How to flash stock rom after rooting - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i rooted my xPlay using zerg rush method, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859. Then I also installed cwm recovery and tried to flash the zip file for xperia s from another thread but had problems like google market not working and music player force closing. You flashed a zip file that was meant for the Xperia S? They're not really compatible with one another... Well, anyway, yes, using Flashtool to flash back to stock should solve any issues in the ROM

How To Install JJ's HYBRID ROM

Hey guys,
I had an Xperia Play for sometime. I taken the plunge to install a custom rom. I have tried before but I keep failing as my phone gets stuck at the Sony Ericsson logo.
Basically I want to install JJ's HYBRID ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1573547
It says to boot in CWM which I did and do a full wipe and flash. I wipe then install zip file.
I am using 4.0.2.a.0.42 rooted with CWM. I amalso using stock kernel. mainly because I dont know how to install doomkernel because I dont know what is fastboot and how to use it because majority of the posts assume you know about this.
Also I want to try to jokawild rom but it tells me to flash to 0.62 baseband. but I cant root it aso how do I install cwm. Am I missing something does doomkernel come with cmw? sorry im a noob
Please help!
thanks in advance
Have you unlocked your bootloader as you use fastboot for that. You will need to flash a custom Kernal like dooms to be able to install custom Roms.
BTW This should be in Q&A section.

How to flash CWM to unlocked bootloader ICS Arc S

Hi, I have a unbranded, unlocked Arc S, running ICS, and I want to flash the 4.04 image, which comes as a CWM zip.
Everything is currently stock but rooted.
The 4.04 update is a ZIP (rather than a FTF), so I think I need CWM installed to flash the update. I can't find anything that tells me how.
I found a easy installer, but it categorically says don't use it with ICS.
HELP!!!
CWM Auto-Installer
Try CWM auto-installer, you can find it in Play Store and it worked to me.
Look in the dev section for the stock ics kernel with cwm is the simplest way.

Use fastboot to boot either a custom kernel like ArcNight or DoomKernel, or cobratos modded stock. They contain cwm, on boot repeatedly press any of the h/w keys to enter cwm and flash the zip on the sdcard.

I only ever found the old beta kernel for ICS, not the final one. Got a link?
I tried the auto CWM installer, and yes it did install onto stock ICS, and I managed to install the 4.04 ZIP, but now it just hangs on the Sony startup screen.
Any advice on how to get back to something that works?
Sorry I haven't looked at that Rom as it's a dev Rom thats been ported, before installing that Rom did you make a cwm backup? Otherwise you install another Rom.

Before flashing a ics rom in zip format you need to flash a complete ics (ftf file) via flashtool /pc companion /seus.

[Q] create ftf file

hello.
i have try create a ftf file from stock 587 rom but i like to include root and cwm recovery in the ftf file.

i have a arc s with locked bootloader.
my ideia is ever i try flash a new rom and if my phone stopped in sony screen, i don't need to flash with flashtool and root and install cwm again.

CWM question - a scenario......

An xperia S. Locked bootloader but rooted with cwm installed.
Stock gingerbread firmware installed
If i downloaded a pre rooted zip file of ICS stock firmware and flashed via cwm would it work?
As in can cwm flash the kernel/boot.img even if the bootloader is locked but the kernel/boot.img is still stock sony?

If you want flash stock ICS when you are on GB, you MUST be on ICS first. Then you can flash ICS with CWM.
You can't flash stock kernel with CWM. You should use flashtool to do this.

ftf vs zip

Hello,
i'm sorry if the question has already posted but i still haven't understood what to do.
I'd like to try a modded .200 rom and i'm driving an EOS rom at the moment.
What i've read is that to installa a .200 i need to go back to .55, root it, install original .200, roor&recovery and then install my preferred rom.
What i'm asking, is there a way to straight install a .200 rom? If i download a .200 original .ftf, can i flash it over my EOS rom, root it and then install my preferred rom without going trough a .55 rom?
Doesn't a .ftf install also the baseband and kernel?
Thanks

You don't have to do all that. Since you are using EOS rom , your boot loader must be unlocked so just download the .200 ROM and a .200 kernel like doom kernel or trinity kernel. Place both on your SD card. Then first flash the kernel in cwm. Then reboot and again enter cwm. Do all your wipes and flash the ROM. And yes, ftf installs the baseband also.
