I have been having poor battery life with blazer 4.0 When I leave my phone overnight the battery percentage drops 20-30%. I have been using blazer since 3.x and always had great battery life. My phone is about 4 months old. Anyone else having this problem?

No, great battery life here, be sure to wipe battery stats, and update to the latest kernel.

Which kernel are you using? I'm on EL29 right now
I've been having much worse battery life with 4.0 recently, I'm not sure what happened. I was having amazing battery life before. I've tried reflashing and calibrating nothing has gotten better. It could POSSIBLY be the FC/FB modems killing my battery, I used to use EL29.

I'm running modem ek02 on my phone. I've tired the el modems and ek02 seems to work best on my phone. I haven't tried the fb modems yet. I have also tired reflashing and calibrating the battery.
Same here.I removed about 50 apk's including WiMax apk's(because im on Virgin Mobile) using 7zip before flashing this rom and my battery lasts only 12-14 hours with moderate use.
When i first got my Epic i flashed GB MIUI and i was amazed with battery life,it lasted more than 2 days, and sometimes the battery just would not die, lol.
I want to go back to MIUI so bad but all the devs jumped on ics(to early if you ask me) and GB MIUI doesn't get updates anymore and it doesn't have HW acceleration. But its almost perfect as daily driver.
I chose Blazer instead of Calcun's because it was more clean but im definitely not impressed with battery,i odexed it too.I haven't flashed any kernels or modems with it,can anyone recommend kernel/modem combo for Blazer 4.0?Maybe that will improve my battery life.
I noticed battery indicator is not accurate because my phone will shut down when battery reaches 3-4%,maybe its Starburst theme that i use on it idk.

Right. So a friend of my friend made me root his phone a while back and I threw mikg 2.52 on it and all was good. Now the guy contacted me today and said his battery life was in the crapper and wants me to change it to something more battery life favored since he isn't by a charger for a long time throughout the day. And since I have been using the new ics roms and jumping back and forth often I don't really know what to give him now.
So what's your opinions? I need something stable as a rock and best battery possible. I need this to last him a while since I almost never see this guy... Haha
P.s. I know people hate these kind of post. Just bear with me here because I'm meeting this guy tomorrow morning and have to know what I should flash for him. Also no aosp please.

You could have him try the one in your sig. It gave me great battery life when I used it, but as always, YMMV. You really have to try them out and see which gives the best battery life for you.
Also could try apps like Juice Defender or similar that aim to optimize battery life.
The only rom i can think of that ive used that doesnt drain your battery would be cm7 or decks gb. Ive used it myself & ive seen good battery life even with my cpu overclocked.
Does it work on viper rom? V2 redline? Thanks! Please let me know
I have the latest MIUI by Swiper, and since 2.2.6, my battery life has been phenomenal with Tiamat kernel 4.1.0, Car-O-Dope tweaks and Vipermod -50.
Phenomenal as in comes off the charger at 6AM and when I get home from work at 5, it's still over 80%

I can confirm this.. ALthough I use 2.3.2 b1 and 3.3.7 sbc kernel as I had some reboot issues with 4.1.0 but yeah.. I'm still at 100 percent at 11:00 am (work at 8).. come home and still at 90. go to bed and hit the charger right above 80. It's unreal.. I consider myself a heavy user too... email, sms, phone calls... etc.
I am currently using Swiper's 2.3.2 b1 with 3.3.7 sbc and have not run into any issues. Battery life is great with this combination for me. Also, keep in mind that I do not run many widgets except an calendar agenda widget.
Myn's Warm series rom's always gave me the best battery life.
i use energy sense 3.5 rom with anthrax kernel. iv had decent battery life w it. about 14 hours or so w moderate use and in and out of roam looking for signal. from what iv read CM7 and MIUI roms are much better with battery life than sense roms. they also seem to be more customizable.

80% at night with heavy use throughout the entire day? I can't believe that. Screenshot? If someone else can validate this, I might try the rom with LEE kernel.

He did mention no AOSP (although AOSP really does have the best battery life IMHO)
Koni's Elite Series III combined with netarchy-toastmod HAVS-less had decent battery life, only issue is that was a Froyo build.
kluster1999: I agree, pic would be awesome.
I don't mean to sound rude, but different ROM and kernel combinations can only make so much of a difference. I'm skeptical of claims of amazing battery life with heavy usage because in the end, the battery is still the same size and the large screen still draws a lot of power.
Been having great Battery life with "The Exress" using" Lionfish more" kernnal and smurfed out....
Hey everyone, I've had my Epic 4G Touch since the day it came out for Sprint and have always had good battery life. On Blazer I would get about 2 full days of battery life. However, Ive been flashing AOKP updates since Build 32 and have always had worse battery life on them. After Build 36, I switched back to Blazer 4.1 and I STILL have TERRIBLE battery life. My phone gets hot and lasts about 6 hours. Most of the consumption is from the display and OS but it sits in deep sleep most of the time. I was wondering if my battery was bad, but that doesn't explain the heat issues. Any ideas on what it could be? Thanks in advance everyone! Hope we can figure this out.

I was having this same problem when I had my E4GT I had beautiful battery life when I was on GB roms but when the ICS roms leaked and I flashed them and went back to GB I got the WORST battery life on everything I would get 8 hours max on them. I think the early leaked roms may due some damage or something... Just one mans theory though
First, have you tried one-click odin back to stock Gingerbread yet?
Also, since you're having issues, it wouldn't hurt to also format both the internal and external SD's before going back to stock rooted (from the settings/storage submenu). I'm a firm believer that a ton of junk and temp files get stored there and it's not a bad idea to remove all those 'leftovers' once in a while and really start fresh.
Edit: FYI, you have to unmount external SD first to format it. Don't mount it into a pc, do this from the phone.
I'll try to make this as simple as possible.
On VeNuM's GB ROM, I was getting at least a day on my battery, it was fantastic. Modem was EL29 (I believe, possibly 26 though). I could use the phone a lot and it still got good battery life. With the verizon PRL, forcing roaming 24/7, I could almost get two days on it since there was less time it was "Searching for service"
Now on ICS (have done stock, calk, venum), I have been getting dreadful battery life. Take it off the charger at 9 and by 3, after using the phone during my hour commute, it's dead. The place that I work has pretty bad service for sprint, barely hovers at 1 bar if I even have service at all. One thing I have also noticed is that even on stock (and stock PRL), my phone does not seem to roam, at all.
Here was day one on FE22 stock: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mwjr5j3nd5vgody/2012-06-06 15.36.08.png
Day one calk FE22: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0lroppsxl1bzbup/2012-06-07 18.14.04.png
Battery 2nd: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pttz5fla4us8evk/2012-06-07 18.14.08.png
You'll notice that there are a few bumps at the end. I did have it charging on the comp for a little bit before I left work, those are the two spikes. HOWEVER, it also rose on its own. It went down to 5% and then went UP to 6%, staying there for a bit and then going down.
There seems to be something funky going on, but I just dont know what. I'm currently testing what the difference is with the verizon PRL, I have that on there now.
Are there some battery logs I can post to perhaps decode this puzzle?
-----------------------------
Second question. How do I go about downgrading from ICS to GB?
Thanks a lot.
You should try calibrating your battery and wiping the battery stats at 100%. That would speed up the settling in.
I suggest using sfhubs Odin one click package to revert back to GB.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Something is keeping your phone awake. Download badass battery monitor and check whats using up your battery.!
I'll do that right now. I just took it off the charger an hour ago and it's down to 85, just sitting in my pocket. I'll let it charge back up to 100 and then clear battery stats. I'll use it today and if it's still bad, revert to GB.
You look at the pics? They're depressing.
i definitely think you have apps causing wakelocks. try disabling dropbox, facebook and other random programs that sync, same goes for other stuff u may have polling for updates. with exchange syncing every 15 minutes i think i get better battery life vs push. Kobridge tweaks helped a ton.
white signal bars- cm9, the other is stock fe22 w/kobridge
id defintely search the forums for better battery stats (the dev made it available for free to xda users) or badass battery monitor in the market (also free)
I'm on Kobridge aggressive! I tried moderate as well.
Can anyone else confirm the first reply as to how to downgrade to GB? A direct link would be nice as well.

Battery life is not as good on ics and I too had the same the same problem. System monitor wouldn't pick up any program eating up CPU. Took me for a few day to realize I had a bad install. I had to Odin back to el26 and re install. That seemed to fix my problems. Which is my understanding is the procedure one is supposed to take when flashing from ics. So regardless your flashing back GB everytime you flash roms. but might want to give ics another shot when you flash correctly.

Must say it took me several weeks to find the right combination of parts to get my battery right.
I found that several of the newer modems were overheating my phone and draining my battery in a couple hours. Right now I'm running wicked ff02 rom, agats ff02 kernel and fe21 modem. Battery never get above 90 degrees; and yesterday I got an 8 hour day of work with heavy use (no mid day charge).
Edit: I tried venums boa rom, with very good results too. He included badass battery monitor, which seems to be one of the best of the bunch.

I did downgrade back to GB, running Blazer's EL29 rom with verizon PRL right now and from what I saw it was decent, even through the first battery cycle with the ROM. I'll see how it runs this weekend.
If I want to go back to ICS, can I flash straight from EL29 or should I flash the EL26 kernel first and then upgrade?

ICS Battery life
I have been running "Wicked Sensations" now for 4 days, with the FF09 Modem. I also added the FF11 Kobridge Tweaks to the mix using the aggressive zip. I have been getting roughly 15 to 18 hours out of my battery. I keep my screen about 15% on the slider for brightness. I am heavy user and this seems to be the best combination for my SII. I came from Calkulin's 3.0 GB... If you decide to go back to ICS, this combination. Good luck.
I give up.every ROM I run just doesn't have the battery life expected. Am I expecting to much? Not even Cauks or blazer el29 doesn't give the battery life as stock.don't get me wrong they are all great roms but at least for my device not battery friendly. I'll post some battery stats from BBS if anybody has some free time to see what's going on. I'm on Cauks el29 now.I format everything before flashing and I use cauks format all many times. I'm on the verge of staying on stock roll my eyes.

Well when is the last time you used stock? And if it's been quite a while...consider having your battery checked out. Anyway, I'll continue as if your battery is fine from here on out. Basically, anything but stock tends to have a modified kernel. Even with all the battery tweaks, etc out there, there's a chance that the kernel itself might not play well with your phone. I'm not too versed in that, but I also noticed that the TouchWiz based ICS kernels/ROMs give MUCH better battery life than AOSP based kernels/ROMs such as CM9 and AOKP, etc. This is just basic stuff you might already know, but yeah, just go on and post your battery stats, preferably with a custom rom and a stock rom so we can see the difference and where it lies. Also, I'm running Touched by a Galaxy S3 on my phone and with moderate use (music for maybe a few hours a day, texting, don't really make many calls) I average between 8.5 and 11 hours from 100 to 0. Another thing I'd suggest is download CPU Spy from the Android market, or something similar if you prefer, and post screenshots from that on the custom ROM; the problem with AOSP and certain other GB and TW ICS roms that i've seen is that something prevents the processor from going into deep sleep mode, usually keeping it at 200mhz or higher. Lastly, when you use the custom roms, do you notice the phone getting really hot compared to the stock roms?
I'm assuming you know this but are you letting the battery cycle a few times before passing judgement? I usually spend a week on a rom before I decide if I have good/bad battery life... attached screenie is normal for me with moderate use on mijjhs goodness rom

Agree, everyone have different experiences, I haven't try that ROM yet, I will test it out later. Have a nice day/night sir.
Sadly I have to agree with OP.
And the previous screenshots at 59% with 1hr, 36 screen on is exactly the issue.
Hard to compare your battery stats with mine since screen on time for my phone will be 4+ hours.
Since there are no standardized testing anyone can do with any rom, any speculation on which rom has better battery life or doesn't is just pure bogus seat of the pants gut feelings.
If there were a standard test that ran like. 5 minutes of mail with 20 mails received, 10 minutes download, 30 mins of playing the exact same video, 13 music tracks of the exact same song all with screen, vibration, brightness, etc all at the exact same level, you could get a real test, but, alas, nobody has a standardized test.
For MY usage, stock clocks in at the same as or better than just about any other rom I've tried, including all the various super scripts out there.
I guess I just overuse my phone!

Things drain battery. This is my test off wifi for the most part using the phone as a phone with average use. Didn't even log in to Google on this one. Just proof that intensive applications, google services, and anything else added after a "factory flash" can manipulate battery life significantly.
Oh, and check out drain when I'm in less than ideal coverage. Noticeable difference. One huge factor to consider when diagnosing battery life.
It really depends on what you're doing with the phone. Obviously having brightness up playing heavy games with Wimax on will kill battery faster than someone on low brightness reading an ebook with wifi on. That said, i agree that I've had better battery life stock than almost all ics roms.

Truth to the last word.. I hate battery life threads too many variables.. I love the part about " using the phone as a phone " you crack me up B..
The last few nights, I have tried a few different JB Roms. All with the same results. My GNex has a full charge before I go to bed, I wake to my phone telling me to charge it 8 hours later. With NO wifi or network data on. This can't be normal.
The roms:
ASCENT 3.0
Jelly Belly 4.0
New Unofficial Cyanogen Release.
No extra apps installed. Purely stock.
Tonight, I'll try it in airplane mode, and see if my network coverage is what's draining the battery. But for the most part I'm never without a signal.
Any ideas or ways I can see if the battery is just bad?
Also, what would the current Verizon radios be? I believe mine are up to date, but I guess that could be an issue if it is indeed my network signal being dropped.
Im on the 07/27 fitsugly cm10 rom with r225 franco kernel and for some reason my battery life has gone through the roof, after 30 hours of being on the battery is still at 56%. Granted im not using it much now but still i've never seen this type of battery life before. Overnight the battery dropped maybe 4% at best, wifi is always on and its fetching emails.
How odd have you tried charging up and resetting the battery stats ? May help

I installed the newest version of the ROM. I was curios what the different GPU kernels were for. Is there one that Toro should use rather than the other? I think I installed the 512 version. Should I not have?
Minooch + franco.Kernel #223 (see attached files). I haven't used my phone much in past 24 hours, but battery life is awesome. I use latest bootloader and radio firmware, CPU is set on interactive governor, 1420-384MHz, max screen off CPU frequancy - 729MHz, 512MHz on GPU.
I think I tried that ROM before, not sure if its just for maguro. I have a Verizon toro.

I installed the newest version of the ROM. I was curios what the different GPU kernels were for. Is there one that Toro should use rather than the other? I think I installed the 512 version. Should I not have?

If you don't need the higher clocked gpu speeds then just stick with the 384mhz kernel.

Pretty much identical battery life im getting right now, battery monitor is saying im sipping 8mA of battery when idling.
Yeah, No MiNCO toro release. :|
Went with the ROM and latest Kernel, and I can't believe the battery life. Tonight will be the real test though.

Try better battery stats... I am on gsm nexus.
I tried jelly belly, minco , paranoid android, and xenonHD plus bigxies stock. I've used Francisco Francos kernel on bigxies and that gave good battery life but the others all burned cpu and battery, specifically via Android.mediascanningservice. and maps.
Right now I am back to stock 4.1.1 rooted courtesy of rom toolkit and with better battery stats and cpu spy I have a cool phone.
One thing you should be aware of is if you have a lot of media on your phone the scanning service can take a long time to run and calm down. I I upgraded my bosses razr to ICS and his phone took all night to update I guess he has lots of music on it...
To increase battery life you can install titanium backup and freeze maps, and wallet when I not in use. You can install rescan media from the app store and trunk off media scanning service. Or just buy a bigger battery.
This is not a knock on the custom roms. The rom teams mentioned above they are all awesome and are the reason us crackflashers have so much fun. I have learned lots from this experience and have a better grasp on how my phone works due to the efforts of these devs. For now I am sticking with stock... I'm sure I'll be flashing again soon.
You can never judge a ROM on battery life within a day. Every ROM I flash gets bad battery on the first cycle and most the time even the second cycle. You really have to stick with a ROM/kernel combination for at least a few days to be able to judge battery life. It may just be a placebo effect but I use a battery calibration app each time I flash

Resetting battery stats accomplishes nothing related to battery life or reported percentage. It's been debunked some time back by Google.
