My usb port only charges. No other stuff works. My usb jig won't work, odin won't recognize it and it won't connect to a computer. Nothing happened to the device physically, any ideas?
I have the exact same problem with my Galaxy Tab 10.1, charges but PC won't recognize it.

No, it doesn't respond to my jig. I think a pin broke or something. I'm taking it in to the store, hopefully they won't mind a cm9 build

Usb jig works on el29 and before not on ics roms. As for usb connecting to pc. Did you enable it in settings/more?

The jig still boots into Odin mode, it just doesn't reset the counter with a new bootloader. Mine doesn't do anything. As for the settings I have adb and mass storage enabled, and my pc won't even recognize the hardware in device manager. Sadly I think it is toast. Hopefully sprint is good to me.

Hi
I am trying to install '4EXTRecovery v2.1.3' however it wont work.
Do I need to root my phone before doing this.
The major problem I am facing is that everytime try to run a cmd file it
says
'error: device not found'
I have tried using visionary that doesnt work either, it doesnt temporary root so I cant to the perm root afterwards.
I have android 2.3.
Software no: 2.37.61.11
Visionary+
rooting phone please wait> then comes a black screen and if you click back on visionary it doesnt open, so I cant perm root after temproot
I am not trying to install any rom right now, what I do want to do is format the whole phone so it has nothing on it, except the '4EXTRecovery v2.1.3 loader so I can install my own rom later on.

this tool obviously seems to need s-off as well as root rights, so you'd need to downgrade.
but the device not found issue may be caused by missing adb drivers, so install HTC sync and try again, and don't forget to choose "Charge only" and enable USB-Debugging!
Alskarl is right.
You need to downgrade using a goldcard before you can use visionary.
Once you have downgraded you can use it.
once you have root you must eng-off/s-off to install a rom.
Also the other problem is due to missing drivers as alskarl said. =)

its because the adb drivers are not installed properly. i had this problem but never solved it and gave up. i re-installed numerous times with no luck, i tried everything and even installed drivers maually. still doesnt work now. my advice is try another pc. if you cant do that then start a new thread. sorry i cant help any more.
I had this same problem recently when attempting to root my wife's phone. After I rebooted my PC and deleted the USB devices from Device Manager it seemed to find it on the next hardware search and it configured it as a Android 1.0 device. Don't know how much help this will be but just thought I'd throw my personal experience out there.
adb server is out of date: killing
Could you please tell me what that means and how I can fix it.
Can you please tell me If I have been successful in installing 4extrecovery.
if i have then how do I access it on my phone.
Thanks
that "out of date" message is normal, I get that as well and android is just working fine for me
Power down. Hold the volume button down and press power. Keep holding the volume button until you enter hboot then select recovery. If it was flashed properly it should load into the recovery console.

When it says searching for or installing new device wait for it to fail and click the search manually option [I'm not sure exactly what the options called] then find it manually and install the downloaded driver.
*note- if you don't have the epic 4g driver use google to find it and save it somewhere you can find it easy.
If your computer recognizes it then it should work.. if my instructions fail try unplugging you epic and dialing ##8778# a menu will pop up and try toggling modem or pda under the usb section, then try again. I hope that works for you.
-Singularis
Yeah some cables just suck though. Though I guess I am lucky no issues with my stock Samsung cable. Might also try a different port on a desktop if you are using desktop try back ports. I know sometimes the front ones cause issues with some devices, since it is a hub kinda on the front ports. Though if laptop, try different cable or what j7jman said.
i toggled the from pda to modem when i dialed ##8778# and it reads on odin but my pc doesn't prompt me to view files as the evo does.
Definately has to be something with the drivers. The cable is enough to transfer files and see it, so I would imagine it would be just fine for ODIN.
Next time you put it into download mode and plug it in, check your device manager. See if there are any bangs (yellow exclamation marks).
Also,
Try reinstalling the drivers, trying different USB ports on your computer, or trying a whole different computer within itself.
Let us know what you find.
Yeah about the double post, I was not thinking straight from being so frustrated from my usb problem. As I said I think my phone has the problem because my girls evo works fine with my pc. I just don't have any idea what else it could be.

So I would imagine that the Evo does not use the exact same driver. Nor does the Evo interface with Odin much like our Epic does.
Evo is made by HTC.

Thanks everybody I got my phone recognized finally and I flashed the EC05 modem. But now after I downloaded the update I hit install and yet powered down my device and it on the screen that says samsung. I waited about 10 minutes and nothing. So I pulled the battery out and turned it back on and it stayed stuck on that screen. So I pulled battery back out and I put phone into recovery mode and I selected apply update.zip from sd card and it aborts install. So I just selected reboot and it powered up correctly and I looked for the update file and I renamed it as update and put in on sdcard and I tried to flash the update in recovery and it aborted install again. What did I do wrong?

As far as I am aware, you can't install the OTA while rooted or with cwm installed. Its one of the two can remember which.
Use the eco5 to ei22 flash to update the modem, then flash a rom. Also might be helpful to flash acs recovery first.

Hey guys, longtime lurker, new poster. Lots of help from reading this board. I bought my SGS3 in August last year, and rooted it with the "no trip the counter" style root. I forget which one it was exactly. I didn't install Clockwork Mod or TWRP.
Fast forward to today, and I am trying to play around with my phone. So, I decide to look in the "About device/ status/ device status/" and it is listed as modified. This means it will not update to Jelly Bean. OH NOES! So thats why it didn't OTA update!
So, I download SGS3 toolbox and proceed to putter.
I decide that I will unroot the phone first and see what that does for me.
So, I go into SGS3 toolkit using the following options:
do not update, I pick my model (41. Android 4.04 [Build IMM76D ALG1]) and it goes to the main menu.
I pick option 2. Root/unroot device and read all the options. I pick Number 7 (unroot, etc.). This is where it goes sideways (I think). I read the prompt, and decide to tell it I do not have a custom recovery flashed.
I pick option 2 TWRP and it goes into download mode. ODIN opens. I pick the correct file (I read everything, as usual) and flash my phone. So far so Good.
SGS3toolkit asks me to pick a flash choice. I pick 2 (sideload root file). I press the any key
**************
I just noticed I have a driver issue. Will reboot pc and continue this in a few minutes. If you are reading this, check back soon. I'll keep you posted. GRRRR...
***************
OK, this is a tricky one. The drivers install fine, and the phone gets recognized. SGS3 Toolkit 7 recognizes the phone and it has the serial number. However, when in TWRP, it is supposed to install another driver of some sort, but on my PC, I look in "Devices and Printers" and look around, it lists my SGS3 as this:

Any suggestions? Uninstalling and reinstalling the Samsung USB drivers, running Ccleaner, and rebooting and reinstalling hasn't helped. What next, scrub the registry?
Thanks!
When you uninstalled the drivers, did you: uninstall, reboot pc, disconnect from Internet, connect s3 and install?
I believe you were rooted initially? I would have simply made a nandroid, wiped and flashed the latest stock firmware via odin

I did all of the above except disconnect from the internet. Just to be clear, the phone is still completely functional (i guess I didn't explicitly state that). Why would a live internet connection impact this?
Also, what driver is messing up in my photo? Is it a special driver of some sort?

Search for samsung drivers on this forum and download them. When you install a new device, it looks online for the drivers. You don't want those.
I figured the phone was working, I just would have used odin to flash the latest firmware, wiped and been done. Would have saved doing all those steps

In order to save you the hassle, because I changed a couple other tiny things, here are the files.

You will need to reboot your computer into PC Settings, General, Advanced Startup and choose Install drivers in unprotected mode (because this is a hacked driver). Than go to where you put this file (usually in C:\Program Files\SAMSUNG\USB Drivers\25_escape), right click it and select install. I have confirmed that this works on my SGH-I747 ATT phone.
I am by no means a programmer, but am alright with Windows stuff. This is my fix for this problem. Enjoy!
A lot of work just to get stock version of JB. ODIN and MrRobinson method would have worked and had you running in under half an hour...that includes downloading files if you have a decently fast internet connection.
With mobile ODIN no drivers required.

Perhaps, but this works, and having working drivers for th SGS3 on Win8 is a bit of an issue some have had, so I fixed it. With Google, they will hopefully find this thread and the file and have to do much less than me.
For starters, my Note 2 (AT&T) won't charge.
I have tried different outlets, and different chargers, but to no avail. All I get is the image below (I might add that all of those chargers work fine on my Nexus 10). After reading up on XDA, here, I get this:
{QUOTE}Movin On the SGS3/Note2/etc, System->Settings->About device->Status still shows "Modified"
This is outside the scope of Triangle Away. The "system" status is not even always resettable in the bootloader. If you are going for warranty, you need to also reflash a full stock firmware and wipe your device. If they boot up your device and find root apps, you're not going to get any warranty anyway. If you do such a full stock reflash and wipe, the "Modified" value will go away. See the post below this one for more information.{/QUOTE}
Now here is my problem. I want to reset my phone to use the warranty on it to replace the USB port (also, how does my phone have a bad usb port if I can get that to show up when plugged in, but no charge?). So I have to unroot and unmodify my system. How the heck am I supposed to reflash a full stock firmware on my Note 2 without being able to use my usb port?
I might also add that this was done with a 2.1 amp wall charger designed for such a phone.......its not like I am trying to charge it off a usb port in a computer or laptop
At this point, I just want it fixed hopefully by warranty regardless of what is wrong with it.
I wonder if there is a way to import the necessary files onto the sd card and flash that way??

But if your having problems with the usb port, then you can try this then:

Borrow a friend's battery or get a battery charger for the note two and recharge your battery. Then take the sd card out and put it into a reader and load it with the files. Then reinsert it into the phone to flash the stock recovery and then preform all the steps. Then go in for your warranty.
I think it could be the battery is bad.

I am so glad I can take this route. You guys are awesome!!!
I just ordered a card last night online, I will attempt to make this happens. Hopefully I will have good news to post in a few days
I downloaded the stock firmware, loaded it onto my ext sdcard, used mobile odin, and then nothing. I am stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Note Screen.
Did I forget to mention that in all of the excitement, I forgot to do a backup ROM?
I know the process didn't take because it still says I am custom on the OS download screen, and I can boot into CWM still.
Please tell me there is some hope!

this may just be meeee, but before when i borked my LG optimus G i had the bootloader unlocked, and rooted ON THE NEXUS 4 conversion, and one day it just would not boot up. so i just called att and told them it stopped working. they shipped me a new one (even though i was passed my 14 days because all att devices have a 1 year warranty as long as your a cutsomer) i knew in the back of my head that i had molested the phone but after i got the replacement back i sent my borked one, and never heard a word about it.
I considered that. But I would have to count on the person being a complete amateur to not try and pull up download mode to check for alterations. I would imagine they would be smart enough to look there first.
I managed to load jedi rom on the phone and I am using now. But I fear I will brick it again trying to go stock

My Note 2 had the same exact issue, and I found it to be an issue with the tip of the USB cord. Sometimes it won't go in deep enough. Try finding a slightly different one or sanding the plastic edges on the tip of the cord.
Hello internet, I'm a noob, so excuse my noobiness. Basically, I've managed to "brick" my SGH-T989D, also known as a Samsung Galaxy S2X, or Hercules; I'm on the Koodo network, and using 4.1.2 which I acquired from Kies. I was attempting to flash TWRP to achieve root using Odin as suggested by this website:
http://www.androidayos.com/2013/04/29/root-t989dtlumc4-samsung-galaxy-sii-sgh-t989d-teluskoodo-jelly-bean-4-1-2/
I followed the instructions, but Odin failed in the middle of the flashing. Now I'm stuck with this screen (not my picture):

One of the attachments is a screen shot of my "About Device" information from before I was bricked. I've tried flashing multiple stock ROMs through Odin, typically with a name similar to "T989DTLUMC4_T989DOYBMC4_KDO", but it consistently fails. The point at which it fails varies, and I'm not confident about what's causing the failure, but I've noticed it tends to hang up on "<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..", or fails at "<ID:0/003> Complete(Write) operation failed.". I'll attach a screenshot of what Odin looks like upon failure with the message box clearly visible. I don't have any recovery files, because, ironically, I was bricked while flashing a recovery to prevent bricking. Also, I'm open to trying things other than Odin.
I'd like assistance to get my phone back to a usable state (at least able to make calls, and text). I would be especially grateful if it ended up rooted, and/or with a safe method of flashing, and trying custom ROMs (I eventually wanted to have Cyanogen mod 10.1, and Clockworkmod Recovery). However, any help is appreciated; Thank you for your time.

You need to search for ODIN version 1.85... hard to tell what you're using but it looks very different from mine. ill try to attach a good copy of it. The one i used was nice.
In the mean time... have you gone into Kies and at the top select "tools" and "emergency recovery" or somethign similar to those words? that WILL restore your device to a usable state... that's guaranteed.

Hey! thanks for the reply. I was using Odin v3.07. I have a couple of screenshots for you. Kies wants me to provide a recovery code (screenshot), which is not given to me. I believe that option only works if your phone was bricked while updating using Kies. Also, Kies doesn't seem to be connecting to my phone. It never advances from the connecting screen (screenshot), and seems to give up when I navigate to different menus. This is probably due to the current state of my phone. Lastly, I downloaded Odin v1.85, but the flashing failed with a similar error (screenshot). I hope you have more ideas.
IT WORKED!! (screenshot) I don't know what's changed since the last time I tried it; why is Odin so inconsistent? Regardless, thank you to Droid8Apple, and XDA forums. There is a lot for me to learn in unlocking the potential of my android device.

You have to make sure Kies is disabled before using Odin, it'll cause Odin to either not recognise or fail.

Thank you for the advice; I'll certainly remember that. By disabled do you mean simply closed (clicking the red "X" at the top right), or is there something further I need to do like kill processes in the task manager, for example?
