'd ask in this thread and not create a new one.
EDIT: Found a little program called Type Fresh, installed it to my Desire and changed the font. I was afraid the font was some way corrupted, but I guess not.
Is it possible for me to just take the mms.apk from a gb rom and install it on my current asop rom without any issues ?
My current rom doesnt use the asop mms.apk and I want to go back to it
Also if its possible and someone has that mms.apk can you please post it
Here You go! The file's attached. I recommend it to install it with ADB. You may also use (I think) something like Root Explorer, which I don't use, because it is a paid app Here I present you a free way to do it.
How to do it? Here (I'm assuming you use Windows):
1) First make sure You install Your phone's USB drivers in your system
2) Then download Android's SDK:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
3) Don't really remember how it went after Installation, but you should have an "android-sdk-windows" folder (assuming you use Windows). Put it on your Desktop.
4) Enable USB Debugging in your phone (Under Applicaions -> Development in Settings). Then connect your phone to PC via USB
5) Do a WinKey+R combo. "Run" window should appear. Type
Code:
cmd
and hit Enter.
6) A black console should appear. Type:
Code:
cd Desktop
cd android-sdk-windows
cd platform-tools
dir
you should be able to do a bunch of files, including adb.exe. If you don't, you either messed up folder names or didn't put android sdk folder in your Desktop.
7) Now (in normal Windows Explorer) move Mms.apk to your platform-tools folder inside android-sdk-windows.
8) Now, in console do:
Code:
adb start-server
adb remount (if at this point it says "no device found" you either screwed up your phone's USB drivers, or USB connection, or something else, no idea)
adb shell
9) Now type:
Code:
cd /system/app
cp Mms.apk Mms.apk.bak (to backup your current messaging app, in case something goes wrong, you just do the opposite - cp Mms.apk.bak Mms.apk)
exit
10) Now type:
Code:
adb push Mms.apk /system/app/Mms.apk (should say it's fine)
adb kill-server
Remove your phone from USB, reboot it. Should be done just fine.
Thanks so much warnec!
Im hoping this solves my delayed sms problem with htc messaging app.
Also, i installed this on my Incredible S with revolution hd 2.3.3, and sometimes it force closes, is this normal?
Regards
I just posted this in General but realized this might be a more appropriate place for it ..

Hello all,
This happens to be my first post. This is about changing the boot animation without having the root access to your phone/tablet.
First of all you need to have a bootanimation.zip ready with you that suits your phone's resolution.
Instructions for changing bootanimation:
1. You will need android SDK installed on your PC. For those who do not know what it is, Download android SDK and extract to some folder.
2. Open command prompt and navigate to the folder having adb.exe (previously extracted folder.)
3. Place bootanimation.zip in the same folder.
3. Type the following command:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
4. DONE.
5. To preview the bootanimation, enter this command:
adb shell bootanimation
Do not forget to hit Thanks if it worked for you
In Sense ROM (no rooted phone) bootanimation is in the folder system/customize/resources ...

does this thing work
So, I have been theming a few aspects of my phone (very minor), but one thing I had wanted was to completely remove the statusbar as I really wanted that extra space, and I found it was very unneeded for my frame.
I did some Googling till I found a couple of sources, and dove in. A few stressful hours later, I had no status bar, but could still use gestures from Nova / Pie to access it when I wanted to.
I am not the greatest at explaining things, but hopefully I will convey the steps on how to do this easily.
Pre-Reqs:
1) ADB installed on Computer
2) Windows
-That's what I used. I'm sure it's possible to use a Mac, but this guide is solely for Windows
3) Rooted
-Not tested on non-rooted
4) 7zip (I found it worked better than winRAR for this)
5) Download this file: http://www.speedyshare.com/n6ahB/download/resources.arsc
-This file is the file with all the measurements inside it that is taken from my Note 2
-Click the file name on the very top of the link to start the download. Tricky Ads
Because the file I edited contained very basic sizing, dpi, etc information, it should work on any custom ROM that is 4.1.2 or 4.2.2. I am currently running Team Whomps 4.1.2 ROM (V. 4.2).
The file that I edited should in no way brick your phone. Worst case scenario, it may cause boot loops. But, as always, I am not responsible for what happens to your phone if it does burst into flames, or any other negative scenario.
Steps:
Optional (Recommended): Make a nandroid backup before proceeding)
1) Boot your phone into recovery and make sure your system / root is mounted to your computer on your recovery screen
2) Connect your phone to your Windows PC
3) First, make sure it is showing up on ADB by opening up command prompt on your PC, and type "adb devices" - without quotes
-If it doesn't show up, make sure drivers, etc, are installed and don't continue until it shows up
-If it DOES show up, please continue
4) Change directories to your C drive by typing in command prompt: "cd / " without quotes, and a space in between the 'cd' and '/'
5) Now type the following commands in command prompt:
Code:
adb remount
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk
(Once it fully transfers the ~24Mb, Continue)
adb shell
cd /system/framework/
rm framework-res.apk
Now, you have the framework-res.apk file on your computer's C Drive, and have removed it from your device. Close the command prompt.
6) Make a backup of this framework-res.apk file just in case this doesn't work for you, you can push your old framework back to your device.
7) Right click on the framework-res.apk file, and click "Open Archive"
-I don't recommend extracting it, then rebuilding it, as that caused boot loops for me. So, just open the archive so you can see the inside of the file
8) Click on the "resources.arsc" and delete it from the archive.
9) Drag the "resources.arsc" that I PROVIDED into the archive. It should give you a prompt, asking if you are sure to add it. Click Yes.
10) Exit out of 7zip. Now we need to push this file back on our device.
11) Upon up command prompt, and type the following commands:
Code:
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/
adb shell
cd /system/framework/
chown 0.0 framework-res.apk
chmod 0644 framework-res.apk
This sets the permissions on the apk file, and pushes it to where it is supposed to be on your device.
12) Close command prompt, and on your device wipe cache/dalvik
13) Reboot
The first time you boot, it will take a little longer than normal. It may freeze for about 5 seconds when loading apps. Just give it a minute.
If you have waited longer than 5 minutes, then reboot into recovery and "Fix Permissions" and reboot again.
If it still doesn't work, then let me know and I'll post a guide on how to modify your own "resources.arsc" file from your own "framework-res.apk" file. You will have to repeat the above steps, deleting the "framework-res.apk" file on your device, and then pushing the "framework-res.apk" file that you had backed up back onto your device. Then everything should be back to how it was.
Let me know if this helped anyone! . I know that statusbar was driving me crazy, personally.
REMEMBER, because the status bar is no longer "Click-Able" - you can't pull it down anymore. You have to use PIE / Gestures / Apps to force pull it down in order to go to your Toggles, etc.
BUGS:
The only bugs I have experienced after a day with this MOD, is that once you use PIE / Gestures / Etc to pull down the notification bar, you can no longer push it back up by flinging it. Instead, you have to hit the "Back" button. Not a huge deal, but thought I'd mention it. I think if I adjust the DPI of my screen to account for the loss of the status bar (which had a width of 25 units), it may work again.
Reserved in case I add additional information
This is very interesting, but only something I would really want with the stock rom. I'll have to do some testing then....

Here is how my screen looks with no status bar on a couple apps. I like the extra space.
It would be good with auto hide! !!!
