I have been flashing ROMs for awhile now but never have updated radio/prl/etc. Anyway I am using CM7 and sometimes Kang but not sure if I need to flash a sense before I flash radio or combo if so which sense Rom would be best? Any advice on flashing radio or combo would be great! Thanks!
If you need to update the prl, you have to update it in a sense rom. You can then flash the combo zip one time then flash back to cm7.

When I do a NAND Backup, does it backup the radio???
Just wondering in case I have problems with the radio I flash... if I can go back to where I am today (including the radio)...
Thanks!
No it does not.
So what if I want to go back to my stock 1.36 radio (or would there be no reason for me to do this since 2.05 is that much better)?
Also, will the 2.05 radio work with any ROM (including my stock sprint rooted 1.32.651.6 firmware)?
Read. This has been discussed 100 times.
The new radio will only work with the newest stock OTA or a ROM that is based off the newest OTA which is clearly spelled out in the first post of any new ROM thread.
Ok... thx... I hate to follow up with more noob questions, but does that mean I need to flash a latest OTA rom before I can go to CM6 because I need to flash the lastest radio BEFORE installing cm6?
No, you can flash radios and kernels separately from ROMs. Just flash CM6, then flash a radio, and you should be good.

Follow the instructions on the thread for the ROM you want to install.
And since I can see this coming a mile away, if you flash CM6, you will lose 4G and HDMI. No there is no way around it. So don't do it then wonder why it doesn't work.
Thanks for the help... I was aware that Wimax and HDMI aren't working yet on CM6 RC1 .. but don't need either...
Hey, I was looking up many information regarding rooting. And I was able to root my device and flash a Rom. However, I did not flash a radio and everything seems to be working via internet, wifi, and phone calls. So is it still necessary, and what does it do exactly. I know this might be a noob answer.
What rom were you on, and what one did you flash?
Basically Froyo roms need the more recent radios.
I was using the latest official OTA 2.2 froyo before rooting. Then I used Clockword recovery, and flashed the LeeDroid Rom without its radio. Everything seems fine so far.

It is recommended that you do but not absolutely required. Some people use old Radio ROMS and it works perfectly. Try out a new Radio and see it is after a few days, worst case scenario, you flash the old one back.
froyo wont work proply without the newer radios, as the op already flashed the ota, he would of got a newer radio with it, therefore he dosent need to flash another one
oh i understand. thanks for the answers.
ok so i need the newest radio... because i got some wifi issues, im on 5.09.05.30_2 and i need 5.14 what is the safest way to do this without brick? im on insertcoin sense HD rom by badnewz
Just get the ZIP and flash it as you would a ROM. No need to wipe and it will reboot a couple of times so don't touch it until it's back into Android
Yes or use the Android Flasher utility. Both the most safest ways to flash a radio.
Is it to be updated at flashing the new Rom or i can update the radio even when i'm using the rom finely?
The radio is not part of the ROM - so you can update it at any point without doing anything to your ROM.
Just flash from recovery like you would anything else.
Hi.
I would like to flash a Custom ROM, this will be my first ROM Flash so I've got some noob questions.
My Inc2 is currently ROOTED (by Revolutionary), S-OFF, with SU on Android 2.3.3 , all else is completely stock.
I want to flash the andyBONESTOCK 5.10.605.9 ROM. (I've already go this file and the associated SU file). This ROM is based on the latest from Verizon/HTC and is all Stock except is rooted/s-off.
Will this ROM Flash also update my Radio Baseband to the latest 1.09.01.1111 ?This Base Band is in the latest Verizon/HTC update
I believe it will not. And that I will have to seperately flash the radio.
To update the radio I believe all I have to do is rename the Radio file to PGIMG32.IMG, put it in SD Card root directory, reboot phone in HBOOT, and install the file.
Is this correct?
Thanks,
Yes. That is correct. I would also suggest doing a nandroid backup before flashing the ROM just in case you run into problems and need to get back to where you are now. The only thing that won't backup is your radio.
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
and if for some reason you should not like the newer radio, you can just download the one you are currently on and rename it and Flash it the same way you did the update. just remember to remove the previous update from the root of yours sd card.
Rockin' the Miui Incredible 2 w/xda premium
thanks for the confirmations!
i'll backup my apps & data and try it.
Ok guys, I am new to ROMs and kernels, and what not. I installed Cyanogenmod 10.0 with the help of my friend, and after using this, I wanted to upgrade to android 4.4. I downloaded XenonHD, and Beanstalk if I am not wrong, after I used darkside super wipe, and once i tried to install the ROM it says "Error : Radio must be newer than uvmc6." Does anyone know how to get a newer radio, without messing up my device?

UVMC6 is the newest radio. If you having problems, download and flash the radio from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400 in your recovery. Then try to install the ROM. I know that beanstalk asks, but as long as the radio is current, it just bypasses it. Give that a shot. How old is your phone? What version of ROM were your using? (ICS, JB) The ICS radio is different than the one that is needed to install the 4.4 roms. Might want to update the recovery. But thats not going to fix your issue. TWRP 2.7 is out. I'm running Dirty Unicorn 4.4.2 with the updated recovery. Works great. Hope that helps.
