You can install any boot animation with a 800*480 resolution with any ROM.
You just have to know that not every ROMs saves the bootanimation.zip in the same folder. So just check the one used by the ROM you want to install it onto.
Actually you can flash boot animations with different resolutions, or at least, higher resolutions.
They'll just look horrific due to down-sampling.

I've been wondering the same thing as the OP, i want to get the boot animation from Virtuous G-lite onto G2 Slim but i'm not quite sure what to do. Could anyone help me out?
Get the rom.zip's, open them up.
bootanimation.zip is normally found in /system/media/ (for aosp, can't quite remember for sense)
swap it.

Do you mean the Boot animation? If so there are many good custom ones. Instructions can usually be found within those threads..

What ROM are you using? I have never seen a reboot or shut-down animation and have no idea why there would be one

I use that ROM and have the boot animation customized. Just look at the links DirkGently1 posted. Make sure though its compatible with Leedroids kernel. i flashed one the other day and ended up in a boot loop no matter what cache i cleaned after.
I'm running cm7.2 and am trying to get a custom shutdown animation.
I've successfully installed a splash screen and boot animation, but can't figure out for the life of me how to get a shutdown animation. Right now all it shows is a spinner with the text "Rebooting..."
I've tried the method described here:
Boot/Down Animations
but with no luck.
I've also tried putting the png's into /system/media/video/shutdown but that didn't work either.
Anyone have success with this? With my old Fascinate I got it working with cm7. Is it not possible? Thanks!
I believe u put the downanimation.zip in /system/customize/resources . At least I know that's what I do on skyraider Zeus 1.3. Maybe somebody else can confirm this.

Ok. I have never ran aosp roms very long. Just didn't care for them very much aesthetically.

Compared to CM7, MIUI is very pleasing to the eye. I would give that a try too.
I'm running Freeza's 1.7 and I'm loving it, but I'm not a fan of the boot animation (the galaxy nexus boot animation). I am wondering how I can go about changing it to the international GS3 animation. I've tried searching and haven't found anything. Thanks for any help.
anyone.?

I am also interested in this as well... I've been trying to find a bootanimation.zip of the SAMSUNG logo and it's animation...
Not a fan of seeing the "android" animation and haven't quite found a good alternate animation that catches my eye. xD
Now, if we push home button, no animation occurs. It just like the apps and back to home screen in sudden.
Can I get jelly bean transition animation in sense 4+? I see what ica did before if there is any flashable theme for me to flash in jelly bean... Thanks

HTC Sense launcher uses it's own animations so unless you know how to edit it yourself, you can't do anything about it.
Tried this zip, but nothing happen..

I think someone may take a look on it, may be it helps

It does work, for animations outside of HTC Sense launcher. To flash it, you have to mount /system in CWM or else it won't flash properly.

Hi.. this is exactly what i want to do. change the transition animation, when switching from one app to another. it just like no animation at all. and it's really ugly.
tried many way to change it: flash from zip, use ninjamorph, manual change on anim folder inside framework-res.apk. but none of them work.
tried that mentioned framework tool but always says "something went wrong"
i can change window transition with all those methods, but why they wont work for transition animation?
any suggestion?
thanks

A question for all you miui users.
At the moment in am running Eva. Miui, and its far better than any rom I've used before.
But there are a few tiny things that need ironing out, like white text on a white background on some apps (ebay for one) and sometimes I see Japanese characters, cant remember where, but it was definitely part of the system.
I guess the question is what one is the best, smoothest, most complete English gingerbread miui?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda app-developers app
I've used MrGarak and "a user" miui roms. They are both excellent roms but the latest one is a little newer.
Here are the links for both of them:
MrGarak
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11656331
a user
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16209966
You could also search the latest miui gingerbread versions in these sites: miuiandroid.com or miui.us. I'm sure they are both excellent roms as well.

Cheers man, they I like the look of mcgaraks rom, but it just won't download for some reason.
I'm sure il find a mirror somewhere if not il just check out a users. What was your preference out of the two?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda app-developers app
Both of them are great. If you want the last gingerbread version of miui choose the one from a user. On the other hand, MrGarak version includes 4-way reboot and extended settings mod (latest a user version does not). I remember I took miui.us rom and merged some files into a user's rom in order to get 4-way reboot working. MrGarak's rom comes with a black theme but if you want the white one (default), you could search in his thread how to get it. I think you just have to replace a theme filename.

Still can't find a link for Mrgaraks rom, so will probably end up using a users, i will miss the 4 way reboot though. Mrgaraks sounds more stable but I could be wrong
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda app-developers app
I can upload both roms somewhere and send you the links for download.
I have MrGarak and a user roms, both with 4-way reboot and extended settings mod included.
Let me know if you want me to do that.

I've used RD MIUI without issue, I haven't tried any other (went onto ICS and now JB miui's), but I could recommend that for you to try.
If you don't have sound, you'll need to flash another kernel. Depending on which, you may have to delete a certain file (I know lord clockan's do). However, the process is explained in most kernel threads.
